The traditional rulers and elders of Lokoja have absolved their youth of allegations that they were behind the attack on Governor Yahaya Bello during a recent Juma’at prayer. Speaking, yesterday, at the Lokoja Day Celebration, Walin Lokoja, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Idrisu (Rtd) told the gathering that their people never had any course to disagree with any governor to the point of pelting him with stones. He said that the attack was carried out by “miscreants and not youths of Lokoja” as it was alleged, adding that Lokoja people respect constituted authorities. “Lokoja people are not trouble makers because they believe leadership comes from Almighty God,” he said. “If for any reason your son becomes a leader, please follow him because if you don’t, the Almighty God will curse you. So, we have no reason to stone any governor. It is not in our character. We have never stoned any governor.” Another elder of Lokoja, Alhaji Aliyu Lawal Biya, said there was need for people to respect those in position of authority since power comes from God. “Voting is immaterial, it is God who appoints, so, we should be obedient to God,” he said.
