What rubbish info is this? So you can't even show the difference between the real and fake products rather you are talking about selling below market prices and lack of vat on products. How is the supposed to help identify fake products if you don't display samples of the real one and the fake one you recovered

That's the point. They are similar except occasional spelling mistakes.

The only way to solve this is to have the bar code on these items.

Haba. Has it gotten to this level? I'm definitely not a fan of Tinubu, but we should know where to draw the line.

@OP, you better tread carefully. You are not as invisible as you think.

@mods I suggest you guys do the needful before one gets himself and possibly the platform into trouble.

Some sense of decency should prevail. Why in a rush to announce new appointments on the same day/week you announced the death of your former principal? Some actions are preposterous.

Pretend to mourn for some days, at least. Reserve all appointments and announcements until the New Year which is just a few days away. Quite unfortunate. sad

Honestly. It gives the impression he's been planning this moment for a while now.

Politics / Re: Gov Alia Replies Benue NASS Lawmakers, Says He Helped APC Win In 2023 by alezzy13: 9:22am On Dec 23, 2023
Politics is dicey, and while we all commented Alia, he should thread carefully.

There's no doubt about it: with or without APC, Alia would have won, and to that extent, Akume cannot lay claim to 'I put you there" god father type compelex, like we have in Rivers.

But all the same, totally abandoning the party is NOT the way to go about it.

Whether we like it or not, party must have a say to some extent in the selection of key officials. This according to reports is the main grouse they have.

For instance the recent selection of LGA caretaker chairman for the state, which apart from Tarka, he almost singlehandedly choose all of them on his own. And this after he allegedly asked the party members to send in names of thier respective nominees.

Unsurprisingly, the usual Trump deplorables are falling over themselves in defence of their king.

Their god has spoken &therefore it must be true, unquestionably. He said my ilk are polluting his country and his right.

As usual, they cannot process the simple fact that it's not about whether it's right or wrong; such highly offensive, disgusting stereotyping has no place in the modern world, not least from someone aspiring to lead the most powerful country on earth. 😔

I totally agree.

Just for the records I'm not from the SE and do in fact have issues with some of the extreme statements credited to Kanu.

All the same, given we were coming from a very divisive election, and most of the problems were with the previous admin, I believe Tinubu should release him and in fact should done so within the first few months of his tenure, moreso there was a subsisting order from the appeal court.

Reporting by MacDonald Dzirutwe And Anandita Mehrotra; Editing by Shinjini Ganguli

https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/moodys-upgrades-outlook-nigeria-positive-2023-12-08/

Economics 101. The basics, gather your own data from the street and make an informed decision. The prices of basic staples such as garri, rice, indomie, beans, cooking oils, bread etc are far beyond the average salary thus making it impossible for an average household to have a substantial disposable income. So the people are poorer, companies are shutting down due to high cost of doing business which was previously cushioned by higher turnover, lower sales volume because of lower disposable income is helping.

The jamboree lifestyle of those in charge is not helping matters too, I will never invest in a company whose CEO is living above their income, that is a recipe for disaster, I wish to disagree with this report because of my facts and will visit here by March 2024 to compare results.

For those who doesn't understand, remember same international media reported that the true value of the Naira is less than 700 to a dollar but today it is over a thousand official rate. When an administration has a huge budget for media, expect false news, empty headed attack dogs and false hopes at a scale never seen. A government that encourages you to look up to tomorrow while they steal your present.

Your missing the point.

What they are simply saying is Nigeria is now a more attractive option for potential creditors at more favourable rates. ie, we are more likely to repay than was the case a few years back.

Whether that will translate to the better living conditions for average man is another.

FYI, this is not for or against this govt

What is the rate of naira to dollar at the I & E window used by the CBN as I realized many people used the rate at the parallel market to create panic. I understand it is people who don't have access to the I &E window that patronize the parallel market. The fact is for how long will government continue to defend the naira? For how long will government continue to pay subsidy which they believe only enrich certain forces? Honestly, anyone taking over the position of CBN governor at this period needs support and encouragement
For people that criticize without logic, can you do better if you're recommended as CBN governor? Remember fuel importation is one of the major thing putting pressure on the naira as Refineries are yet to come up. The government might have mistake floating the naira as their projection failed, what measures should be put in place to put a stop to the free fall of Naira?

Lol. I guess people are expecting him to start printing dollars.

TNot holding brief for the govt, but we all in this shiit together.

In my office for instance, I can't count the number of staff that are speculatively hoarding dollars. Not that they have dorm accounts oo, or have anything to do with foreign currency. Just buying from Aboki and keeping it under the mattress. These same folks are the ones also complaining about the free fall of the naira.

It's a no-brainer: as long as demand outstrips supply, as long as we keep having net imports, as long as speculation continues, the fall will continue.

Honestly I don't envy the CBN and the economic team. They have thier work cut out for them. sad

The CBN has to increase interest rates to a level it can start slaying inflation. If done, the Naira would become stronger. I won't be surprised if it hits about 800.

However, it's as though Tinubu is worried that any steep rate rise lest it tilts the economy into a recession. This is inescapable.

With a stronger Naira and lower inflation, the positive effect would outweigh the any recession or downturn it brings.

Cheaper prices are like a God send.

The CBN needs to open up to how much is in the foreign reserves. The government has kept mum about it. If the rumor that it has fallen to $4bn is true, the country might have no choice but to approach the IMF

Totally agree with the interest rate part. Currently people are dumping naira investments mainly due to the poor rates. Why on earth will I buy Treasury bills for instance at about 9% return when inflation is nearly triple that ??

As for the external reserve, I believe it was JP that said our actual (so called unencumbered) balance was a measly $3b as against the figure we keep touting.
