Politics › Army To Commence Operation Python Dance 3 In S-east - Vanguard by afroniger(op): 10:28am On Aug 17, 2018 |
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/08/army-to-commence-operation-python-dance-3-in-s-east/By Chimaobi Nwaiwu
NNEWI—THE Nigerian Army yesterday said it will soon commence its annual training programme, the ‘Operation Python Dance III’, also known as Exercise Egwu Eke III, in South East States formations and units under 82 Division, Nigerian Army.
This was disclosed yesterday by the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 82 Division Nigeria Army, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Boman Kabuk, at the 302 Artillery Regiment, (General Support) Onitsha, Anambra State, when he paid a familiarisation visit to the military cantonment, having resumed duties in Enugu on August 6, 2018.
He said: “Exercise Egwu Eke III, is a training exercise for troops of 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and during the training, if there are criminal activities like armed robbery, kidnapping and other criminal activities that distort peace and tranquility of the citizenry along the line, the Army will not close its eyes and watch those criminals activities to thrive.”
The Nigerian Army therefore urged all law abiding citizens of the country, particularly the people of South East to go about their legitimate, lawful and genuine businesses, saying that “those afraid of the exercise are criminal elements that do not want their activities checked and are just being afraid of the consequences of their heinous criminal actions.”
Maj. Gen Kabuk , who was accompanied by some senior Army officers from 82 Division, was led round the Onitsha military cantonment for inspection of equipment and facilities by the Commander, 302 Artillery Regiment, General Support, Col. Idongesit Akpan. …warns pro-Biafra agitators He warned that the Nigerian Army will not tolerate any distraction or trouble from any group including the pro-Biafra activists and killer herdsmen in the South East, before, during and after the exercise, saying that they will ensure that law abiding citizens in the zone and Nigeria in general live in peace.
“The Army trainS on daily basis and at times, as a group annually, so Exercise Egwu Eke, from the beginning was Python Dance I. We changed it to Egwu Eke to align with the environment which is the South East, still referring to it as Python Dance II and so, we are now saying that Exercise Egwueke III is going to hold. It is still going to be a training exercise.
“Whenever Exercise Egwueke is mentioned, people always think the Army has come to do some dangerous things in the South East. It is a wrong impression, it is a training exercise, but I must tell you that the people that get afraid are criminal elements who are looking for cover in their crimes.
“We want to let Nigerians know that if we are training, we are training to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria. So, the pro Biafra activists and killer herdsmen are also Nigerians who are misguided. We should not allow misguided elements to disturb our peace. What we want is for law abiding citizens to live in peace. If you are not law abiding, the law will take its course. That is all we are saying.” Mynd44, OAM4J, Lalasticlala |

toyetade: Yes travelling abroad has become more risky now as opportunities are no longer there Exactly. That is another sad reality. I first went to Europe in 1997, and back then it was much much easier to get visas or even 'Oluwole' Britico and Amerikan kpali to travel visa-free to different countries if you could afford it then, and opportunities full ground brekete in Europe and America for blacks then, as long as you could get into those countries and you are hardworking, you will be ok. But today, all the loopholes have been blocked now, Schengen treaty has dried up opportunities that were overflowing back in the days. Donald Trump is not smiling. Even countries that used to beg Nigerians to come to them are also not smiling again. Racism has also increased too so it is not only more difficult to travel, but they have made it even more so to get your papers. Of course it is still possible to emigrate, but one has to do so intelligently. If not, better just stay back and hustle in Naija. |

toyetade: How come it took you 4 years to get papers with your calculated risk. In that 4 years you were an illegal immigrant like this man I said I was impatient and ignorant when I decided to travel back then. And on top of that, I was lucky, while 'this man' is dead Look, i am only speaking with benefit of hindsight so don't twist my intentions just because you disagree with my position. I am not against anyone traveling out, and I have repeated that on more than one occasion on this thread. If you want to travel, look before you leap, do your findings about your intended destination and how to regularize your papers asap when you get there, else you may either die on the way (like those en route via Libya) or at sea, or get raped and impregnated in transit like the many Nigerian women that were later rescued from Libya, or you will have to keep watching your back from immigration agents who are always on the look out for illegal immigrants, or you will suffer severe depression that may lead to death via heart-attack (like the guy that prompted this thread), or last last you will get caught and deported back to Nigeria like countless others have, to start from scratch. Nobody's life is worth being wasted over traveling abroad, no matter what. |

toyetade: Agree with you "calculated risk" . You are talking as someone who haven't step out of Nigeria before. All your calculations from Nigeria usually amount to nothing as soon as you step out of Nigeria. Friend that you plan on will disappoint You, jobs will fail you. I took the same risk many years ago when I left Nigeria. It worked out so well for me. If I didn't try with just 6 months visa I don't know what my fate will be toda That is where you are wrong. You are talking to someone who lived in Europe for 4-years before getting his papers, and I know the hell I went through as an illegal immigrant before I got my stay, so yes I am in a position to talk about this issue from experience. Like many others I also traveled out of impatience and ignorance, but when I arrived Netherlands it was different ball game. My point is, if you want to travel anywhere, look before you leap. If it is paper-marriage you must do or to file for asymlum, do it and even plan it ahead for it sef before you travel because life as an illegal immigrant CAN BE HELLISH. Let's tell ourselves the truth o.k for the sake of others that may not have this knowledge. You will always have to look behind your back for immigration and fear of getting deported back without having achieved much. Employers will not want to hire you for fear of getting into trouble. You will be homeless when your money finishes unless you are lucky to find good-samaritans, e.t.c. If you are truly abroad, you will know what I am talking about. Make sure you do everything to regularize your 'stay', that is the point. What is the point in spending so much effort and money to travel only to get deported before achieving anything tangible all because you were an illegal immigrant? Na back to square one be dat. Most importantly, respect your life abeg. There's always hope for a man that is still breathing. Many are still hustling and making it in the same Nigeria some are running from, without doing yahoo or anything fraudulent. If you die all in the name of 'risk' or traveling, you just wasted your potential because no 'abroad' is worth losing your life over. That's my two-cents. |

toyetade: ý There is risk on anything you are doing. Even though you don't want to leave Nigeria death can still meet you there. There are thousands of people who have undertaken this strip and have become successful. When there's life, there's hope for a better day and future. There's a difference between taking a risk and being stupid. Before you embark on any 'risk' you do your findings whether such risk is worth it (calculated risk) or not. Before going to any country, you can find out how you can regularize your papers when you get there, even before obtaining the visa, by making your findings. Only stupid people risk their lives by choosing to go through the desert, via Libya to the Sea, all the way to Europe. We are all witnesses to the thousands that had to be rescued out of Libya, not to mention the many that were killed during the journey. I put it to you that such deaths could have been avoided, and those people would have had better prospects had they put in as much effort into hustling within Nigeria than embarking on that journey of no return. |

2019: Lagos APC resolve to elect candidates through direct primaries
…To Commence Registration Of New Members, As Tinubu Insist Party Intact
…Ambode Lauds Decision, Says Resolution‘ll Deepen Democracy
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday resolved to elect candidates who will fly the flag of the party at next year’s general elections through direct primaries which will involve all members of the party.
To this end, the party said it would immediately commence the process of registering new members, while the old members who have registered before now as well as the new members would all be issued membership cards Addressing members of the party at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said it was gratifying to report that the party had resolved to register additional members, adding that membership register would be opened to facilitate the process, which eventually would be used for direct primaries.
He said: “We appeal to all our members to update the membership registration and embrace the direct primary that has just been introduced and adopted by our party. We are committed to our party; we are committed to the values of the party; we see direct primary as President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption and internal democracy revolution.
“We are going to embrace that in which the party is going back to the owners of the party and that is you the people. It is not we the few; it is we the people. We have embraced democracy and you have your decisions to be made but you have to be members of our party in the first place,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu also dismissed the insinuation that the party is divided in the State, saying there is nothing of such, and that the party is intact. “We reiterate the fact that APC in Lagos State is intact. There is no division. I’ve heard some people conspiring to present a situation of division in the party in Lagos but let me assure you that it is just the coming together of adversaries which will have no effect on the party,” Tinubu said.
Besides, he said the party at the State level also passed a resolution commending the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo for taking decisive actions to save the party and the nation from any embarrassment, saying: “We commend his efforts; we stand with him; and we stand with all members of our party,” just as the party commended all the steps taken so far by APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
The party equally urged members to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) before the expiration of registration deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In his remarks, the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode commended Tinubu for kick-starting the revolution for direct primaries, saying the process would go a long way to deepen democracy in the country.
“There is no better time to appreciate our National Leader (Tinubu) than now. What we have just witnessed is the beginning of a revolution about the deepening of democracy in Nigeria. People might not understand what is going on but we are giving power to the people and it is starting from APC.
“So, we want to collectively say a big thank you to Asiwaju for championing this silent revolution and it is very simple; what we are saying is that if we know that Lagos State is truly controlled by APC, we would champion a revolution that has never been witnessed before in this country and that means each member of our great party will now determine who becomes the President of this country and by so doing, we create the championship that Lagos State has the votes and Lagos State has the numbers to make things happen in this country,” the Governor said.
He said the party in the State, with the development, was laying a solid foundation, and that the onus was now on others to build on it and allow Nigeria arrive at its destined destination.
According to the Governor, “So, for us to say that all the people should go and get their membership, is going to now determine how many of us are really APC members. We want to determine what really controls political positions in this country and whoever has gone to defect, we are saying that there are no defectors in Lagos State and defection is a major loss to whoever has defected.
“By the time we count ourselves; by the time we count all the members of APC in Lagos State, other parties will understand where APC is going and that is the assignment for all of us. Each member will get a minimum of 100 new members and by the time we do our count, we should be so sure that that is what should happen in other States and we would deliver the next general presidential election to Muhammadu Buhari by the grace of God,” Governor Ambode said. The meeting was well attended by chieftains and members of the party across the State. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/08/2019-tinubu-hails-osinbajo-as-lagos-apc-adopts-direct-primaries/ |

You don't get it, do you? I am not saying they shouldn't be paid. Rather my point is that the state government ought to find ways to reduce its workforce so that it will have more money to spend on projects and infrastructures that will benefit the masses who are way more than the civil servants in the state. With good infrastructures, private businesses will be more willing to bring their money to invest in the state to create good jobs that won't depend on government salaries, and in effect the government will be able to collect taxes that will increase its IGR to enable it do more for the masses.
As it stands, money spent on salaries are gulping too much of the state's funds so much that the government will then have no other option than to resort to borrowing just to do projects.
And unless this is corrected, Adeleke himself, in spite of his promises, will only record 'payment of salaries' as his only achievement in office because there will be very little money left to do much else after clearing the salaries, unless he also resorts to borrowing heavily to fund capital projects. So the cycle will continue until everything collapses. |
