Hello guys, I'm back here with the rest of the narration I promised you guys day before yesterday. Sorry, I promised to update y'all yesterday but I was too tired from the days bustle. For those who did not catch up with the first post, here's the link https://www.nairaland.com/6950646/kid-brother-going-mad. So, after the incident that my kid bro slapped me un-provokingly and the subsequent wrestle between me and him, we succeeded in tying him down with rope, with the help of a neighbor. It broke my heart to tie my kid bro like cow waiting for slaughter with my own hands, but we got to do it because he posed to be dangerous for everyone around. tying him down was a hard decision to make but it was a smart and safe one. We couldn't sleep well in the house, there was a mixture of sadness, confusion, fear and a long howling silence in the atmosphere. The following day, I woke up, my mum was already out trying to find help from every possible way she could find. I called my sisters (some live outside the state we reside, so the conversation was on the phone) and I told them of my intent to go to a specialist hospital somewhere in the city we reside and enquire about a psychiatric doctor, then book an appointment and come back to take him to the hospital. We all agreed on that. I went out, visited IBB specialist hospital in the city I live and I was referred to a social rehabilitation center in the same city. At the social rehabilitation center, I was told that they rehabilitate drug addicts and also treat mentally ill patients who their cases were as a result of drug abuse and it's the same doctors from IBB specialist hospital that go down to the institution and treat the patients. I zoomed off to the social rehabilitation center, fortunately for me, there weren't much people around, so, I was directed to a consultation room where I can speak to the staffs around. I narrated my brothers situation to them and they advised me to register him in the institution for treatment as soon as possible. However, they told me that, there are two possible way they can administer treatment to him; The first is the indoor treatment and the second is the outdoor treatment (according to them). The indoor treatment entails that we bring him for admission in the institute for treatment for a stipulated period of three months at the rate of 180 thousand naira to be paid before admission and be paid at a single go, not on instalments (their payment policy), whereas, the outdoor treatment entails us bringing him to them, he'll be tested, given injections and drugs and then we take him back home (they didn't recommend that because he's a threat to the people around him). I called my sisters and mum and we all agreed on outdoor treatment for the time being due to limited funds. Personally, I had little less than 10k in my account, the rest of the family members are all exhausted because a lot had been spent since the inception of his sluggish symptoms, and the uncles and aunts are basically useless, they are not the types that renders help, they rather take than give so, we didn't even approach them for help. I had to sell my phone that day to raise the money and paid for the outdoor treatment (I'm currently using my PC and modem to connect to y'all). Meanwhile, he (my kid bro) is back at home, tied up and is shouting that he is seeing things, he went on and on till he became unresponsive to communication, he was completely out of his mind. I had to beg the doctor to help come sedate him at home, so that we can take him to the institution for the follow up process. The doctor agreed to follow us (had to fuel his car sha) and he came home, administered four injections to him, gave us some drugs, took some blood samples and told us not to worry about taking him back to the institution for the follow up process that day, that what he just did is the same thing they'll do at the institution. He did told me to follow up the test results the following day though. I followed up, and yes, they diagnosed my kid bro as a mentally ill person but they advised we bring him to the institution for further scans and check ups after a month. After the injections, he slept for two days, he only wakes up to eat food and take drugs and he's back to sleep, he became very weak and doesn't have to strength to even lift himself up. Three days later, she showed little signs of improvement but did attempt to strangle a six month old niece of ours while she was on the bed sleeping (she and her mum visited and stayed to help take care of him), with that, we tied him up again. Now, my kid bro is fully on medication but the healing progress is very slow. The other day, he slapped my mum while she was feeding him, he still sees things and sometimes attempt to run away. other times, he seemed to progress, he'll sit and even gist with us (while in ropes o), sometimes he even gets emotional and begin asking us for forgiveness for what he's making us pass through at the moment, he will even tell us to tie him so that he doesn't do damage. I'm worried because when he seems to take a step progressively, he'll take two steps backward. I'm trying to put up the funds for the indoor treatment, I feel the professionals there will monitor his treatments more effectively, but things are very hard down here, these couple of months have are the most challenging for me and my family. Let me stop here, I'll come back here with updates of the progress. Thank you for all the advices you gave me on the other post, I really appreciate them. One love! |
GogetterMD:I did try, but all I got is that he did marijuana and cigarrettes. I still have my suspicions though and he's not in the right state of mind to come clean about that right now |
ValCon888:Wow! you seemed to have figured it all out from there. Although, I can categorically tell you that Mkpu mmiri is not that much on the streets down here and codeine is too expensive for him to afford and arresting the boys and the supplier? none of em forced my kid bro in to smoking, he willing joined them. All we can do about the bad company is to try and cut him off from them which we successfully did. As for arizona and colorado, I don't know much about, I only knew ge did marijuana. You should try investigative journalism though, your sense of imaginations can do you wonders in that field. Anyways, thanks for your submission. Appreciations. |
Uyi168:I thought so too. I don't smoke, but I've heard cannabis doesn't make someone get mentally deranged. I had my doubts too, I did my investigations and the friends he followed all said he only did marijuana and cigarettes. I'm very confused as it is now. |
daddytime:Well, I'm not so sure about getting him back on marijuana, however, I do believe the medical route will be safer. Anyways, Thanks for ur advice. |
Amotolongbo:Thanks for the advice. I am one of those who believe in the medical science too. psychiatric hospital is all I think of right now. I'll update the story later for more insight of the situation. |
doggedfighter:Thanks for the advice doggedfighter. Although I believe in the existence of God, I am no overly a religious extremist nor diabolic in nature. However, seeing my kid bro in the condition he is now made me to open up to every possible way we could help him. I didn't quite finish up the story yesterday so, I didn't get to tell you guys how I took him to a government owned mental institution in the city where I reside. Bottom line is, I did tried to get him medical help from a mental institution. He's on medication now but there are still traces of the symptoms. I'll update the story later so that youll get a clearer narration of the situation......Thank you once again for the advice. |
Hello NL family, I am a frequent visitor of this platform, however, this is my first post as a member here. Apologies in advance for any grammatical construction or typographic errors, I am one out of the many imperfect human alive. Without wasting much of your time, I'll dive straight in to the intended purpose for this post. My younger brother who should be 23 years of age in may this year is mentally ill. The problems started around June last year when he started quarrelling and attempting to fight with my sisters who happen to be his senior siblings. I wasn't at home as at then but according to my mum and sisters narration, he did insulted and even attempted to fight them to the extent they called some of their friends in the police force to come and arrest and discipline him. He eventually came and begged for their forgiveness later on. This is a young lad who is very humble and respectful. Let me not forget to mention that he did followed some bad company and started smoking weed and cigarettes, I spoke to him and did warn him about the effects of drugs severally, I did the big brother-small brother talks with him, he didn't stop, I scolded him, still didn't stop, until the last altercation he got with my sisters and mum that I got so pissed that I told him we'll all cut him off if he doesn't stop the bad habits. Fast forward to October last year, he withdrew from drugs (Indian hemp and cigarettes which was the only substance he did according to him when I spoke to him about drugs n all) and started learning fashion design as a vocational skill. Later on, he started exhibiting some abnormal symptoms and started behaving very slow both physically and mentally, too sluggish for a vibrant sporty young man, then he started skipping and forgetting things. It got so worst that when you you give him 50 naira to go get sugar and Lipton for you, he'll forget one and buy the other for you. We all thought the behaviors were more of a withdrawal symptom from smoking, but the symptom persisted. That's when we all started to get worried and began finding solutions to the problems. Meanwhile, for the majority of the time, I was in school, writing my final year project up until October. We started seeking for both spiritual and medical help, although, he wasn't crazy crazy in particular but we feared for the worst and started to act on time. Things went on slowly particularly because of the economy and I particularly wasn't doing too well financially, I just got fresh out of school and hasn't gotten my foot down. Fast forward to last week, he had a slight altercation with our nephew and boom, the worst came! He started hitting the wall and tree in the compound that he must beat the boy, then I was getting ready to go for my regular evening exercise (football) thus I saw it all but never thought he has actually gone mad at that point. I quickly warned our nephew n told him to step out of the house to cool things down, then spoke with my kid bro and calmed him till I was sure the situation is calm then I went to the field. After the game, I came home and that's when my mum told me that he went completely ballistic and even beat the shii out of her, the neighbors had to come and rescue her, and that he did realized he did wrong and came on knees and apologized. She told me all this while he was there listening to us. I was dumbfounded and confused, all my thoughts was how did it got to that point. I stood up to get water from the drum to bath, that's when my kid bro who is actually tall and huge slapped me from behind un-provokingly. We started to wrestle and struggle while he kept murmuring and saying things I don't understand. We had to use rope and tie him down that evening till the following day. He kept shouting and saying things, started seeing things. I was very confused, moody, didn't know what to do or what to say, I just knew my kid bro is mentally ill and was struggling to accept the glaring reality. Let me stop here, I'll update ya'll with the rest of the story tomorrow. Please mods, push this to the front page, i would very much love to hear some opinions and advice when I update the rest of the story tomorrow. Thank you and have a wonderful night sleep. |
gistmega:Wise one! Family is one of the most important social institutions anywhere in the world. The fate of an entire nation begins from the family settings. Good family upbringing will likely breed desciplined social pace setters..... Protecting your family from today's immorality is one of the best decision one can take in his entire life span!
