Christianity did not come with tidings of great joy, but with a message of eternal grief. It came with the threat of everlasting torture on its lips. It meant war on earth and perdition hereafter |
It's better to live in freedom for one life time than to be a slave of God for an eternity. |
Man should not fear the gods. The gods should fear man, for they can only dwell beyond the limits of our understanding. The larger our settlement of knowledge becomes the farther into exile they are pushed. |
The biggest weapon I've had in my arsenal against depression...I stopped seeing myself as broken from birth and needing something/someone else to repair me or make me whole. Dumping the superstitious notion of a judgmental so-called "loving" god who deliberately makes flawed creatures...then punishes them for being flawed...is only the healthiest thing I have done for myself...ever! |
Atheism Is Rare?! so is intelligence |
Uyi Iredia: Last time I checked there were lots of atheist-centric threads (like this one) on the Religion section. This clearly means that atheists here are free. Make an atheist thread in Islam for Muslims section and report back to me.I promise you that we wont create any atheist thread in a christian section if one exists. NB - THIS IS NOT A CHRISTIAN SECTION! |
What's "God"? Well, you know, when you want something really bad and you close your eyes and you wish for it? God's the guy that ignores you. |
Believers beat religion into my father. They tortured me every Sunday of my childhood with interminable rituals. They threatened my child with burning in hell forever for not praying with them. The worst thing any atheist ever threatened us with was a bad grade if we didn’t do our science homework. |
It is thus religion infatuates man from his infancy, fills him with vanity and fanaticism: if he has a heated imagination it drives him on to fury; if he has activity, it makes him a madman, who is frequently as cruel to himself, as he is dangerous and incommodious to others: if, on the contrary, he be phlegmatic or of a slothful habit, he becomes melancholy and is useless to society. |
Faith, while incapable of moving a mountain of evidence, has an incredible capacity to ignore it. |
For those in love with an illusion often refuse to accept reality |
What used to be 'demonic posession' is now known to be neuro-psychological disorders. What used to be 'divine wrath' is now known to be the Earth's geological and meteorological processes. What used to be 'curse' is now known to be microbial infections. What used to be a 'miracle' is now known to be a hoax. What used to be 'god' is now known to be an excuse to solicit money from ignorant people. |
One man's theology is another man's belly laugh. |
Saying that you are moral because you believe in a god is like saying you are an economist because you play monopoly. |
Christianity is the best way to cure gayness. Just get on your knees, take a swig of wine and accept the body of a man into your mouth. |
Faith is to the human what sand is to the ostrich. |
But here steps in Satan, the eternal rebel, the first freethinker and the emancipator of worlds. He makes man ashamed of his bestial ignorance and obedience; he emancipates him, stamps upon his brow the seal of liberty and humanity, in urging him to disobey and eat of the fruit of knowledge. |
When the course of experience made me see that there is no saviour and no special grace, no remission beyond the human, that pain is to be endured and fades, if it fades, only with time, then God became nothing to me but a dyslexic dog, with neither bark nor bite. |
What Does Religion Mean to Me ? Never Reaching Your Full Potential As A Human Being. |
A Christian telling an atheist they're going to hell is as scary as a child telling an adult they're not getting any presents from Santa. |
I was not offered any options when my ‘faith’ was chosen for me. I was not offered any answers when I questioned the bible. I was not offered any understanding when I chose reason over superstition. Instead, I was offered a one way ticket to eternal hellfire, and several invitations to hasten my arrival there. |
Deep Sight: And what will be discussed there?A less bigoted mod then. |
I was brought up an atheist and have always remained so. But at no time was I led to believe that morality was unimportant or that good and bad did not exist. I believe passionately in the need to distinguish between right and wrong and am somewhat confounded by being told I need God, Jesus or a clergyman to help me to do so. |
Sometimes I think a person is intelligent. Then they tell me they are a believer. Which then shows what a poor judge I am. |
To act morally is not to act out of fear of punishment; it is not to act as one is commanded to act. Rather, it is to act as one ought to act. And how one ought to act is not dependent upon anyone's power, even if the power be Divine. |
You are not a follower of religion. You are a victim of it. |
I`m a bit too old for fairy tales now. |
I want an avowed atheist in the White House. When time comes to push that button, I want whoever's making the decision to understand that once it's pushed, it's over. Finito. They're not gonna have lunch with Jesus. Won't be deflowering 72 virgins on the great shag carpet of eternity, or reincarnated as a cow. I want someone making that decision who believes life on this Earth isn't just a dress rehearsal for something better -- but the only shot we get. |
Suns are extinguished or become corrupted, planets perish and scatter across the wastes of the sky; other suns are kindled, new planets formed to make their revolutions or describe new orbits, and man, an infinitely minute part of a globe which itself is only an imperceptible point in the immense whole, believes that the universe is made for himself. |
Believing there is no God gives me more room for belief in family, people, love, truth, beauty, sex, Jell-o, and all the other things I can prove and that make this life the best life I will ever have. |
mazaje: I understand your complains, but to be fair some of the things your outlined are offensive. . .How can you be questioning the sexuality of Jesus and say its not offensive?. . .I have seen manmustwac delete similar post from christians from some christians that are insulting or offensive to atheist. . .By they post are quite similar to the ones you outlined. . .All in all, nairaland religious section is OK. . The mod are human and as such they most make mistakes sometimes but over all they are very ok and the atheist here should not complain. . .We are free to do what ever we want here except violate the rules. . .I am saying this as some one that has violated the laws countless times. . .I have posted offensive comments, insulted Jesus, Mohammed, Allah, Yahweh and their followers. . .There is nothing that I haven't done here either as a retort and fire back when insulted or sometimes deliberately because I want to mock or irritate someone. . .Atheists have no reason to complain here, if we have a reason I will be the first to voice it. . .And you call yourself an atheist. Even among atheists, there are hypocrites. We atheists question everything. So you want us to conform to "do not question" dictates of the godly? I know that asking serious questions are offensive to single minded individuals but coming from a supposed atheist, I am very surprised. I now am sure you have an agenda. I mean, look at these people! They are the ones that want to control our sex lives and they cite their jesus as someone to emulate. But for some reason we don't have the right to question his sexuality? WTF!?! There is a big difference between genuine mistake and wilfull wickedness. The rules are the rules. You cannot just ban people and threads that have not broken any rules just because you subjectively find them offensive. There is no NL rule against mocking religions! There are no NL rules that say topics must not disturb JeSoul's or any other mod's olfactory sensibilities. We have every reason to complain and we are doing so. If you can't see the reasons, you are either hopelessly blind or a hypocrite. |
noblefada: Well its a pity dat u're taking this stance, the Holy Spirit will open ur mental capacity to levels you can ever imagine, esp reconciling past history with science.I'm sure it would, if given the chance. Fortunately for me, I am covered by the powers of Satan. |
