The team plus Messi played badly. period. If Messi no miss pen, dem for get three points. End of. Messi is 30, not 18. He's not a kid. He played badly, even lost a crucial pen. He should go on vacation, forget this tournament, and try to rebuild his career, or retire. He is a great player, one of the all-time greats, no doubt. But for this particular world cup. he effed up. I don't rate his performance as better than his useless team-mates. In fact, Aguero pass Messi for this world cup sef. If to say he do like Messi, na zero points be that. 1 Like |

4llerbuntu: This is not correct. LTE-A allows you to aggregate spectrum for better output, but what determines your speed is the size of the spectrum band you are aggregating. ntel is aggregating Band 8(900) 5MHZ, which normally will give you a peak baseband throughput of 36Mbps on LTE from Release 10 through to 14, with Band 3 (1800) 15MHZ, which gives you a peak baseband throughput ofabout 112Mbps. CA allows them to put the 15MHZ and 5MHZ together to get somewhere between 145 and 150Mbps. Note that the peak baseband throughput represents what one user can get from the eNodeB. However, the physics ensures that you can never get it. The networks assign peak throughput per user, irrespective of what your device can do. As soon as there are users, they will rebalance and keep dropping speeds. |

4llerbuntu: ntel has Carrier Aggregation. Problem is, most devices you use don't have Carrier Aggregation. Their ZTE MF286+ supports CA. When you log into the admin console, you see it as 4G+. But in any case, CA or not, the end user speeds are being capped. With their 20MHZ, you should normally be getting a combined speed of around 145Mbps peak baseband, if the network is open. But for capacity reasons, nobody opens their network in Nigeria.Else you will have two or three users with the right device maxing out an eNodeB (LTE base station), and everybody else getting shitty speeds. 1 Like |

Ralphlauren: Quite fair assessment, but I don't agree that operators are not innovative in Nigeria. The real problem is, nobody can be excellent at everything, you need to focus on your strength. This is a very different market, and there are so many extant factors. The market is very fragmented and poorly regulated (you can't just jump from voice and data into TV in Nigeria), the operators are struggling to maintain a half-decent quality of service, there is zero infrastructure so you have to build everything from scratch, and we don't have a tech base in Nigeria. We import the technology to deploy telecom in Nigeria at a significant premium, unlike markets where this technology is manufactured, and the premium is not there, or at least the premium is financed long-term. There is also the problem of capital. While operators like MTN who are successful are using capital gained from Nigeria to expand into other markets (consequence of regulatory failures in Nigeria), other largely unsuccessful operators simply can't find the capital they need to expand (Smile, Swift, Spectranet, ntel, and others). It's easy for Sky to build a business in England. Sky is not different from DSTV. They built their DTH TV product on BT's ADSL and fiber infrastructure, and they were reselling internet capacity from BT. Now they are buying mobile capacity from various mobile operators to resell as an MVNO, just to add to the stickiness of their product. They had all the enablers in place to tap into the residential market, and they used their advantage (Content rights) to leverage their way into the broadband business. Why do you think DSTV is not doing what Sky is doing, or pivoting like Sky? They can see the way the telecom players are operating, and they don't want to be dragged into their mess. So they just acquire the basic technology they need (KU-Band Satellite) and distribute their content to homes. They spend their energy on what they feel they can do best (produce and license content), while they keep their tech as basic and controlled as possible. Unfortunately for the wireless network operators, it's a massive technology sinkhole, a racket being controlled by various bodies controlled by the equipment vendors. I.e. if you are not profitable on 2G, you won't be profitable on 3G, and you sure as hell stand zero chance of making it with 4G. It's as simple as that. 6 Likes 1 Share |

4llerbuntu: Which phones were those that you bought and didn't work? Did they work on, say, Smile? Most phones that are sold in Nigeria are not able to work on 4G-only networks; they're configured for CS-Fallback, i.e. connect to 2G/3G for voice, and LTE for data. ntel and Smile don't have 2G or 3G obviously, so ... Though there are a few tricks, but they are a bit of a pain. You can for example download and install the 4G Switcher if they are Android devices, or use the System mode codes to access the device firmware, but when you reboot device, you likely return to square one. 2 Likes 1 Share |
