PoliticsRe: Day 4: Total Blackout In Nigeria. Why The Silence? by akhis: 10:01am On Mar 10, 2016
Acidosis:
I'm just wondering, today marks the 4th day I've been trying to cope without electricity. Is this problem peculiar to me alone? Or are we suffering and smiling on the Social Media because we have N20 to charge phone on the streets?

Nobody cares about the impact on Businesses. Majority of the frozen food sellers in my street are lamenting as some of them have recorded monumental losses within the past 4 days.

I've personally lost about N50,000 (in directly) due to the failure of this government to admit and confront their failures.

So many business men are running at loss. Nigerians should not keep quiet. Market women, unlike, banks and large organizations do not have the money to purchase large inverters, diesel engines, etc. The few who could afford generators do not have access to petrol as most of the filling stations have shut their doors (in Lagos and Ogun). Mind you, 90% of those selling refuse to sell in Jerry cans. The implication is that a woman who has N100k worth of frozen food would rather bury her goods or fry it all for herself and family.

The big, influential and shameless men who ought to come out and speak are either scared of a fulani man or extremely 'stu.pid' to understand the plight of small business owners who survive on electricity.

I'm not a frozen food seller, but for Christ sake, these folks are Nigerian citizens who have chosen to survive in the absence of direct jobs from the government. Hence, they deserve the right to enjoy the basic amenities like electricity and fuel.

May the curse of the Lord remains in the house of the wicked.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Won’t Release 2 Detainees Despite Court Orders. Washington Post. by akhis: 8:18pm On Dec 31, 2015
lastmanstandn:
Buhari, Our National Interest and Court Orders
A step below President Buhari's present level of high-handedness only brings us back to the era of impunity that we voted Jonathan out for.
Nigerians are very forgetful of the past. Nigeria, under the watch of the Fmr President, could not successful keep terror suspects in custody because prosecutors failed to prepare a case. We had a system where court orders and injunctions stalled corruption cases and made a mockery of our fight to defeat corruption and insecurity across the country. This time, we have an executive that is willing to stretch its constitutional powers to keep Nigeria safe and recoup stolen fund, yet we're starting to paint the President as a dictator.

Kanu is a threat to our national security. In advanced societies, suspects are detained for issues as trivial as traffic offence to keep them in custody while a stronger case is put together, why must Nigeria be different? Societies with strong intelligence communities engage whatever means is takes to keep terrorists and extremists out of circulation, must ours be different? Indeed, there are global concerns with regards to ethical issues in national security and intelligence activities of nations; developing countries should not be singled out as if we are the only ones involved in such. Indeed, the primary responsibility of government is to ensure its people live neither in fear of terrorism, external aggression nor poverty and other factors that undermine their peace and safety while it also sustains the fundamental rights of its people. However, many advanced nations have passed through periods of national crisis when liberties were exchanged for greater security, the balance between both being restored after such crisis, and Nigeria is at that point right now.

Within the last 10-15 years, advanced nations have defied international charters against enhanced interrogation techniques, illegal rendition, detention without trial and all sort of measures all for the sake of national security. We have not resorted to this yet you're starting to paint us as bad. We have not rendered our terror suspects to Niger, as you did render yours to Egypt for torture, we have not built illegal detention facilities in Chad, as you've done in Cuba, Kanu has not accused our security agents of subjecting him to waterboarding as you've done to many of yours, so what is the fury about? We understand you did what was necessary for the safety of innocent people, just as President Buhari is doing the same. Nnamdi Kanu's illegal entrance into the country with equipment for the purpose of undermining our national security is enough to get us worried, and get a responsible President to act.

On the NIMASA ex-DG and Arms thieves, I doubt if there is any law in Nigeria or anywhere in the world that restrains the authorities from re-arresting a suspect on different charges after he/she has been granted bail on others. Hence, we do not have to blame the President for identifying measures within our laws to use against corrupt public office holders just to keep them from jumping bail. We had a soft-spoken, gentle-looking President whose lame duck attitude cost us $2.1 billion meant for the war on terror and drove us where we are today, but we have moved on. Now we have a stronger, more willing leader in President Buhari and the best we can do is support him to do whatever is right and just to keep us on the path of prosperity and security again.

As Nigerians we must understand that security is a collective task that requires the mutual cooperation of every citizen, and the understanding that our liberties will not be compromised as long as we remain law abiding and do not act in ways that endanger others, as Dasuki Sambo and his partners are alleged to have done to our soldiers and our countrymen up North. We need to understand that a man that literally sneaked into the country using unconventional methods can sneak out using same methods; that we lack the intelligence capability to keep tabs on all suspects, and just like in past cases, corrupt public office holders may escape justice by choosing not to return to Nigeria if they are allowed to pursue whatever medical excuses abroad and extradition is not as easy as it appears. We are protected as law-abiding citizens, and we have in President Buhari what we have always desired, a strong man with great political will to frustrate corrupt public office holders, a step below President Buhari's present level of high-handedness only brings us back to the era of impunity.

AgricultureRe: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by akhis: 6:53pm On Oct 27, 2015
Thanks so much for the write up. But let me ask. When u say a decent income from sales of about 1000 a year, whats range of income do you mean by decent income from sales of 1000 taking out all associated costs.

dejia:
Hello Farmers,

Not to bore those who dont like to read long stories, i have summarised my experience,

i hope this will be valuable for some farmers, or those who intend to go into farming.

This is strictly from my personal experience and not a standard.

I have received e-mails from several people who intend to go into farming, planning to quit their jobs and go into it full time at

a later stage, from my experience, you will require a 50 sow production line ( meaning 50 Sow (females) ) weaning about 1,000

piglets yearly.i think with a production of this nature, you can make a decent income , better than most paid jobs. But Please start small and

grow your herd.

My write up is for people looking in that direction

** Land Size:

Alot of young people are going into farming, acquiring land, and trying to start small, from my experience, i will

advice you try and much has possible to acquire a decent size, 2-4plots isnt enough for piggery, except you have plans

to move after 1 or 2years, which isnt easy. i recommend a minimum of 1 hectares ( 20 plots) if you really want to go big ( have about 50

sow production line). I know it might cost alot of money, but its very important.

You might argue and say that size is too big, you just need to build a small pen, etc.. have you considered where you will dispose

your waste? If other people buy the land around and start to complain of smell, what do you do? Cost of constructing a pen isnt cheap

so i will rather advice you get a decent size of land, so that you have room for future expansion;

it is difficult having two diff farms, its always better if all its at a particular location, it will be easier to share

resources, for you to make it in piggery, you will also require to build a farm house, borehole; etc..

Piggery is long term and not for small players

For those who want to start small, i will recommend, you rent a Pen instead.

*** Water:

I can write 50 pages on my water experience in ilorin; well i know alot of people down south might not experience this

but before you purchase that land for a piggery, get a Geologist to come and do a survey , to ensure there is " industrial/Commercial"

volume of water ( Not domestic). this will cost you about 15k naira

No water no farming, if you cant get decent volume of water, please dont bother to go into piggery, a breast feeding sow

requires 23liters per day, you require almost the same amount to clean the house, i wont recommend you rely on a river

or a well.
Also, you need drinking nipples/ tips, for the pigs; i have seen alot of water farms , where there water isnt automated

that the pigs drink from the wallowing house, i love to compare pigs with human beings, what you cant drink, dont give your pigs to drink.

Will wait for feedback and questions, those who have e-mailed me in the past without a response, am sorry, pls resend.

I will write later on Management and " Nigerian Factor".

I hope my 2kobo ( 2cent) advice has blessed someone

@Akhis : Reuben is right, its probably hernia. It won't affect the pig in anyway though, apart from the extra "load". Just leave it alone. don't try castrating it, might lead to complications.
Also, if you have options, don't use it to cross; you don't want to continue that bloodline.
REUBEN010:
Saw something like that on the abdominal region of one gilt in one farm I visited. The manager said its hernia.
Thanks guys for your response. I will just keep the animal and monitor it. I hope it stays alive till when its matured to sell out. I feel more ccomfortable now. Thanks my "nairapidia"

Thanks and congratulations too, mine is 5days old today, will give them antibiotics in few days time. I don't know about cutting of teeth, how do you do it and why?
There are about 8 mollar teeth. They are obviously the bigger teeths so far. I learnt that if u dont break them off, they will not be able to suck more as they will be bitting their mum with it. Also, they could be destructive with the teeths when the animals grow bigger. Maybe other persons can give better reasons. But let a pro help u do it.

Hello dejia, Happy Independence too, I asked a question earlier but nobody answered it. Please help me out here. one of my gilts just farrowed, it farrowed nine(9) littres and this is actually the first to farrow in my farm. I really wanna take care of the piglets to get 100perceent survival, my questions are
1. How do I prepare a creep feed for them?
2. Are there other medications I need to give them to prevent diseases? (NOTE: I administered iron injections to them on their 4th day of life)
3. How long do you advice me to leave them with their mother before I wean them.

Thanks. I count on your professional advice.
My mate. Congratulations. Mine also farrowed nine, the first time and they are two weeks old. I only gave them iron and antibiotics then cut the teeth. Thats all I have done but they piglets are all doing fine
