An Abuja High Court has again reaffirmed the bail granted former National Security Adviseer, Colonel Sambi Dasuki and five others in the arm deal trial involving $2.1bn. Justice Baba Yusuf reaffirmed the bail on Dasuki on the ground that he was entitled to it and having being admitted to same since 2015 when the federal government brought criminal charges against him.

Dasuki and five others were re-arraigned before Justice Baba Yusuf on the criminal charges that was transferred from Justice Peter Affen of the FCT High Court to the new court. However after the 22 count charges were read to the six defendants and all pleaded not guilty, counsel to Dasuki, Mr. Ahmed Raji applied to the court to reaffirm the bail granted to the ex-NSA even though he has not been allowed to enjoy same since December 2015.

Muhammadu Buhari, are you alive? Simple question.

Or maybe you are as alive as Yar'adua was when he was asked that question by OBJ.

If you are alive sir, remove the hand you used to cover your right jaw in the picture, face the camera frontally and give us a live speech on television to dispel the rumour of a cancer of the jaw.

We won't tolerate another Yaradua saga!

May his soul rest in peace! All civil rights groups should start arranging for a major protest March demanding the smooth handover of power to the vice President!

Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, yesterday lashed out at the Presidency saying they should stop lying to Nigerians over the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari. He also said Nigerians cannot afford to have another constitutional crises due to Mr. Presidents health. The Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu had attacked Mohammed on Monday saying he is suffering from pathological cynicism.

According to Shehu, “Mohammed’s kind of critics is toxic to national progress because they are only primarily interested in destroying every positive effort and achievements of the government and we advise Nigerians to be wary of prejudiced and biased critics like Dr. Junaid Mohammed who are more interested in personal publicity than respecting facts and figures about their claims”.

But reacting to Sheu’s statement, Mohammed said the Presidential spokesperson should stop telling Nigerians lies about his health just as he maintained that General Sanni Abacha remains one of the healthiest President Nigeria ever had.

The Nigerian Navy warship, NNS UNITY, on Sunday, arrived at Dakar Sea Port to carry out the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) mandate of restoring democracy in Gambia. The Chief of Training/Operations, Defence Headquarters, Maj.-Gen. Ahmed Muhammed, received the ship on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin.

Earlier, the Force Commander, Operation Restore Democracy in Gambia, Air Commodore, Tajudeen Yusuf, told journalists that the next operation, after the arrival of the troops into Gambia, was to get the president Adama Barrow into the country. *Nigerian navy ship According to him, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully conducted an aerial surveillance over Gambia. “The ground troops have already moved into the Gambian territory, and no opposition was met. It was a peaceful movement and we were welcomed by members of the armed forces of the Gambia.

“The aim of this was to secure some key and vulnerable points, in the Gambian territory so as to create peaceful passage for the president to move in and for us to stabilize the country and eventually for its democracy to continue to thrive,’’ Yusuf said. He explained the war ship, which arrived on Sunday, would be incorporated immediately into the ongoing operations. He said troops would soften their operations for now, but would be on alert to tackle any challenge that would come up.

“The former president has ruled the country for 22 years, he still has his loyalists within the armed forces and the country in general, and we cannot afford to be careless with the new president. “We still have to do a lot of stabilization to ensure that there is peace and that he is in charge of the country before we can finally bow out,’’ he said.

ABUJA-Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has said that he doesn’t want to resign his appointment on the account of any eventuality that may occur if the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport is not closed down for repairs.

The Minister was responding to the concerns raised by the President of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Frank Udenba-Jacobs, who made a presentation on behalf of the Organised Private Sector (OPS) at the Second Presidential Business Forum, presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.

The Forum provides a platform to engage and interact with the private sector to inform about the government’s policies, programmes and activities. Ameachi said that the gear of an aircraft belonging to a foreign airline has damaged by the airport tarmac, saying that it was originally meant to last for 20 years but has lasted for 34 years now. He insisted on the closure of the airport to effect the repairs for good of Nigerians.

“We are not going back on closure of Abuja airport. I understand that ‎Lufthansa landed and damaged their gear and has been here for three days. The runaway was built to last for 20 years but it has been in use now for 34 years. “We cannot do it only at night. We don’t want to loose anybody. We are not repairing but re-building. If anything happens you will ask us to resign and we don’t want to resign”, he said.

Politics › Allow Fulani Herdsmen Return, Vengeance Belongs To God – Ortom Begs Agatu People by alcmene(op): 12:28pm On Jan 20, 2017
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has urged the people of Agatu to give peace a chance and cohabit with indigenous Fulani herdsmen, as was the case in the past.

The governor made the call during his visit alongside his Nasarawa State counterpart, Tanko Umaru Al-Makura, to Agatu local government area on Wednesday and was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tahav Agerzua.

Both governors were in Obagaji for a peace meeting aimed at finding a lasting solution to the crisis in the area.

Speaking , Ortom lamented what he described as the massive and unprecedented destruction of Agatu and killings by herdsmen but stressed that there was no alternative to peace for development and progress to take place.

The governor appealed to the Agatu people to forgive and allow the Fulanis who were born in the land to return, stressing that the Bible admonishes that vengeance belongs to God.

Ortom reiterated his earlier stance that ranching remains the best approach to ending farmers and herdsmen crises across the country.

The Chairman of Miyetti Allah in Nasarawa State, Mohammed Hussein, while speaking on behalf of the Fulani people, appealed for forgiveness.

Hussein promised that his people would abide by the resolutions taken by the security councils to ensure peace returns to the area.

The Agatu people have been involved in communal dispute with Fulani herdsmen, an incident that has resulted in the death of several people.

Politics › Buhari Has Put Over 160m Nigerians Under Captivity – Arewa Youth Leader by alcmene(op): 5:42pm On Jan 19, 2017
President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Shettima Yerima, has stated that the current government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has put over 160 million Nigerians under captivity.
Yerima, who described the ongoing anti-corruption crusade championed by the current administration as a pure witch-hunt, said Buhari was only using the campaign to punish his political rivals.

Speaking with Sun, the northern youth leader noted that northerners were only good at grabbing power but don’t use it to develop their region.
He said, “It is so sad that Nigeria is undergoing so much crises and challenges, despite our struggles and sacrifices in fighting against dictatorship and enthronement of democracy.

“We were in the trenches fighting for democracy but unfortunately, opportunists took over the process of governance. Most of them didn’t make any sacrifice, and that is why they don’t feel any pain in the way things are going on in this country.
“Those who made the sacrifices were left with nothing, and that is why the over 160 million Nigerians are under captivity.

“One would have expected that with the collective efforts of Nigerians to bring about a new ruling party; to ensure that an opposition party took over from a ruling party that was in power for many years, by now Nigerians would have started smiling, experiencing change and breathing fresh air, but it has not been so. The situation seems to be worse than we had imagined.”

enator representing Enugu, Chukwuka Utazi said President Muhammadu Buhari went out of line by sending Nigerian troops to Gambia.

Utazi, who stated this on Wednesday at plenary said Buhari acted against the constitution by not seeking approval from the National Assembly.

Raising a constitutional point of order, Utazi said what the Buhari-led government did was against the law, citing Section 5 (4) of the Constitution.

Section 5(4) states, “(a) the President shall not declare a state of war between the federation and another country except with the sanction of a resolution of both houses of the National Assembly sitting in a joint session; and (b) except with the prior approval of the senate, no member of the armed forces of the federation shall be deployed on combat duty outside Nigeria.”

He added, “I am saying this because of the happenings in our friendly country in Gambia. The ECOWAS countries have been discussing on this issue; on how to ensure that democratic crisis of the people of Gambia are protected. But to ask that this country will go on a warfare in another country without a recourse to this constitutional provisions is an affront of the 1999 Constitution and it is a breach of the Constitution, and we have failed even when the Senate has been cooperating with the executive.

“Let it be on record that if anything of this nature happens in this country; that this national assembly have to be informed properly in writing.”

It will be recalled that on Wednesday Nigeria sent 200 troops to Senegal as part of an ECOWAS team to kick out Yayha Jammeh. Nigeria’s warship NNS Unity also left for Gambia from Lagos on Tuesday.

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has said that he has fulfilled his promise to “cut” his green card (permanent resident’s card in the U.S.) and “start packing up” if the then, Republican Candidate, Donald Trump wins the election.

Soyinka in an interview with The Atlantic on Tuesday, said that he had made his green card “inoperable”.

“I don’t have strong enough fingers to tear up a green card. As long as Trump is in charge, if I absolutely have to visit the United States, I prefer to go in the queue for a regular visa with others. I’m no longer part of the society, not even as a resident,” Soyinka said.

“I delivered myself from uncertainty, from discomfort, from internal turmoil,” the veteran writer said.

He had said, after Trump emerged winner in November 2016, that he was bidding his time until Trump is inaugurated.

“Why don’t we wait until Trump actually takes office? I’m just going about my normal commitments, but definitely not getting into any more commitments. Let’s put it that way for now,” Soyinka had said.

He also announced in December that he “threw away” the card.

Soyinka recently told The Interview magazine that “Trump’s wall is already under construction.” “Walls are built in the mind, and Trump has erected walls, not only across the mental landscape of America, but across the global landscape,” Soyinka had said.

Soyinka said his decision is a “personal” and “private” one, and “no one else is invited.”
