O.D.B.:I am not sorry to say that you are an id**t and an ignorant slowpoke. You make me so angry! |
I care and I hate your selfish attitude. Shame on you, what a narrow minded thing you are!! O.D.B.: |
That's awesome!! I hope she has contributed to knowledge with evidence of valuable conference and journal publications. If she has published work, I would respect her more but all the same I rejoice with her. |
Emysandy: kool, l'm happy u re here. 1. As a student wat was ur experience @ school. 2. As an Alumni wat is ur experience in regard to ur qualification @ Emu. Give a picture of ur student life (just the general info). I think @ wip7. shared remarkable info, and l think he is a staff here, right?. Now l want a student or Alumni to share the experience eg 1. How supportive re the campus mentor.EMU is a very nice place to be, the best way to enjoy EMU and Cyprus as a whole is to just obey the rules. The campus is serene and conducive for study/research, the professors are friendly (in my department), Cyprus is the 5th safest place in the world, if you work hard you get what you deserve + recognition for it. The EMU campus is world class, it can compete with any campus in the world in terms of beauty, it is very well laid out! Life in Cyprus could be expensive but if you have good support it is ok. There are social events organized by the school and individuals, I always advice to stick to the ones organized by the school and close friends if you have any. There are lots of Africans in Cyprus so "belonging" should not be an issue but it is wise to regulate your association. If you eventually go to EMU, my advice is take advantage of every opportunity presented by the school and your environment, DO NOT do anything illegal, do your best in your academics. Have a blast and visit Turkey once in a while ![]() All the best |
Emysandy: your reply is informative but l will still question you through mail. Do we have any Nairaland member on this thread that is a student of this school?. I will appreciate your comment, if any member here will share his/her personal experience but @ wip7. Check your mail l have a question for you and thanks for ur support.I was a student of EMU, what do you need to know? |
@ Wip My greetings sir! When are newly accepted candidates for fall expected to start paying their tuition fee? Thanks |
It is not fear but being real. The UK schools are not bad but why pursue something I have to pay so much for when I can get the same and most times better for free? Please correct me if I wrong but I do not think emphases are made on publishing work in the UK. I know it is three years but again why should I do a PhD, pay so much for it and at the end there is no single publication to my name? I rather spend 4-5 years and come out with top notch publications that will earn me Assistant Prof. upon completion. pato405: I can see a lot of students are really scared of coming to the UK. |
A PhD is definitely the first step. Just like T22 pointed out, I rather obtain a PhD from the US, Australia or Canada. Some of the schools even require that you publish a top journal paper before completion of your PhD. If you have a journal publication(s) it is very likely that you also have top quality conference contributions too. The publications are evidence that you have contributed to knowledge and that is what a lecturer should do. So the number of quality publications you have will boost your chances of being employed as a lecturer any where in the world. I am presently an Engineering PhD student in Turkey and it is far better than Nigeria. It is possible to do your research under the guidance of a professor who has funding for his research work. Such professors advertise positions like job openings so if you make a nice application, you can get accepted by the professor and most likely by the university as well. The thing to do is, identify a University, then the department, then faculty members. Most faculty members have a webpage where they announce all sort of stuff including open positions in research projects for PhD students (Some even want Masters students as well). The pay is usually just enough, call it a stipend if you like. The good thing is you do not have to pay huge the tuition fees while you do your research. I am not sure but I do not think we have any internationally recognized journal in Nigeria so a lot of the Nigerian based researchers have publish stuff that are not even good enough for an international conference. I strongly discourage a PhD in Nigeria, an MSc or MA is bad enough! With good grades and a thorough search you can find a good school in Europe or America with funding. Again, funding opportunities in the UK are very limited and the tuition fees are sky high. I want to continue research but I know it is not far from being a lecturer so I do not mind lecturing either. I wish you all the best! |
elijah05:Guys please be ware of "packages" I'm not saying you should not help a brother but make sure you know exactly what is in the package. If it is sealed ask for it to be opened so you can be sure of what is in it, if it can't be opened then please don't take it. Also don't accept to help people giving you stuff to deliver when you are in the airport, most times you can't cross check it, but if you can cross check then go ahead and help if you can. **Many people suffer in prison because of a "package" they innocently collected to help someone** A word is enough for the wise, wip can tell you more i'm sure! |
What a stupid lot, may they choke on their own blood ![]() |
Crap! |
The situation in Nigeria is not funny but what she said is. |
<Copied from a friend, probably a joke> Our First lady has kicked off in 2012 oh, Why is Nigerians blame my husband for fuel strike and Boko Haram attackment?, Is it not old enough to knew what is best for our country? He have not ate breakfast because of this rumourings, please you know that if our president did not eaten, there shall be problem, Super Comedian without being in any audition center. Lol <Sorry for posting this without verification and if it has provoked anyone. I just got this from a friend and decided to share, I don't know for sure if she did say this or not. Whatever the case might be, it is damn hilarious> |
and who gave him the power to send anyone to hell ![]() This man has really pissed me off this evening |
I tried very hard not to make any comment about this but it has really got me angry ![]() What does that slap prove, that he's angry? If he beleives that she is demon possessed then he should just deliver her as Christ did. Her English is obviously not good enough for her to adequately express herself and he slapped her, and even if her English was good enough, is a demon not capable of taking over her and speaking those words? How dare he slap her? Does that slap affect the supposed demon in her? This is so wrong on so many levels |
This is just one out of so many Nigerians making waves out there. Search in the American universities renowned Nigerian scholars especially in the field of engineering. He should not burn his bridges though, congrats to him |
Andrew c'mon, Don't spoil this |
@ Olayemisamuel I'm glad you found this thread. wip will help you without any hassle. About the research assistantship, try and be in touch with the department and the chairman. It is possible |
@ NikkyBobo wip and iz2much are both on this forum. You can reach wip at skool4una@gmail.com as well Good luck |
NikkyBobo:Get in touch with iz2much for CIU, you don't need any agent (them go chop your money). I advice you to also look at other schools in North Cyprus like Eastern Mediterranean University: get in touch with wip for that. Yes, it is true that once you have secured an admission and paid your fees, visa is garanteed. Just contact the people I have made reference to. |
Live like you do in Nigeria, give yourself a treat once in a while, take hold of opportunities when they come and do all you can to stay out of trouble. That's the summary of how to enjoy life as a student in North Cyprus. Everything you need to know has been said on this thread. Quality of education is a lot better than Nigeria and can even be compared to some of the developed countries. If you are coming here to study please come and have a nice time. I was discussing with someone yesterday and we were comparing prices of food here with Nigeria. We came to the conclusion that it is virtually the same thing. The reason why people complain is that when they get here they want to spend money on things that they don't spend money on in Nigeria. Come with food from home so you don't miss it so much. |
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-694549.0.html this is a reverse case, I think the victims should sue as well |
Stone122:My first mistake was answering you at all |
Stone122:You obviously know nothing about this place dude! Get you facts straight before you start blabbing. But like you said, seeing is believing, I don't need to argue with you, you know nothing. |
I study in EMU and I work here as a research assistant, I have been to two conferences now, in Turkey and Germany all sponsored by the department, I get paid every month and it is comparable with what research assistants earn in some US universities. If you have come here to just work then just get off the Island. Nobody forces you to come here. How many schools give a 50% discount on tuition irrespective of your academic performance. For those saying EMU is shitty, think again. If you don't like it, please leave, no one is holding you back. Rather than spoiling the name of a beautiful institution just stay away, no university in Nigeria has such facilities and will give you such opportunities. I have come to realize that people whol talk down on this school are pure loosers, no ambition, whatsoever. Enough said. Everyone knows Cyprus is not USA, AUstralia or Canada but we also know Cyprus is not NIGERIA if you know what I mean |
I wonder what the Nigerian army has become, please read the story: Written by Saliu Gbadamosi Monday, 20 June 2011 SOME soldiers of the 33 Artillery Brigade headquaters, Bauchi, went berserk, at the weekend, beating up the deputy registrar of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Mr Andee Iheme, and his wife. About eight soldiers pounced on Iheme and his wife, Moji, whipping them, as well as raining verbal insults on the defenceless couple, as sympathisers could only watch helplessly from a distance. The incident, which happened around the Mobile petrol station at the popular Gidan Mai area of the state capital, had caused outrage among the people of Bauchi, as they were getting apprehensive over incidents of human rights violation by soldiers on innocent people. Iheme was groaning in pains as he narrated his ordeal to newsmen on his hospital bed, at the emergency ward of the Abubakar Teaching Hospital, Bauchi. Narrating his ordeal, Iheme said around 7.00 p.m on Saturday, an army Hilux Jeep, with registration number NA 379 E, having 33 written at its back, parked in front of his wife’s car, preventing her from getting out of the petrol station. The development, according to him, prompted his wife to hoot her horn, with a view to getting the soldiers park their van properly. The situation later resulted into verbal attack and beating, where he sustained head injuries, while the wife had a swollen mouth. “I had just finished training of customs men in Public Relations in Calabar and I was on my way back. When I got to Gidan Mai, I called my wife to come and pick me at Mobil petrol station. This was about a few minutes to 4.00 p.m. My wife came and I got into the car. “Just as we were going to get out of the petrol station, a blue Hilux van with two compartments just parked in front of us across the road. So my wife horned for him to move on. The Hilux van refused to move. She horned again. The two persons in front of the van were discharging two girls who were sitting behind. “So when my wife horned again, the next thing we saw was that the man, who was on the driver’s seat did the sign of ‘Uwaka’ (Your Mother) with his two hands to us and I was shocked. “So I told my wife to horn again and she did and this man did ‘Uwaka’ again and switched off the engine of his car. So I wound down my glass and told him if eventually you move this car from here then you are a fool. He came out from the car and gave me a slap and before I knew it, he was using his legs and throwing blows on me,” he said. The Public Relations Officer of the 33 Artillery Brigade, Major A. Etete, confirmed the incident, adding that the men were from the brigade and that investigations were ongoing with a view to fishing out the culprits. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/23759-soldiers-go-beserk-beat-abtu-dep-registrar-wife |

These results speak, looks like CPC is sweeping the north with a much higher margin that PDP is the south |
@ lolatom The cos of a return ticket depends on how long it is valid for. For example, a three-months return ticket from Turkish Airlines is N176,000 while a one-year return ticket is N320,000. So what's the duration of the ticket you are looking for? |
@Iz do you know the luggage allowance for Emirates? |
