I used to be the one calling and checking on relations including my in-laws but I discover nobody give f¥ck about me and family. You actually raised a very important point.

In many cases in Nigeria, wealth does disappear within one or two generations. But when people study this issue closely, they usually discover something interesting.

Most of the wealth that disappears was not tied to productive systems.

If wealth is mostly:

cash in bank accounts

luxury lifestyle spending

properties that only generate rent


then once the original builder of that wealth is gone, the structure that produced the money disappears too.

But history shows that productive assets tend to survive generations much better.

For example:

plantations

factories

industrial businesses

resource-producing assets

These kinds of assets keep producing value whether the owner is present or not.

That’s why some of the wealthiest agricultural families in countries like Brazil, Malaysia, and Indonesia have maintained generational wealth for decades through plantations alone.

The real question is not just “Will children maintain wealth?”

The deeper question is:
What kind of asset structure are we leaving behind for them?

So so true. A classical case with my late uncle.

Let me ask a question: my chairman is an engineering consultant with track records in the build environment especially water/dam. He made a lot of fortune during the military and early civilian era. He invested quite a choke of it in lands and properties. That's want is sustaining the company now as work/ projects not readily available.
My question is; his children aren't in the country with his grandchildren as all of them are citizens of that country together with his wife and they seems to care less about these investments as all of em are doing well for themselves. What ll become the fate of these long time investments when he is gone?

Some is a case of lack of appreciating the man when he was alive. While some is a case of antics .

They loved it when mixed with nice and hard cause they are dramatic in nature.

In the Catholic church, there's distinction between worship (latria) for God and veneration (doulia) for saints like Mary. Catholics only ask for Intercession means asking for her prayers. Not worshipping her as God.

Unfortunately, a significant proportion of women have this forgetful character where they don't remember what was done for them, but only what is being done at the moment.

To counter this as a man, have fewer children. This gives you free time to spend your money yourself and wellbeing.

So, how do you take care of yourself?
- Buy those clothes; eat those dishes and items you have always desired provided the money dey. There are many nice restaurants these days which offer delicious meals. Treat yourself at least once or twice per month.
- Embark on trips either solo or with your friends. Create geninue friendships across professions, ages and walks of life.
- Develop a new hobby or hobbies. It could be volunteering for a cause dear to your heart or anything, but the hobby that keeps you mentally fit, and physically too if possible
- Learn new things/enrol into new courses to broaden your knowledge in a particular subject. It could learning how to invest more profitably even if you studied economics or finance in school.
- Diversify your investments. The Internet has offered everyone the opportunity to learn and implement new ways to invest and build one's nest without leaving his abode.

What I've observed is that too many men stress themselves largely because they have too many children than they (mentally, emotionally and physically) can take care of. So they go the extra mile just to provide whereas their bodies aren't fit for such. Meanwhile, if they had few children, they will have more time for themselves, even if na to just dey sleep.

You see men doing what I describe as "ten man load, one man carry". Taking up projects bigger than themselves and mental capacity.

U just describe my path of life.
Before I got married, I told my wife I only want to have 2 at most 3 children left to me one is even ok because I no come this world to pay or carry so many responsibilities beyond my capability after the shege wey I see as first born of 7 children.

I have been to Akwa-Ibom and Enugu on several occasions This year and I can tell you Enugu beats Akwa Ibom hands down by a big margin.
You must know one of the people who attended the NBA conference in Enugu this year, just ask the person.
Wake up and drive out around 6am in Enugu, you will see road cleaners and sweepers cleaning everywhere and they won't look your way, unlike elsewhere where they will abandon their works and be looking inside your car to give them money (Imo and Lagos tops the list od road workers turned beggers)

Although I am referring to Uyo and Enugu city. I believe the survey was taken in those two capitals.

I was in Uyo last week for competition. That city is clean and crystal clear. On the of departure, we saw their cleaners cleaning around 4 30 am

Not surprised at all. As we are about leaving the state capital on 28th November, around 4:30 am i saw their cleaners in some of the streets cleaning by that time of the day.
Everywhere clean/greener without thrash littering.
