Politics › Re: Imf's Visit: Jimoh Ibrahim Warns Buhari To Learn From Ibb's Pitfall by ahaz: 6:06am On Jan 12, 2016 |
omoalayo: Group Managing Director, Energy Group, Jimoh Ibrahim has warned President Muhammadu Buhari to be wary of the IMF’s current visit to Nigeria describing it as an economic bait that will do Nigeria no good. This is even as he enjoined President Buhari to learn from the pitfall of Nigeria’s former Military President, Ibrahim Badamosi Babagida (IBB), when he handed over the economy to IMF by taking specific loan only for the economy to be destroyed with IMF’s painful colonial conditionalities, reports National Mirror. According to Ibrahim, the visit of IMF’s Managing Director, Christine Lagarde is a means of campaigning for economic conditionalities even at a time when Nigeria, like some oil producing countries, needs assistance and support to continue to put into implementation government policies. He said that IMF boss’ statement on the economy is traditional and full of strategic misrepresentation adding that the IMF boss had a full day creating an atmosphere for re-colonizing Nigeria’s economy and advises the government to run away from such unsolicited advice. His words: “I enjoin President Buhari to learn from Ibrahim Badamosi Babagida’s pitfall when he handed over the economy to IMF by taking specific loan only for the economy to be destroyed with IMF’s painful colonial conditionalities. The government of IBB was simply put to an end in economic terms by the Structural Adjustment Programme, an IMF baby which remains the foundation of Nigeria’s problem.” He also describes the statement made by IMF boss as uncalled for and a waste of time. Ibrahim said: “For IMF to advise Nigeria not to be rigid in Economy Policy is an indirect way of asking for devaluation of naira and campaigning for ‘about to come’ IMF conditionalities, knowing very well that Nigeria may ask for assistance

Politics › Re: Open Letter To Mr Buhari From A Soldier In The War Front by ahaz: 5:58am On Jan 12, 2016 |
kozmokaz: Editor’s note: For the second time the Nigerian army soldiers who do not want their personalities to be revealed reach Naij.com with an open letter to the Nigerian government and military authorities. This time a soldier deployed in Bita, Borno state, in close vicinity to the Sambisa forest, the Boko Haram stronghold, exposes the truth about the living conditions, fighting capacity and morale of his fellows. The “daily routine” We are not the only soldiers in North East. We came to Adamawa state, fought hard and recaptured all lost territories from Boko Haram. After two months of recess we were given a task to capture Bita, a community located in Borno state – a stronghold of the Boko Haram terrorists – and hand it over to the troops of the seventh division of the Nigerian army. The task was successfully completed. Ever since then we have been anticipating to hand over to the seventh division only to hear that we have been deployed operationally under the seventh division and administratively under the third division.
This is our eighth months in Bita, a very strong Boko Haram enclave, and today is worse of it all. Today, January 10, 2016, we have come under a heavy terrorist attack, and lost four soldiers; 17 are badly injured. With no air support and little resources we have endured the attack lasting for four hours, and completed it successfully having destroyed much of the enemy’s equipment
. Soldiers need help Please, the army authorities should render us support because we are fed up, and some of our soldiers are beginning to go insane. The day we pull out of Bita the Nigerian army will start all over again. The duty of the Nigerian Air Force is to provide air support for ground troops in combat, and also aid in medical evacuation of casualties. But that has never been the case in operation Lafiya Dole.
When soldiers are injured what you hear is that the zone is not safe to land, but whenever the so-called generals feel like or are compelled to come to front lines, they come with choppers and heavy gunship escorts. Does it mean that the 114 task force battalion with the troops deployed in Bita is no longer hamans? We have the soldiers wounded as a result of the January 10 attack, however, what they say is it is not secure for the choppers to land and evacuate them for prompt medical care. Is security a myth? Are we not secure enough? How many minutes will it take to a helicopter to land and take off? Now the wounded have to go through the bad roads and gallops linking to Bita, which are not safe from mines and enemy ambush. On several occassions we have requested mine sweepers from the theatre commander, the general officer commanding and the seventh division; all to no avail. The equipment is worn out. We have only survived by God’s ultimate love and grace. After 14 months of fighting and eight months on the hostile ground our numbers have reduced drastically owning to the killed and wounded in action. If we are not rotated by the time the soldiers revolt, we will ensure Boko Haram recaptures all the lost territories both in Adamawa and Maiduguri. Then they will know that Boko Haram is still very strong in Nigeria, and they will stop decieving Mr President. This is our ordeal. Ensure I remain secret, as I have got the opportunity to send this because I am the one of those escorting the casualties to the medical centre in Yola. There is no mobile network in Bita.

It's rather surprising and unethicle for pmb to not have congratulated governor Dickson on his recent victory at the polls..one should taught that the change which the APC preach should be manifested in every sphere of it's political activities as we nigerians expected the APC to improve on the political tolerance and lack of bitterness introduced by president Jonathan which has attracted a great deal of respect to our countries political judgement by the international community, but the reverse is the case and this leaves every sane Nigerian with this was question,..are we going forward or backward as a nation? if gej could congratulate other oppositions that one governorship seats In his tenure and did the same to pmb,why should pmb avoid doing just that? |

Politics › Re: Jafaru Isa Returns N100million To EFCC by ahaz: 8:51am On Jan 11, 2016 |
hoseamatoh: A former military governor of Kaduna State and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Jafaru Isa, has refunded N100million of the N170 million he allegedly received from embattled ex-NSA, Sambo Dasuki.
Mr. Isa, a retired brigadier-general, was arrested on Wednesday by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, at his Asokoro residence in Abuja.
Mr. Isa, a political associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, was grilled for several hours in connection with about N170 million he received from Mr. Dasuki.
A reliable source familiar with the matter told PREMIUM TIMES the APC chieftain and member of the 19-man Buhari Transition Committee was released after refunding N100million to the anti-graft commission. The source said Mr. Isa pledged to return the remaining N70million soon.
“We let him go after returning the sum of N100million. We are expecting him to return the rest soon,” the source said. According to him, some of the suspected recipients of the slush funds who claimed they had no idea the money sent to them was taken from the public till were handed opportunities to return what they got from the former NSA but refused.
“We offered them the chance of returning the money honorably but they keep deploying tactics to avoid prosecution, while also going away with the loot,” he said.
A close associate of Mr. Isa told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Dasuki lodged over N100 million into Mr. Isa’s account in instalments to buy a house, located on Mohammed Mohammed Avenue, Kano, for the former NSA.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that deposits were in turn made by Mr. Isa to the owner of the house, Ali Tukur, in two instalments. However, the house purchase deal collapsed as a former Minister of Finance, Yarima Ngama, reportedly offered to pay the sum of N150 million cash when Mr. Dasuki reneged on the payment agreement.
Those familiar with their relationship say Messrs. Isa and Dasuki have been close friends since their cadet days at the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) and had spent four years together while on military training in the United States.
The Peoples Democratic Party had on Sunday protested the release of Mr. Isa barely eight hours after his arrest while its own spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, remained detained.
The PDP, in a statement signed by its National Legal Adviser, Victor Kwon, said there could be no clearer indication that the APC-led administration was on a manhunt against PDP leaders, and that it had a personal grudge against Mr. Metuh, ostensibly for his stance as opposition spokesperson, particularly his recent exchange with the government and the APC over their dictatorial activities.
“The release of Jafaru Isa, a known associate of the President and chieftain of the APC eight hours after his arrest while our spokesman remains in detention even when the two are being investigated over the same allegation clearly shows that the President Buhari-led APC government is not fighting corruption but using the much hyped crusade as a cover to persecute PDP leaders and decimate the opposition, a project the EFCC has clearly yielded itself as a willing tool,” the statement said.

OsusuMustFlow: The Secretary General of African Iron and Steel Development, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi has accused erstwhile Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy in the President GoodLuck Jonathan administration, Dr. Okonjo Iweala of conniving with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to write a phoney audit report on the Ajaokuta Steel Company.
He said the report, which adjudged the company as lacking in prospects was to serve the interest of powerful nations, especially the West, who markets their iron and Steel in Nigeria and other African countries.
Speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja on Tuesday, the Scribe lamented that it was the fourth time international finance organisations would capitalize on corrupt tendencies of Nigeria government officials, who were always ready to compromise and write-off Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Company, despite its huge prospects of being Nigeria’s biggest revenue earnings and employer of labour.
“There was a lot of sabotage going on and I have four different report which were initiated by World Bank against Ajaokuta Steel Company”, Sanusi said.
He added: “another group, which has links with World Bank and IMF were invited from Britain by Bureau of Public Enterprises; they came and condemned Ajaokuta, and when we the stakeholders pointed out their mistakes, they left and never came back to Nigeria up till date”.
Dr. Sanusi also recalled that he faulted the power point presentation of another group, which were brought in by the former Minister of Finance, Dr Okonjo Iweala known as “Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facilities”.
“There is another one the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Iweala brought in called Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facilities and after two weeks tour of our steel Facilities, they assembled some officials of the National Planning Commission, Ministry of Finance and Solid minerals and other stakeholders; before you knew it, they reported that their head team had travelled back to Canada”, he added.
Sanusi who admitted that the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi was in touch with the Iron and Steel Association, commended President Buhari administration for his concerted effort at revamping the Ajaokuta Iron and Steel steel.
He advised Buhari to personally pay a visit to the steel industry for what he called a first hand information, noting that it would help his decision rather than waiting to be briefed.
“It is not enough that Mr President should be briefed by anybody. I advise him to pay a visit personally with some of his cabinet members so that when he is taking a decision, it is based on facts rather than waiting to be briefed”, Sanusi maintained.
