Sorry for late response, I saw your post at 8:30am but was too busy. Yes, it is done in most countries. Innoson you mentioned cannot sell his cars in Europe and America except it passes their safety tests. The same applies to North America. European cars need to meet American Standards, same applies to American cars being shipped to Europe. Crash test are done, to see how the vehicle can withstand impact at various speeds. Note the manufacturers provide the vehicles which are used for the tests. So, before a manufacturer presents his vehicle for such tests, he is sure of the product. But in Nigeria anything can be shipped into Nigeria. Who tested Innoson vehicles? Where are the crash reports. ![]() On the partnership, it is a welcome development. I am aware DICON do a lot of fabrication, R & D , etc. because they have the facilities. Innoson can leverage DICON's fabrication experience to build purely Nigerian designed engines. This will then make it possible for them to manufacture vehicles with 80% Nigerian components. Forex being used to import those components will be saved. However, It will also be good to hear that corporate organisations are partnering with Institutions of learning, like Universities and Polytechnics, to do research as is done in the advanced countries. The new materials used for phones, vehicles etc are as a result of such research. Most of the recent technological breakthroughs we have been enjoying is through such partnerships. The appointment like I mentioned before is useless, because the Nigerian government just brought a designer to do bureaucratic work unrelated to his field or passion. Now you mentioned it, he should have been brought to work with DICON who are into fabrication which would have benefited this partnership. ![]() |

Some 20 pilot whales were pushed back into the sea by sailors and locals after becoming stranded off the north-eastern coast of Sri Lanka. Several members of the Sri Lankan navy and city residents rescued a pod of the sea mammals from the island's beach near the historic city of Trincomalee on Wednesday. A Navy spokesman, Chaminda Walakuluge, said people joined together to push the whales back into deeper waters after they washed up on the Sampur coast near the port. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnWnjgrsjaU http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/01/pilot-whales-pushed-back-sea-mass-stranding-sri-lanka/ Chai, see as 9ja just missed peppersoup ohhhhhh Whale just got lucky not to be stranded in any of the Nigerian beaches. ![]() |

jantavanta:This your story is comparing apple and oranges. The prof was teaching, there is nothing wrong in bringing him to apply is knowledge into NITDA. It won't be a problem if Nigeria is manufacturing cars and the guy is brought to coordinate the designing aspect. This body was just created to do nothing. What Nigeria needs is a national body that looks into safety of cars, set acceptable standards, etc as is done in other countries, or regions. I am not against bringing in Nigerian experts in diaspora ![]() |
jantavanta:So that is how other countries developed, by bringing back their intellectuals and using them to head boards. ![]() I was expecting the government to make some investment or encourage investors by giving them concessions if they can bring back Nigerian experts in diaspora to work in the companies. This would have ultimately translated to knowledge transfer for those at home. ![]() Is it not demeaning for a designer to come back to head a board that has nothing to do with designing? The white experts will reject such jobs outright without a second thought, because it will kill their passion and career. ![]() |
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, this is good progress, from car designer to mechnaics adviser. ![]() |
