PoliticsRe: Discos: We’ve Offered To Return Our Licences Twice But FG Refused by agitator: 9:07am On Feb 25, 2020
Gnaeusmagnus:
Discos are declaring force majeure because they are not allowed to set their prices.

NERC forces them to in essence sell power at 30 % of the actual cost price, then there is the fact that most people don't pay their bills, and estimated billing even makes the matter worse, and even government agencies owe discos.

This means low income for the discos and by extension the Gencos.

Government could change things by allowing discos to charge the price they want, punish defaulters, pay the discos what they the government owe them, enfrce meter distribution, and so on.

The elephant in the room is that power is expensive, and it is going to cost lots to get to stable & steady power supply
ednut1:
The average nigerian cannot afford electricity that is the main issue
You people with all this garbage mindset.

Bonny in Rivers State has 24hours electricity and all buildings including shanties have power, because they use prepaid meter. Nobody has time for you if you like pay, if you like don't pay. Nobody has bypassed their meters.

In Cross River alone, Naijadriva can confirm that after 8 Miles Calabar to Ugep (where local boys wait for sinking vehicles to push and make money), to Odukpani, to Biase are in a deplorable state.

Calabar - Ikom road is bad. It takes about 8 hours to get to Ikom. Okpoma-Oba Road is bad (near Ogoja and Ebonyi State).

Chief, why are you aguing with that man? He is an elder paid to spread false information.

Those places you see, being touted as tourist attraction is NLNG owned residential area for their workers. You can't gain access except by invitation. It has a very strong access control system using RFID which must be swiped at entrances to gain access to certain area as programmed by the company. The real Bonny community is like the typical Ajegunle town in Lagos. The only difference is that they have 24-hours electricity at cheap tariff, pipe borne water from 5am-6am morning and 5pm-6pm evening daily. The water times are like clock work, it comes in the morning exactly 5am and stops 1-hour later. wink wink wink

By Adedapo Adesanya

She made this comment while answering a question asked by Senator Kasim Shettima as to why the capital market didn’t step up to absorb the effects of Nigeria going into a recession in 2016. /
These people are a big joke. You want to blame capital market for not taking action to stop the recession?

Factors that cause a recession include high interest rates, reduced consumer confidence, and reduced real wages. Effects of a recession include a slump in the stock market, an increase in unemployment, and increases in the national debt.

1. Nigerian banks give loans are very high interest rates. Government is not doing anything to reduce the interest rates to single digits.
2. Many states could not pay salaries, some paid half salaries which reduced real wages
3. Dollar to Naira exchange increase without increase in workers salaries, which also meant reduced real wages.

What did the government do? Which policies did the government put in place? None. Instead government decided to increase tax and imposed additional taxes, which in turn reduced the real wages of workers.
PoliticsRe: List Of States That Can Survive Without Federal Allocation By BudgIT by agitator:
grandstar:
Though Akwa Ibom is on the list, I don't feel it is a true member as its IGR is heavily dependent on the oil sector. It is too exposed to that sector.

Lagos and Rivers I believe are the true champions.
Can the FG survive without oil money and VAT?

Some people just make it seem like the FG is struggling to make money and spoon feeding the states, while it is the other way round. The FG takes all the money from the states and redistribute to all including majority of states that can't survive on its own.

Ogun state that people are shouting just as the Aregbe governor did previously, was the first state to owe workers' salary when the allocations to states reduced due to falling oil prices. huh huh huh

MrBrownJay1:
This stuff happens ALL OVER THE WORLD bro, not only in Nigeria....and thousands are languishing in jails with trumped up charges from dubious cops...but that doesn't mean every person is innocent either.

That boy is lucky, read below the story of the innocent dude who spent 31yrs in US jail, with NO EVIDENCE whatsoever: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/23/fbi-evidence-single-hair-kirk-odom
Nigerians, always comparing apples and oranges. US case a crime was committed, someone filed a complaint and a different person was arrested without tangible evidence of having committed the crime. In Nigeria police arrest and fabricate an imaginary crime against the accused without any complain or witnesses.

tactius:
Discos are forced to charge bills below production costs, so they reject power because they cannot afford it.

Nigerians and government agencies not paying for power makes things worse
You always sound like a local champion. Unfortunately, you are not discussing with your village people.
How can you the playing the same gibberish on auto repeat anytime it is mention that "DISCOs are rejecting power."

Are Discos producing power? They knew the ratio before delving into the business, why the sudden lamentation?

If the power is cheaper than their cost, is there anybody pointing a gun at their head? I read sometime last year that they wanted to revoke their licenses but they refused.

Someone says take power and pay a fixed amount, then sell to you customers with this markup. You reject some of the power.

So filling stations too should be justified to sell fuel above the pump price after the government had sold to them at a fixed price and given the fuel dealers a maximum markup they can add. I suggest you should also importune the masses to accept the filling stations sell at market price since the N145 is below production cost, the same way you have been doing for the DISCOs.

Don't you people look into the family you are marrying into?

It is very obvious her mother doesn't care about marital values and the place of a wife in a home.

I am not an agitator for divorce and I'll tell you that thus is not enough reason for a divorce.

Give it a try, sit her down, tell her the things you won't accept in the marriage anymore, that until you see changes, you won't give her your all.

Tell her to focus on you and leave her family alone.

joey150:
How does everybody else cope in Nigeria?

How do other businesses that rely on electricity cope?

I freelance in my spare time, but this question reeks of attention seeking in my honest opinion.

Almost every Nigerian has to contend with epileptic power supply in one way or the other. From the small artisan shop around the corner to the big multinational companies in posh and lush locations.

A freelancer is no exception to the rule, neither is their struggle any different.
Nigerians always offpoint.

He asked a question. if you have no advice for him, why castigate him.
