adisabarber: They should put pressure on federal government to fix those roads or fix them and collect the money back from FG. Till today the FG is yet to pay back/refund the billions that most states have used to fix federal roads in their domain. Buhari himself knows this that is why he doesn't mind agreeing to this arrangement. The FG just doesn't have enough money to keep maintaining all the federal roads and it keeps costing lives. |

ImperialYoruba: He is correct though.
If gov can donate free to farmers, give me reason he will not donate to herders?
What qualifies farmers, but disqualifies herders? Guy, these are Ogun state farmers, not Fulani herders, hello?? This sort of gesture has been happening long before now. During the days of regional government, the government setup farm settlements where farmers would get free access to land for agricultural purposes, while government would provide all necessary facilities and even subsidized inputs, and nobody saw nothing wrong with that coz it worked splendidly. Fact remains that all land are still vested in the hands of the state government, according to the Land Use Act, and that won't change anytime soon. Here's what the Land Use Act says: Under the Land Use Act, the governor is responsible for allocation of land in all urban areas to individuals resident in the state or to organisations for residential, agricultural, commercial and other purposes while similar powers with respect to non-urban areas are conferred on the Local Government. Let every state government put their indigenes first, and there'll be no problem. The Northerners are donating land to their herders, that shouldn't concern a Yoruba person, same reason why a Yoruba governor's land donation to Yoruba farmers shouldn't concern outsiders. |

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/09/lagos-records-over-70of-nigerias-vehicular-traffic/ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2019 7:27 PM
BY BANKOLE
Lagos State records more than 70 per cent of Nigeria’s vehicular traffic, in spite of its small landmass. The Federal Controller of Works in the state, Mr Adedamola Kuti, made the observation in an interview with newsmen in Lagos on Sunday.
Kuti said that the traffic situation was a major challenge to road rehabilitation in the state, Nigeria’s commercial centre. He called on the motoring public to cooperate with contractors handling road projects to enable timely completion of the projects.
“There is no alternative to having a motorable road; we realise that many times it is the road we want to fix that motorists have to pass through.
“Managing traffic to allow road rehabilitation is a problem for us; we appeal to the public to realise that there is no gain without pain.
“We appeal to motorists in Lagos to cooperate with us and with traffic management agencies during road rehabilitation.
“If vehicles are diverted to another route during road rehabilitation; we urge motorists to please cooperate; it may be inconvenient but the situation will not be forever,” he said.
Their controller said that It was essential to make roads better for the citizens. He urged media organisations to help to educate the public on the need for the cooperation, saying that the Federal Government prioritised infrastructure development and needed public support.
“Where we need to work at night, we have been doing that. For example, the entire surfacing of the Third Mainland Bridge was done at night.
`’The work we did at Outer Marina was done throughout the night, even the Dorman Long at Ojuelegba was done at night,’’ he said. The controller said that the Federal Ministry of Works, Housing and Power had zero tolerance for illegal occupation of bridges.
“We are not going to tolerate any form of business under bridges. Infrastructure must be protected; therefore, illegal businesses there must go.
“The public is not allowed to sell petroleum products under the bridges.
“These are not what we should allow, and we will keep reporting to the appropriate authorities to see how we can dislodge these illegal occupants.
“Illegal activities undermine the strength of our bridges,” he said.
Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria, having a land area of about 3,345kmsq. The state claims to have a population of about 17.5 million.

https://tribuneonlineng.com/rice-worth-over-n145bn-smuggled-into-nigeria-since-january-%e2%80%95-rice-processors/ By Sanya Adejokun - Abuja
On Aug 29, 2019
Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) on Thursday disclosed that over one million metric tons of rice valued at $400 million (N145 billion) was smuggled into Nigeria since the beginning of 2019.
At a press briefing in Abuja to express solidarity with Federal Government’s partial closure of land borders, National Chairman of RIFAN, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar said when viewed either from the trade or security points to view, the action being coordinated by military and paramilitary forces was commendable.
He accused neighbouring countries and some multinational companies of conniving to sabotage food security and economic prospects of Nigeria.
According to the proprietor of Umza International Farms, there was additional 500, 000 tons of rice already ordered through Benin Republic by smugglers for the Christmas season.
Abubakar explained that RIFAN has a surveillance team that monitors activities at the Cotonou port.
He lamented that since the Federal Government restricted importation of rice, import of the commodity from Benin Republic had drastically increased.
“Only Nigerians eat parboiled in West Africa as others including Benennois eat white rice.
“And so, any parboiled rice imported into Benin Republic is only on transit to Nigeria,” he explained.
Abubakar who was accompanied by other members of the association expressed the delight of members that mills that were producing below installed capacity have started revving up production.
“Rice paddy that have been been lying idle in stores are now being milled because distributors are increasing demand.
“We are also assuring Nigerians that we and other rice producers have the capacity to fill the loophole that absence of smuggled rice would create.
“We have also committed ourselves in writing to government that we will not take advantage of the situation to increase prices.
“A bag of 50 kilogramme rice will sell for a minimum of N13,300 And maximum of N14,000,” he stated. Mynd44 |
Politics › Court Asked To Declare Nnamdi Kanu A Fugitive, Order His Arrest by afroniger(op): 7:49pm On Aug 26, 2019 |
AUGUST 26, 2019 7:28 PM
BY EMMANUEL OKOGBA
By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA- The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has been asked to declare the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a fugitive.
Nnamdi Kanu The plaintiff, Mr. Donald Okonkwo, who identified himself as “a law-abiding citizen” and indigene of Agbor town in Delta North Senatorial District, wants the court to determine whether the British Government, is not under obligation to repatriate the IPOB leader who he described as “a fugitive cum terrorist”, to Nigeria.
Cited as defendants in legal action are the British High Commission in Nigeria, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.
He prayed the court to order the UK government to within 21 days after delivery of judgement in the matter, repatriate Kanu to Nigeria for prosecution.
Specifically, the plaintiff, through its counsel, Mr. Abiodun Babalola, prayed the court to determine the following issues:
“Whether the 1st Defendant is not under obligation to repatriate the IPOB separatist leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, being a fugitive cum terrorist from the Great Britain where he has been hiding since September, 2017 under the cover of his citizenship status back to Nigeria so he can stand his trial for treasonable felony, amongst other sundry offences, pending against him before Honourable Justice (Mrs.) Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja?
“Whether by a true interpretation of Sections 1, 4 and 5 of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act, 2013 the 2nd Defendant has not abdicated his duties by failing, neglecting or omitting to arrest and extradite the IPOB separatist leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from the Great Britain back to Nigeria so he can stand his trial for treasonable felony, amongst other sundry offences, considering the Bench Warrant issued on 28th March 2019 by Honourable Justice (Mrs.) Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja for the arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu after it was determined that he flouted his bail conditions?
“Whether the 3rd Defendant, as the Chief Law Officer of the Federation is not under a statutory duty to advise the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to severe diplomatic relations with the 1st Defendant for harbouring Mazi Nnamdi Kanu being a fugitive cum terrorist in Great Britain and whether the failure of the 3rd Defendant does not amount to abdication of his duties under the of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act, 2013?
Upon determination of the legal questions, he wants: “A declaration that the British High Commission, that is, the 1st Defendant is under obligation to repatriate the IPOB separatist leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, being a fugitive cum terrorist from the Great Britain where he has been hiding since September 2017 under the cover of his citizenship status back to Nigeria so he can stand his trial for treasonable felony, amongst other sundry offences, pending against him before Honourable Justice (Mrs.) Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja.
“A declaration that by a true interpretation of Sections 1, 4 and 5 of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act, 2013 the 2nd Defendant has abdicated his duties by failing, neglecting or omitting to arrest and extradite the IPOB separatist leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from the Great Britain back to Nigeria so he can stand his trial for treasonable felony, amongst other sundry offences, considering the Bench Warrant issued on 28th March, 2019 by Honourable Justice (Mrs.) Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja for the arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu after it was determined that he flouted his bail conditions.
“A declaration that the 3rd Defendant as the Chief Law Officer of the Federation is under a statutory duty to advise the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to sever diplomatic relations with the 1st Defendant for harbouring Mazi Nnamdi Kanu being a fugitive cum terrorist in Great Britain and that his failure to so advise amount to abdication of his duties under the of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act, 2013.
“An order compelling the 1st & 2nd Defendants to forthwith arrest and repatriate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from wherever he is hiding in Great Britain back to Nigeria to stand his trial within 21 (Twenty One) days from the date of delivery of judgment in this suit.
As well as, “An order directing the 1st Defendant to tender public apology to the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 3 (Three) national dailies within 21 (Twenty One) days from the date of delivery of judgment in this suit for her complicity in facilitating the escape from justice and harbouring of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the Great Britain, thereby allowing him to cause innocent Nigerian citizens serious emotional trauma through the instrumentality of incessant threat of violence, breach of peace and overthrow of the legitimate government in Nigeria”.
Meanwhile, no date has been fixed for the suit to be heard.
