SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS:
Watched a few more games she played these past couple of weeks for PVAMU..

PROS
Football Intelligence: Reads the game well.
Fundamentals: sound - good positioning, agility and ball grip
Ground game: quite good at stopping shots with her feet, and not just her gloves. Good footwork

CONS
Size: Smallish - my initial thoughts are 5'8" might be generous. But then again, I need to see her live to fully assess.
Field Generalship: her distribution (restarting the game) needs some work, as her goal kicks sometimes don't make it to the center line. Good command of the box, though.

SUMMARY
She may end up being a female version of Fabian Bartez. She is work in progress.

PVAMU is in the SWAC and it looks like their season is over. They didn't place high enough to make it into the NCAA playoffs. They lost their final game 0-1 to Texas Southern U. Overall, they had a poor season, winning only 1 game out of about 10 or so.
Their level of competition is not anywhere close to the bigger conferences, like ACC , Big-Ten and PAC12, etc., just to give you some perspective. The likes of Echegini and Abiodun are playing at the highest level, Medinat Lawal is not. (similar to Esther Okoronkwo's NCAA experience).
Location wise, Prairie View is roughly about an hour away from where I live. If time and the opportunity permits, would try and catch one of their games next season.

BTW, who is the Brighton U19 young lady and what's her name?

Your right.
Even at that, she still is a good player.

Deltamani:
It seems you forget that she’s married 😂😂, over a year now if I’m not Mistaken.
One of the reasons she came back from Europe to play in Ethiopia 🇪🇹

AkinDS:
Defensively, there was way too much unnecessary pressure on our CBS because of the absences of a defensive midfielder. This was exacerbated by the Akudo who wasn’t up to par compared with Demehin.

Also, had they played a 442 formation, and started Nicole and Imuran as the outside backs, that would have allowed Alozie and perhaps Toni or Rash play on the wings and provided much needed defensive coverage for the two outside backs. More importantly, it would have give the Ethiopians a lot of extra work to do covering their flanks.

The two upfront (Oshoala and perhaps Onumonu or Kanu or Rinsola) could then tag team on the Ethiopian CBS and give them a myriad of problems as dual strikers.

Even though the high altitude and heavy rains played a significant role in the performance of our girls, the outcome would have been remarkably different!

lovewins:
You started Gift and Kanu, who both sit on the bench in their club. They both added nothing to the game. Rinsola had a few minutes but did a lot more than both of them.

Alozie was a lot better playing from the right, she was a disaster on the left. Why repeat the world cup mistake when Waldrum did exactly the same thing playing her from the right yielding no result? Either play Alozie and Imuran or Imuran and Payne.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 3:53pm On Oct 25, 2023
Where does one begin…

First, why would you play 433 in an away game? 442 is a much more safer and defense oriented formation, especially against teams you haven’t had the chance to full scope out.

Secondly, most of those HBs they brought add little or no value to the team. Someone like Onyenezide or comfort could have been sacrificed for defensive midfielders like Chiney Kalu.

Third, Gift Monday was poor in this game, ditto that for Kanu. The timing of the subs was questionable.

These Naija coaches are a complete joke, and na dem dey make mouth the most.
Deltamani:
So you go da trust Nigerian Coaches 😂😂😂

To me sef, Ann wha get all the Paper Qualifications is nothing to write home about.. Nor be by get all the Certificates, for field of play your team go do well..
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 3:36pm On Oct 25, 2023
Not impressed at all.
Also, this has got to be one of the worst performances by Toni Payne I have seen in the GWG jersey.

Overall performance was underwhelming and coaching selection has been an F minus.
The defensive midfield was completely MIA

The Nigerian coaches have once again illustrated they are mediocre and not up to scratch to handle this team!
lovewins:
Is akudo the only defender we can get from the Nigerian league? She's been underwhelming.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 2:41pm On Oct 25, 2023
Any pitch would be tough to play on after heavy rainfall.
Now that the rains have subsided, ball movement will likely be better
isan:
That pitch is too horrible
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 12:21am On Oct 25, 2023
FYI...that was in 2014. She was converted to a striker in 2016.
If you knew anything about football, once you've played a position at one of the highest levels with great success, it sticks with you.
Its called versatility. That's why some of the greatest players are able to play multiple positions seamlessly. Talk about being clueless!
isan:
The last time oshoala played as a defensive midfielders was 2012 that's like 11 years ago seems to me you're more clueless than the coaches
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS:
Which begs the question...
Who's dumb decision was it to invite Onyenezide, who is an attacking midfielder, when the team doesn't have a single DM?
The team currently has Payne, Ajibade & Efih who are all AMs. Of what use is another AM when you don't have any DMs on the roster?
Wouldn't it have made more sense to invite the U20 girl (Chinye Kalu) as backup?
Just plain dumb!

At this rate, either Nicole Payne or Michelle Alozie or even Oshoala might have to play as DM. If those coaches had any modicum of intelligence, they would have Oshoala play as DM, since she was once a DM and fully understands the role.
Deltamani:
Nothing to write home about at the Center Back Position, Only Demehin at least there are Full Backs ( Alozie, Nicole, Imuran and Jumoke)

DM zerooooo, All the midfielders available are attacking minded.

Upfront is pretty very Solid
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 11:26pm On Oct 24, 2023
They will be playing the match at the Abebe Bikila stadium in Addis, which has a decent enough field.
It was recently upgraded this year by a Chinese firm and passed recent CAF inspections.
We should be okay.
solonnachi:
Ethiopian FA playing mind games. Make God help Super Falcons tomorrow because with that bad pitch I saw, I pray our girls don't get wounded and the weather is favourable. Most of our girls are Rockies like Esther Onyenezide, Ajakayez Comfort Folorunsho and co. May God help us to win ooo
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 2:27pm On Oct 24, 2023
They had better be!
Otherwise, they all will be nothing short of useless, considering all the talent and personnel they have at their disposal.
Deltamani:
Ann Chiejine is capable but I can’t say the same for Justin Madugu who have worked with different Head Coaches of the SuperFalcons and SuperFalconet… He has been around the various Women’s team for years I believe he’s Capable enough too..
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 2:25pm On Oct 24, 2023
Pitt is neck deep in trying to land an NCAA playoff spot - ditto that with Echegini’s Florida State.

Pitt lost to Syracuse this past Sunday so hey MUST win their next match to make the playoffs and get a chance at the sweet sixteen.

The SF Nigerian crew, after tagging along all this while with Randy, should be able to beat Ethiopia. If not, they all need to be fired for incompetence.

lovewins:
Randy Waldrum will not be in charge of Super Falcons when Nigeria file out to face Ethiopia on Wednesday.

The University of Pittsburgh Panthers women’s head coach had already told the NFF that he will only be available for the second leg fixture scheduled to hold in Nigeria due to personal commitments in the United States.

His Nigerian assistants: Justin Madugu, Ann Chiejine and Auwal Makwalla who have worked closely with Waldrum in the last two years will manage the team on his absence.

The stupidity of NFF Sec. Gen. (Mohammed Sanusi) and his team come to fore.
A bunch of morons who lack critical thinking and have no love for the country.
They believe by shortening the days the girls are in camp, the less money they are obligated to pay them and the more money they will have for themselves to embezzle.
Those guys are THE problem with Nigerian football!!!
lovewins:
I know. I was particular about scheduling. Most of the other qualifying game holds 26th and 27th. We should have probably pushed for that.

Balogun (33+). has been tried and gave a decent performance (clean sheet vs. Costa Rica in a pre-WWC friendly), but is currently playing as a backup at St. Etienne (Arkema D1).
The other one (Oluehi, 36+) seems past her prime and ready for retirement (Saudi League).
There is no one else that's up and coming and credible.
GeneralDae:
Why is Yewande not tried?

Future for the SF is really exciting.

Had to opportunity to watch the Florida St. vs Pitt game live on TV.
Echegini and Abiodun went at it in the midfield, and both had very good games (Echegini scored the 3rd goal for Florida St.).
The commentators were just singing the praises of Abiodun, commending her for her intelligent play on and off the ball.

Nigeria is very lucky to have had a coach who discovered these two young ladies and gave them a chance at becoming great players, both of whom are really good box to box midfielders. Very proud of both ladies performances!

Nigeria has the personnel and capability to become a top 20 team in the world, without a doubt. Offence, midfield and defense. My only concern is in the goal keeping department, where we don't have any credible #2 and #3 goalkeepers. Otherwise, we can compete with the best in the world.

Barca vs Granada (6-1)

Oshoala with a brace and Edna Imade with a very good game, troubling the Barca defense with her pace.

Great to see the two Nigerians, Oshoala and Edna Imade talking at the end of the game.
