now this completely my opinion so PLEASE i am not stating a fact from a 'source' so let me go ahead and say that the longer d delay in calling guys to camp, d less likely i see d possiblity of using the ex dg's list and i have my reasons 1. the ex dg handled the last recruitment n people will testify it was heavily skewed in favour of his hometown. katsina got 51. 2. the new dg will want his interests reflected in the list. nobody knows if buhari will appoint someone else as the substansive dg but in any event the current list will be 'revisited' this brings two thoughts to mind a. to revisit d list d new dg might 'play around with the list' and substitute a lot of names. this will b d easier way but the problem with this is that it will raise a lot of eye brow and if the new dg wants ti start with a clean breath he will prefer to go for option; b. declare gross inconsistency in d recruitment process and order for a fresh recruitment. by changing the state director's of security he will have loyal state commands that would follow his directives as far as recruitment is concerned. once again my opinion so read with caution. |

[quote author=Nostradamus post=70520452]Another question that's been bugging, when recruiting agents, are hacking skills considered in the recruitment of agents?
2)do they teach our dss boys hacking?(this is another way of me asking that are dss agents really great with softwares.i somehow feel that secret agents should know a lot about computers and softwares).[/quote hacking skills are not considered in recruiting sss officers/ operatives (they re not refered to as agents) i know how d allure of american spy thrillers fuel james bondic fantasies or jason bournic expectations - and even though real intelligence work has its subtle thrills the perculiarity of the host country will determine the operational doctrine of their intelligence services. for nigeria, sss has not yet been positioned for raw intelligence activities akin to what obtains in more advanced climes - high level hacking, busting spy rings, counter intelligence etc. dss is still at d level of bugging phone numbers of political or religious interests, and the rest. thats not saying they dont have tech guys but at dis stage political interests often drive their strategic operations |

i would also add that our nia like u already must know, is modelled after the cia which means they run agents outside the country with counterintelligence operations which should normally have dia opposite numbers in the sss. in a nutshell, just as the police and d sss share the same role of hunting down organized crime, d sss and nia/dia share the same obligation of counterintelligence |

Kaizer86: Nice one man... But isnt that the work of n.i.a, d.i.a,? valid points. we have definitely not evolved enough to the level of the mi5 n i seriously hope we do. i will also say that dere is a fundamental difference btw nigeria's state security service, sss and USA's secret service ss. america's ss is basically VIP protection and also an anti counterfeit service working under d treasury department. infact historically d ss has mainly focused on d latter duty though now more public attention seems to b on dia vip protection services. on d oda hand our sss was primarily established for intelligence purposes though they later evolved to adopt vip protection roles. but outside that VIP intersection our sss is very different from america's ss. i would rather compare our sss with the fbi- though i do dis with a pinch of salt because our sss remains a secret police whereas d fbi is not. kaizer |

Nostradamus: Hello house i have one question about these dss guys oo.i have read a lot of thriller novels where secret agents always have firearms(mostly small 9mm)in their house.i want to ask,are dss guys allowed to own guns in their personnal abode(not the one issued by the government-tavor 21-that they always carry for operations)? my two cents about the dss or d sss( their constitutional name). so the sss has a quasi police/quasi intelligence structure. the british mi5 or security service is purely domestic intelligence and counter intelligence with no police powers of arrest. on d contrary nigeria's sss has the police powers of arrest which naturally broadens their operations. now nigeria's peculiar history has positioned the sss over the years as a secret police(not the best toga) and this means that often the interests of the incumbent govt. will overshadow real intelligence or counterintelligence work. this implies that the sss will spend more time hunting journalists, social critics, political opposition parties and the rest. lets face it. many nigerian top politicians/government functionaries are agents/spies for western intelligence agencies like the mi6 cia german intelligence, mossad etc. i think very strongly that the sss must change her in house doctrine in oda to do real intelligence work. so point is what sss really needs are not more guns- we have the npf n d nscdc to do that- what d sss needs is to adopt the mi5 model which focuses heavily on counter intelligence and exposing traitors who sell out the state |

pacespot: He is aligning Nigeria with the path that does not promote the interest of the West, that's why all this is coming up. Remember, Nigeria is now trading yuan against dollar. Buhari is firm on his rigid exchange rate policy which has so far been successful in preventing naira from sliding. IMF, World Bank and several multilateral institutions have all suggested that the exchange rate be floated, but Buhari refused. Also, his anti corruption war is preventing money from flowing easily from Nigeria into corrupt havens in these advanced countries, unlike in the PDP era. I've always suggested that the president should change his medical trip from these western countries to a less intrusive country like China or India, you can't be pursuing foreign policies that are unfavorable to the West while you are going there for medical service, it is very unsafe.
Now, the West wants to install corrupt stooges in PDP to help control Nigerian money into their pocket. I've seen Atiku making frequent visits to UK recently. I don't know why any sane country would still listen to these western countries with all that is happening in their political sphere: election of Donald Trump, Brexit, trade tensions, unilateralism, etc. These people only care about their own interest, they don't care if the world is burning. I'm not saying Buhari is a perfect guy, he surely has his own flaws, for instance he should have responded firmly against the rampaging herdsmen in the country, but any election that will see power returning to PDP is a no step forward for Nigeria at this time. Despite the oil price slump, Buhari has moved Nigeria's foreign reserve from barely $25bn in Jonathan administration to over $40bn, global economy is facing turbulence presently but the present administration is investing in infrastructural projects that would see Nigerian economy transformed in the long run.
Returning power to corrupt Buffoons that ruled us mercilessly for 16 years is nothing short of insanity. well said |

Kaizer86: Sources close to the security forces have confirmed the reasons why staff of the Department of State Security (DSS) jubilated when they heard of the sack of immediate-past Director General, Lawal Musa Daura.
Recall that Daura was sacked by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday after he ordered masked and heavily-armed DSS agents to blockade the National Assembly Complex allegedly without official authorisation.
He has since been replaced by Matthew Seiyefa.
It was gathered that Daura assumed extraordinary powers immediately he assumed office and that he ensured that all Directors at the National Headquarters of the service were made to queue up to pay homage to him daily.
A source said, “To add salt to injury, you cannot even go and ease yourself because, once he sighted you in the CCTV that you have left, you are in soup.”
Before Daura, Directors at the Headquarters of the service were allocated a Prado SUV and a Peugeot 508 as official cars and one Toyota Hilux as utility car.
It was also gathered that Daura reduced the monthly subvention of the Directors by as much as 70 per cent under the pretext that there was no money.
The former DG DSS was also said to have stopped the welfare of all DSS staff even though it was said that he approved US dollars to sponsor some trips abroad.
Many of the operatives were allegedly denied their allowances usually paid for operational deployments.
A source said that in 2017, the former DG DSS allegedly sponsored 32 persons, including “some of his wives and grandchildren to the USA with some of them getting as much as $10,000 for adults and others got $5,000 as PTA.
“Training programmes and other official benefits were stopped. Even overseas training which are to be sponsored by the foreign institutions suffered because of lack of interest to treat files. Most at times, the event must have been concluded months after, before he would see the file and he was always proud to write ‘belated, file away,” a source stated.
But sources said that despite the claim of paucity of funds, the man was said to have placed his children and grandchildren and their spouses on monthly allowances of about N200,000 monthly.
The source further said: “The wives and grown up children were collecting petrol voucher for 100 litres per week, whereas operational vehicles are not properly fuelled, except those on standby for special operations like the operation at the National Assembly.”
“Officials of the DSS were told that Dangote Group donated vehicles just like the company did to the Police but that the embattled ex-DG converted the vehicles to personal use.
“Each wife goes around in convoy with details. In fact, the third wife who is based in Kano is nursing the ambition to contest for House of Reps in Kano.”
He was also said to have diverted trailer loads of rice donated by Dangote to Kano so that the said wife would use it as political gift to would-be constituents.
Further details indicated that even Daura’s neighbours in Gwarimpa, Abuja and Katsina did not enjoy him as some of them were said to have jubilated over his removal because of his oppressive conducts.
A source in the know said: “When a transformer serving his house in Daura got burnt, the neighborhood was all looking for his help for replacement.
“Daura however bought a smaller transformer that will serve only his house and connected same without minding what became the fate of his neighbours.”
His neighbours in Gwarimpa lamented that since he became DG DSS it has remained difficult to see him for any help.
Na wa hmmmmm I don't believe everything I read tho, but this man is getting strocked right left and center. what a man! |
