CrimeTrader Arrested For Naming Pet Dog ‘buhari’ by Aghans(op): 7:10am On Aug 17, 2016
A 30-year-old trader has been arrested by the police in Ogun state for naming his pet dog ‘Buhari.’
The trader, Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, of No 10, Omikunle Street, Sango-Ota, Ogun State, was reportedly arrested last weekend, after one of his neighbours of Northern extraction complained bitterly that he named his dog after his father, Alhaji Buhari.
Vanguardlearned that the complainant reported the case at Sango Police Station, last Saturday, after which the trader was arrested and detained.
However, it was gathered that efforts by the police to recover the dog, which they intended using as evidence failed following a clever move by the suspect.
The trader, said to be trading in female wears at a popular market in Sango, allegedly directed his friends secretly to kill the dog and possibly eat the meat in order to avoid being implicated. It was gathered that consistent appeals by his friends and relations for the police to grant him bail failed as the complainant and his kinsmen reportedly threatened to kill the trader if he was released on bail.
Trader denied bail
The case, however, took a different dimension two days later when Chinakwe’s relatives went to Sango police station to further plead for his bail only to be informed that the case file and the suspect have been transferred to Ogun State Police Command headquarters at Eleweran.
A relation to the suspect, who simply identified himself as Chiedozie, toldVanguardthat his brother was being persecuted for no just cause and expressed fears that he may either be poisoned inside police cell or thrown into jail.
Chiedozie said: “Chinakwe is a lover of dogs and he names them after things that tickle him. He bought this dog a year ago and named it Buhari. Unfortunately, some Northerners, who dominate the vicinity where he resides misconstrued his intention and connived to take him up. The complainant then claimed it was derogatory because his father answers Buhari.”
Police sources, however, toldVanguardthat the actions of the suspect “were very provocative.”
The source said: “he not only named the dog Buhari but boldly wrote it on the body of both sides of the dog and was seen parading the neighbourhood dominated by Northerners with it.”
As at press time, relations to the suspect were still making frantic efforts to effect his bail while his accusers are insisting that he must be prosecuted.
Police confirms arrest
When contacted around 8pm yesterday, the acting Police spokesman in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, ASP, said he was still trying to get the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Sango for details.
Oyeyemi later called, stating that: “I have made enquiries. The man bought a dog and inscribed Buhari on both sides of its body. One Mallam lodged a complaint and when our men got there, we found out that it was true. You know such thing can cause serious breach of the peace and ethnic or religious unrest. We are charging him to court for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.”
Continuing, he said: “He was arrested last Saturday and we are taking him to court later today (Tuesday) or tomorrow morning (today). You know an average Northerner will feel bad over such a thing. It can cause serious ethnic crisis or religious confrontation because when you are relegating such a name to a certain person, you are indirectly insulting him.”
When asked about the whereabouts of the dog that will be used as evidence against the suspect, the police spokesman said: “The dog cannot follow anybody except the owner. We will use him as our evidence because he did not deny it.”

PoliticsFr Mbaka Absolves Buhari, Blames Jonathan by Aghans(op): 2:39pm On Aug 07, 2016
Fiery Enugu Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has predicted bleak future for the country, saying that many Nigerians would die in the present economic meltdown.
Mbaka-Buhari
He, however, said that President Muhammadu Buhari was not responsible for the hunger in the country, blaming his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, for the situation.
Mbaka, who was reacting to media reports about his scathing remarks on the high level of hunger in the country as well as the implications for Buhari’s second term election, said Jonathan’s administration was responsible for the myriads of problems facing the country.
In a statement entitled,“Fr. Mbaka’s assertion `There is hunger in Nigeria’: Not an attack on President Buhari”, Mbaka, yesterday, denied ever bashing Buhari for the country’s economic problems or the level of suffering in the country.
The cleric had been quoted in a sermon on Wednesday as saying Nigerians were hungry as a result of Buhari’s economic policies, saying the President would lose the 2019 polls if the situation persisted. The statement came against the backdrop of Mbaka’s position ahead of the 2015 polls in favour of Buhari.
The statement, yesterday, signed by Mbaka’s spokesman, Maximus Ike Ugwuoke, said he observed with keen concern the news trending in some sections of the media that he “attacked” Buhari.
“The news headline is not only sensational but also a censorious media colouration and hype of the message of the cleric titled, “Bless and Be Blessed” for whatever ends”, the statement said.
The statement explained that although Mbaka lamented the high level of hunger and suffering in the country, it was followed by another message where he said Buhari was not responsible for the situation but the previous administration.
It pointed out that the controversial message was followed by another one entitled, “Mega Change of Conditions” , saying the second message absolved Buhari of blames about the economy and hunger in the country.
“There is sword that is moving about in the country. People are dying like flies. The sword of Hunger is eating the land. And as I have told you, this is just the beginning. If anybody is telling you it is going to be well very soon that person is deceiving you. This is because many of us were among those that were alive during the years of the past government. The past PDP government was like the grasshoppers and locusts (regimes to Nigerian). The past government was a disaster to the land of Nigeria; the past government was cancer to this country. There is no need trying to cover their incalculable and iniquitous mess. If you don’t feel it now, you will feel it later”, the statement said.
Hunger is everywhere; the hunger was created before this new government came in. Buhari is not the maker of the hunger.
“The hunger was created during the Jonathan’s PDP administration but Buhari should abate the long procrastination, bureaucracy and slow methods in tackling it.
“That is why I have been saying and I keep on saying that the past administration should publicly come to apologize to Nigerians. “He, therefore maintained that contrary to media reports, Fr. Mbaka merely reiterated the obvious sufferings that Nigerian are facing (which even the president himself had at points acknowledged and sued for patience and perseverance) and advised the president on the ways to tackle it, that is, by engaging economic gurus and listening to good advisers.
Message background
“In the background of the message, Fr. Mbaka encouraged the gallant warrior, President Buhari, to continue his battle against corruption and insurgency asserting that if not a man like President Buhari, by now people may have stopped going to church and mosques. Boko Haram might have wrecked this country. People might have equally stopped going to schools, markets etc. kudos to Buhari.
“Fr. Mbaka revealed that corruption, insurgency and poor governance by past governments gave birth to three horrible children (1) Hunger (2) Anger (3) Danger”.
Nigerians are hungry: Cleric sends Saraki to Buhari
Meanwhile, a cleric has sent Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the President should be told that there is hunger and suffering in the country. The Vicar and Archdeacon of Ikoyi Diocese, Anglican Church, said Buhari should move fast to address the concerns of the people.
In his sermon at the funeral service for the late Dr. Ebenezer Aboyowa Ikomi, held at Our Saviour’s Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, yesterday, Oyetunde said the economic situation is making Nigerians feel their lives have only changed for the worse and that government is not doing enough to address the situation. According to him, there is mass unemployment, inflation and hunger in the country up to the point that “Nigerians now really feed from the dustbin”.
He warned that it might get to a point that political leaders in the country will not be able to walk freely on the streets.
The bad economy, which is not receiving good attention, he stated, has created other social and political problems which are making the entire country unsafe for residents and visitors.
Oyetunde noted the presence of the number three citizen in the congregation, saying there was certainty that the message would get to the President and could propel some positive actions that will change the course of things for better for the people.
The cleric believed the Senate, led by Saraki, and the entire National Assembly ought to work with Buhari and also involve other Nigerians in the bid to solve the socio-economic problems plaguing the country.
On the anti-corruption fight, he commended the Buhari government but advised it to adopt the plea bargain option in which government can at least ensure that it gets 70 percent of the money stolen and use it for the funding infrastructural development and social services.
Journalists at the occasion could not get Saraki to respond to the issues raised by the cleric. But one of the aides in his entourage said the Senate President was worried by the statements of the Archdeacon, “who was obviously speaking the minds of the ordinary citizens”. The aide, however, said it was unfortunate that while Oyetunde spoke to the Senate President as the number three citizen with the responsibility to find solutions to the problems, the reality on ground is that the executive and legislature were not working together as they should.

NYSCRe: NYSC Allowances In 26 States Across Nigeria by Aghans(m): 9:25am On Jun 30, 2016
Seuncoded:
In Nigeria, every year fresh graduates travel across the nation to different states in a scheme called National Youth Service Corps popularly called NYSC.

The NYSC scheme was an initiative of the Yakubu Gowon military regime in 1973 to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war.

While many Nigerians have called on successive governments to scrap the scheme as they say it has outlived its usefulness, many others have asked that the scheme should be retained.

Youth corp members working on road signs in Abuja recently
After three weeks in the camps where they are taken through rigorous physical routine, the corp members are then posted to a place of primary assignment.

Apart from the uniform salary paid to youth corp members nationwide, state governments where the NYSC members are posted also give them some allowances.

We lists the allowances of NYSC members in 26 states across the federation.

CrimeTroops Clear Njima Camp In Sambis, Kill 15 Terrorists by Aghans(op): 11:23am On May 18, 2016
In continuation of the Nigerian Military’s special clearance and rescue operations otherwise known as Operation Crackdown, troops of 7 Division have on Tuesday, cleared Boko Haram terrorists out of their Njimia camp within Sambisa forest.
While advancing earlier in the morning on the same day, the troops also cleared Boko Haram terrorist’s camps at Alafa, where they encountered heavy resistance from Boko Haram terrorists and killed 15 of them.
A statement signed by Col Sani Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations said, “The troops continued their advance through Alafa Main, Alafa Extension and Alafa Yaga-yaga, where they cleared remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists hibernating there before arriving at their main objective, Njimia.
“Apart from destroying the camps, the troops rescued 41 hostages who were mostly women and children. The troops also recovered 2 Dane Guns, several vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles belonging to the terrorists.
“One significant aspect of this feat today was the combination of ground forces assault, Nigerian Air Force Jets provision for combat air support and monitoring of the operation directly by the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu on board Air Force reconnaissance aircraft.
“It is gratifying to note that no casualty was recorded by own troops through the conduct of this operation” he said.
Similarly, Col Usman said, “On Tuesday 17th May 2016, troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army operating under the auspices of Operation MESA in Zamfara State, raided suspected cattle rustlers and armed bandits camp at Yan Mangu forest, near Dandindin village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
“The troops also arrested 2 bandits and recovered 1 AK-47 rifle, 1 AK-47 rifle magazine loaded with 7 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunitions, 3 locally made guns and 1 motorcycle.
“The two suspects were arrested while attempting to flee from the camps.
“Nevertheless, the troops have destroyed all the bandits’ camps in the forest and are further dominating the general area and other flash points with raids and patrols.”
