Politics4 Personalities Who Inspired The Nation This Year, By Dr. Godwin Maduka by AlexReports(op): 9:07am On Nov 04, 2020
*CSP GARBA, NGOZI OKONJO IWEALA, OLUMIDE AKPATA AND THE NIGERIAN YOUTHS: FOUR PERSONALITIES WHO INSPIRED THE NATION THIS YEAR*

-Godwin Maduka

It was Ralph Nader who stated and rightly so that there can be no daily democracy without daily citizenship. In other words, democracy can only thrive and be deepened when the citizens of a State are alive to their responsibilities. The recent events in the country this year have changed my perception and my thoughts about leadership. Citizenship in Nigeria in the previous years has been marked with apathy and tepidness. The laissez-faire attitude is largely because of the distrust Nigerian citizens nurse against the Nigerian State. But it is that way because the people do not understand the enormity of the power they wield. This lukewarm attitude of our people had worried me to no end and deep in my thoughts; I have prayed and hoped for the rise of the Nigerian spirit.

Recent events have shown that the people recognize and know their true leaders, regardless of ethnic and religious leanings and are ready to mobilize support for such exemplary characters. Few leaders that caught my attention most recently are...

*CSP RABIU GARBA
*, the DPO of Fegge Police Station. Even though an Hausa man, he was spared by the rampaging youths who had resorted to burning down police stations and other government structures during the recent #Endsars protest to register their resentment against police brutality and injustice in the society. However, it is important to state unequivocally that regardless of the provocation, disenchantment and resentment, burning down of police stations, government structures and other private properties to express anger is unacceptable and reprehensible. As a police officer, he had conducted himself as a professional, exhibited candour and integrity in the discharge of his functions. He did not choose to become a tiger to the community he was assigned to police. He lent a listening ear to all and sundry irrespective of status and most importantly, ingrained himself in the activities of the community by attending social functions in solidarity with the people. When the rampaging youths got to his station to raze it down, his colleagues working with him took to their heels, leaving him behind. The youths calmed down at the sight of *CSP GARBA* and downed their weapons of destruction. His charming personality and different approach to his duties saved the day, calmed frayed nerves and prevented his station from being destroyed. The fact that this man is neither Igbo nor a Southerner is instructive.*CSP GARBA* should be the new face of policing in Nigeria and must be drafted to help train and retrain some of his colleagues. *CSP GARBA'S* personality has rubbished the claim that ethnicity is the root cause of our woes as a Nation.

*MR OLUMIDE AKPATA* is another great leader who I admire and who I have observed closely this year. During the recently concluded NBA election, he showed his uncommon organizational skills with the way and manner he galvanized the young Lawyers, speaking to the issues that affect them. His message resonated with them because it spoke to the core of their worries regarding the prestigious profession. And so they stood with and by him and mobilized greatly on his behalf. The end result was his winning the election by a landslide.

*MR OLUMIDE AKPATA
* is my *MAN OF THE YEAR*, not just because of his victory at the NBA polls but because he rose to the occasion of leadership immediately after his swearing in. He hit the ground running. I must commend the entire members of the NBA for their comportment during the electioneering process. The NBA as a body has since been able to close ranks and Forge ahead, delivering on the electoral promises of its new leadership.

*DR. NGOZI OKONJO IWEALA* the joy which has continued to trail her nomination as a candidate for the top job of WTO is mind-blowing and exceptional. Nobody has enjoyed this kind of support across the board in Nigeria. As an observer, I have tried to decipher the stuff she is made of that made it possible for her to garner the enormous support from all and sundry. The answer is competence and sacrifice. In her bid to lift Nigeria from her economic struggles, entrench a culture of transparency, build strong institutions and set her on the path of sustained prosperity, people who were averse to change and were afraid of the cut off of their corrupt enrichment decided to fight her dirty. They deployed every weapon in their arsenal to the extent of kidnapping her aged mother, subjecting her to the worst psychological trauma. Yet *NOI* remained unbowed and never abdicated the responsibility to rescue the Nigerian economy from morass. Regardless of what happens with the job of WTO, my take is that she has won in the hearts of her people and that is the greatest victory.

*THE NIGERIAN YOUTH
* is a demography that has been written off as not being capable of handling the reins of power. Indeed, the youths are considered people who indulge in needless frivolities like Reality TV shows, football, social media and celebrity news. But these are young people who have never witnessed constant electricity in their entire lives, who have had their study years in the University punctuated by striking lecturers, elongating their years in the process, who have no promise of jobs even after graduation and had to literally create their own path in a bid to thrive.

And so it was with great surprise and relish that I watched how the #ENDSARS movement grew. Young people all over the country came out to say enough. The coordination was top notch. The peaceful nature of the protests gladdens the heart. They drove the narrative themselves, using the power of social media.

Even though the protests were largely about police brutality, it was by extension, an expression of frustration on the failures and the disappointments of the Nigerian system. From the hills of Enugu to the creeks of Niger Delta and streets of Lagos and Abuja, the message was the same. People marched under the sun and in the rain. The unity of purpose and the determination of these young folks show that a united Nigeria without ethnic fault lines is possible.

Hope is the oil of tomorrow, and these four personalities show that for Nigeria, it is still morning yet on creation day. With hard work, competence, integrity, patriotism and eschewing of tribalism on the path of the leaders and the led, this country can rise up, reclaim our tomorrow and live out the true meaning of the words in our national anthem -great lofty heights attain, to build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.

ENDSARS: US Based Medical Doctor And Philanthropist Princess Dr. Mercy Uwakwe Lends Her Voice On The Ends SARS Crisis

Dear Nigerians,

It is with a heavy heart that I join millions of people around the world to condemn the current happenings in the country.

What started as a rightful and legitimate peaceful call for the disbandment of an otherwise failed Special Anti Robbery Squad and reformation of the police system has deteriorated into huge sparks of violence across the country, with loss of lives, particularly with the Lekki incidence where several peaceful protesters were allegedly killed by the soldiers meant to protect them and destruction of properties and is currently turning into an even worse free for all anarchy.

This has not in anyway helped but put our dear nation on the right side of the divide in the international community. Indeed various protests held in several locations around the world coupled with the inability of the ruling elite to defuse the current situation has further tainted our already delicate international appeal.

I therefore, stand with the call for the reformation of police and the end of the tactical police unit, SARS.

My foundation has been in touch with various political leaders and diplomats within and outside the country to see a peaceful resolution of the violence and a long lasting solution to the issues of police brutality in Nigeria. In solidarity with the movement, we have reached out to various world leaders already and we promise to continue until a viable solution, one absolutely accepted by the majority of the populace, is reached by the government of our dear country.

While the pitiable situation continues, I would wish to let you know that my foundation would always be available to lend out any form of assistance to all who might be in need of it.

I love you all, so dearly.

#ENDSARSNOW #EndSARS #endpoliceterrorism #EndPoliceBrutality

All my love,
Princess Dr. Mercy Uwakwe

b]AMB RACHEL BAKAM INTERVIEWS FORMER KOGI GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANT PRINCE (DR) SANNI HALILU SHAIBU ON HIS CAREER AND THE END SARS PROTEST[/b]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYymPoiHj20

A blue blood born into a Royal family, former APC Governorship Aspirant in last election and a well known Nigerian business magnate, investor, speaker and philanthropist, His Excellency Prince (Dr) Sanni Halilu Shaibu PHD President/Founder OCTAQ Group which have expanded to cover financial audit and professional services, information technology, oil and gas and telecommunications is a man with Midas touch of entrepreneurial excellence. A World class business executive, corporate trailblazer, political scientist, a State Administrator, Frontline Philanthropist, management expert and iconic Statesman of outstanding acumen

Dogged by the Principle of Liberalism and the need to serve people as their own true servant, Prince Halilu Sanni Shuaibu is one silent humanitarian that was born on the 15th of January in the serene town of Ankpa, Ankpa LGA of Kogi State

A paragon of quality and excellence, he is a quintessential man who believes that reputation is the cornerstone of power and success. He therefore lives on and pursues his educational career with commitment and distinguished performance. He had the benefit of early exposure to Western education and the chances of success they guarantee
Amongst numerous awards, recognitions and achievements, he just won an award as Youth Economic builder at the Prestigious Democracy Heroes Award and he is a Distinguished fellow of the institute of public resources management and politics

In an interview with Rachel the PIPER, he speaks about how he built his career and addresses the youths #endsars #endswat #endpolicebrutality protests that have shaken the core of our Country in recent times

Kindly find next this interview:

Question: During your growing up days, what moulded you into becoming who you are today

Ans.: In life there are two things you need to carry along as you grow: 1) You must have a role model; look up to someone you will love to be like. It gives you courage. It builds your stamina. Another thing is to be trusted because people need to be able to entrust certain things into your hands that you manage and run

As a young boy growing up, I chose to go into business and today I am happy because of the principles I adopted. The principles of carrying everyone along in the business. The principles of not cheating people in business and the principle of starting with little funds. As a kid, when I was attending Islamic college in my village, I use to take money from my mum and buy fertiliser and sell to the market women who also sell to the farmers and I make little money. I barely finished my secondary school then and I use to buy some items like Agric products and take to other states. I use to take things from Ankpa to Onitsha and Anambra then I make some money

VIEWS ON NIGERIA:

Nigeria is a Country where if you support peace, you will enjoy peace. Nigeria is doing great. People are comparing Nigeria with America...some Countries in Asia and other parts of the World. It makes it look like Nigeria is not doing well. Nigeria is doing great

Question: In line with talking about Nigeria, what can you say about the End SARS, End Swat, End police brutality protests that have shaken Nigeria in the past weeks?

Ans.: Let me start with the End SARS. I just mentioned that every challenge...every issue demand a reaction. End SARS protest has been justified. Let me explain this to you: The youths came together and said "This is what we want. We are tired of this"...and they came up with demands. I studied international security and cyber crime. I'll tell you how Government works. Government have set up few persons to go underground to source for information because sometimes a demand will come. This is what we want...that is what we want. When Government tries those things, the people come up with other things...then the Government get those things sorted, then the people come up with other excuses. The Government employ intelligence to find out what the people want.

ABOUT THE PROTESTS:

The protesters failed to do one thing. They needed to have appointed people that will lead, people that will speak, people that will represent the group. This is where they got it wrong and it makes it look like they are faceless. Some persons will say these are noise makers but they have good intentions. They have a demand they are presenting to Government but they were meant to come together and say "You from this region, you will represent the youths". Or pick one person from each State to represent each zone. If you recall the Lagos State Governor in his speech said for three days they were trying to decipher who the team leaders are but they were struggling... agitations here and there. This one will say "I am the team leader...". Another will say "I am...." They didn't know who to hold on to and these things kept escalating. Those people at the helms of affairs today were elected. They are not military. We voted for them so we have to recognise what the constitution says.

What happened that amazed me was on a Friday. The Moslems were praying at the protest grounds and the Christians surrounded them protecting them. The Christians protected the Moslems. I was watching and I said "This is amazing". That act deeply impressed me. It shows that the issue is not about Christian or Moslem. It's not religious or tribal. It's about what the Country wants...what the youths want. The truth is from my perspective, Government is already responding to the demands. It's an issue that has been resolved and Government is already responding as we speak so let's give Government a chance

Question: So what's your word of advice to the youths?

Ans.: The youths I hail you all. The truth is we are stronger United. We need to avoid distributing and disseminating fake information flying on the social Media. We need to verify. Before you send or forward any information, you must verify the authenticity of those things you want to forward to the public. These things can cause wars. I have seen something that happened in Uganda over 7 or 8 years ago. During the protest, I saw the video. They made it look like it happened in Anambra State in Nigeria and if I didn't have the right information, I would have believed it and taken it hard on Government. For Some of our celebrities, Nigeria must exist before you make your money, before you make your name, your fame. Before you rush to the media, please verify what you are sending out

LAST WORDS

I want us to believe in this Country and I want us to also believe that we can join hands and make this Country great again. Every Country has its challenge and whatever we go through In this Country is the challenge we have to surmount but we need to come together the United strong people that we are to build this Country and to make it stronger

A long perilous legal battle finally came to a joyful end on Monday, 19th October, 2020 as Miss Favour Emmanuel, now a former inmate at the Aba Correctional Facility, was finally reunited with her family after the magistrate signed her release papers following the intervention from Mercy Wave Foundation through her CEO, Princess Dr. Mercy Uwakwe, to pay all fines imposed on her and clear the way for her release.

This case of a sorrowful tale turned to a joyful ending sums up perfectly the visions of the Mercy Wave Foundation in being a hope and voice for the underserved in society.

Speaking to the crew of the Mercy Wave TV following her release, a highly emotional Miss Favour narrated her heartbreaking ordeal which started over two years ago. She explained how years of struggle and hardship forced her into the unfortunate crime she committed.

According to her, she could hardly complete her secondary education due to lack of resources and had to, at a tender age, resort to menial jobs to keep her family functional. Things however took a bad turn when two years ago, for a family already struggling, they received the news of her father's diagnosis and accompanying hospital bill eclipsing Five Hundred Thousand Naira.

Poor Favour's financial power and savings could definitely not cater for this huge expense, and the thought of losing her father made her take drastic steps which would later lead to a prison sentence.

As a cashier working for a firm, and being privy to the account details of the company, she decided to take the hospital bill from her firm's account. This apparent action of self sacrifice and a bid to help her ailing was the start of her long legal troubles. According to her, she eventually narrated the story to her boss innocently, informing him that she would work without salary to offset the bills until every penny was repaid.

However, things took a drastic turn as her boss demanded an instant refund which Miss Favour could not provide and he had her locked away until she could pay up the loan.

Narrating her ordeal in the correctional center, Miss Favour Emmanuel pointed out that from the first day, it was untold hardship as her health condition was not considered by the authorities. She witnessed severe episodes of anaemia where her fellow inmates concluded she wouldn't make it thorough the night, but somehow grace preserved her and she kept on knowing that someday her story would change for the better.

She encouraged every every Nigerian to always stay on the good side of the law to avoid any confrontation that might lead to prison.

When asked about her plans for the future, Miss Favour promised to leverage on the freedom granted her by the foundation, to lead a dutiful life. The foundation also promised to assist her in various ways.

In a separate interview, the mother of the benefactor, Mrs Joy Emmanuel, also narrated, amid tears, their story from outside the prison perspective. According to her, at the onset of the situation, she contacted a lot of Foundations and NGOs all to no avail. She also recounted how upon his discharge from the hospital, Mr Emmanuel, Favour's dad, kept on visiting Favour every single day until Favour had to ban him from visiting because of the damage the stress was causing to his already problematic health. Mrs Joy further expressed her profound gratitude to the foundation for coming to their aid when all hope seemed to have been lost and it was only a matter of time, she felt, before Favour dies in prison due to her health conditions being a sickler.

The Mercy Wave Foundation pointed out explicitly that they do not promote or support crime in any form. They called on youths to take advantage and participate in various enlightenment programs aimed at educating them on the dangers of crime. They also provide empowerment schemes to help keep youths engage and self sufficient while avoiding issues of crime.
