The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church. |
Appraise the Lord: Tax church property. |
What we do in every other area of our lives (other than religion), is, rather than respect somebody's beliefs, we evaluate their reasons. |
^^^ Calm down. He's no mod. |
Seun: I apologize for my unfair outburst against Jesoul. It seems I forgot to check her post because I was mad with her for a different reason.I understand Seun. These christians can sometimes drive one mad to the extreme. |
I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world. |
I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours. |
Logicboy03: Guy, while I agree with your overall point, lets not give the christians any excuse to claim persecution from us....drop the Jizz-us act and lets focus on the goal. What do you mean drop Jizz-Us act and focus on the goal? That is exactly the goal. The freedom to praise and worship who I want no matter how hateful or distasteful someone else finds it. Your criticism is exactly the type of criticism Bobby Henderson got when he started with his church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster. He was even ridiculed by some of the so called atheists still harbouring one-way thinking process. Many religious people tried to get it banned. They protested against placing of the Spaghetti Monster statue outside a court where there are other statues including christian ones. In the end the rule of law triumphed. So if people have the right to praise Yahweh, Zeus, Allah, Jah, Amadioha, etc on this forum, then I also must have the right to praise my Jizz-Us. Denying me such right is bigotry and gross injustice. If they can prevent the worship of Jizz-Us, who's next? They might one day say, "stop worshipping Satan or you be banned as worshipping Satan is offensive to christians". And I have heard the bolded said a lot of times. |
The World is divided into armed camps ready to commit genocide just because we can't agree on whose fairy tales to believe. |
^^^ Or if christians want to be as intolerant as their muslim counterparts, give them their own sub-section as well. I don't understand why a christian should be imposing how I chose to express myself here. Imagine, I cannot even praise and worship here the Most Holy One, Jizz-Us the 1st. Son of the living doG. I get banned whenever I mention his name. They say his name also sounds like the name of their god. Is is my fault if their god chose to answer a pagan name? Nonsense! |
Nevertheless, there are extreme circumstances in which I believe that practices like “water-boarding” may be not only ethically justifiable, but ethically necessary. This is not the same as saying that they should be legal (Crimes such as trespassing and theft may sometimes be ethically necessary, though everyone has an interest in keeping them illegal).I completely agree here and this is my stance on euthanasia as well. I concede that there may be extreme circumstances where euthanasia may be ethically justifiable or necessary but everyone has an interest in keeping it illegal. |
striktlymi: Hallo Seun,I think Seun needs to sleep a bit more. Maybe he's a bit too tired from going to and fro Nairaland. Here was me thinking JeSoul broke a rule so I can hold it against her next time she's on my case but Seun come fall my hand. (Except if she sent a PM to chukky asking him to send a PM to Seun.) |
We all ought to understand we're on our own. Believing in Santa Claus doesn't do kids any harm for a few years but it isn't smart for them to continue waiting all their lives for him to come down the chimney with something wonderful. Santa Claus and God are cousins. |
manmustwac: No wahalla why don't you add the names of the people who made those famous quotes?I put them in italics and did call them quotes in the title. Anyway, for me, it is the message that counts, not the messenger. |
So far as I can remember, there is not one word in the Gospels in praise of intelligence |
No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says; he is always convinced that it says what he means. |
We rely on faith only in the context of claims for which there is no sufficient sensory or logical evidence. |
wiegraf: How exactly is playing say golf beneficial to humanity? I don't see you denying golfers their rights when they indulge in an activity that does not infringe on your rights in any way, yes?If the right to play golf for some could mean that one day, somebody could legally force me to play golf, then golf becomes bad for humanity. My worry is not about those that have a death wish, it is about the ripple effect the legalisation of actualisation of the said death wish would have that I'm concerned about. wiegraf: We don't need to get into relativity atm. It isn't a murder in the sense that no one's rights are being infringed on, that's all.You should know that 3rd world countries are copy copy, follow follow countries. As soon as the western world legalises it, they will start clamouring for it and some can even be pressured into adopting them. In any case, it is not about who is doing it but about whether it is right or wrong to do. wiegraf: I'm not sure where you're going with this. There are always 'miracles', but miracles are supposedly special because they very, very, very rarely occur, yes?Finding a cure for AIDS is not miracle. It is science. 'Incurable' diseases someday may become curable through research, not miracles. Concerning rights infringement, again, my worry is about the ripple effect, not the actual act. wiegraf: And you're also well aware that for the few who would rather die gracefully, myriad others are well willing to fight on. I highly doubt they would be ignored. Where exactly do you think most profit would be made? Living patients, week in week out paying for treatments, or those that choose the one stop solution? Dead clients usually can't pay for any further medical services, yes?Passive in the actual act of the killing. wiegraf: This here is senseless 'THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!'. Were in the world do I mention that they should be disposed of?Unless I misunderstand what euthanasia means, I think "disposing of" the sick is a well suited classification. wiegraf: The bolded is clearly false. You are preventing one from receiving his preferred form of treatment simply because you don't like it. The patient has rights too, yes?Killing sick people is not a form of treatment. wiegraf: The italicized, not at the expense of individual rights when it clearly does not profit us.Collective rights trumps individual rights especially where the granting of the said individual right is clearly not beneficial to the community. wiegraf: The green, their duty also entails a lot of other things including helping society as a whole and helping patients and their... rights.GBAM! wiegraf: The bolded, again, I wonder where you draw these conclusions from. And, that is your opinion. You should well understand how silly it is for one to force others to subscribe to his beliefs simply because.I think you may have confused the word wanked-off with whacked-off. |
Mudley313: 1. ...so are muslims, and any other religion outside of the christian sect...i don't believe in the imaginary jewish yaweh, arabian allah as much as i don't believe in the nordic's thor, greek's zeus, yorubas olodumare, mister satan or whatever imaginary man made deity you pagans be worshiping these daysIn that case, let Seun remove a religious zealot as the moderator in this section or provide a christian sub-section like he did for the muslims and let the zealot moderate there. |
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? |
To sustain the belief that there is no God, atheism has to demonstrate infinite knowledge, which is tantamount to saying, “I have infinite knowledge that there is no being in existence with infinite knowledge |
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. |
The bible and the church have been the greatest stumbling block in the way of women's emancipation. |
Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense. |
Jesus' last words on the cross, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" hardly seem like the words of a man who planned it that way. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure there is something wrong here. |
Doesn't it bother you that you put more logical thought into choosing a car than you do in choosing a god? |
The first clergyman was the first rascal who met the first fool |
God is an ever receding pocket of scientific ignorance. |
The world holds two classes of men - intelligent men without religion, and religious men without intelligence. |
In no instance have . . . the churches been guardians of the liberties of the people. |
Be thankful that you have a life, and forsake your vain and presumptuous desire for a second one. |
Faith does not give you the answers, it just stops you asking the questions. |
