RomanceRe: Loneliness & Dating Abroad: Perspectives of a Nigerian Student in The U.S by afube: 10:28pm On Apr 10, 2020
Crispels:
Lol. Not all black Americans are like that tho. I have great black American friends. The problem is: so many Nigerian immigrants come here “extremely hungry for success” and they end up achieving a lot within a short time - which sometimes lead to tension between immigrants from Africa and native black Americans. They believe we are taking their positions in America after our ancestors sold them during slave trade and that we didn’t experience the difficulties they experienced - slavery, fight for civil rights and stuff like that.

Many Nigerians abroad are also too loud as well - they tend to show off their landmark successes and some now have the mentality that “if an average Nigerian can come from a village in Nigeria to become an Engineer or a Millionaire(in dollars) in the US, then any native black American who is struggling to be somebody in life as an American is lazy and unserious”. The black Americans hear and see these things and they feel insulted that after we(not us but our ancestors tho) sold them to slavery, we still have the effrontery to come to America to ride them anyhow we like. They believe Nigerians thrive in America because they made it possible for us: they are the ones who fought for equality in the US and stuff like that.

That is why many black Americans feel weird when some statistics show that over 77% of black doctors in the US are Nigerians and that majority of the blacks being admitted to ivy League schools are Nigerians and Nigerian - Americans. They feel that we are reaping where we did not sow and many of our fellow Nigerians are also not humble enough about their successes. They blow their trumpets so loud that it invites envy from black Americans and even immigrants from other African countries.

About two months ago, I was in Washington DC when one of my professors(who is a White American) confessed to a diverse gathering of people that Nigerians are very smart, hard working and talented(I was the only Nigerian there). Immediately after my professor said it, one other African immigrant there began to feel uncomfortable and she had to say it publicly that “Nigerians have not done or achieved enough to earn the hype people have for them in America”. I just smiled and kept quiet. I’ve learned not to be too loud about myself in the US because when they see that you are moving faster than them, they may begin to see you as a threat and plot bad things toward you. Many Nigerians abroad also need to learn this - it’s better to be humble and not make noise about your achievements.

In the end, as a Nigerian in the US, I do not have any superiority or inferiority complex towards anyone - regardless of race, nationality, sex, orientation or social status. In fact, it saddens my heart when I see African immigrants and black Africans having misunderstandings. The reason being that: these black Americans are also our brothers and sisters if we want to be true to ourselves. All my black American friends have Nigerian DNA. In fact, some of them are over 87% Nigerians(according to the results of their ancestry/DNA test). So, I see no reason why we all(black Americans, Nigerians, Nigerian -Americans, all African immigrants) cannot love each other and support ourselves.

Many Nigerians and Nigerian -Americans need to be more humble about their phenomenal successes as well albeit people should not try to downplay the immense efforts, pains, sacrifices, hard work and drive that most Nigerians abroad pour into life to achieve great things.

Finally, we all should not dwell in the past. We cannot change what happened during the slave trade - it was an unfortunate incidence but that is now history. More so, we were not the ones that sold them into slavery and not all African immigrants have condescending opinions about black Americans. Majority of us love them and we see them as a part of us. African immigrants should see black Americans as their brothers and sisters, vice versa. We all need to work together and put our differences/biases aside.

IN THE END, WE ARE ALL AFRICANS! ONE LOVE!!!
I love your measured and considered comments......... I can see you are firmly on the path to great success in America. kudos
PoliticsRe: Six Reasons Why Nigeria Can Never Develop As A Nation by afube: 3:28am On Apr 09, 2020
GlobeAdventurer:
1. Neo Colonial Composition:

The British designed and left Nigeria to be dependent on them. They deliberately handed political power to the less educated North to enhance a sustainable dominance and underdevelopment for them to exploit. Nigerians has sustained this structure mainly due to point number 2.

2. Ethnic and Religious Division:

The ethnic and religious suspicion among Nigerians makes it possible for people that are anti-developmental and inept to be at the helm of affairs in the country. This was the main reason why Buhari could win an election in Nigeria. This would have been impossible in the Western World. This is the reason why Atiku can display the audacity to still contest for a presidential seat in Nigeria. It is possible to be a criminal and still rise to become a president in Nigeria. All you need is to be of the right religion and ethnic group. The elites understand this and they use it to exploit the Nigerian masses.

3. Corruption and Greed:

When corruption is mentioned most times, fingers point towards politicians. The truth is that it starts from the masses. The average Nigerian is corrupt and greedy. Once they taste power, these aspects manifest. A typical example is Adams Oshiomole. Corruption is visible at the family level in Nigeria. It is a mindset that has plagued the country for centuries. An average Nigeria would rather work to make quick money to flaunt and belittle poor. The fact that a lecturer would want to sleep with a student to give them high marks in their studies is a pointer to this fact. Go to the markets, look at the way that people place their wares to sell, you will see them blocking roads and selling at places designated for other purposes. That is possible because they have bribed their way to ensure that they are allowed to sell at those spots. They are the masses, not politicians. Corruption runs deep among Nigerians.

4. Illiteracy:

Most Nigerians are illiterate despite their university degrees. This is evident in the way development is being approached. For example, while the developed world is heading towards more of vocational competency for their youths, Nigerian youths are still chasing certificates in universities that are not properly managed. It is a typical case of gabbage in and gabbage out. The average university in Nigeria is now a breeding ground for criminals and prostitutes. This reflects in the wider society as these youths graduate to look for nonexistent jobs. When they can’t find them, they unleash their social vices because they lack valuable skills. When they muster enough money to flaunt, they join politics to compound the woes of the nation.

5. Fear of Government and Love of Life:

Despite the very bad conditions that politicians subject the masses, there is little or no backlash. The average Nigerian is so scared of soldiers and other members of the armed forces, yet these soldiers have proven to be weak when subjected to an actual religious based rebellion e.g Boko Haram which has worsened the bad condition of the masses. A Nigerian would run and hide to avoid soldiers and thugs while their fundamental rights as Nigerians are being deprived. This was evident in the last elections. Thugs, who are also members of the masses, unleashed violence, and Nigerian voters ran away even though they outnumber these thugs. With this trend, a criminal can easily win elections and dictate the direction of the destinies of Nigerians.

6. Astronomic Increase of National Debt:

The ineptitude of the current government has led to the skyrocketing of the national debt of Nigeria within a very short period of time. As it stands, the price of crude oil has crumbled, and Nigeria may just spend many years slaving to pay back China their money. This will completely cripple Nigeria. Due to the shortsightedness of Nigerians, these dangers are not being perceived yet. I foresee a new Asian colonial power, CHINA, taking over Nigeria in a few years time.

The best solution is for Nigeria to adopt a Con-Federal system of government or to completely be dissolved. This will unleash the potentials in every region and states in Nigeria as the necessity for innovation will increase.

An objective analysis of the current condition of Nigeria will reveal that it is easier for a camel to pass to the eye of the needle than for Nigeria to develop as it is. It is close to IMPOSSIBLE!
number 2 is the most potent reason Nigeria is going nowhere soon.....the ethnic rivalries are so bad that I do not see how the south can ever come together to throw off Fulani colonialism.
specifically....the rivalry between Igbo and Yoruba is the greatest obstacle to the Blackman's complete emancipation. it is so sad

My grandfather fought under Major Williams in Obubra sector and definitely faced those Chadian soldiers (infamously nicknamed Gwodo Gwodo) cause of their unusually huge frames, extremely dark skins and heavy tribal marks... he confirmed they were some ruthless bastards who just sprayed anything and anywhere they faced with heavy machine gunfire without a care in the world... my grand-dad must have been 16 years old at the time, just fresh from "training" and green to the war front with barely 6 weeks of military training at Enugu, he was armed with just a submachine gun with few rounds of ammunition. Yet those boys dug in and fought like true warriors, decimated the mercenary soldiers and made sure none of them crossed the estuary alive into Cross river areas till they ran out of ammunition and retreated. Major Williams it must be noted was a South African white mercenary who genuinely had so much love and respect for the Biafran soldiers, he was the last of the very few mercenaries who actually stayed and fought with Biafra despite the acute lack of weaponry, supplies, and payment from the Biafran government. God bless our heroes!
that generation of young Biafran soldiers is the finest of the finest.............noble and brave men! when Biafra comes we will build a monument to eulogize their feat.......great lads!!!

The fact is, well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians and even car manufacturers or assemblers like Innoson donated cars, ambulances, and money, but we are yet to si 1kobo or 1 single car or ambulance donation by Innoson.

ChimaAdeoye:
You are responding to all these yorubas that will suddenly find fake "patroitism" and indivisibility of Nigeria once they hear the word "Biafra"

Fortunately for them, they helped Biafra in no small way by campaigning for the incaceration of Nnamdi Kanu and invasion of his home last year to totally silence him through murder.

I don't approve of Nnamdi Kanu's tactics of insulting people and using ONLY one approach. But Ndigbo are well within their rights as citizens of this world to hold a referendum to determine their future. It is indeed an article in the UN Human Rights declaration.

My only hope is that Nnamdi Kanu understands that there are multiple levels that have been used to tie Igbos down in Nigeria. Such as through giving them 5 states, while others had 6 or 7, giving Igbo states the tiniest allocations, denying Igbo states of any Federal infrastructure, while using all sorts of gimmicks to create controversies on the existing such as AIIA, Enugu, Second Niger Bridge, Onitsha seaport, exclusion of the zone from national railway masterplan etc. to hide their true intention of shutting down the SE economically for good. We cannot merely keep talking "Referendum" for infinity, while our resources are stolen and used to develop other parts of Nigeria. Either we STOP the resources from being exploited and exported or we get a fair benefit from them as we decide what shape and form the referendum will take.

Finally, we cannot simply abandon the politicial space just to prove that we want referendum. The full struggle for political power and equitable representation in Nigeria must be pursued with the full force as the referendum debate. Imagine if somebody like Sen Abaribe were not elected, which Senator would have signed Nnamdi Kanu's bail if we had people like Orji Uzor Kalu and Chris Ubah as Igbo senators? Therefore, you can see the folly of IPOB abandoning electing pro-Biafra representatives into all our public offices.

My strong suspicion is that DSS already knows that if all SE public office holders were pro-Biafra, then the topic will inevitably be discussed at the highest levels of government. Therefore, they have spread the silly idea among IPOB that voting for elections in Nigeria amounts to voting against Referendum. It is so sad, but it is true that we IPOB now works for the enemy. Unless something is urgently done, IPOB will simply lose all its grassroot support and in time, they will increasingly be treated as Boko Haram members by even Igbos who will clearly view IPOB as not representing Igbo interests whatsoever.

The ONLY thing Igbo had going for it in Nigeria have been the use of their God given brain to avoid the traps set for them by the Nigerian state. IPOB has so far showed that it is neither concerned about using the Igboman's brain to fight this struggle, nor do they have any desires to avoid booby traps set for them by Nigeria. It is a tragic mistake on their part to continue with a single strategy in the face of their enemies employing multiple strategies to cage them. Including trying to isolate their opinions in the SE. Because IPOB are run by a lot of exuberant young people, their simple response to any trap they cannot easily find a way to avoid is to step right into it and deal with the consequences down the line. That will be a suicidal mistake to make.
The strongest point of IPOB in my opinion is their consistency and steadfastness.....it's their unique selling point!

Kudos to our courageous uniformed men and women, who day and night put life and limb in danger to hold back the flood of evil called boko haram....may the Good Lord continue to protect them,Amen!

But how do we help our overwhelmed Commander in chief....GEJ to lift the overall war effort to a greater level of effectiveness,we have heard of numerous security council meetings with service chiefs but apart from FG' s commitment to fund the equipping of the army and sister services, nothing new has come out of these meetings, brethren how can we help our nation win this war?

In my opinion the current service chiefs are doing their best but I feel the president must as a matter of urgency set up a kitchen war cabinet....that body will act as a think tank to audit, peruse and counsel the president on reports and briefs on the war effort sent to him by his service chiefs and security agencies.....I need the house to nominate names that will strengthen the presidet's arms in this trying times!

For advice on war strategy,I nominate general alabi-isama....(.former chief of staff 3rd marine commando NIG. Army during the civil war),general Alani akinrinade (another Nig.army civil war commander),general Alex madiebo(ex commander biafran army ).

For advice on military tactics I nominate all former commanders of ecomog forces still alive, general olurin.....general Timothy shelpidi,....general Joshua dongonyaro,......I will also nominate colonel nwawo ( the ex biafran officer that recaptured umuahia and aba from federal forces)

For war propaganda...I nominate mr tony iredia(former Nta dg)....senator Uche Chukwu merije ...and mr paddy Davis ( all worked for Biafra info directorate......

4Play: We don't have Algeria's smaller population. This is what I object to in all these comparisons with other oil producing states as by misdiagnosing our problems we will never solve them.

Because we know our country is corrupt, we assume that we can have the same financial resources as other oil rich nations and that corruption is the sole stumbling block.

We simply cannot afford the military armaments that Algeria can afford.
Bros.....nigeria has a GDP far higher than Algeria's.......talking of population china has ten times our population......they have managed to build a foreign reserve in excess of 1 trillion dollars....we are punching well below our weight.we need to get off our lazy butts and PRODUCE STUFF....if we cannot buy the basic arms we need to prosecute this war,let us try to make them, Biafra produced rifles, rockets and armored vehicles under severe and punishing bombardment....nigeria has hundreds of universities and poly technics, thousands of companies in various technology fields and millions of talented men and women......my people let us move,WE CAN DO IT!!!!

Henry120: The algerians recently placed an order for 42 ( I didn't stutter), 42 MI-28N havoc attack helicopters. They got a defence budget of $10 billion per annum. The Algerians don't negotiate with terrorists, the Al amenas refinery hostage crisis gives a crystal clear position on their stance against terrorists.

The Algerians have also placed orders and started receiving 1000 Fauch up-graded Armoured personnel carriers.

The Algerians are also Receiving 2 state of the art LPD, amphibious ships from italy.

The algerians are pro-active and go for what their military requires. 6 MI-35M's are very insignificant when we require at-least 30 MI-35M's. Our government have left our military in a state of dis-repair where it has taken us 5 years and still counting to defeat a bunch of illiterate insurgents.

In 2014, we send troops to ambush prone areas with pick-up trucks. Our government now run our military like a "peasant army".
My brother, naija's case is a sad story of squandering of riches.....algeria has a foreign currency reserve of 230 billion dollars, nigeria's dollar reserves is just about 50 billion dollars.......flashback to 2004, both nations were at par in respect to foreign reserves.

Algeria has gone on to increase their reserves, while our politicians have managed to squander ours on properties abroad, private jets and estates in banana republic or is it banana island.

Brethren I sincerely believe that God's hand of judgement is about to descend on this nation and its looting class....

PoliticsRe: Nigerian Army's Campaign In The North Eastern Theatre (Photos) by afube: 8:50pm On Jul 20, 2014
The bare essence of any COIN operation is to CONSTRICT AND CONSTRAIN two things that are of inestimable value to the likes of boko haram, these are TIME AND SPACE!! To do this, methinks the young, virile and strong males of gwoza, bags, damboa etc.who in my view are better suited to be screened and recruited into the army asap.....besieged Biafra turned 16 and 17year olds into fighting men in 4weeks max,we can comfortably recruit and train 50,000 borno men and volunteers from elsewhere to increase the boots on the ground.these 50,000 new recruits should be deployed on the ground to provide defense for the far off and isolated towns that boko haram love to feast upon, the extremely isolated hamlets should be evacuated please....the new troops allied with our more experienced troops armed with tanks and artillery should effectively deny boko haram of the SPACE,they seem to enjoy now.
To deny boko haram the value of TIME,the army has to go on the offensive, this is where we will need the new equipment FG wants to provide, attack helicopters, the super tucano planes, alpha jets ,special forces ,paratroopers etc. but such forces must be effectively marshaled and deployed by our generals.

If we fail to deny boko haram the values of SPACE AND TIME now, they may capture maiduguri in a few weeks time......we have to act now
