Here is a cost savings proposal to the useless NFF...

Sanusi Mohammed (Sec. Gen.) makes $10k/mo (paid in US dollars)
Randy Waldrum makes $10k/mo.

Get rid of Sanusi, who does absolutely nothing at all, but be a cog in the wheel of progress and retain Randy, who is actually adding value to the team.

That's $10k / month in savings for the NFF, which could be used to help pay off the monies owed to the multitude of coaches being owed bonuses over the years.

...but of course, Gusau is too much of an im.becile. to do that, especially since Sanusi is a fellow northerner.
Morons running the show in the NFF.

Please bring up where I or any other person for that matter said that. I even remember clearly stating here he earns $10k

On the contrary, the facts are very relevant.
1. Fact. She started both games because 2 of the choice center-backs were injured. (Wo)Manpower shortage in the CB position during the Turkey friendlies. Coach had no choice but to field her. Otherwise, she would have been on the bench, like she was in the 3 friendlies (pre-Turkey) and the FIFA WWC (post-Turkey).
2. Fact. Unclear about your reference to the coach and her being forced on him. Not sure where that came from.
3. Fact. Agree the only thing that would change within the next 4 years is her still being on the team as a player. Ain't gon happen. You can take that the bank! All that talk about 7 WWCs is her stroking her own ego.

She really needs to go get her coaching certs - she has learnt alot over her 30+ yrs of playing football. She needs to make herself useful and start a post playing career as a coach, if she has any hope of attending the next WWC.

BascoVanVeli:
Did she start the 2 matches yes or no? All that other stuff is irrelevant. If u don't want to use a player u won't use her. This is a player that the coach always praises but u want me to believe she was forced on him?

I definitely cleared up my point in a previous response I made to u. Like I said then, a lot can change in 4 years.

Yes, since her U17 days and I am still not impressed.
Nnadozie was a backup to her.
I’m sorry, but I don’t see the value she can add. Would rather invest in some of the younger keepers like Omilana or the Anderline girl.
Deltamani:
AkinDS if I may ask did you watch Okeke from the U17 down to the U20 and any of her recent matches??

Go into the NWFL list of goalkeepers right now and will pick Okeke among the top3 best Nigeria have in the League..

Christy Ohaeriaku, Obia Christiana, Anderline Mgechi are the few goalkeepers in the league we can pick out right now..

Omilana came back from U17 World Cup and couldn’t get back her spot back at Club level till season ended. She couldn’t make the last U20 WAFU Squad too, I jus hope she gets it right as most persons here see her as one for the future..
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 12:08am On Aug 15, 2023
Both Ohale and Plumptre were nursing injuries at the time (vs Haiti and N. Zealand). It therefore made sense for her to play. Consequently, during the WWC proper, she was a bench warmer.

Not particularly bothered by her comments because she wouldn’t make the team. It is absolutely ridiculous to even suggest she would, considering that he plethora of players Nigeria has and will have by the next WC.
BascoVanVeli:
There is a big difference between playing till 39 and playing in 6 world cups. That record is an undeniable fact.

About Onome's selection, stop the CAP. The same Waldrum that called out the NFF for trying to select his players. How did they then force Onome on him? Someone that started the last 2 friendlies before the world cup and scored a goal, which kind of talk is this na?

Of the 14 players you listed, only Nicole Payne, Chinyere Kalu, Oyenezide, Rinsola, Evelyn and Mbadi are worth spending any time on.
The others are either too old or simple not good enough, as they have underwhelmed.
That U20 keeper during the recent WAFU cup, Jumoke Alani, Ajakaiye and Bello should be the focus of our Next gen SF.

I really don’t know what you continually see in that Okeke keeper. For me, she has proven to be very poor, lacking in the basic fundamentals of goalkeeping.

So could have the vicious shin stump by Evelyn Viens on Ohale which had multiple compound fracture written all over it and was a no call (it seems all the people in the VAR room were on a bathroom break when the incident happened).
The Canadian got up and completed the match as if nothing happened. Clearly, there was no ill-intent from Abiodun, unlike the Canadians stump which was intentional.

No one here is talking about Haiti's 🇭🇹 performance against England. Yeah, they lost to England by a retaken penalty but my God, their attack was really what we needed badly against Canada. Football is a teamwork, and not an assiat oshoala work. But the team needs her to click and be explosive as the number 6 of Haiti was. I'm sure Haiti will not go far in this word cup, but certainly, I recon they got a good team and that anything is possible going foward

FIFA and their implicit RACISM.
The girl that stumped on Ohale should have been redcarded. That stump was so late, it came in yesterday.
But because she was white, not even a yellow card.

I knew there was a racist intent when there was NO African on the VAR team. And I was proven right.
CAF must insist on having an African on the VAR team whenever an African team plays.
This is not even fully anymore.

Racist bastards!

Your intellectual dishonesty is very nauseating!! and one more thing, try not being obtuse!

Oh, wow!
But it wasn't for the very obvious FACT that Okobi is old and simply does not have the kind of energy that a Jennifer Echegini or Debbie Abiodun Also, the last time I checked, Okobi was a midfielder, not a forward. But hey, what do I know.

SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 1:51am On Jul 22, 2023
Sorry, but I really struggle to see why everyone things she is all that? Her last international against Ghana was a poor exhibit for her.
I doubt if she will be as successful as Echeghini. In the midfield, I think that lady named Kalu who played in the WAFU competition in Ghana would be the next one to bring aboard the SF. The likes of Ajakaiye and Aminat Bello are waiting in the wings. Also, Rinsola is coming aboard after the WWC.

I hope I am wrong, but I really don't see her being an impact on the SF.
daveP:
Whoever takes over from Randy has the sole task of either creating a more modern pattern of play that makes Oshoala unlocked full barca mode, or totally change the reliance of attack on her that eyes gets off her for a while. 2 World cups, same problem.

We need 3 players

Pace-1
Vision-1
Control-1

Kanu
Onyenezide
Ayinde
Till further notice, we don't look like dominating play unless things change. The personnel is almost on ground, yet...
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS:
For the first foul.
No card was given to the girl who committed the first foul on Ohale.

Whites commentors and analysts ALWAYS use the words 'physical', 'robust' and 'strong' to describe African teams, especially south of the Sahara. They have repeated those words so many times that it has become a dog whistle which has been imbibed by white people and implicitly biases their decision making, including match officials and specifically referees. This is intentional. The seed has been planted. That's why white players get away with murder on the field and everyone turns a blind eye.

There were several incidences I noted - like the blatant foul on Onumonu in the box when she got wrestled to the ground and wacked on the head in the second half. THAT was a clear cut penalty. However, as usual, no review.
The four VAR officials were all white, so were the four on-field officials.

Yet, someone here will turn around and say there was no racist intent?
Deltamani:
One of the reason the Nigerian fans were shouting about the Referee been Bias… Infact the VAR room too they all could have called her attention but didn’t, Ohale received two of those tackles but no Huitema was only given a Yellow Card..
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 10:34pm On Jul 21, 2023

SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 9:19pm On Jul 21, 2023
Question we Nigerians and Africans should be asking is how Ohale was able to walk away from that vicious stomp from the Canadian white girl?
It was intentional, deliberate and callous. Yet she got away scotch free without a single caution or VAR review?
Seriously? That’s the kind of stomps that produce compound fractures that takes eons to heal and are career ending!

Deltamani:
Again, how Ashley walked away from this is a bloody miracle.🫣
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 3:53pm On Jul 21, 2023
I think your analysis here is brilliant!
Randy’s strategy worked extremely well - the defensive shape was spot on.
This is the WWC and the most important thing was to get a positive result in the first game. We did that.
That was clearly the target and we all saw Chiamaka’s celebration and relief after the whistle blew.
The ladies have all gotten their gitters and nervousness out of the way and will be a bit more relaxed going forward.

Was also very impressed with their fitness levels. People forget the game was played at High Noon in Melbourne where temps were highest in the day. Next game is a night one, so we can expect that their energy and intensity levels will be higher.
lovewins:
My Analysis of the game. What do you guys think

1. The most important point for me is that the team had a game plan and they executed it almost perfectly. If you've followed the Super Falcons for sometime, you'll know we've always had issues with defensive discipline. Randy did a good job drilling the team to be disciplined defensively the entire game.

2. The criticisms of Oshoala are unwarranted. You don't build attacks in isolation. She rarely received supplies and that's due to the way we played.

3. Blessing Demehin was solid defensively. She made critical tackles and blocks that kept us in the game. She however was an eyesore anytime she received the ball. She almost always gave the ball away and put pressure on the team defensively. Of course being her first world cup, nerves may have kicked in, but if I were Randy, bill rather be safe than sorry. It's better they avoid passing the ball to her and leave her to her defensive responsibility.

4. Same can be said for Michelle Alozie. She was okay defensively (her first half play wasn't impressive), she however put the team in uncomfortable positions. All her runs forward amounted to nothing, cause she either had problems controlling the passes she received or she just takes too long deciding what to do with it. She needs to step up quickly.

5. Deborah Abiodun and Christy Ucheibe understood the assignment. Debbie was all over the place making critical interceptions, giving the Canadians a run for their money. Ucheibe gave a player of the match display in my opinion. If she keeps the tempo we'll surely have a great world cup campaign. Of importance is the fact that Debbie proved many here wrong who questioned her inclusion in the team.

6. Onomonu despite playing wide was great today. Despite her lack of pace, she was a torn in the flesh for the Canadian defence, and gave us our only shot on target. She was less effective in the second half cause Randy switched her position for Ordega to probably accommodate Ordega and of course it didn't work.

7. Osinachi Ohale put her entire body to work today. There was nothing else to give. She marshalled that defense like a general. Kudos to her.

8. Toni Payne is a fantastic player. A forward runs today eased pressure on our defence significantly. Something worth nothing also is that she's significantly improved our chances from scoring in set piece situations. She probably played all of our set pieces and not once did she fumble. I see is scoring from one of these situations in the next 2 games.

9. Ashleigh Plumtre had a good game, considering she was again played out of position. She obviously didn't fulfill a key full back role of helping launch attacks, but she was solid defensively. Canada rarely explored her wing as she was solid, Alozie's was were the deficiency was primarily.

10. Chiamaka Nnadozie. Nigeria's best goalkeeper both male and female. God bless whoever discovered her. Won't say much, being recognised as player of the match says it all.

11. Francisca Ordega should please sir out the next game. Yes she helped Alozie a couple of times defensively, but she failed in her primary role of launching the counter. She was moot offensively. When Asisat made that run, got past the goalkeeper and made the rash decision to attempt scoring, Ordega didn't help the situation as she was mostly watching and only started making a run after Asisat got past the goalkeeper. I've said here repeatedly that she isn't the same player anymore. The earlier we move on from.her the better.

12. Randy Waldrum. I'm not a fan, but he planned and executed today. That's what coaches do. You may not like the way the team played, but the fact that he got them to play how he wanted and they executed says a lot. Also big balls to have started Abiodun, the gamble worked. Kudos to him.

First ever WWC game for most of these ladies.
Nerves, jitters, etc.

After the match, and after watching match video, the faults and kinks will be highlighted and worked on.
daveP:
We didn't have the personnel to press their weak defenders and at least a midfielder that will be winning fouls in threatening areas. By 2nd half he should have brought in Esther and Kanu to win this game. Oshoala and Onumonu don't have the energy to press. We need to use that approach cos that's the modern style. Glad our defence stood up and our Gk with WOTM performance. Going forward, my eyes are on Alozie. She will win tackle but cause double trouble for herself and everyone deep in our half. Haba.
