WARNING: “I really gave the military and police order to be ruthless... Anybody who thinks he has enough influence in his locality to lead a body of thugs to snatch ballot boxes or disturbs the voting system, will do so at the expense of his own life." – President @MBuhari.

I read on my TL many Nigerians who say they traveled to vote and were frustrated by the postponement and cant afford to travel again. God willing, I‘ll provide buses to and fro 4 of the geopolitical zones for such people IRRESPECTIVE of how you intend to vote #BusesForDemocracy.

It is the intention of President @MBuhari, in instigating the postponement, to frustrate voters and cause a low voter turnout. We must not allow that to happen. I call on other wealthy Nigerians to help facilitate a high turnout by providing #BusesForDemocracy to ALL Nigerians.

God willing, I‘ll provide modalities/logistics for the buses. I wish I was rich enough to provide buses to and from all the geopolitical zones, but for now my pocket can only afford 4 zones. But if you can help, please do something. Frustrate the frustraters #BusesForDemocracy

I urge my Nigerian brothers and sisters who wasted money to travel and were frustrated by the postponement, not to lose heart. Watch this space on Wednesday for details of the free buses. I beg you, for the love of Nigeria, please make plans to return to vote #BusesForDemocracy

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomole has dared to take the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to court over the ban of campaigns.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had on Saturday after the announcement of the postponement of the presidential election, prohibited the continuation of campaigns by political parties.

However, Oshiomhole, speaking at APC National Caucus Meeting held in Abuja on Monday, said the ruling party will go ahead with campaigns till Thursday.

He threatened to take INEC to court if it dares to stop APC from campaigning and enlightening Nigerians to vote on Saturday.

He said, “INEC Chairman does not have the right to ask us as a political party not to go out and campaign despite postponing the presidential election.

“We need to start campaigning again to our members who may have forgotten , not campaigning is not good for our party.

“Without insulting INEC, we are proceeding to campaign till Thursday and ready to take INEC to court in regards to laws in the constitution.”

PoliticsReason Why I Cannot Sack Yakubu Mahmood As INEC Chairman - Buhari Reveal by akinblog(op): 9:29am On Feb 18, 2019
President Buhari has said he cannot remove Mahmood Yakubu as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), because he would need a resolution by two-thirds majority of the Senate to do so.

There have been speculations that Buhari was set to fire the INEC boss, following the abrupt postponement of the general elections.

However, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, insisted there was no truth in such claims.

“Those reports are utterly baseless and false. There is nothing like that.

“Whoever is saying the President is removing INEC chairman is just displaying his illiteracy. Let him go and read the constitution.

“You need a resolution by two-thirds majority of the Senate for any such action,” Shehu said according to The Nation.

INEC moved the general elections to Saturday, February 23, about six hours to the start of the polls on the original date of February 16.

PoliticsPDP Dares INEC, Re-open Presidential Campaign On Monday by akinblog(op): 8:31pm On Feb 17, 2019
Polls Postponement: The PDP after due consideration of the provision of the Electoral Act, is set to reopen its open campaigns consequent upon the postponement of Presidential and Senate elections by INEC from the earlier scheduled date of Feb. 23, 2019.

The PDP rejects the wrongful administrative prohibition of open campaigns by INEC, holding that such administrative pronouncement was erroneous, directly in conflict with the provision of the Electoral Act and is not backed by any other law in our country.

Our position is predicated on the clear provision of section 99 (1) of the Electoral Act which stipulated that “for the purposes of this Act, the period of campaigning in public by every political party shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day”

The clear import of this provision, in the current situation, is that given the postponement of the election to February 23, 2019, the 24 hours requirement for closure of all public campaigning falls at midnight of February 21, 2019.

The PDP reminds INEC that whenever its administrative pronouncement conflicts with the Electoral Act, such administrative pronouncement must bow before the law. The party charges INEC to be appropriately guided while directing its members to await further directives.

PoliticsNigerians Are Now Wiser - Saraki Reacts As INEC Postponed General Election by akinblog(op):
Senate President, Bukola Saraki reacts as INEC postponed General Elections till March 23rd.

Waiting till just a few hours to the commencement of voting before announcing the postponement of elections is extremely sad. Nobody can quantify the difficulty that this will bring to millions of Nigerians across the nation.

I empathize with youth corps members who have been relocated from their places of primary assignment to assist with the conduct of the elections. My thoughts also go out to workers and civil servants who left their bases to go and vote in their hometowns.

I also sympathize with millions of ordinary Nigerian traders whose businesses were suspended because of the no-movement order. The costs of this postponement are incalculable.

I want to appeal to Nigerians not to be deterred, discouraged or disappointed. You must all continue to be strong and determined to cast your votes on February 23rd.

My appeal to you is this: Next Saturday, forget the current setback and troop out en masse to vote. Not voting because of the postponement should not be an option.

At this point, government and INEC should focus on the way forward in order to ensure that the elections take place as rescheduled. They should move swiftly to smoothen all the rough edges that currently exist.

INEC must ensure that we do not have a repeat of what happened today. As I have always reiterated, the 2019 elections should be a clear improvement on that of 2015.

Nigerians are now wiser. They will definitely punish this government that has displayed incompetence, lack of capacity and foresight and vote for the team that will #GetNigeriaWorkingAgain.

I urge you all: remain resolute and come out en masse next Saturday to vote for the PDP. The Atiku-Obi ticket have the momentum on its side. This postponement will not slow us down.
