Politics / Mike Ozekhome Kidnnaped by Ajengogo(m): 10:44pm On Aug 25, 2013 |
Armed bandits were on the prowl again in Benin-City, Edo State capital. They abducted human rights activist and lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN). Four officers of the Edo Police Command were killed in a gun duel with the kidnappers that ensued in an attempt to rescue Ozekhome. THISDAY learnt Ozekhome was kidnapped together with his driver. Their abduction occurred barely 48 hours after the state police command paraded 44 suspected kidnappers in Benin-City. Narrating the development to newsmen, the state's Commissioner of Police Foluso Adebanjo said, "Operatives of the command led by DPO Ehor Division responded swiftly to a distress call at about 3:30 pm that unspecified number of armed men had blocked the Benin-Auchi road by Ehor axis. But on their way, the hoodlums ambushed the police patrol vehicle and opened fire on them, prompting an exchange of fire. "At the end of the gun duel, the hoodlums escaped with bullet wounds but not without their victim who was later identified upon search on his abandoned vehicle as Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and his driver. Regrettably, the command lost four officers in the encounter. "We salute their rare courage and bravery for they fought and died as heroes for the cause of humanity. Their death shall not be in vain. We remain undeterred in our fight against armed banditry". Indications, however, emerged last night that the police in Edo led by Adebanjo were on the trail of the suspected kidnappers of Ozekhome. The Inspector General of Police Muhammed Abubakar was said to have directed the Commissioner of Police to fish out the suspects, just as he vowed to ensure that the suspects are brought to justice. Force Public Relations Officers Frank Mba told journalists on telephone that the IGP had directed the Edo CP to commence immediate and vigorous manhunt for the hoodlums "who must be arrested and brought to justice and the kidnapped victims rescued". "We therefore once again call on the general public not to relent in their partnership with the police to fish out the criminals as common enemy to our society and report anyone found with the bullet wounds to the nearest police station." In May unknown gunmen had kidnapped the wife and daughter of Supreme Court Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour. Also abducted was their driver. The trio were intercepted as they were about to enter Benin-City. They were later released about three weeks later, presumably on the payment of some ransom to the kidnappers. Responding to Ozekhome's kidnap last night, prominent lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, said "I have just confirmed that Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) was kidnapped yesterday while travelling between Benin and Auchi in Edo State. "Since the Nigerian state has demonstrated, over and over again, its incapacity to protect the lives and property of citizens and aliens living in our country, I am compelled to appeal to the kidnappers to release Chief Ozekhome (SAN) without delay". |

Op just pointed out a failed project and all of a sudden, we jumped into conclusion that the entire state is a failure. Can we see how we reason in Nigeria? Why don't we ask the op to come up with more proofs of failed projects b4 we come to a conclusion. I hate to read theories/conclusions from arm-chair researchers. Show me a state in Nigeria, and I will show you plethora of failed projects littering everywhere. In as much as I am not happy with the level of development in Kogi state, I have my reservations as to how this op went about painting the picture with ethnic chauvinism dominating the major part of the his writeup. My own conclusion from the writeup is that the op has been having chocking hatred for the Igalas. And the only way he thought he could vent his anger was to capitalise on this particular failed project which is just a project out of so many projects in just a sector of the many sectors of Kogi state's economy. He went ahead to extol the virtues of his people above the igalas and finally landed awkwardly by suggesting the creation of okun state or be taken back to kwara state!!! What a suggestion!!! It is quite hilarious that somebody is suggesting that kwara is a better option to kogi. Let me educate the op that the only difference between kogi state and kwara state in terms of development, generally, is just the age. My candid advise to the op is that if he really wants to champion a cause, he just have to go about the cause devoid of ethnic, religious or sectional bigotry. This problem is exactly the bane of our politicians today. They may have fantastic policies for the polity, but they just cannot go about implementing those policies without mixing it with tribe, religion and the rest. Same thing with this op. He can never make any meaningful contribution to the development of Kogi state or elsewhere if given the opportunity with this mindset. 2 Likes |

My religion tells me that the prayer of someone in distress has no veil between it (the prayer) and the Almighty God. Therefore, I have no doubt in my mind about the positive response from the Grand Creator. Your prayer, my sister, is answered. Continue to keep your faith in God. That boy is going to be another means to elevate your faith in God to higher level. It shall be well with the son, the mother and, in deed, the entire family. Amen |

Romance / Re: Worst Thing You Ever Did To End A Relationship? by Ajengogo(m): 7:33pm On Jun 06, 2013 |
This one is not about separation, anyway. A friend of mine wanted his wife to start sleeping in his mum's room while preparing for another wife. The lady refused to leave her husband's room. One particular night while they were eating their evening meal in d compound, he asked his wife to help him get something from his room (the guy's door is outside of d compd facing an expressway). On getting inside d room, d wife saw a giant masquerade murmuring. She screamed and fled back to d compd. B4 pple came out, d masquerade had disappered into darkness. Nobody believed her story. Knowing what she actually saw, she vowed not to sleep in that room ever again. That is how my friend was able to gain his room back to himself. When the new wife eventually came, the first wife willingly allowed her take over the husband's room without any grudge, believing that one of these days the giant masquerade will pursue her out. 1 Like |

It is now that United owners and fans will know the mess SAF has dragged the club into. How can one be in charge of a club for 26 good years without making any concrete arrangement for at least a successor or series of successors. And the owners played along with this dangerous and selfish arrangement of SAF all these years. Now the club is running helter skelter for a manager while it's shares on NY stock exchange is being negatively affected. To worsen the whole situation, it is this same man that must anoint whoever is coming to succeed him! Why! 1 Like |
