Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

Proponents of “Third Force” under the aegis of Nigeria Intervention Movement have endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, for the Saturday election.

According to a statement on Friday by the movement’s Director, Media and Publicity Bureau, Mr Debo Adeniyi, the decision was taken at a meeting held in Ikenne, Ogun State on Thursday night.

Adeniyi said, in arriving at the decision to back Abiodun, the meeting scrutinised the candidates of leading political parties in the state, including those of the Allied Peoples Movement, Kunle Akinlade; ADP’s Dimeji Bankole; ADC’s Gboyega Isiaka; SDP’s Rotimi Paseda; PT’s Lanre Banjo; and PDP’s Buruji Kashamu, among others.

He said the national and state leaders of movement present at the meeting were impressed by the outstanding achievements of the APC governorship candidate and the resourceful consultative, pro-people and pro-democracy programmes he has for the development and welfare of the people of the state.

He added that the movement had an understanding with the governorship candidate to form an inclusive government if elected.

He said, “In the light of the above and the understanding reached with Dapo Abiodun to form an inclusive government in Ogun State to include NIM leaders and ideologies, we have directed all our structures, networks, stakeholders and allied political parties in the Third Force Movement in Ogun State to support and come out en masse to vote the candidacy of Dapo Abiodun of the APC, who is considered one of us in NIM as the next governor of Ogun State.

“Further consultations and networking with the candidate and leaders of the APC in Ogun State towards the success of the Saturday governorship elections are expected to continue today (Friday) in Ogun.”

A former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Titi Oseni-Gomez, has defected from the African Democratic Congress to the All Progressives Congress.

The PUNCH gathered that she would be working with her supporters for the success of the governorship candidate of the APC, Dapo Abiodun, at the Saturday polls.

Oseni-Gomez, who contested under the platform of the ADC for the Ogun Central Senatorial District at the last National Assembly election, said she made the decision after consulting with her family members, constituency and other party stakeholders.

“I have moved to the APC. It is confirmed,” she told our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday night.

Politicians and their supporters in Ogun State have been forging alliances as the Saturday governorship election draws near.

Our correspondent reported last Friday that another senatorial candidate of the ADC, Deji Ashiru, who contested for the Ogun East Senatorial District, defected to the APC.

Oseni-Gomez and Ashiru will now be working against the governorship candidate of their former party, Gboyega Isiaka, who has the endorsement of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The APC flag bearer, Abiodun, while reacting to the development through his aide, Emmanuel Ojo, said he was gladdened by the news.

He said, “Before anyone could emerge a senatorial candidate, you will agree with me that such a person must have a lot of political influence. And you know politics is a game of numbers. So, we are happy she has finally agreed to join us; it is a plus to us. We are looking forward to a great relationship with her and her supporters."
PoliticsFayemi, Akeredolu, Woo Mimiko For Apc’s Success In State Assembly Elections by afroniger(op): 7:29pm On Mar 05, 2019
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/03/ondo-fayemi-akeredolu-woo-mimiko-for-apcs-success-in-state-assembly-elections/

Barely few days to the March 9 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections, the duo of Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu and his Ekiti state counterpart, Kayode Fayemi, have approached former Governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, to bolster the All Progressives Congress, APC’s chance in next Saturday’s election.

Ondo state is among the states that will not be holding governorship election in 2019. Confirming the development, the Media Aide to Mimiko, John Paul Akinduro, said the APC governors did visited Mimiko.

According to a statement to Vanguard, “The party is formally seeking the support of Mimiko and his ZLP structure across the state so as to come victorious in Saturday’s State House of Assembly election.”

Consequent upon this interaction, Akeredolu has been consulting with APC faithful across the state for a seamless collaboration.

The statement also said a top source in APC who preferred not to be named said “Recall Mimiko was in this same shoe in 2015 whereby the state lost the presidential election to the APC but through some strategic moves, his party was able to win 21 out of 26 assembly seats 2 weeks after. This experience is what the party needs at this point in time and we have approached him to team up with us.”

On whether Mimiko is moving to the APC, Akinduro, said “Mimiko remains in ZLP but entreaties have been made to him to work with the APC for the Saturday state assembly elections. This is to help keep the Government of Ondo State relatively stable and rancour-free.”

Reports indicate that Mimiko and his party will field candidates in some constituencies in Saturday’s election but may support the APC in other constituencies depending on the final decision.

PoliticsWorkers Boo, Shame Amosun Over Hostile Policies by afroniger(op): 5:20pm On Mar 05, 2019
https://www.independent.ng/workers-boo-shame-amosun-over-hostile-policies/amp/

Angry workers in their thousands repeatedly booed Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, calling him names on Tuesday for alleged hostile disposition towards their colleagues in the state.

Amosun, who hurriedly adjourned his meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Com. Ayuba Wabba and other affiliate unions, rushed out of the Governor’s Office on being notified the irate workers had already hit the road and were advancing speedily to storm Oke – Mosan.

But his escape was not quick enough as the workers, who had taken over the IBB Boulevard leading to the Oke – Mosan Governor’s Office sighted him as he drives himself away in a black jeep and began to boo him, calling him many names.

They urged Wabba and other NLC leaders negotiating with the Governor on behalf of the aggrieved workers to be tactful and apply utmost wisdom, alleging that Amosun is accustomed to reneging on his promises to workers.

Wabba, who also left the meeting with the Governor to calm the workers and halt their advancement to Oke – Mosan, said they were already in a dialogue with respect to four fundamental issues affecting state workers and that a commitment had been obtained from the Amosun he would address those issues.

The NLC leadership added that one of the four issues is the call for reinstatement of the state NLC Chairman, Akeem Ambali, whom he sacked over a year ago.

He announced Ambali has been reinstated by the Governor, assuring that their presence in the state is not politically motivated.

According to him, before the close of the day, NLC would sign an agreement with the state government regarding its commitment to address the issues of unremitted salary deduction, contributory pension funds, unpaid salaries and allowances of staff of Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu – Ijebu among others.

Earlier, Wabba lamented the litany of anti – workers decisions of Amosun – led administration in the state, citing the sack of NLC Chairman, Com. Akeem Ambali, and “unremitted deduction of over 105 months” as examples of hostile workers policies.

According to the NLC leadership, no other state in Nigeria has such unprecedented record of either sacking union leader or having over 105 months of accumulated unremitted deductions.

Wabba, who was particularly appalled by the “very pathetic” situation of workers at the Tai Solarin College of Education, said some of them at the institutions have not earned salaries for the past eight years, lamenting their salaries have accumulated to the tune of over N4b (four billion naira).

He revealed some of the workers of Tai Solarin College of Education being owed by state government have died, stressing that Amosun – led administration worsened the plights of the workers by proscribing their union.

“The is the issue of statutory deductions, deductions of pension, deductions of unions dues, deductions of cooperatives, all statutory deductions which are part of the worker salaries.

“The law is that you must deduct and remit to the appropriate quarters, these deductions have not been remitted for over 105 months, and no state in Nigeria that has such situation."

PoliticsProphet Muyideen Kasali: Atiku, Try Running For Presidency One More Time by afroniger(op): 5:49pm On Mar 03, 2019

Abiodun Nejo, Ado Ekiti

The General Overseer of the Hour of Mercy Prayer Ministry Worldwide (Alaseyori), Prophet Muyideen Kasali, has urged Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to give presidential contest another trial.

Kasali said the fact that Atiku did not win the 2019 presidential election did not mean he could not win election for the exalted office in future.

A statement from the Head of Edidi Children School Foundation and wife of the General Overseer, Mrs. Oredolapo Awosika-Kasali, made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, said the cleric gave the admonition during the February edition of Hour of Mercy programme which rounded off a 27-day prayer and fasting to mark Kasali’s birthday celebration at the headquarters in Ibadan.

The cleric stated: “There is no loser in an election, but a learner. Atiku can still rule Nigeria in no distant future. God sparing our lives, 2023 will soon be here; he can contest again.

“It is not about age, but what he has to offer. He should join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari to make Nigeria great again and get her out of her numerous challenges,” the cleric said.

He also charged Buhari and other stakeholders in the electoral process to ensure that free, fair, transparent and credible governorship and House of Assembly elections in Saturday.

PoliticsObasanjo’s Ally Predicts APM, Others’ Loss In Ogun by afroniger(op): 9:25am On Mar 03, 2019
https://punchng.com/obasanjos-ally-predicts-apm-others-loss-in-ogun/

One of the core layalists of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr Femi Majekodunmi, has predicted that the adopted political party of Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, the Allied People’s Movement, will lose the March 9 governorship election in the state.

Majekodunmi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in the state, also predicted the same fate for the African Democratic Congress and the Social Democratic Party in the coming election in the state.

He stated this during an interactive session with newsmen on Saturday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He claimed that only two political parties—the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party—were seriously in contention in the state.

He, however, predicted that the APC governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun, and all the APC candidates for the state House of Assembly would win the March 9 elections.

According to him, the results of the last presidential and National Assembly elections had shown that only the APC and the PDP were in contention in the race.

He noted, “The other parties are either helplessly weak or actually dead as they cannot fly again nationally and in Ogun State in particular.

“It is now clear that we have only two political parties left in the race in our dear state—the APC and the PDP— with the other parties— African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, Allied Progressives Movement, Social Democratic Party, among—others not flying at all.”

The Baagbile of Egbaland, however, congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on their reelection.

He said their victory at the poll was well deserved and a triumph of democracy.

He added that the victory of the President and the vice president affirmed the trust that Nigerians had in them to take the country to the next level.

He commended the people of Ogun State for supporting Buhari and Osinbajo with their votes.

He urged the people of the state to continue to support the party and vote massively for Abiodun and all APC candidates in the coming elections.

PoliticsLadoja Told Me Only Ibadanman Can Defeat Adelabu - Alao-akala by afroniger(op): 9:35pm On Mar 01, 2019
https://oyoinsight.com/ladoja-told-me-only-ibadanman-can-defeat-adelabu-alao-akala/

Former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, who struck an alliance with the All Progressives Congress, APC, to support the governorship ambition of Oloye Adebayo Adelabu has revealed why he dumped the coalition proposed by major opposition parties to tackle the ruling party.

OYO INSIGHT had reported how Alao-Akala convened the meeting of opposition political parties’ governorship candidates last week.

Alao-Akala would later meet the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, after which he decided to work for the party.

According to Alao-Akala, in a personally signed statement he issued this evening, he revealed how his former boss, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, “told me point blank in the presence of other governorship candidates that I was not in consideration for Governorship due to my place of birth – Ogbomoso. According to him, “we need an Ibadan man to slug it out with another Ibadan man, which is Bayo Adelabu”. With the statement, my geographical place of birth is the only crime I committed.“

OYO 2019: I’VE DECIDED TO FORM AN ALLIANCE WITH BAYO ADELABU WHILE ADP STATE HOUSE ASSEMBLY CANDIDATES GO TO THE POLLS WITH MY FULL SUPPORTS

Following the outcome of the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections, I, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala – the Oyo State 2019 Action Democratic Party (ADP), have decided to form an alliance with the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Adebayo Adekola Adelabu ahead of the March 9th Governorship and state House of assembly Elections in the state. However, all the ADP candidates for the House of Assembly seats will go to the elections with my maximum supports.

It is widely known that I initiated alliance talks with the main opposition parties in Oyo State vis-a-vis my great party – the Action Democratic Party ((ADP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). My boss, the former governor of Oyo State and Osi Olubadan, Senator Rashid Adewolu Ladoja is a mediator. Meanwhile, during the alliance process, I received an emergency call from the Presidency. In the meeting with Presidency, I was prevailed upon to work for APC. My response was that I should be given 48hrs to consult with my people, the opposition parties alliance committee as well as the teeming members, the leaders and the stakeholders of my great party, ADP.

On resumption to the alliance meeting, my boss (High Chief Rashid Adewolu Ladoja) told me point blank in the presence of other governorship candidates that I was not in consideration for Governorship due to my place of birth – Ogbomoso. According to him, “we need an Ibadan man to slug it out with another Ibadan man, which is Bayo Adelabu”. With the statement, my geographical place of birth is the only crime I committed.

Since I’ve been unfairly and technically booted out of the alliance talks, I consulted with my party stakeholders and supporters whose supports have brought me this far. Having realised that my 2019 Governorship agenda cannot be realised in isolation based on the present situation, the only option remaining for me is to form an alliance with Mr. Bayo Adelabu of APC.

I remain in ADP and all our candidates for the House of Assembly seats will stand the March 9th Elections with all my support BUT I WILL WORK FOR THE VICTORY OF BAYO ADELABU of APC.

Bayo Adelabu is ready to work with ADP to adopt and implement the core values of our party and my manifesto. The Presidency approached me for an alliance based on our performance and grassroots network not only in Ogbomoso but also in Ibadan, Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun and Oyo.

“Our core values and philosophies as indicated in our ADP manifestos, ‘Rescue Mission Agenda, have been adopted by Bayo Adelabu with Presidency as witness.”

I have therefore as a candidate of ADP, accepted to support Adelabu of APC for victory and therefore form a coalition government. My solemn gratitude goes to our members, state and national leaders of ADP for the ample opportunity given to me to lead and fly the flag of the party. Though, my decision is a very tough one, it is for the progress of Oyo State.
