By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor
President Muhammadu Buhari was believed to have on Sunday morning read the riot act to party chieftains bent on stoking crisis in the All Progressives Congress, APC over the use of direct primary in the selection of the party’s candidates for elections.
The president’s rebuke of those orchestrating the destabilization plot came as the APC on Sunday morning warned those being used to stoke the crisis to step off warning that stern disciplinary action would be taken against them.
The group reportedly being egged on by a few governors with a two term southern governor in charge had scheduled to hold a meeting for Sunday afternoon at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja.
The principal aim of the meeting is to call for the dissolution of the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole led National Working Committee, NWC.
The southern governor who is championing to have his son in law as his successor according to Vanguard sources is mobilizing to truncate the party’s decision on the use of direct primary as it could jeopardize his succession agenda and also truncate the governor’s own plan of proceeding to the Senate.
Members of the National Executive Committee, NEC who do not belong to the NWC it was gathered were those being mobilized to canvass for the dissolution of the Oshiomhole led NWC.
“The president has stepped in and warned them to clear off,” a senior party source said on Sunday morning in response to the brewing crisis in the ruling party.
The president who is travelling in China was believed to have given the directive by phone to some of those pinpointed as being involved. Though a number of governors and a powerful minister were believed to have been sympathetic to the indirect primary, it was learnt that a number of them were already backing off from the rebellion.
A number of governors are said to be unhappy over Oshiomhole’s insistence on the use of direct primary as they allege that it would jeopardize their efforts to plant their associates. Governors who normally have the control of the party structures are able to through the delegates that are loyal to them able to foist their choices as candidates in elections.
The national publicity secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena in a strongly worded statement on Sunday morning warning of dire consequences said: “The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to an illegal meeting scheduled to hold on Sunday at Transcorp Hilton hotel in Abuja by some members of our Party organs, with a view to fault the decisions made by the NWC followed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) as regards the mode of the Party’s primary elections.
“We want to state clearly that the meeting which has been fixed for 2pm is illegal and an attempt to puncture the sincere efforts being made by the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC to reposition our Party ahead the 2019 General Elections and to ensure unity, equity and justice in the Party.
“The outcome of such meeting which is already known will be a nullity and we admonish our members to disregard such meetings in the interest of the Party. It is illegal to call such meetings outside the purview of the constituted authority.
“The identities of those plotting such meetings have been identified and unless they desist from such they will be dealt with in line with the Party’s Constitution at the appropriate time.
“The NWC will resist any attempt to disrupt the current peace and harmony prevailing in our great Party after the exit of some members of our Party.
“We urge any member who is not satisfied with the decisions of the Party to utillize channels provided by the Party’s constitution to air their views. “We remain focused in delivering good governance to Nigerians and above all ensuring the victory for our Party come 2019 and we will not be intimidated by the antics of a few in ensuring success for our Party.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/09/apcs-direct-primaries-buhari-intervenes-to-stop-anti-oshiomhole-rebellion/

ADP will do more damage to Adeleke than APC in my opinion, because the party's flagbearer, Moshood Adeoti, is from the same senatorial district as Adeleke (Osun West), thereby diluting his votes in his presumed stronghold. Iwo people will turn-up/vote for their son. ADC candidate, Fatai Akinbade, is also from the same Osun West. I expect APC not to do badly in that district either, with towns/LG like Ejigbo likely going APC. The election will be very interesting. |

Ambode can't be that dumb so the news is obviously fake. He's a well-appreciated governor of the party with broad based support. All three senators representing the state (Ashafa, Remi Tinubu, Yayi) have openly endorsed his reelection, so have the party's elected assemblymen, etc. It is fake news and nothing more. |

Politics › Crisis Hits Oyo ADC As Faction Rejects Ladoja’s Congress Result by afroniger(op): 6:29am On Aug 31, 2018 |
By Olufemi Atoyebi, Ibadan
Leaders of the Unity Forum faction of the African Democratic Congress on Thursday expressed their displeasure at what they described as illegal conduct of the party’s state congress and issued 72 hours for the congress to be reversed.
Ladoja and his loyalists defected to the ADC from the Peoples Democratic Party while the Unity Forum had earlier defected to the party from the All Progressives Congress after disagreement with the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, over the conduct of the congresses in the state.
The congress being contested was said to have been held despite a directive from the national headquarters of the ADC that it should not hold.
At a meeting held by the Unity Forum in Ibadan, the group leader, Dr Busari Adebisi, said the conduct of the congress by Ladoja and his group was a display of desperation to hijack the party from those who were there before the former Oyo State governor defected from the PDP.
At the meeting were Senator Monsurat Sunmonu; the forum chairman, Isiaka Alimi; secretary of the forum, Wasiu Olatunbosun; a former APC state secretary, Lasun Adebunmi; governorship aspirants of the party, Kola Balogun and Remi Olaniyan; pioneer leaders of the ADC and members from the 33 council areas of the state.
Adebisi said, “A conspiracy was hatched between Michael Koleoso and Ladoja. They both threatened to leave the party if they did not get what they wanted. We complained of non-existence of internal democracy in the APC but the same is being introduced to the ADC.”
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the forum accused Ladoja and Koleoso of sharing among themselves the executive members of the party, stressing that it would oppose imposition of a list of executive members purportedly drafted by the former governor on the party.
The communiqué partly read, “Due to issues arising from local government congress and non-readiness of a huge number of the council executives and state delegates to vote at the state congress, the party national chairman, Chief Ralph Osita, on August 27, 2018, decided to postpone the conduct of the state congress in the state until further notice.
“No further notice regarding the postponement has been given to the members of the party. On August 28, 2018 Koleoso, Ladoja and their supporters held a meeting without inviting members of the Unity Forum, where a purported list of state executive members was generated and offices shared among them.
“The conditions stated in the communiqué must be complied with within 72 hours of its issuance after which the forum members will meet and take a decision.”
Effort to contact Ladoja was not successful as he was said to have travelled out of the country. One of his aides, who pleaded anonymity because he had no authority to speak on Ladoja’s behalf, however, told our correspondent that Ladoja contacted the national chairman of the party who gave him a go ahead for the conduct of the congress.
He said, “There was an unsigned text message concerning the conduct of the congress. When my principal contacted the national headquarters of the party, he secured their consent to go on with the congress. We are not happy that a controversy is being generated. The Unity Forum is important to the party just as other groups.” https://punchng.com/crisis-hits-oyo-adc-as-faction-rejects-ladojas-congress-result/ |

Politics › Osun Gov Election: Oshiomhole Inaugurates 63-member National Campaign Council by afroniger(op): 7:10pm On Aug 29, 2018 |
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/08/osun-gov-election-oshiomhole-inaugurates-63-member-national-campaign-council/The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Wednesday inaugurated the Party’s 63-member high-powered National Campaign Council for the September 22, 2018 Osun State Governorship Election. The Campaign Council is chaired by the Kano State Governor, H.E. Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Remarks by the APC National Chairman: “We are very grateful to Governor Ganduje for graciously accepting to provide leadership and chair this very important committee. Your Excellencies, many of you present here have been very much involved in helping to provide leadership in most of the campaigns that we have had in recent times after the last general elections. The most recent is that of Ekiti State where your Excellencies did very well.
“So, we have a body of experience to go about and the whole idea is to sustain the values and the ideals of our Party, which is based on transparent elections on the basis of one man, one vote and joining forces with the Party leadership in the state, to work hard, to mobilise people of Osun State to vote wisely for the APC candidate in the next governorship election that is scheduled to take place on 22nd September 2018.
“As a governing Party, Nigerians resolved in our favour that the APC should not only preside at the centre. They have expressed so much trust and confidence in our party, that on our Party’s platform, 24 governors were elected.
“The importance of Osun is readily appreciated by all of us. First, it is a State we had taken over from the PDP, we defeated the sitting governor at that time.
Remarks by the Kano State Governor: “Mr. Chairman on behalf of the Council, I will like to thank you very much for having confidence in us. There is no doubt that this is a very powerful council looking at the membership composition — Governors, Senators and experienced Party men. Also the task ahead of us is very important. Mr Chairman, what you have done is to match the quality of the council with the importance of assignment.
“There is no doubt that winning Osun Sate is very vital to the Party. It has been our state in APC for the last 8 years and by the will of God we will maintain this state in order to have 100 per cent states of the South Western part of this country in our great party. As Progressives, we assure you we will ensure clean, free and fair election because that is the motive of the APC.
“What we intend to do is to mobilize our people. We are even very lucky that the primaries conducted succeeded in mobilising the people, in energizing the people, in giving our members hope in Osun state so that we continue with that mobilization until the election day when certainly we will win this election.
“Luckily enough the Governor of Osun is a man of the people, he provided the dividend of Democracy. He is the man who relates with all strata of the society in Osun. So he is a man that is loved by the people. So all that is required now is for us to sit together to ensure there is total reconciliation among those who contested the primaries. This is very important to give a sense of belonging so everyone will participate in the electioneering and in the election and also mobilize all the stakeholders to ensure we work in unity.”
