The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has upheld the election of Jesse Okey-Joe Onuakalusi of the Labour Party (LP) as the duly elected House of Representatives’ member for Constituency ll, Oshodi-Isolo, Lagos.

The appellate court, in its unanimous decision delivered on Thursday, dismissed the appeal lodged by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ganiyu Johnson.

The three-member panel held that all the issues raised by the APC candidate were pre-election matters, which the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the LP candidate, Onuakalusi, as the winner of the election after he polled 29,386 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Johnson, who garnered 16,650 votes in the exercise.

Johnson, a former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, represented the constituency in the last four years after winning the APC ticket in 2019. He lost his re-election bid to the LP’s Onuakalusi who polled 29,386 votes in the election to his 16,650 votes.

Dissatisfied with the results, Johnson instituted the petition against INEC, which was listed as the first respondent and Onuakalusi and LP who were listed as the second and third respondents in the petition.

Johnson had brought his petition on the following grounds: “That following the conduct of the primaries of LP on May 28th 2022, one Augustine Chiagozie Matthew emerged as the winner of the primaries.

“That LP refused/failed to forward the name of the said Augustine Chiagozie Matthew to INEC as its candidate.

“That the name of said Augustine was not substituted or withdrawn.

“That Jesse Okey-Joe Onuakalusi‘s name is not on the register of members of the LP submitted to INEC as he was not duly sponsored as a candidate by the party.

“That Onuakalusi’s personal particulars in Form EC9 was not submitted prior to the conduct of the elections of February 25, 2023.”

To support his petition, the petitioner called three witnesses and tendered several documents.

In its 100-page judgment on the petition, the tribunal agreed with the second respondent that the challenge to the primaries that produced the said Augustine Chiagozie Matthew has been put to rest by the decision of the Federal High Court and the Supreme Court and same cannot be revived before the tribunal.

On the issue of membership of the second respondent, the tribunal held that this is both a pre and post election issue.

It also held that the secretary of the Okota ward 3 is in a better position to testify as the issue of membership has long been held to be an internal affair of a party.

A massive fire at a drug rehabilitation centre in northern Iran has killed at least 32 people and injured 16, Iranian media reported on Friday.

The judiciary was investigating the cause of the fire in an opium rehab camp in Langarud in the Caspian Sea province of Gilan, Iran's semi-official Mehr news said.

The judiciary's Mizan news agency said the centre's managers and officials were under investigation.

According to the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, Iran has one of the severest addiction problems in the world.

It lies on the main trafficking route for poppy, the source of opium and heroin, from Afghanistan to Western Europe.

He is a Christian, from the stakeholders who sat and met with the then MHOS, it was agreed that no Christian should be allowed to rule Kogi state, that was the only condition that gave room for the creation of the state, that is why even when AUDU died and Honorable faleke was on the verge of getting the Automatic ticket, Bello came just to fulfill axisting agreement that was entered into in 1991.

So the same fate befall ONOJA in this scenario.

CrimeRe: Nigeria Government Should Shut Down Brothels In Nigeria For This Urgent Reasons by Akaegwu(m): 2:00pm On Nov 01, 2023
Radicalwarrior:
Brothels are making insecurity to increase in the residential areas were this brothels are located.

Criminal activities like robbery, gangsterism, human traffickering, human organs harvesting, kidnapping, smoking of marijuana, intake of cocaine, raping, pick pocket, fighting, human organs traffickering, sales of firearms, noise pollution, public nuisances and other criminal activities occurs frequently in and around brothels location in Nigeria.

If the Nigeria government is serious about tackling insecurities, then closing down brothels will help in reducing high crime rates in Nigeria and if possible any building used as brothels should be demolished to prevent the prostitutes from returning back to the brothels after been chase away by security operatives.

This works to reduce insecurity in Nigeria should not be left to the government alone but community residents, Nigerians and everyone should join in ensuring brothels in Nigeria are shut down and destroy, so insecurity can reduce drastically in Nigeria.
Trash. Brothels is for poor people. Every transaction is now on phone
