Why is there an assumption that Resource Control been demanded would better the Niger Delta? They have 13% and issues are still on ground. Even if you move to 50% or even 100% whats the likelihood of a better life for the ordinary man in the Niger Delta. Dont you think the in fitting would explode ? We Nigerians (note: - not only Niger Deltans) are the best when it comes to greed and the EGO ATTITUDE of wanting to have more than the next person. The argument that corrupt people are in every state of the Federation (which is true by the way) and that no one should point to the Niger Delta as been different doesnt sink well. If we try and focus on the issue at hand, which is lack of development in the Niger Delta, shouldnt we be asking for accountablility (be it from all State Governors) from the states getting the largest federal allocation ? Cant we ask how the current money is been spent to help understand how to allocate more ? Or are the Past & Current Governors been defended ? Bottom line FG - DEVELOP THE NIGER DELTA, (it's quite hard the longer militancy is allowed to prevail, because no one would be willing to go there to build infrastructure- Would you?) |
biina:Assuming this data can be verified as authentic. Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom have a large chunk of the revenue. I would like to see the respective government's narartion of how they spend their allocations. That would be a good way to start holding them accountable. Bayelsa is quite low. Guess it's becuase a lot of the oil production in that state has been shut in and probably the companies dont want to go there. |
A lot of true talk flying around this topic. Dont blame the Igbo man for wanting to work for his money. A lot of community slots for job opportunities go for sale for those wanting to work. (Welders, Drivers, Inspectors etc). Some of the boys claim the hard work exceeds the income so they would rather sell the slot. Leaders with 13% derivation are struggling to make differences in the lives of their people and they are not been held responsible. The Lagos State governor is making changes, but imagine if all past governors have done the same, the state would be far better than it is now. Let's hope he can do more. Imagine the opposition he got when dealing with Illegal Oshodi market, Apapa tanker drivers parking on roads, demolision of illegal structures, but the man has stood his ground. Love him or Hate him, he sticks to the rules and principles. Donlad Duke did a good job by putting Calabar on the map, even if Tinapa has issues now. Amaechi is trying to correct the wrong mindset that has dragged development backward. He has his flaws (we all do) but I like the man for been frank when he speaks. Kudos to all the Governors trying to do their job (which is what we ask of them), Not celebration of their BIG WEALTH A mindset change needs to occur - A lazy man might eat now but in the long run he is worse off. The most shocking is why people from an area would kidnap and chase contracors paid to build infrastructure in their communities. - can this occur anywhere outside the Niger Delta? It's a terrible issue that can make one weep. E.g. Julius Berger ran from the region after they couldnt cope. To be fair Setraco, RCC etc are still managing to do thier jobs. I salute them for that. But be frank, as an investor would you put your money in the Niger Delta? The people of the region need to fight for their identity now, before it is forever dented by these militancy issues. The Oil/Gas wont last forever, the education and infrastructure should be the desires for the region. The people of the Niger Delta deserve more, the era of militancy wont fast track this but instead draw them backwards. They need to check this lawlessness now !! |
Knight1:@Knight1- Militants pay some salaries in terms of - Expensive Residencies, Night Clubs, Flashy Cars Shop, Plenty Hotels dammytosh:@dammytosh - fantastic post attacking the root cause of the issue on ground - a lot of times we shy away from root cause analysis but rely instead on sentiments. Someone should please explain how the killing of these soldiers was suppose to contribute to Niger Delta development? As a people, we like tolerating wrong actions once they align with our desires. It is however UNACCEPTABLE to subject innocent people to untold hardship just because of their place of residence. That is rather unfair. All sides should please have respect for civilian life. They can however continue to fight on. We are behind them (apparently on different sides) but at least both sides have supporters. |
Facts ===== The Government has not provided for the Niger Delta as due. Militancy has highlighted that this needs to be addressed. Some progress has been made in addressing these issues. Questions ========= How have the Niger Delta Leaders, Governors & Legislators contributed to the solution to the problems ? How does MEND's current tactics solve the problem ? How does the FG's response solve the problem? Would the Niger Delta develop in an atmosphere of violence? Different people in the Niger Delta have different targets in the struggle? Where in the world has violence solved a problem? Vietnam? Dafur? Liberia? Sri-Lanka? Pakistan? |
Lives were lost, Lives have been changed forever, and also Vietnamiese people suffered tremendously. War doesnt pay especially for those residing where it is fought. In those days, wars were fought with some respect for the enemy and the people, but today it's barbaric. I really fear for the people of the Delta, if the Nigerian Armed Forces (Army & Naval) decide to come down full force. I see a loose loose situation with a worse loss to the people of the Delta, because after the war and destruction of their homes, they would still have to resettle and rebuild again. Not Good at all. This our times are really worrying. Man's hatred for each other and the way we kill ourselves. Is the day near ? |
As Nigerians, no matter which part of the country you are from. You have to accept that the way militancy prevails in the Niger Delta should not be acceptable for any civilised country. Free for all kidnapping, bombing and harrassment in the name of fighting for the people of the Niger Delta is quite sad, and unfortunately the people stand to loose more. I believe the military should take care of this situation once and for all Very good that the global economic systems have removed our supplies from the world market equation hence we do not affect oil prices anymore. Cant we understand that the more we fight amongst ourselves, the more we will suffer? Issues with deregulation are arising because we cannot build refineries. Who in his normal senses would build a refinery in the Niger Delta under the previaling conditions? Eventually we would start running out of oil and gas in most places, then we will see the big price we have paid as a nation by failing to deal with our problems. I think the ordinary people living peacefully in their villages should stand up, as they tend to loose more. They know these militants. I blame the Past and Present Governments for not doing enough for the people of the Niger Delta. I also blame the people of the Delta for not controlling and channeling their struggle. Unfortunately everyone from that region is now stigmatised as been a militant. I have a lot of friends and colleagues from the Delta and surely they are not what they are been tagged as. Quite Sad. How would the Niger Delta be developed if companies cannot provide infrastructure and services without risk to life? Unfortunately children unborn would suffer the hardest consequence of where we find ourselves now, when they struggle to rewrite the image of their areas, probably then there would be no/less oil and gas to kill over. The only satisfaction is that eventually we will all face GOD for our actions. May the souls of all those who have lost their lives in this so called struggle rest in perfect peace. |
Please how much does a survey cost per plot in Lekki axis? Thanks |
Thanks, Great feedback from the architects. The building is planned for Lekki (this should help guide the rules of development - space, building height, setback etc) Would be getting in touch directly as myself and a couple of friends are really into this concept/layout as a means of having a home and also a small part to rent out, the idea being that massive mansions have their drawbacks, and as such we are willing to optimise space and still earn some rentage. Thanks Guys. |
Thanks desse. Guess, an option would be to use 2 plots, making a total of 120 ft x 120 ft, maybe this should take 3 or 4 terrace flats with sufficient parking space. Terrace apartments seem to becoming more desired than flats, hence the preference. Obviously from your advice the only workable option for one plot is probably 2 nos semi-detached duplex. Thanks a lot for the advice. |
Architects and Builders. Please how many terrace flats can fit into a standard plot of 60 ft x 120 ft? |
Please how did you confirm that 80k was removed from your account by your friend? What does your account statement read? Is it a Savings or Current acct? |
Charges are a part of the bank's income. One should always try to confirm charges for any services before using them. This is where competition and options come into play. Switching banks is always an option, Charges and Service Based assessments should start coming into play for choosing the best banks, |
We should try to avoid bais in some of our statements. If a rule is in place, let everybody follow it for the good of everybody. The norm in our society where laws are for a few is not the best. If petty traders illegal structures can be demolished for been in violation, then big offices should also be demolished for been in violation. Only when we treat issues on a level playing gorund can we progress, But as a people can we really be "JUST and FAIR" ?? |
They seem to have moved the SS3N to their full package. Good for them, now only the family package makes sense !!! And maybe next season, only hiTV (even with their challenges) would make sense !!! |
@hbrednic I heard this 2 year rule from a friend in Lagos. I cant categorically confirm the authenticity, but I advise you make more enquiries to confirm the true information. |
Some are yet to see the lookahead in the land/property market. This is not the time to commit huge sums to property without a good plan. A lot of those estates are stuck with no funds, while people have committed some even with mortgages at 25% +/- interest Many rules are coming up now, e.g. Lagos - development within 2 years of C-of-O issuance. I believe more rules might come soon. They would be welcome if they help the average person own a roof over his/her head. The very rich have turned on this sector to try to extort people more. The Govt should introduce laws to check them. |
Cars are already getting more expensive. Those planning a car change might have to do a rethink. If your old car aint broken, dont fix it, Downturn is a time to limit spending on luxury items, |
Until we can judge people by their actions and not by tribe or religion, we would continue to lack the progress we seek. |
This only shows the total breakdown we have in the region, where a Kings Wife is kidnapped with the threat of raping her. |
I really think the oil comapnies & government should leave and allow us kill our selves well well. Ours will be the first case where violence would solve a problem. We would be a role model for future violence driven struggles. Kudos. |
Oil is our curse. As some of the oil companies are preapring to leave Nigeria (I really hope they do !!!). Let them decommision all the oil and gas facilities, shut in & abandon all the oil wells. We would now be left alone to solve our problems. We need to suffer to see the light !!! Let everybody sit down, think and discuss. From Politician to Community Youth, - How can we have light if you destroy the gas plants? - How can we stop flaring if you destroy the facilites meant to utilise the gas? You would be right to blame Government for a lot of things, but after a while you start to ask, what next? But to be honest, I really dont see a light at the end of the tunnel for Nigeria, we just dont solve problems, |
If the purchase is to hold and sell for a higher price, you might have to plan the time frame well, word is that a lot of properties are staying "FOR SALE" longer because people are slowing down on spending generally, Plan well, |
The only conclusion is that one party is lying and one party is telling the truth. Until we can ascertain which party is which, any statements would be subjective, |
Most Joint Ventures are 55% owned by NNPC,the rest shared amongst 2 to 3 companies, it's the government that has failed more in its responsibilities. Why are NNPC staff not been kidnapped? Why are families of past looters not targeted for this unjust harrassment in the Niger Delta. It's always the multinationals we blame for all, they have been helped by our lack of a unified plan for our communties. If we had good system of government, rules would exhisit and they would be followed. When will we hold our leaders responsible for their period in office, ![]() (Note: I dont work for a multinational and I am not from the Niger Delta) - Just my opinion, |
Is there a website? Flyer? Layout & location proximity to known places ? |
What is the size of the plot at River Valley ? |
Whatever Awolowo is termed as is irrelevant. He did his part for the Nation at that point in time. Some Western governors and politicians have tried to align with some of his morals. Good for them, their choice, I believe, Why don't we have Governors from the East speaking & acting the talk just as ZIK was a great man? Our tribalism views on everything is what draws us back, It's irrelevant where a man comes from, but what he can do for the people irrespective of their tribe of origin. When will we learn, that a tribe alone cannot develop it's own place, Awolowo and ZIK are Great men in history, whatever you say about them today cant change that, our Governors should thrive to inscribe their names in history, |
Be advised Mortgage rate is SLAVE TRADE in Nigeria (at 21 to 25%), With the global slowdown, some of the banks are already considering raising their rates (as a clause in the offer allows this based on market forces). For me, best option is to save and build as you go, the risk of increase in building materials does exist but compare it with the risk of banks sucking you dry !!! |
Don't mind these property speculators (calling such millions cheap) !!! The CREDIT CRUNCH is catching up with them soon, it was said about the stock market, people said NO, it cant happen, the gist is that property slow down is next, keep watching. Lets see what those on 20% to 25% Interest Mortgage rates would do then, Banks never see anything yet, Credit Crunch is still in full force, |
Crude = $43.09/bbl @ 23-01-09. Gradually we are seeing the crisis ahead of us. The Multinationals have gradually started dropping their staff, they have reduced drilling oil wells, concentrating more on gas. Eventually this non-renewable resources would start drying up. The foreign consumers are trying hard to reduce their consumption. Soon this oil we fight and kill ourselves over wouldn't be worth as much. When we needed as a nation to develop infrastructure and services, we didn't, now we would pay the price the hard way, Only those capable of creating alternative income would progress long term, |

, i am afraid that is normal any where there is war against terrorism. But our military men should be taught to maintain the rules of engagement strictly. May All lost innocent soul rest in perfect peace.
