This is totally uncalled for. Please delete that comment. Kumuyi is a revered man of God.

as for Olaadegbu, he's best ignored. This is someone who, if he's not hobnobbing Trump, is busy bumping his zillion useless threads. He should not be taken seriously.

Politics / Re: Tinubu Rules Out Return Of Fuel Subsidy, Says Decision Painful But Necessary by alezzy13: 7:51am On Aug 04
Tinubu is paying subsidy. A blind man knows that.

Landing cost is over N1000/litre, yet we get fuel for between 670-900 at stations. So who is taking care of the differential??

The problem now is there is no explicit budget line for subsidy which makes it murky. Because the obvious question will be where is the money coming from? Who is paying and who is receiving??

Above is the famous Onyeka Onwenu investigative reportage of the monumental corruption and wastage of national resources in 1984 during the inglorious Buhari military junta regime era. This was when journalism was journalism not these days of brown envelope journalists like Sam Omatseye, Reuben Abati.

Meanwhile, the same political scenario and trajectory since post independence is still plaguing Nigeria till date. This just confirmed that the nation is under a curse.

Wow. Sensational reporting!!! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Politics / Re: "We're No Different From Beggars Now." - Women In Northern Nigeria by alezzy13: 4:35pm On Jul 30
Mitsurugi:

This is not the issue. If there is security a large family is actually a bonus in agriculture. The issue is insecurity not family planning. When I served in Adamawa there was this man with a large family, his farm was enviable. Every member was a worker from the oldest down to the youngest after school hours. It was a company just like the days of old.

And that's the problem why the North has remained so backward. Like I said in the other thread, Children are no more than cheap labour for you guys.

Cj4charles:
I keep telling those defending this Government to do that with sense, the Northerners have been giving birth to multiple children right from inception.. why then every thing changed since Tinubu came into power

And how has it helped them do far?? Consider virtually all indices; literacy level, standard of living, maternal/child mortality, etc. and you see the North lagging seriously behind.

Don't you think it's time we begin to tell ourselves the truth?

FYI, I'm not by any means holding brief for Tinubu,

China has a billion people, yet they are not blaming their population. The north is not backward because they are too populated, but it is because of leadership issues. That 12 children a singular northerner has is a big blessing if harnessed for farming and manufacturing. North has everything to develop themselves, except poor leadership and religious extremism.

There is a clear difference between one family having 10 children, and then 5 families having 2 children each. Same number but very different demographics.

You claim the "children being harnessed for farming and manufacturing" seriously?? 5-18 yrs old should start working in manufacturing firms?? shocked

I'm not holding brief for govt, as they can certainly do better, but families need to become more responsible: they should stop seeing children as sources of cheap labour but rather as assets who need to be trained (schooled) and nurtured till they can become productive members of society. That is how countries become rich.

Salewa97:
Fayose should focus on his own backyard before casting stones.

Northerners are resilient and hardworking, raising their children with values that many in the South could learn from.

Instead of blaming Tinubu, let's work together to uplift all regions. The real issue is leadership, not geography.

There is a limit to which govt can work. People also have to imbibe sensible population control measures.

I don't support him (Fayose) singling out the North (it's a general problem) but we must admit that's it's more prevalent there.

Yes Nigeria is not overpopulated in the true sense of the word, but the problem is the demographics. We have a heavily dependent, young consuming population. .

Even then governor Yari called it the ticking time bomb.

It's been a while I did any reasonable TB. The last one I did was through my bank app in the secondary market. The charges came unilaterally with no breakdown and the investment amount and charges were not much so I didn't stress my self to request for the breakdown.

Regarding your friends situation, the 79k seems to be 10% tax (WHT) on the interest of the TB. It still seems many people are yet to be aware that the exemption of WHT earlier enjoyed by TB's and CP's subscribers have expired. However, it doesn't seem to be reflecting in all banks charges. It seems some banks are deducting WHT while others are not (I stand to be corrected on this). I don't know why they should be difference in that aspect. It should be general. I only got to know this when some CP I subscribed was about to mature last year and they sent me forms to fill for deduction.

@bolded, evidently. From my experience, GT does not deduct WHT (or yet to commence)

I've seen letter from FIRs, and its pretty clear. OR Is it possible a bank that size will be unaware?

I'm just hoping they will not begin retrospective deductions. . . embarassed

Chikebrain:

I also bidded with my zenith corporate and the charges were alarming. WHT was 10% of interest with their own bidding fees.
Next I bidded with gtb and they didn't charge WHT on interest but on charges and total charges including WHT wasn't up to 30k.

I dont know if it's because it was a corporate account that's why they charged so much but one thing I'm sure of is that I'd never bid with zenith again. Their total charges are to the roof

I don't get understand the bolded part. Are you saying the there was WHT, but not on the interest?

Am asking because I use GT as well and there hasn't been any WHT on my TB investments so far.

Lol. 🀣

So Russia isn't afraid of striking NATO anymore?

Lots and lots of Russian missiles and drones have hit many NATO territories over the course of the war.

Do you know how many times Russian warplanes have flown into NATO airspace? Ask Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Poland 😁

Or better still, Google it. You'll understand why 32 world powers including the US are scared shitless of Russia.

Una go dey make mouth Cho Cho.

When even Putin himself has made it clear he's not under any illusion he can successfully go against the NATO alliance, you dey make mouth here.

Naturally the alliance will not want to escalate tensions, and so would always have some restraint. However to claim they are 'scared shitless' of Russia is a sick joke.

Am not really a fan of Dangote, but I don't like the way they are treating him.

Govt should look dispassionately at the bigger picture. Is it more profitable to continue paying subsidy to fuel importers or to give a fraction of that money to Dangote, if in the end it guarantees cheaper fuel for us?
