governor obi god will be with you keep up the good work ![]() |
Governor Peter Obi yesterday launched kerosene-for-all programme. By this programme, the State Government, in collaboration with the NNPC and Capital Oil and Gas Ltd will continue to make kerosene available to the people of the state at N50, instead of N120 it presently sells. The programme, which was launched at the Onitsha South headquarters, started with 5 trucks carrying 22,000 litres of kerosene each. Gov. Obi who personally supervised the sales and was completely drenched by the rains said he had to leave office work to do it personally because the well-being of the people of the state was of concern to him. On his being drenched, he said it was a happy and sobering experience that enabled him feel the suffering of the masses. In his words: “Such an experience will only encourage me to continue and even explore further ways of ameliorating the suffering of the people of the state.” During the distribution, the Governor directed that nursing mothers, pregnant women and the aged should be attended to first. When some people raised issues about this, he told them it was part of the efforts encourage the people of the state to return to the old values of respect for the aged and compassion for the some category of people. The exercise witnessed a large turn-out. The Governor said that is was a pilot programme that would quickly be extended to all the Local Government Areas in the State. One of the beneficiaries of the exercise who introduced herself as Mama Ify commended the Governor and appealed to him to extend the exercise to foodstuff. He said seeing the Governor drenched by the rain like any other person was touching. source VANGUARD NEWSPAPER |

CEO Chukwuma showing guests engine/chassis component CEO Chukwuma showing guests engine/chassis component nbf Private Car plant opens in Nigeria Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited (IVM) based in Nnewi, Nigeria has been opened for operation and president of Nigeria was present to cut the tape. The first of its kind in Nigeria, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company is a privately owned company and the CEO Innocent Chukwuma is the principal investor. Many important government and business individuals garthered at the opening ceremony including the governor of Anambra state and some of its cabinet members. There was a huge satisfaction from the guests and mood was festive, as the whole ceremony proceeded. This is a booast for private industry in Nigeria especially in the Auto industry where Nigeria is badly lagging behind when compared to other emerging nations. This is not the only car plant in Nigeria, there was already french based peugeot car plant but it was wholly controlled by the government of Nigeria with its foreign joint partner. Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company do not have a partner with the government rather an independent company that is 100% owned by private individual. President Jonathan said, “I am indeed happy that Innoson is not just assembling parts that are imported from other countries. From all indications, it is only the engine that is imported. Apart from that, every other thing is manufactured in Nigeria,” and stressed that it will help to lessen unemployment and trigger economic growth in the state. He further stressed that government economic policy was in line with development of private industry and private enterprise. According to the CEO of the motor industry, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma said that the car plant employed almost 1,600 Nigerians together with some expatriates while the operation sister company at Enugu employed 1800 Nigerians. pic: Innoson Motors He said, “Mr President, with adequate encouragement, we can go beyond our present level of operation, and when we operate fully, the auto plant alone can employ as many as 3,200. We want to appreciate the example of the Enugu State Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime (who has placed an order for hundreds of buses and refuse disposal vans from Innoson) and pray that every tier of government from Federal to Local Government and government parastatals, should emulate this patriotic act,” he pleaded to President Jonathan. Most of the raw materials were raised in Nigeria and all the car parts were made in Nigeria except the imported engine blocks. Innonson car plant makes seater- buses, double cabin pick up vans and SUVs which were on displayed on the opening day. Nigerian government needs to make a serious decision on moving forward with its iron and steel industry by privatization and giving chance to superior technical and management expertise from the private industry. To improve automobile industry in the country engine blocks must be manufactured in the country. With improvement in the electric power sector and iron-steel industry, Nigeria will join the rest of the productive vehicle manufacturing countries. |

A new bus model has started rolling off the production lines of Nigeria’s youngest auto manufacturing plant, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited (IVM), Nnewi. This, the company disclosed recently, is in tandem with its avowed commitment to the production of varied vehicle types to meet the demands of the local market. The new vehicle bears the official model name Innoson IVM 6540, but is already christened ‘Innoson Hummer Bus’ by early buyers and passengers who have had the privilege of boarding it to various destinations since formal production commenced a few weeks ago. The bus is so richly endowed that it is being tipped to snatch a lot of patronage from the popular Japanese counterparts currently dominating the market. A source at Innoson plant in Nnewi informed Daily Sun Motoring that the bus with seats for 13 to 17 passengers (depending on the need of the customer) has become an ‘instant hit’ only a few weeks after the first unit was produced. He gave two reasons for the Bus: “The first one is that the bus has everything the Japanese version has, but costs more than N2 million less. You know that in the country today, most vehicle buyers go for a product that will perform satisfactorily, but will be comparatively cost-efficient at the same. The second one is that Innoson is backing the vehicles with very reliable after-sales support. So, the buyers don’t have to worry about maintenance already being powered to various destinations like Aba, Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Jos and Kaduna, by the 2.7 litre petrol engines which are said to be very fuel efficient. Some of the transport companies already using the new bus are GUO Motors, Orizu Motors, and Auto Star, which recently took delivery of many units, while the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and an Abuja-based construction company purchased some units for non-commercial purposes. Naturally, while the transporters have been placing orders for their ‘Innoson Hummer Buses’ to be built with the maximum 17 seats, corporate organizations and the churches that have so far taken deliveries, were said to have asked that the interior be configured with fewer number of seats. “We pledged to build Innoson vehicles according to the needs of the buyers, and we have been living up to that with a wide variety of buses, including city buses, small capacity models and inter-city buses, as well as pick-ups, SUVs, refuse compactors, and others. There is no doubt that more will be coming as the market demands them. We have been doing our part. It is left for the government and people of Nigeria to do their own parts by supporting and patronizing us at Innoson”. source SUN NEWSPAPER |

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, and former Chief Justice of the Federation, Alfa Belgore, yesterday launched scathing attacks on unnamed foreign nations whom they blamed for Nigeria's mounting corruption and instability. At a meeting with Mr Tambuwal on Wednesday, Mr Belgore accused foreign nations of arming and sponsoring the Boko Haram sect, whose militant operations have killed hundreds in northern Nigeria and the federal capital, Abuja. "The kind of weapons used by Boko Haram for instance, they are not made here," the former jurist said. "They are not being given to them by people here. If our security were well trained, they would have known where these weapons are coming from." He added that the "so called developed nations" are fanning Nigeria's breakup. Separately, Mr Tambuwal, told a nongovernmental group that lax fund transfer policies of developed nations have "significantly" fuelled public treasury looting in Nigeria. "Because it takes two to tango," Mr Tambuwal told members of the Kuramo foundation, a group pushing for the passage of law enforcing the repatriation and transparent use of recovered funds. "In a case where our foreign friends pay lip service to this, then they are condoning corruption because our public office holders will need where to keep their loot. They should legislate to stop the receipt of such money," the speaker said. He said he had raised similar concerns at a forum in the United States while he served as a member of the House in 2010, and called on the developed nations to "stop cooperating, abetting and aiding corrupt public office holder who after looting our treasury find where to keep the money in their countries." "If you get ill gotten wealth, you will need where to keep them. If you don't find anywhere, then you will be stuck with it, then it will be easy for the law enforcement to get you. The remarks are some of the most stringent and direct from key officials of government, serving or past, against foreign nations, particularly on the subject of Nigeria's fledgling security. Resource course Mr Belgore said many developed nations have worked hard for Nigeria to break up since independence, and would be pleased if that is realised. "One of the best things to happen to the black race is Nigeria. The so called developed nations are not happy with our stability and they try everything to make it unstable," he said. He recalled the alleged role of Germany in Nigeria's deadly first coup of 1966 in which many died, and how the development backtracked the training of personnel for the country's new Air Force. "Nigeria and Brazil had just signed the treaty for our Air Force personnel to be trained by Germany and not long after, we had the first coup in which our leaders were killed," he said. "Then because of the betrayal, our officers including former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar, were recalled and moved to the Army while some were deployed to the Customs and the Police. Meanwhile Brazil continued with their training. "Our iron and steel has remained nowhere despite spending over $80 billion over the past years on the Ajaokuta. After spending that much, we are still grappling with it, we have not gone anywhere." He said the same plot to keep Nigeria permanently on its knees because of its abundant resources is what afflicts the Republic of Congo. "In Congo, they are still killing themselves, and they say we are going to break up by 2015," he said. Back SOURCE NEXT NEWSPAPER |
