The National Peace Committee, led by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has begun moves to douse what the committee has described as rising tension in the country.

As part of that move towards resolving the dispute, the National Peace Committee has met with PDP flag bearer, as well as other leaders of the party in Abuja, including the vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi; PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, which took place at the residence of the PDP Presidential candidate, Gen. Abubakar said his committee decided to address the disagreement, given its mission to always ensure that there is peace in the country.

“Currently now, tensions are high and we need to see how we can douse the situation. We have come to listen to the grievances from the PDP. We will continue shuttling to see how we can make sure that the peace is maintained,” he said.

Asked if the talks would be extended to the ruling party, Gen. Abubakar said, “Naturally, when you are dealing of course you need to contact all the stakeholders.”

Other members of the committee present at the meeting which was held behind closed doors were the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Kukah and the Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan.

Armed policemen have reportedly stopped a protest march being organized by a group of activist in Lagos.

The activists under the auspicies, Orange movement, had decided to stage a rally this morning to appeal to residents of the state to come out enmass to vote against the ''Bola Tinubu candidate'' in the March 9th governorship election. The group argued that a vote for the governorship candidate of Bola Tinubu, is an extension of his ''rule'' in Lagos state.

The group had gathered in front of the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, to kick off their protest march. They had adopted “O to Ge” chant meaning “Enough is Enough”, which was used to uproot the political structure of Senate President Bukola Saraki in Kwara state during the election.

According to the policemen, the group did not seek permission before embarking on the protest march.

Politics2019 General Elections Is The Worst Election In Nigeria’s History - Atiku by akinblog(op): 5:59pm On Feb 27, 2019
Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded election, says he is confident of victory at the court.
Atiku vowed to challenge the outcome of the election which he described as “worst” in Nigeria’s democratic history.

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated Atiku with over three million votes.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Atiku said the election witnessed an “implementation of grant theft of the people’s will.”
He said voter suppression took place in Akwa Ibom which, according to him, recorded 62 percent decrease in number of votes cast when compared to 2015.

He also said while this was the case in Akwa Ibom, a PDP stronghold, “Borno state recorded 82 percent increase in votes cast despite the insecurity in the state.”

“The electoral fruad cannot produce a government of the people for the simple reason that it does not reflect the will of the people,” he added.

“It is for this reason what I reject the result of the election as announced by INEC.”

Atiku added that he was consulting with the party and Nigerians on the next step.

He said the PDP has “the real figures” from the election, adding that “this is the worst election in Nigeria’s democratic regime.”
