Short Story
I applied for my student visa as a single in October 2018. The visa decision took so long that I had moved on from it and continue with my life in Nigeria. I got married and gbam - Student visa grant in April 2019

I arrived in Australia in July 2019.
September 2019 - Notified IMMI about my new marital status.

November 5, 2019 - Reapplied for my student Visa (with my wife inclusive this time). Wrote to immigration to assess me again based on the new information.

November 6, 2019 - Bridging VISA issued

January 6, 2020 - IMMI request for me to redo my medical (Done the same week)

May 7, 2020 - IMMI request for wife’s Polio Vaccination (Submitted the same day)

June 23, 2020 - IMMI request for extension of the Couple Insurance (Submitted the same day)

August 14, 2020 - Visa Grant (I and Wife)

Since the person is not in Lagos and doesn't want to travel twice. Modify(ignore the hap id generated) the medical health option in your application so that the applicant can do both at the same time after submission. You can schedule the medical in the morning and move to Etiebet's place Ikeja same day after medical in Ikeja or VI. Biometrics details and Hap ID will be available in your account immediately after visa submission.

Hap ID won't generate that easily after submission. Book medicals, select a suitable date, submit, and you will IMMEDIATELY get notification to do Biometrics.
Book into do biometrics similarly.


Once you submit before medicals, you may wait for a case officer to request and send you a HAP ID before you can do medicals.

Processing times are dependent on a number of different factors including:


Whether you have provided all necessary supporting documents when you lodge an application

How well and how promptly you respond to requests for additional information

How long it takes to complete any required checks on information you have provided to support your application

How long it takes to receive additional information from areas outside the department - particularly in relation to health, character and national security.

How many places are available in the Migration Programme.

A decision to grant or refuse your visa application may be made based on the information and documentation that you provide at the time of lodgement.

Answers to those questions will determine how long it may take to process your application.

If you have all the documents / requirements for school and immigration respectively and are willing to throw away $$$ on student fees then you are good to go.

As far as I know, no.

You must share a surname and show evidence via eg. Birth certificate, etc.
Don't complicate your application with strange statements of accounts.

Can one be denied Visa if the person didn't go for biometrics? I applied for a conference visa through an Agent to Asia last year but didn't go for any biometrics, and didn't get the grant as well. I'm scared if really the agent applied for the visa and I was denied as I'm about applying for my Visa to Aussie.

Does the country requires your passport to process a visa like UK, if they do, your passport must have been stamped. If not there should be an email. If not as well, use your discretion.

My friend was in a similar dilemma. He had only being defrauded by the agent and did not apply let alone refused a visa. He used his discretion, and hence did not declare it. Because declaring what you did not even apply for na another talk.

But be sure the country requires Biometrics. I don't want you to make your decision solely based on no biometrics.

It's good to be back here. I have tried to catch up on recent happenings. Appreciation goes to my folks that have tried to answer questions on here.
I will be touching on a very unpopular area on this thread.

Summary: I have just graduated from Macquarie for my research masters. Declined a PhD offer and scholarship from RMIT (The director tried to convince me for one hour on call, at that point, I started to feel like a superstar) and went with Deakin because the scholarship offered by Deakin covers for Multi Family OSHC, Relocation allowance and Conference travel together with the normal tuition and living stipends offered normally. Other reasons are prospect of job, the enthusiasm and personality of Deakin supervisor over RMIT (before keyboard warriors go start to dey advise me. Lols).

Kudos to Daddybomboy, who tried to share a template on how to get the attention of a supervisor. Let me share another tip. Remember that everyone likes to be identified with and like to be valued. Showing interest in the professors past work and speaking from that perspective is a proven, tested and trusted way of catching his or her attention. For instance, immediately sharing how your research interest overlap theirs sparks their interest and showed the homework you have done.

Back to my story: I had my family visa refused as Subsequent entrant last August, I was patient enough to secure CoE and Multifamily OSHC policy (which cost 17600AUD for more than two people for PhD). My best best now is to apply as the primary applicant and put my family as dependent.

Another morale of my story: if you get a refusal, don't be in a hurry to reapply if you cannot address the reason for refusal. Make sure you are able to address those aforementioned challenges before going ahead or you will be met with another rejection.

Finally, Most of the times, I feel like my case is a very rare one for many reasons. Maybe people should start looking into it. I will explain, not a lot of people do the masters by Research I did, which is a one year full scholarship pathway programme at Macquarie or stand-alone course if you have no intention of doing a PhD. If you have a masters and excelled in it from Nigeria, you can look into this route as an escape route from Nigeria. Its a win-win situation, you don't have to pay tuition, you get stipends, another MSc in the bag and can progress into PhD seamlessly. I got my PhD scholarships because I started a project in my research masters that coincided with some projects underway at RMIT and Deakin, so I could speak the language effectively.

YOU WILL HARDLY GET PHD OFFERS STRAIGHT FROM NIGERIA MOST TIMES BECAUSE THERE IS A GAP IN RESEARCH EMBARKMENT BETWEEN NIGERIA AND AUSTRALIA. FIND A WAY IN BY THIS NEW PATHWAYS AND THE REST WILL BE HISTORY. I don't know if I am making any sense. Let me just drop my mic.

Long story short: if you made a first class or a very strong 2.1, have good academic references, one or two peer-reviewed publication, good employment, strong commitment to develop yourself, (in this case, taking it to mean leave Nigeria for Now, Keyboard warriors, take note). You can get a MRes or PhD scholarship and getting visa to Australia. It is black and white, no hidden agenda with this people. Since I nor gree drop mic, the battery don low by himself. Bye

Well, it's called dependent, and it can only be considered when the primary visa holder/applicant is genuinely your spouse or parent. Students can add their spouses/children.

I met another agent who informed me that my documents an profile are very good, that I should go for a higher like RMIT and Deakin. But am concern if such school will give me admission if I tell them i had a previous visa denial in February or do i conceal the information to the school and only inform the Embassy? I do not think they will ask you. And if they do, tell them the truth. They will always find out anyway.

Hello gurus in the house, Pls i need your candid advice on this issue. I am a phd student in Australia and i started my course some few months back. I am married but came alone without my husband with the hope of putting up a subsequent entrant visa as soon as i am settled. However, when I came here I got to know that its not easy as i tot. I got to know of some people (basically Indians) that have put up this same visa and those getting grants at the moment applied late august 2018 while refusal rate is about less say 20-30%. Anyway I approached a very reliable agent here in australia that has high success rate and asked him if i can put up a subsequent entrant for my spouse and his advice was: I might end up waiting for up to 6,7,8 months or even 1year. He advice i put up a visitor visa that if after they lodge it for me and he is granted that they will put up subsequent entrant here if he does not have no further stay condition . That he will be on a bridging visa here in Aussie until the outcome of his subsequent entrant. Tho he also made me to understand that he cant work while on visitor and bridging visa.


My question to the house pls: do you know of anyone that has gone through similar route?
Is the processing time for subsequent entrant different for different countries lets say india or nigeria

Everything the agent said is peculiar to INDIAN VISA PROCESSORS.

Nigeria's go to South Africa, I think it may be possible to process in Australia though.

The last person who reported his success here got it in 6 months. Flip back and check for Leo's post. Yes it's being taking a long time, but it isn't as scary as the Indians and may it never be.

One of the justifiable reasons for Indians case is that Indians have one of the highest population of Intl students in AU, unlike Naija.

They've also stated that they will help me get scholarship (tuition and stipend).

Now I'm targeting the RTP scholarship which comes with OSHC for family (I have a wife and one son).

My question now is, if by God's grace I'm successful in securing the RTP stipend scholarship and OSHC for family, do I need to provide any other financial document to support my visa application?

Is there anyone on this forum who has been successful in securing an RTP scholarship and OSHC for family (or couple)? How was the visa application process like?

You don't need a huge financial statement for yourself, but you must show about 3,000 AUD FOR your flight, 7200 for your wife, 3500 thereabout for your daughter. 6000 aud for their flight, Evidence that your daughter is enrolled in a primary school here before you come.

Just use google. Search for bringing your family to Australia as a student.

It's tiring to keep to replying similar questions all the time.

Do you have strong proof they have been dependent on you all along?

In my opinion, they don't really pass as your dependent if any of your parent is still alive.

Hello guys. Trust y’all doing great! I’m slightly worried for my GAP years and I need honest opinions. As we all know the difficulty in getting jobs with the present economy. I haven’t had a stable job since I graduated uni in 2013. Just some normal jobs here and there to support. Also freelance jobs and volunteer work. Can this work for a student visa application? I learnt that you have to provide substantial proof to cover up for your gap years like employment letter, pay slips, financial statement showing salary payment etc. but these documents are almost impossible because like I mentioned I haven’t had a stable job since after uni. What are the chances of getting a study grant? Do you know some key documents you think I can produce to help get me through my gap years? Does NYSC cut it? I’ll be grateful if I can get more detailed help in regards to GAP years in applying for student visa

The question is, is your partner coming along at the same time, have they been included in your application? Did you do OSHC that covers for them? Does your financial evidence shows about 10,300 aud to cover for them?

You are definitely going to show 7,300 AUD thereabout if she is following you. In my opinion the evidence of support is the financial statement. Mention that whichever of your parents who has tendered their statement will support your partners stay financially. E.g. My father has agreed to sponsor Rendy, with his financial statement reflecting this. This is the common tradition.

International student is an industry. They want you to bring your foreign earned money to their country. If you let them think you ll make money from their economy, it defies their whole plan.

Very few organisations will be willing to give you their CAC reg. You can scan your ID card, offer of employment? Does your organization have a functional website, do they have a segment on it for 'our people' or 'our staff'? Do you appear on it?

Did you include the name of your boss or contact person from work? How recognised is the organization

Sincerely, I didn't add CAC to my application. But it's been 2 years I was there, so I can't tell. I appear on our website, scanned my ID. And my workplace has a good website.

I did my medicals at Fatayi Williams clinic where I got an oral polio vaccination and was given a code which they asked me to send via email to Australia immigration. My thought was that this should stand in for the yellow card. Hence, I do not need to present the yellow card at the Point of entry.

You have done it niyen na. Yellow card documents your oral vaccination. It would have been documented in a yellow book, hence the name.

You did it alongside your other health examination.

You should be good to go.

If you submitted your application without it, they will probably demand it from you later, if they are patient enough. The best thing is to go and do it and attach it to your application as soon as possible while it is being assessed. I added my English test a bit later, when we decided I better do it. You have the opportunity to add further documents even after application.

Yes, it will be demanded at the Australia's port of entry, they won't let you in WITHOUT IT.

Any idea about their metro system and if it’s functional. @bligs adviced same, but in his further explanation, he mentioned some things that are also important, like metro, diverse job opportunity and all that. This are factors that are very important too, MSc IT in QUT is in Brisbane, which is part of the cities with opportunity, so now it leads me back to the doing lot of thinking again, cos both got their own advantages n disad. But functional metro system is a big factor for a fresher in a country. U can’t just buy a car immediately. You need to know lots about the routes and road system. Metro saved my trip to France, Paris metro system is wonderful that, there is a station that’s just some few minutes walk to your house. Same experience in India and other countries. Functional metro is a big factor for me. Uber for short distance can cost as much as 30-40 euro. That shit can be crazy. A weekly or monthly metro/bus pass is always a saver for someone in a foreign land.

You will prioritize between metro and PR then.
