The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, shifted the Presidential and National Assembly elections by one week earlier this morning.

However, the founder and general overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, Prophet T.B Joshua, predicted the development last week.

The decision by INEC to postpone the polls has been met with shock and scorn across the country.

In an article circulated on several news sites earlier this week and even quoted on the cover of a magazine, Joshua stated on Sunday 10th February 2019, that “The Nigerian election may likely be postponed because of many challenges. In whatever way, God is in control.”

He appealed for calm and equally warned troublemakers to be wary of their actions.

He added, “Those who will cause trouble will see trouble and those who will cause peace will see peace,” explaining that the aftermath of the election would “look very fearful.”

“You will see the clouds so dark as if it’s about to rain – but suddenly the dark cloud disappears,” he described.

“If the people of Nigeria want to cause trouble, they will cause trouble for themselves but the nation of Nigeria will stand,” Joshua concluded, adding that Africa’s most populated nation “has a very strong bond with God”.

Also, in a video posted to YouTube on December 10th 2018, which has been viewed almost 200,000 times, the cleric is also seen calling on congregants to “pray against a stop-over” and for a “smooth democracy” for Nigeria .

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has met with members of the European Union (EU) Observer Mission ahead of the general elections.

Professor Osinbajo received the election monitoring team led by the chief observer, Maria Arena, on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the state capital.

The meeting which held privately is part of measures to ensure that the coming elections are peaceful and credible.

Rivers APC Members protest at INEC office
Members of the APC in Rivers State are staging a Protest at the gate of the Office of Independent National Electoral Body in Port Harcourt, the State Capital.

The Protesters are aggrieved over what they say is selective obedience to Court judgement by the electoral body, claiming that a Stay of Execution had been upheld by the Supreme Court.

There is a heavy presence of Security Operatives inside and outside the INEC premises, as the protesters insist that there will be no elections if APC is not on the Ballot.

Gov. Nyesom Wike, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to approve what he described as the “psychiatric evaluation” of the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

According to Wike, Amaechi should be checked for suggesting that he (Wike) negotiated with Buhari, to allow him to win a second term in exchange for the President’s victory.

Addressing non-indigenes of Rivers State at a campaign rally in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Governor Wike said that Amaechi’s “poor psychiatric” condition, was responsible for what he described as his inability to grasp basic political issues.

He said, “If I am their problem, why should I be negotiating with the President?

“It is utter rubbish. It is totally untrue. The President should help us bring a psychiatrist to review the situation of the Minister of Transportation.

“I plead with Mr President to do us this favour because our son is gone. We want to bring him back”.


Wike also expressed disappointment, that Buhari watched Amaechi threaten violence on the people of the state “without taking action”.

“I was so disappointed that Mr President was seated and the Director General of his campaign was threatening violence, singing war songs. Today they signed a peace accord. What will be the meaning of the Peace Accord when Mr President sat down and listened to his Director General threaten deaths and violence?

“I have no problems with Amaechi’s threat of violence, but can he bring his son to lead the war? I challenge Amaechi, he has a grown-up son, who should lead the violence. His son can lead the war and then we will know that Amaechi is serious,” Wike added.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Olu Falae, has resigned from his position as the chairman of the Social Democartic Party SDP.

His resignation comes hours after the party leaders endorsed the candidacy of APC Presidential candidate, President Buhari, for next Saturday's presidential election.

Falae stated in his resignation letter that is ailing health is part of the reasons for his resignation.
