EducationRe: 10 Hidden Facts About The Bible by Alexbrain(m): 8:12pm On Jun 23, 2017
These are list of things You don't know about the Bible. Keep reading.......
1. Jesus wasn’t really a carpenter.
The Greek word used occasionally to describe Jesus’ profession is
tekton , which means something closer to a generic term for “craftsman.” Jesus could’ve built ships, made ploughs or did some sort of plumbing work. Here’s more on how the carpenter tradition developed.
(Re: In the common Painting of Jesus Christ and Joseph working side by side, he also probably didn’t wear a modern kippah and look like Zac Efron.
2. Jonah wasn’t eaten by a whale .
The Bible says only that he was swallowed by a “large fish.” (Whales, of course, are mammals.
3. Judas betrayed Jesus for the equivalent of four months’ pay today.
Matthew 26 states that Judas sold Jesus for “thirty pieces of silver.” Assuming these are the standard coins worth four drachmas each, the total would add up to about $6,000 today, that's about a whopping 2.3 million naira.
4. Hell in terms of “fire and brimstone and eternal damnation of souls” isn’t precisely mentioned in the Bible. Most of those images originate from medieval works like Dante’s.
The concept of an underworld in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament is limited to sheol, which is described only as a place of darkness where all people, righteous and unrighteous, go after death.
In the New Testament, the destiny of the wicked is Gehenna , a different place altogether of sheol. Gehenna was literally the location of a trash dump in the Valley of Hinnom outside Jersualem. Later, the book of Revelation refers to a “lake of fire.” Some Christians interpret Jesus’ use of gehenna as a symbol for a place of eternal condemnation of the soul. The KJV translates both sheol and gehenna as hell.
5. In the book of Genesis , Methuselah lives to be 969 years old.
A lot of people in the Old Testament lived ridiculously long lives: Noah is described as living to be 950, Adam (as in THE Adam) dies at about 930 , and Abraham lived to 175.
People who favor a more literal reading of the Bible argue that this was actually possible, due to antediluvian Earth having a healthier atmosphere and less diluted gene pool, unlike today in which the whole atmosphere is far contaminated.
6. Some books of the Bible mention unicorns .
The Hebrew word reym is often now translated as “wild ox,” but in the 1611 King James Bible it appeared in English as “unicorn.” Reym was first translated into Greek as monokeros, which means “one horn.”
Some people think the word reym actually refers to rhinoceri.
7. Most scholars believe Paul didn’t write many of the books that claim to be authored by him.
A majority of biblical scholars agree Paul that didn’t actually write Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy or the Pastoral Epistles (Timothy and Titus.) Romans, Galatians, 1 & 2 Corinthians, 1 Thessalonians, Philippians, and Philemon are considered to be authentically Pauline. (The practice of writing letters in someone else’s name was a common practice in antiquity, particularly within the Hebrew Bible tradition.
8.Solomon had 700 wives, 300 concubines, and 12,000 horses.
9. In the Bible, Adam was not banished from Eden for eating the fruit of knowledge. Instead, he is banished in case he eats the fruit of another forbidden tree, which will make him immortal.
10. Don't forget to share this with your friends and family

Benita27:
What has gender equality got to do with promiscuity?. For the fact that you think if a lady is wayward, sagged breast and wide vagina will be evident makes your write-up pathetic. Does a lady need to be wayward to have a sagged breast?. Are you also saying it's ok for a guy to mess himself up but if a lady does it's a crime?.

You mustn't create threads over anything you had the urge to. Some are senseless like this one.
This is the first make sense post here. Thanks for that.

James Cameron Dives to Bottom of the Pacific
In 1997 James Cameron famously sent the RMS Titanic to the ocean floor. Now he has made an even deeper trip himself: in a submersible called the Deepsea Challenger, he descended to the bottom of the Mariana Trench -- seven miles beneath the western Pacific Ocean, deeper than Mt. Everest is high.

And he lived to tell about it. Today, on a conference call to reporters from the research vessel Mermaid Sapphire, he enthused about the mystery and adventure of being all alone in the darkness, 35,576 feet beneath the surface of the sea.

"I just sat there looking out the window, looking at this barren, desolate lunar plain, appreciating," Cameron said.

Click Here for Pictures: James Cameron's Dive

"There had to be a moment where I just stopped, and took it in, and said, 'This is where I am. I'm at the bottom of the ocean, the deepest place on Earth. What does that mean?'"

Cameron, with backing from the National Geographic Society, spent about three hours in a barren spot called Challenger Deep, south of the island of Guam, the deepest-known part of any ocean in the world. He shot video, some in 3-D, and tried to take samples of life forms and rocks, but his sub's robot arm failed because of what National Geographic said was a hydraulic fluid leak.

In the perpetual darkness, Cameron conceded there was not much to see. The temperature outside the Deepsea Challenger was around 36 degrees Fahrenheit, and the pressure outside his protective diving chamber was several thousand pounds per square inch.

"It was bleak," he said. "It looked like the moon."

"I didn't see a fish," he said. "I didn't find anything that looked alive to me, other than a few amphipods in the water." Amphipods are shrimplike creatures sometimes found in the deep ocean.

Cameron -- whose films "Avatar" and "Titanic" were the biggest blockbusters in movie history -- now holds a record for the deepest solo dive ever made. Two other men, Navy Capt. Don Walsh and Swiss engineer Jacques Piccard, dove together to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in 1960, but spent only 20 minutes on the sea floor before returning. They said at the time that their sub kicked up so much muck that there was almost nothing visible through their thick viewing ports. No one has been back between then and Cameron's dive; some scientists said the risk and expense were not worth the reward.

Cameron, who is wealthy enough to go on such adventures, said he hoped to start a new chapter in deep-sea exploration.

"To me, the story is in the people in their quest and curiosity and their attempt to understand," Cameron said.

hope this help
No words could be truer, we should all let curiosity drive us to understand.

If we attach the same importance to condemning bad governance as we do to this LGBTQ issue, we wouldn't be in this shoddy state we're in.

I have given up on explaining to people that Homosexuality isnt a disease. This country is way too riddled with senseless folks to even attempt to begin.

As you can see, even the so called Educated are supporting their acts on this thread.

What hope is left for this countryhuh sad
I concur, it is not a disease but I must warn you to withdraw from telling pple b4 they term you one.

Christianity EtcRe: Are Christians The Only People Who Will Go To Heaven? by Alexbrain(m): 10:50am On Jun 04, 2017
hopefulLandlord:
This is not true

Satan and Yahweh are bestest buddies. The Book of Job has Satan having a pleasant chat with Yahweh, during which they make a bet involving killing people and screwing one guy over. Nope, there's no animosity between Yahweh and Satan in the least. They get along just fine.

Moreover, what we learned from the book of Job is that Satan can't do anything without God's explicit permission - God keeps him on a very short leash. So let's have none of this trying to excuse God for what Satan does - he's like that guy who lets his dog poop on your lawn while he's taking him for a walk.

According to the accounts of why David did a census in Samuel and Chronicles, Satan and Yahweh are beyond best buddies. If the angel of the Lord is the Holy Ghost, then Satan is a part of godhead that must be a quadrants, at least.

what nonsense! The Egyptians don't need to contest it cuz even the Jews themselves don't believe that nonsense read up and cure your ignorance http://www.beliefnet.com/faiths/judaism/2004/12/did-the-exodus-really-happen.aspx

In addition to the fact that there is nothing in all of Egypt's history, which mentions a Pharoah who perished by drowning in pursuit of millions... nor the existence of millions of hebrew slaves, nor devastating plagues... in fact, if things transpired as the bible described, Egypt would have crumbled and never recover...
Imagine the economic implication of a nation losing its basic workforce of slaves over night... and having millions of its sons die in one night... all this after a series of devastating plagues which would bring the mightiest empire to its knees...
Yet, Egypt remained a powerful nation, economically and militarily for a very very long time...

There are stories of people praying to the Christian God and being healed.

There are stories of people praying to non-Christian gods and being healed.

There are stories of people praying to no gods and being healed.

There are stories of members of all three categories who are not healed.

How do we figure out if anything is going on except confirmation bias? We find people who are sick, we have some prayed for and some not, and we see if there is a different recovery rate. The Templeton Foundation - a group inclined to believe that prayer is effective - ran exactly that experiment and found no difference.

I can go on a limb and say You don't have millions of answered prayers; you have millions of people who're determined to believe that their prayers were answered. Big difference.
the Koran also says similar

yeah, let's examine your hypocrisy, do you condemn the killing of the Canaanite and Midianite infants?

if Yes, you're not a hypocrite, if no then you have no grounds to criticise Islam because the Israeli soldiers killed the infants on the instructions from their god and Islamic terrorists carry out same instructions from their god, pick one, wither way its lose lose

of course this is what they call fallacy of circular reasoning, you're using the bible to confirm the Bible

that's like assuming harry potter is real because the book said so and therefore whatever is written there is valid

pure nonsense
I so much love your reply here, you nailed it to the finish.
