TV/Movies / WOW!!! Ubelieveable, see TV Stations You Never Knew Existed In Nigeria by ahmed486: 1:08pm On Oct 04, 2016

So we have been doing this snap poll. Asking people, even those who work in the media: how many stations does Nigeria have?

We usually hear just about seven: AIT, NTA, Channels TV, Galaxy, TVC, Ebony Life TV, Africa Magic.

First and foremost we mean stations owned by Nigerians, for Nigerians, but we’ll forgive people slipping Africa Magic in. It’s also the power of branding that EbonyLife TV which is a cable channel, is the only Nigerian channel to be mentioned when we have many.

We always remind people: What about Hip TV and Soundcity? And then they say ‘Oh yes, we knew those. We forgot.” Every time.

So we thought it would be fun to let you know how many TV channels actually exist in Nigeria – across DTT (Digital Terrestrial TV) and DTH (Direct to Home), which is what we all call Cable.

And the answer is: well over 50.

We’ll just give you a hint – across terrestrial TV and then 3 of the major cable TV networks below.

Terrestrial Lagos:

ONTV, Galaxy, AIT, TVC, MITV, Silverbird TV, NTA 2 Channel 5, Superscreen, LTV Channel 8, Channels TV, NTA 10.

Terrestrial everywhere else:

DBS, RSTV, AKBC, ITV, BCA, ABS, OSBC, BRTV, CTV, BATV.

(And all of these are minus the same brand names spread across the country – because Galaxy Akure is a different enterprise from Galaxy Lagos for instance.)

DSTV:

EbonyLife TV, Hip TV, Soundcity, Spice TV, TVC News and TVC Entertainment (both are different), Arise TV (though Uncle Nduka will be very upset, because it’s an “international channel”), TRACE Naija (just because they put Naija in the name), Kingdom Africa (a Nigerian gospel music channel), Dove TV, Emmanuel TV.

We would add Vox Africa, because there is some Nigeria in there. But it’s really a UK-based channel for Diaspora Nigerians that came home at some point.

Startimes:

WAP TV, R2TV, Nigezie, Orisun, One Music, iROKO Play, iROKO World, Star Music, Star Yoruba.

GoTV:

Rave TV, Cool TV (we are not sure if it’s permanently suspended because it’s been gone for about three months now), Wazobia TV, Televista, Trybes TV.

And we are already tired of listing.

But you get the picture, yes?

You think you really know Nigeria – until you realize you don’t.

So many stories we have not even begun to tell.

Politics / FG Moves To Reopen N100bn Fraud Case Against Odili by ahmed486: 12:48pm On Oct 04, 2016

The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has faulted Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court for granting a perpetual injunction to a former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Peter Odili, which has scuttled the ex-governor’s prosecution.

ADVERTISING

inRead invented by Teads

Buba’s order has prevented the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and any other government anti-corruption agency from prosecuting or arresting Odili, who was accused of allegedly embezzling about N100bn of Rivers State money during his eight-year tenure as governor.

Sagay further stated that the case could be reopened, adding that measures were being put in place to ensure that such an order was never granted again.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria stated, “What is happening now is unconstitutional; that judgment was unconstitutional. The judge who gave that perpetual injunction did what was unconstitutional.

“In effect, he was saying that the police should not do their work. He was removing the prosecutorial powers of the police and the prosecution in Nigeria.

“It is illegal and Supreme Court judgments have said so. So, the whole thing we should do now is to restore legality so that if you are charged, you should be able to come to court and defend yourself instead of asking that you should not be investigated.

“That (Odili’s injunction) is totally illegal and unconstitutional and not acceptable.”

Responding to reports that the long delay in the case might have weakened the resolve of security agencies as well as compromised evidence, Sagay urged law enforcement agencies not to give up.

He added, “The important thing is not to give up because if you give up, the whole system will collapse.

“Personally, I have said any judge that gives an order of perpetual injunction against investigation, interrogation and arrest, should be regarded as having committed a serious act of wrongdoing, which should merit disciplinary action by the NJC. That is my proposal and I am going to push it that it should be regarded as an action that should attract discipline.

“I can assure you that under the new system that we are all running, there is no case that will be allowed to remain permanently under injunction. They will have to go through the process and be declared guilty or not guilty; in case of suspended cases, where a person is neither guilty nor innocent will no longer be allowed to exist.

“This case can be reopened, definitely.”

On December 12, 2006, the EFCC had issued an interim investigative report and prepared a draft of 223 charges against Odili, accusing him of embezzling N100bn during his tenure.

In a counter-move, the then Attorney General of the state, and later Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Odein Ajumogobia (SAN), on February 23, 2007, sued the EFCC, the then Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, and other defendants in a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.

In the suit, Buba of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt granted Odili’s prayer to bar the EFCC from investigating, prosecuting or ever harassing him and officials of his administration.

It was learnt that the EFCC had filed an appeal at the appellate court since 2008 but the case had not been assigned to anybody.

A source at the EFCC stated, “We went to see two Presidents of the Court of Appeal but they never showed interest in the case. It has been eight years that we have been trying to vacate that order to no avail.

“This kind of thing demoralises detectives because evidence may have been compromised, victims or witnesses would have moved on while some of the investigators may have been transferred or retired.”

An EFCC prosecutor, Johnson Ojogbene, told reporters recently that the EFCC had appealed the judgment, adding that Odili’s case was presently hanging at the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division.

He stated that there was the need for proper synergy between the judiciary and the anti-graft agencies in the anti-corruption fight as there was noting the EFCC or anyone could do to overturn the judgment of any court except to appeal.

Ojogbene noted that when the judiciary failed to cooperate, cases could be stalled for ages.

Politics / “hear The Latest Prophecy Of Father Mbaka” by ahmed486: 8:28pm On Sep 09, 2016

Presidential media aide Femi Adesina in his fresh piece published through his official Facebook page appeals to Nigerians no to lose hope in the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

Buhari’s aide reveals that he took a pay cut to join the incumbent administration. Mr. Adesina also advised Nigerians to hear the latest prophecy of fiery preacher Father Ejike Mbaka.
Here comes the preacher. What does he want to tell us? Doesn’t he know that we are hungry, and the din of hunger makes one deaf to reason? The rumble in our tummies, as the worms compete for the little food left there, will surely be louder than what anybody can say now. True? Not exactly. Come, let us reason together.

Father Ejike Mbaka, that fearless priest of the Catholic church, gave an illustration recently, which I believe was not revealed to him by flesh and blood. There is hunger in the land, with people severely famished. And there is ululation, loud enough to deafen the deaf all over again, and wake the dead from his eternal sleep. The wailers are wailing so loud, as if Bob Marley had resurrected with his band, the Wailing Wailers. But hear Fr. Mbaka: somebody came, looted your kitchen, carried away all the food. He did not even leave you crumbs to console yourself with. And then comes another person, trying to replenish your pantry, trying to restock your kitchen. And then you begin to shout; we are hungry o, we are hungry o, to the point of distracting and discouraging the new man. Who should you rather wail and rage against? The man that looted your kitchen, of course.

That is the exact similitude of the position of Nigeria. There is hunger, lack, and deprivation in the land. But is it a death knell? Not when the kitchen is being restocked, and we will soon feed till we want no more.

But what if we are dead before our kitchen gets replenished? What if we had been knackered by hunger, before the days of plenty come? That is the purpose of this piece. “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, established, strengthen, settle you.” (1 Peter 5:10).

Every religion must surely preach the virtue of godly patience

Christianity is the religion I am most familiar with. But every religion must surely preach the virtue of godly patience. “After ye have suffered a while…” Let’s look at it closely. You give a single thing, you get four in return. What a huge return on investment. You put in suffering (patience, if you like), and you get this cocktail of blessings : perfect, established, strengthened, settled. Buy one, get four free.

Hear who is preaching patience, from the cosy confines of the presidential villa. He has moved up, and from obscene comfort, he can preach. That was the insinuation my own brother, Dele Momodu, made in his Saturday column in Thisday a couple of weeks ago. He did not mention my name, but I knew he was talking of me. And I laughed. Obscene comfort, in a Muhammadu Buhari administration? Funny. Well, I do not know about those who can hustle, and gain advantage from holding public office. But I can speak for myself. The day God was distributing the ability to hustle, I probably was not at home, so I have not been given that ability. And the Good Book says no man does anything, except it is given to him from above. The sum total? I am on a national assignment that has cut my legitimate annual income by one third, so when there is hunger in the land, I go hungry too. Well, almost. When people talk of lack of money, I penny-pinch, too. Well, almost. Let nobody think those in government are insulated from what is happening in the country. At least, those who have truly come to serve. But those precious promises hold true any day. “In the days of famine, my people shall be satisfied.” “The young lion may lack, and suffer hunger, but those that trust in the Lord shall not suffer any good thing.” (Ride on, preacher!).

In Benin on Monday, President Buhari spoke at campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He declared: “I assure you that we are going to get out of our economic problems. We are almost out of our security problem and we are going to make Nigeria great again. We are going to be very proud of our country once again.” I believe it. Implicitly. If I don’t, I am then simply wasting time in government, when I could fare a lot better outside it. But the Daura man needs people to believe in him. Count me in the number. I had always been, and will always be a believer in integrity, probity and accountability. It is good for our country.

The economy has fallen into recession, and after recession comes depression. Really? Why are some people too eager to believe negative projections, while shunning the positive? Yes, when you have negative economic growth for two consecutive quarters, there is business contraction, and the economy falls into recession. Depression is even worse. But recession is not Armageddon. It is not a death sentence. Leading countries of the world had fallen into economic recession at one time or the other, and they came out of it, to become strong and sturdy again. Why not Nigeria? The projection is that by the end of the fourth quarter, we would be on our way out of recession. I believe it. I do not spend my days expecting a thunderstorm, and render myself unable to enjoy the rain. “After ye have suffered a while…” Better days will come again, and under this Buhari administration. Yes, we shall soon be proud of our country again.

Do we forget so easily? No, we shouldn’t. Buhari and his party rode to power last year on the wings of three main promises, among others: security, anti-corruption, and economic restoration. The first promise is being roundly and soundly fulfilled. You can’t administer a country you have not secured, the President keeps saying. And so, from Sambisa to Sango, in Ogun State, from the creeks of Ikorodu to those of Niger Delta, even the crocodiles are smiling, knowing that the country is being secured. From Ogbunike, to Okigwe, and to Okporoza, the security agencies are proving their mettle. In the North East, internally displaced people are returning home. Ask people from Konduga, in Borno State. Roads that had been closed for five years are reopening. Emirs, who had fled their palaces for many years, have returned. “After ye have suffered for a while…”

Corruption is being given a bloody nose!

You do the crime, you serve the term. A Daniel has come to judgment. In Nigeria, not only are officials corrupt, but corruption has become official, said Shehu Musa, a former secretary to the Federal Government. Well, not anymore. Do the crime, serve the term, is the new singsong. Stealing has now become corruption, and the battle has just started.

The economy is the third promise. But just as the promise is being kept on the security and anti-corruption fronts, the economy will also be turned right side up. After ye have suffered a while…

It is inevitable that we pass through this rough patch in which we currently find ourselves. Up to the end of 2014, we made an average of three billion dollars monthly from oil. We whacked everything, officially and unofficially, nothing put aside for the rainy day. It was a bazaar. Now the rain is falling, and it is beating us almost mercilessly. Monthly income from oil has dropped to as low as five hundred million dollars. From billions to millions. We are running soaked. But after rain comes the shine. Nigeria not only has a thrifty and prudent leadership, but also one that will not steal our money. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, so goes the saying. Some people are so rapacious that if you keep a boiled egg in their care, and knowing that a bite on the egg would be quite visible, they then lick it, so that the egg never goes scot-free. But the good news for us is that a man who did not bite our egg in his 30s, would not lick it in his 70s. Our treasury is safe, and we will beat recession. Better days are surely coming, “after ye have suffered a while…” We trusted Buhari and gave him our votes in 2015. Let us keep the trust, the confidence, and ride the storm. In quietness and confidence shall be our strength, not in wailing and throwing of tantrums.

In private, and in public, President Buhari has acknowledged the tough times in the land. But he is not throwing up his hands in helplessness. Problems are meant to be solved, and the government is doing just that. It’s a time of national emergency that calls for cooperation, goodwill, best wishes, encouragement, even prayers. But some people rejoice, thinking the government would fail. Why do the heathens rage, and the people imagine vain things? Wasn’t the siege on Samaria so terrible that they began to boil their children to eat? And then came Prophet Elisha, who told them, “Tomorrow about this time, shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel.” Did it happen? It did. But the scoffers, the unbelieving, did not partake of it. Things will turn in Nigeria, and it would be for our good.(I can see everything turning around, turning around, turning around for our good).

If you faint in the days of adversity, your strength is small. Good Nigerians will not faint, rather, they will trust, pray and encourage the man restocking their kitchens. As sure as day follows the night, better things will come, and will not delay. The troubles of the present are not worthy to be compared to the glory that will be revealed, “after we have suffered for a while…”

Politics / BREAKING: Panic In Edo As APC, PDP Supporters Clash by ahmed486: 8:10pm On Sep 09, 2016

The violence erupted in Edo state ahead of the governorship election scheduled for September 10 but later shifted for two weeks. Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were supposed to have taken over the streets in Okugbe, Okpella, Estako East local government area, clashing with supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The source said that the security at the divisional police post in Okpella have been stunned by the youths who may have possibly gone out of control, destroying cars and other property belonging to supporters of APC.

According to the source, the youth came out in their numbers to forcefully break out some suspected PDP hoodlums arrested by the police from the cell. The crisis may be connected to the Thursday’s shift of Edo state governorship poll by the main electoral body. The postponement came as security services and Nigeria Police Force have on September 7, Wednesday, advised the INEC to shift the governorship election, quoiting security concerns as the reason for the request.

Politics / No Grazing Reserves, Ranches In Anambra – Governor Obiano by ahmed486: 7:02pm On Aug 27, 2016

The Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano, has said the state had no plans for grazing reserves and ranches.

The governor stated this at the Council Chambers of Government House, Awka, in a press conference to mark the 25th anniversary of the creation of the state.

Obiano said the state had the smallest land mass in the country and therefore would not want to embark on such land-consuming projects as grazing reserves and ranches.

He said even the state’s small land mass had been eaten up by erosion.

He said the state was in a discussion with an international partner to commence the animal husbandry indigenous to the area.
On herdsmen attack of communities in the southeast, Obiano said, “on this issue, I am like the guy who saw tomorrow.

“Early in my administration, I constituted a committee known as cattle menace committee, which is headed by the commissioner of police, with five traditional rulers and leaders of the Fulani community in the state.

“We agreed in the committee that if the cattle belonging to the Fulani people destroy our crops, they will pay us; and if our people kill their cattle, we will pay them.”

He said the Fulani herdsmen had defaulted 11 times, and paid compensation to the natives, while the communities had defaulted five times, and paid accordingly for five cows allegedly killed by them.

He said it was agreed that herdsmen would not be allowed to come into the state wielding AK47 riffles and other dangerous weapons.
He noted that the arrangement had guided the parties in their actions and conducts.

Politics / Revealed: See The Faces Of The Young Men Who Stoned Governor Bello In Kogi (phot by ahmed486: 6:41pm On Aug 27, 2016

The police in Kogi state say the have arrested the men who reportedly stoned the governor, Yahaya Bello on Friday, August 26, shortly after the Jumat prayer in Lokoja, the state capital.

The media had been awash with the incident which witnesses claimed occurred at the Lokoja Central Mosque in the old market area of the capital.
One source said that the discontented people also carried few placards while chanting anti-government slogans as the governor was reportedly pelted with rotten fruit and vegetables.

“The situation in this state is even worse than what the residents are doing. The situation is pathetic,” the source said.

And according to a picture obtained by Linda Ikeji, the men have been arrested by the police, although there is no official statement by the security operatives of revelations by the hoodlums.

After the incident, Governor Bello through his spokesperson, Kingsley Fanwo, said: “We are not unaware of scheming by change resistors to sponsor attacks against government officials. Sponsoring attacks against the governor will not stop our march to restore sanity to the polity.

“The administration of Governor Yahaya Bello will soon publish the names of corrupt citizens of the state who are behind the ghost workers syndrome.”

According to the governor, the real reason of the attack was the discontent of those who are against his radical reforms in the state’s civil service. He is convinced that thugs were hired by his political enemies who are pursuing personal interests.

Politics / How EFCC Operative Extorted $150k From Military Officers Involved In Arms Fraud by ahmed486: 12:06pm On Jan 30, 2016
Abdulrahman Mohammed Biu, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, who’s a deputy detective superintendent, has been arrested for extorting $150,000 from military officers involved in the ongoing investigation into the diversion of arms purchase funds.

According to Wilson Uwujaren, the Head, Media & Publicity for the EFCC, “the officer was arrested on Monday January 25, 2016 following intelligence report alleging that he extorted a whopping sum of $150,000 from some military officers on the pretext that he would help give them a soft landing in the ongoing investigation into the arms deal scandal.”

“Upon his arrest, a search was executed on his residence in Abuja where the following items were recovered: $20,000 cash, N500, 000 cash, two police uniforms bearing his name with the ranks of Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, Police warrant card No: 27/2014 with the rank of DSP allegedly obtained from Kano Constabulary office, documents relating to military arms investigation and account information of several senior military officers.”

“A search of his car parked in the premises yielded the following items: unbranded pistol with a magazine and ten live ammunition. His modus operandi includes dropping the names of ranking officers of the Commission, claiming he was acting on their behalf. A paper containing seven of such names was recovered in his house.

“The suspect has made useful statement, while investigation continues”, Uwujaren added.

Politics / Witness: I Got N77m Campaign Job From Metuh by ahmed486: 4:15pm On Jan 29, 2016
Spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh gave a N77 million media campaign job to a Lagos-based public relations firm, it was learnt yesterday.

Metuh last night left the Kuje Prisons for home after meeting the bail conditions.

Managing Director of the firm – CMC Connect – Yomi Badejo-Okusanya and a bureau de change operator, Kabiru Ibrahim, testified yesterday in Metuh’s trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Badejo-Okusanya, the fifth prosecution witness, gave evidence how he was recruited by Metuh to develop and execute campaigns for ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Metuh is on trial for allegedly using the N400 million he purportedly received from the Office NSA in November 2014 to fund the party’s presidential campaign for the 2015 general election.

He was arraigned, with his company, Destra Investment Limited, on January 15, on a seven-count.

Metuh was accused of fraudulently receiving N400 million from the NSA Office in November, 2014, and laundering $2 million through a phoney investment transaction.

Badejo-Okusanya told the court that his firm was engaged to provide a media campaign and “image management” job for the PDP and Jonathan.

The witness said he was paid N77.5 million through Metuh’s firm, Destra Investments Limited, in December 2014 and that he started executing the job towards the end of the month.

He said he was paid before he attended a meeting with Jonathan, ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Senate President David Mark and top government functionaries of the PDP-led government, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Badejo-Okusanya, who was led in evidence by prosecution lawyer Sylvanus Tahir said after the meeting with Jonathan and other top officials, Metuh called him the next day to inform him Jonathan was impressed with his presentation.

He said his relationship with the PDP started under ex-Chairman, Okwesilieze Nwodo.

“My company, CMC Connect, had done some work for the PDP under Dr. Nwodo, who was repositioning the PDP as a vehicle for national transformation. A substantial part of that work required communication which is what we deal in.

“The work, which started in 2010, stopped abruptly when Dr. Nwodo resigned as chairman.

“We had some outstanding not paid then, so when Metuh became spokesman for the party, we met with him.

He said he liked the work we did then, but that unfortunately, the party had no money to pay us to continue.

Metuh promised that he would compensate us and that whenever opportunity arose he would call us. That should be in 2012.

“In November, 2014, he called, asking me where I was. He said I should come to Abuja for a meeting and I obliged. On arrival at Abuja, I went to his house and he drove me to the Presidential Villa where we met a meeting in progress. The meeting was presided over by former President Jonathan, his Vice President, Chairman of the party, Muazu, Senate President David Mark, the presidential communication team, comprising Doyin Okupe, Reuben Abati, Prof. Alkali and others. The meeting was on how to go about the last election.

“In the course of the meeting, Metuh introduced me as a communication consultant and that I had worked for the party before. He asked me to speak.

“I proceeded to speak very frankly, to Mr. President. Without going into details, I said I felt I should point out to him the critical things he had to do to get the election right.

“The President asked me a couple of questions and I remember telling him that there was a disconnect between his government and the people. He seemed to take everything in good faith and asked us (including Chief Metuh) to go.

“The next evening, Chief Metuh called me. He said it seemed we have made an impression on the President, that he had asked him to coordinate the initial campaign plan for the presidential and general election for PDP.

“So we set about with the plan and I was meeting him (Metuh) severally on the ideas we had about how we can position the party in the minds of Nigerians.

“Throughout November, 2014, we were unable to do anything meaningful because, according to Chief Metuh, funds were unavailable to prosecute the ideas we had.

“I remember him telling me severally that contrary to what most people felt the party wasn’t awash with money and he shared with me some of the constraints he had in his work,” the witness said.

Badejo-Okusanya said his firm commenced execution of the project in December after it received N77.5 million in two tranches with N7.5 million transferred to CMC Connect’s account on December 1, 2014 and the balance of N70 million on December 15, 2014.

The witness added: “The first part of the work was to get Nigerians to appreciate the roles of the military in the fight against Boko Haram, in general, insurgency.

“This was leading up to the Armed Forces Remembrance Day and we had insertions in newspapers, such as This Day, The Guardian, Punch, Vanguard, Daily Trust, Leadership and Sun.

“Thereafter, this was leading up to the Christmas season, so we had a campaign on TV stations wishing Nigerians Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We had it on Channels, AIT, Silverbird and NTA.

“We had placements on those stations. We did some of them directly and some we engaged the services of media brokers.

“The reason for this was that, at that time, there was a lot of demand for airtime from various political parties.

“So, to get the prime time, we needed to go through the media muscle to secure the spots we wanted – the actual time.

“We did that during the Christmas and New Year season. We also wrote materials, which we titled: ‘FACTS Speak’. The essence of this was to draw attention to some achievements of the PDP.

“We also did a series of other materials which ran into January, 2015. We had daily media trail to PDP, which was one of the services that will tell them whatever appeared in the media, concerning the party.”

The court admitted documents containing evidence of publication of the materials in the newspapers, and certificates of broadcast in the electronic media, invoices and cheque vouchers relating to the media jobs.

The witness, under cross-examination by Metuh’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), confirmed that he was given the job due to his proficiency in “image positioning management” and his relationship with the PDP.

When asked to confirm that Metuh acted for Jonathan when he (Metuh) told him (witness) that the President was impressed with his presentation, Okusanya-Badejo said: “That was what he told me”.

The witness said there was nothing unusual about the job he did for the PDP.

The sixth prosecution witness, Ibrahim, gave evidence how he was engaged by an employee of a financial service firm, Arms and Resource Management Limited, Nneka Ararume, to convert $1 million, which the prosecution alleged was provided in cash by Metuh, to naira.

Justice Okon Abang fixed February 4 for the continuation of trial.

Politics / Halliburton Scandal: Buhari May Go After IBB, Abdulsalami, Jubril Aminu by ahmed486: 9:12pm On Jan 26, 2016
The Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami has disclosed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government may soon initiate probe into the Siemens and Halliburton bribery scandals.

The scandal involves a number of prominent Nigerians, including former military Heads of State, Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Senator Jubril Aminu, who were accused of collecting bribes to award multi-million dollar contracts to the two foreign companies.

Speaking with Vanguard in Abuja, Malami revealed, that the current government had not closed any criminal case being investigated in the country.
He also refuted claims that Buhari was afraid of taking up the Halliburton and Siemens cases because the key suspects were top military leaders.

Malami stated that the President was not afraid to do what is right in the interest of Nigerians.

The AGF while noting that the President had zero tolerance for corruption, stressed that the current administration would not close any corruption case.

According to Malami, the government would observe the rule of law in its pursuit of corruption cases in the country.
“No extraneous influence can influence our actions as we move to fight corruption in all its ramifications. To be noted also is the clear fact that no criminal case can be closed once the facts are handy regardless of who is involved,” Malami said.

A Bursary staff of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Malam Uba Musa, were yesterday killed alongside his wife and two children, in a fire disaster.

A witness said the four family members were burnt by the fire, which broke out in their house at the ABU Site II staff quarters, along the Zaria-Sokoto Road.

A friend to late Musa, Umar Bala, who is also a staff of the university, told Daily Trust that they received reports that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
“We saw fire trucks and men moving out of the university main campus in Samaru around 7am. At first, we did not know where they were going, but we later found out that they were going to Uba Musa’s house. This incident is very shocking, as I saw the wife and the children on Friday. I also met Uba on Friday and he was full of life. We pray Allah to grant them eternal rest,” Bala said.

The four family members were buried at Shika cemetery in Zaria.

The Bursar of ABU, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman was among the management staff sighted at the funeral prayers, as the VC, Professor Ibrahim Garba, was out of town.

Politics / Army To Establish True Identity Of Suspected Boko Haram Leader by ahmed486: 4:52pm On Jan 24, 2016
The Nigerian Army said on Saturday that it had put in place machinery to establish the true identity of a suspected leader of the Boko Haram sect, Jarasu Shirawho was apprehended last week in Borno.

Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Deputy Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.

Irabor said that ascertaining the true identity of the suspect was to avoid past mistakes where individuals were arrested based on mistaken identities.

“We are in custody of a good number of suspected terrorists that were apprehended as a result of our routine operations. One of those suspects is believed to be on the list of our 100 most wanted terrorists’ leaders,” he said.

Irabor, however, said that the army must ascertain the true identity of the suspect before final confirmation to the media.

“There are checks that must be done before final confirmation, facial attributes tended to show that he is the one. But then, there are other things we need to do to ensure that is he who we said he is.

“Although the facial attributes confirmed he is the one, it is not just by looks alone. We have had cases where we had mistaken identity, only to come up to say we are sorry, that is what we are trying to avoid this time,” Irabor explained.

Shira is believed to be the sect leader around Damboa-Chibok- Askira axis of Borno before he was apprehended. He is believed to be one of the masterminds of the Chibok Girls abduction on April 14, 2014.

Politics / Enugu State Governor Speaks On Impeachment Process by ahmed486: 10:00pm On May 05, 2015
Governor, Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has denied forging any budget document or tried borrowing any money barely three weeks to the end of his tenure. The governor said the house resulted to the antics after he refused to succumb to their monetary appeals after they had approved the loan.

15 Lawmakers in Enugu State House of Assembly, had on Monday accused the governor of forging of the 2012 supplementary budget and financial misconduct. The governor also says that, though, he is yet to receive any impeachment notice, the moves by the Lawmakers against him will not prevail as the constitution requires a simple two third majority, which the house, as presently constituted, would find impossible to realise.

Romance / 7 Signs Your Girlfriend Isn’t Meant To Be Your Future Wife by ahmed486: 4:12pm On May 05, 2015
1. She’s dependent - On you for everything. You need an independent woman not a dependent person. It is a wife you want not a pet.

2. Her dressing - believe it or not, a wife needs to apply a bit of modesty in her dressing when she gets married.

3. She’s rude - No man wants a woman who cannot respect him. Not as a girlfriend, not as a wife.

4. She’s emotionally unstable - She is sweet today and she goes from that to extremely rude and obnoxious.

5. She lies - lying partners are the worst ever.

6. You have absolutely nothing in common - if you both can’t seem to find a common ground, then think twice.

7. She mismanages everything - Does she urge you to spend money on the most expensive cars rather than invest in reasonable things? If yes, run!

SUMMARIZED BY THESUMMARY
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has sacked Mr. Tunde Alokan, a Permanent Secretary in charge of the Office of the Establishment. A source said, Alokan was shown the way out of his job because the former governor of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, attended the burial of Alokan’s late father in February.

But the governor, confirming the dismissal through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said Alokan's dismissal had nothing to do with Fayemi attending his late father's burial as the governor has the power to hire and fire. Another source in the Government House said, Alokan’s elder brother, Tokunbo, a Director on Grade Level 16 "is also on his way out of the civil service.” The source said, the two of them were to be dismissed the same day, that of the elder brother was however suspended.
