fanficgirl: As you might know the royal family claims solomonic dynasty so they do consider themselves to be different from the negro stock(Hamito-Semitic as you mentioned), but they never questioned their black african identity. I mean we pride ourselves to be "The black lions" who defeated the white fascists. If you were in Addis you would see that most of older facilities such as school,hospitals...are named "tikur anbessa" (black lion) The thing about Ethiopia is,if you randomly ask a person what his race (zer) is,he will identify with his specific tribe. If you ask if he is black he might say no i am keyh(light skinned),teyim (brown skinned) .Skin color isn't mostly a criteria for determining our tribes here exept for the few southern tribes which makeup small portion of the population. 1 Like |

Hati13: I know right!sometimes when i see the chain of dark skinned africans bleaching to look lighter, lighter skinned ones claiming Arabian ancestry (HOA comes here),Arabs claiming south European, south European claiming north European....I wonder if Hitler's ideal beauty of Nordic-Aryan phenotype had survived through the western media |

why does everyone chose to show off the lighter skinned ladies?Does it mean being dark skinned is ugly? |

TayserMahiri: Lol it's not like we live in the past.We just use our own calendar system which happen to be few years behind the European one.For example is a person is born on Sept.11 2000 G.C our calendar will read meskerem 1,1993.Now its April 27 2017 G.C and Miyazia 19 2009 There will be no difference in counting the age. |

9jakool: Our mixed ancestry isn't that complicated,I mean people from both side of the red sea have been trading and moving for centuries there were many Yemenite descendants that control the Ethiopian trading markets before they moved out and the Gurage people took over.In Eritrea the rashaida people are ethnic Arabs that recently entered the land https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashaida_people so mixing is normal. But not through slave trade like some people say! |

Hati13: No bro the inhabitants of ancient Axum were vast and include most of the present nations of Ethiopia.Did you know the ruling families of the wolaytan dynasty claim Tigrian ancestry? And have you read about the famous Hadiya princess who saved the Christian kingdom through marriage alliance with the north? Evidence for the vast kingdom and diversity of Axumite inhabitants was written by Cosmos in "Christian Topography " ክርስቲያን ቶፖግራፊ በተሰኘው የኮስሞስ መጽሐፍ ውስጥ በአዱሊስ ያገኘውንየካሌብ የድንጋይ ጽሑፍ አኑሮልናል፡፡ በዚያን ጊዜዋ ኢትዮጵያ የተገለጡት ሕዝቦች ጋዜ፣ አጋሜ፣ ሲጊን፣አቫ፣ ዚጋሪን፣ አጋቬ፣ ቲያማ፣ አታጋውስ(አገዎች)፣ ካላ፣ ሰሜን፣ ላዚን፣ ዚአ፣ ጋቫላ፣ አታልሞ፣ ቤጃ፣ ››የሚባሉ ሕዝቦች ናቸው፡፡ further info on Medvial Christian states that had close ties with the north. http://www.persee.fr/doc/ethio_0066-2127_2009_num_24_1_1394 p.s I am also from an Amhara and Tigrian family, that support Menelik |

Hati13: Hello.Fellow ethio negne. Just to correct you 1.There was already Christianity in the south before Menilik's conquest.(There are ancient monasteries in Gurage region ) 2.Menilik set out to unify old Ethiopian kingdom's that were cut off from the north by Muslim invaders and Oromo expansion and had no intentions for the countries you mentioned .Remember Axum once ruled a vast empire stretching from the horn to southern Arabia. |
