^^^^^^^^^ All I can say is; May Allah make it easy for those of us really striving to learn. And honestly, it feels quite overwhelming to me at times when I realise the magnitude of the things yet to be learnt. I guess with time and continued persistence, it gets better. |
lexiconkabir:Jazakallahu khairan Just coming across this. Need to go and find many examples to practice this with. |
k4kenny:Ma sha Allah Really happy to hear this. May Allah reward your efforts and increase you in knowledge. Yeah, I found a tutor in the town I'm serving in (some brothers recommended him to me and assured that he is very knowledgeable). In sha Allah, I intend to start once I go back next week to settle down. Yes, you're right on learning by one's self. Looking at where I started from, Alhamdulillah I've achieved quite much most of which was on my own. But still, I need to have someone correcting the little little errors I make that I can't notice. Wa feeki |

AbuHammaad:Alright |
Asalam alaykum k4kenny. Wanted to ask how the progress is going with your tajweed class. |
whirlwind7:Exactly the same thing I first thought of once I saw the pictures. Unnecessary risk |
mexzony:First of all, I'm in love with this thread. Big thumbs up to everyone. Quite sad that the frequency of contributions has greatly reduced recently. In my own case, I only know how to use Proteus Ares for PCB design. Yet to try out PCB wizard or PCB artist. Maybe it was quite tough at the start when I was learning it but once I got the hang of Ares, I started to enjoy using it. One sensitive area though is the aspect of choosing packages for your components in your design as you have to ensure it will be compatible with the components in your physical design. For example, I once had a project in which involved some relays. The package I chose for the relay in Ares had the NO pin at the left side while NC pin was at the right but the actual relay to be used had the pins arranged in the reverse order (needless to say I only got to find this out after already etching and drilling the board). That almost spoilt the whole work I was doing if not for some improvising I did to go round the problem. Looking forward to learning much more here. |
AbuHammaad:Alright brother Just let me know once it's sorted |
So I just stumbled upon this thread. I've taken a deep interest in 3D printing technology of recent, so now I'm trying to brush up my CAD skills. Have some substantial knowledge on 3D design in autocad but I'm yet to work with Solidworks (but would still love to delve into it though). Hopefully I can gain something here ![]() |

I've also had this same problem for years. Had to give up on milk during my 3rd year in school. Imagine taking cereal early in the morning as you're rushing for a lecture only to get to the lecture hall to start releasing weapons of mass destruction . And in my case, I don't feel any relief unless I go to defecate.I've tried many non-dairy alternatives some of which I will recommend. - Soymilk: Not the biggest fan of this but it's not too bad an option. You can try isomil (heads up, it's a baby formula). On few occasions, I still got stomach upset after using this. -Coconut milk: I find this quite a better option, and goes well with tea, oats, custard or pap. You can either buy in a supermarket or make yourself. Yes, you can make it yourself! Just get a piece of coconut, cut it into pieces and blend it. Then get a sieve and the water you extract out is your coconut milk. The disadvantage coconut milk has though is that it can't last too long. Maybe a maximum of about a week if you store in your refrigerator. -Coffee Creamer: I stumbled upon this one recently and its personally my favourite option. The best alternative for the regular powdered milk. Goes very with tea and cereals. Oh finally, if you still desire your good old dairy milk back, then the only other option is that you get lactase tables (provides your digestive system with the enzyme it needs to properly digest milk). Once you use the tablet right before taking milk, you won't feel any form of flatulence. But, I am yet to find a place where one can buy these tablets here in Nigeria.. This or you just live with the consequences ![]() |

Jazakillahu khairan Want to share a dua we can recite when feeling weakness of faith ﺍﻟﻠﻬﻢ ﺣﺒﺐ ﺇﻟﻴﻨﺎ ﺍﻻﻳﻤﺎﻥ , ﻭﺯﻳﻨﻪ ﻓﻲ ﻗﻠﻮﺑﻨﺎ , ﻭﻛﺮﻩ ﺇﻟﻴﻨﺎ ﺍﻟﻜﻔﺮ ﻭﺍﻟﻔﺴﻮﻕ ﻭﺍﻟﻌﺼﻴﺎﻥ , ﻭﺟﻌﻠﻨﺎ ﻣﻦ ﻟﺮﺍﺷﺪﻳﻦ , Allahumma Habbib Ilaynal Iman Wa Zayinhu Fi Qulubina, Wa Karrih Ilaynal Kufra Wal Fusuqa Wal Isyan, Waj Alna Minar rashidin Translation: ‘O Allah, make Imaan beloved to us and beautify it in our hearts. And make Kufr (disbelief, transgression and sins) hateful to us and make us among those that are rightly guided.’ |
So I was reading about his life and I found some really inspiring things. I'll mention one which was the events that unfolded during his assassination. So that morning, Umar bin Khattab ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ ) came out as usual to lead the ummah for salatul fajr. As the prayer started, behind a pillar in the front of masjid hid a slave by the name of Abu Lulu Al Majusi - "Abu Lulu, The Fire Worshiper". When Umar ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him) began the prayer, he jumped out from behind this pillar with his dagger that had 2 heads, and some narrations explain that he soaked it in poison for a month with the mptive that if the stabbing doesn’t kill the individual, the poison surely will. Then he stabs Ameer ul Momineen Umar Ibn Khattab ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him) 3 times or 2 times - different narrations, in the chest, in the shoulder and beneath his naval. The wound beneath the naval was slit open up to the point that the narration says; the contents of the abdomen of Umar were hanging out. Imagine such a scenario! Now Umar bin Khattab ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him) what does he do? STABBED 3 TIMES! , to the point that again, the lower abdominal injury is so bad that it's contents are sticking out. He grabbed Abdur-Rahman bin Auf ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him), one of the senior sahabas behind him and gets him to lead the prayer and then he passes out unconscious. Now Abdur-Rahman finishes the prayer. Now look at this, Abdur-Rahman ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him) finishes the prayer (he read a short surah so they could attend to the situation on ground). They don't stop the prayer! Now, Abdur-Rahman bin Auf finishes the prayer and Abdullah son of Umar ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him) narrates what happens next. ﺃَﻗْﺒَﻠْﻨَﺎ ﻋَﻠﻰ ﺃَﺑﻲ ﻟِﻨَﺤْﻤِﻠَﻪ ﻓﺈﺫﺍ ﺟِﺮَﺍﺣُﻪ ﺗَﻨْﺰِﻑُ ﺑِﺎﻟﺪَّﻡِ ﻓَﺄﻗْﺒَﻠْﺖُ ﺃَﺿَﻊُ ﺃَﺻَﺎﺑِﻌِﻲ ﻋَﻠﻰ ﺟُﺮﺡِ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻭَ ﺃَﻣْﺴِﻚَ ﺍﻟﺪَّﻡَ ﻓَﻜَﺎﻧَﺖ ﻳَﺪِﻱ ﺗَﺪْﺧُﻞُ ﻓﻲ ﺑَﻄْﻨِﻪِ ﻓَﺨَﻠَﻌْﺖُ ﻋِﻤﺎﻣَﺘﻲ ﻭ ﺭَﺑَﻄﺖُ ﺑِﻬﺎ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺑﻄﻨﻪ ﺛﻢ ﺣﻤﻠﻨﺎﻩ ﻭ ﻋﻤﺮ ﻻ ﻳﺪﺭﻱ ﻋﻦ ﺷﻲﺀٍ ﺃﺑﺪﺍ ( ﻳﻌﻨﻲ ﻣُﻐﻤﺎ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺗﻤﺎﻣﺎ ) He says, “ We came to my father to carry him home, his injuries were flowing with blood”. Umar ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him) had open wounds, open abdominal injuries from which the blood was flowing so he says: “I put my hand, my fingers over the injury to stop the blood from flowing. My hand entered into his stomach. So we carried him home.”And he says “I took out my turban and we tied it around his injuries to stop the bleeding. We carried him home and my father was completely knocked out - didn’t know what was going on.” Now they take him home and they are trying to wake him up. “Ya Ameer ulMomineen, O Umar. Ya Umar.” Yani, he is not responding to anything. Some narration said he only wakes up when they said: ﺃﻣﻴﺮ ﺍﻟﻤﺆﻣﻨﻴﻦ، ﺍﻟﺼﻼﺓ ﺍﻟﺼﻼﺓ ! Ya Ameer ul Momineen. As salah. As salah”. “The prayer. The prayer. O Ameerul Momineen.” Then out of unconsciousness he wakes up into consciousness. And the narration says, “He looked to the right and he looked to the left.” Now imagine the scene, you have people crying, women crying behind the curtains. The sahaba around Umar ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him), they're concerned and they are worried about him and his is body pulsating with pain. Then imagine what his FIRST WORDS were when he woke up. He says, "Did the people complete the prayer? Did the people complete the prayer?” And they say, “Yes, O Ameer ul Momineen”. Then he looks at the crowd he sees his son and he says: “ Ya Abdullah. Bring me water.” His son replied, “Do you want to drink?” He says, “ No, I need to make wudu. I didn’t complete my Salat-ul-Fajr. I was cut off from salah”. So Abdullah brings Umar ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him) the water in this state! You know they brought a doctor to him and they had him drink milk and the milk poured out from the wound he had. That’s how bad of an injury he had, Umar bin al Khattab ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ | May Allah be pleased with him). And they say when that happened we knew he was going to die. At that state he wants to make wudu, not just tayammum he wants to make WUDU, to pray. And then he says, “O Abdullah, sit me up.” He was lying down he says, “Sit me up”. His son tells him “O my father you are in this state and you want me to sit you up. Really?” He says, “Sit me up. May you have no mother”, meaning “Sit me up, there is no time to mess around.” And his son tries to sit him up. And he says “I don’t want to pray, I don’t accept praying lying down, in this state.” So when they sat him up his injury opened and the contents of his abdomen, his intestines popped out a second time and he let out this cry of pain so they laid him back down and they covered the injury and then he prayed Salat-ul-Fajr, in this state. Now after this, after this, he asked the question that we all would think he would ask right away: “ ﻣﻦ ﻗﺘﻠﻨﻲ؟ Who tried to kill me?” And they say, “The slave of Al Mugeerah” And he says “ Abu Lulu Al Majusi the fire worshipper?” and they said yes. Just look at how high the regard he holds for prayer is that. Which one of us can boast to possess such level of dedication and passion towards our religious duties. May Allah strengthen our iman. Amin |
snapscore:Wa alaykum salam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh I've been fine. Alhamdulillah Hope you're good too |
RABIUSHILE04:Jazakallahu khairan brother. Really thought provoking |
So out of my sheer love for Chinese movies of those days (the likes of Jackie Chan and Jet Li), one night as I was going to bed, I decided to land on my bed in grand kungfu style . One thing led to the other and all I can remember was hearing something snap. Alas! I had fractured my left wrist. I cried myself to sleep that night and was so scared about what my mum would say that I tried hiding it from her. But as we know mums, you can't outsmart them with things that.Another time I searched all round the house looking for spiders and then place them on my hand expecting them to bite me so that I can gain powers like spiderman. Chai! Those movies really messed with my head back then |
wamiikechukwu:Brother, it is never too late to begin. Learning is a lifelong journey in Islam and there is never a point where once can claim to be at the pinnacle. Many of us who were born into Muslim homes only started striving to gain the proper knowledge recently. All you just need to have is the sincerity of heart and ask for Allah to guide to rightly. Little by little, you'll start to make progress. May Allah bless you, guide you and strengthen your faith. |
As far as I'm concerned, it is not in any way necessary or important. Most people (I think yorubas especially) mainly just do it as a means of showing off that they've gone for hajj. This is the kind of ostentatious spending highly discouraged in Islam. |
Wa alaykum salam warahmatullah I remember there used to be Zulikha Abiola Arabic And Islamic Center at Abiola way some years back. I'm not sure if the place is still functional though. You can check it out Or also Hassanatu Memorial Masjid, Opposite Moon gate Hotel, Gbonogun, Abeokuta. These are just recommendations. I've not been to these places personally to ascertain their standard. May Allah make it easy for you. |

lexiconkabir:Not yet. Will find out on Wednesday. Modified Offa |
So I've been attending a qur'an recitation class here in camp which has really made me understand why there is a lot of emphasis on having an ustaadh teach you face to face. No other better way to learn. So many things I already thought I had mastered before only for the teacher to pick out many flaws in my recitation. Tajweed is truly a sensitive art, every single letter must been given its right. May Allah make it easy for those of us still trying to learn. |
lexiconkabir:Well... Alhamdulillah, we're surviving. Generally it's not too bad sha. Has its good and not-so pleasant sides. |
