Foreign Affairs / Re: Afghanistan: 800 People Crammed Into A US Plane As They Escape From Kabul by allsubjects(m): 7:03am On Aug 17, 2021
So horrific, some people might want to blame President Biden for this mess but the question is, how many years do they want Americans (foreign troops) on their land, the Americans have been fighting an unendless war for almost two decades, some Afghans were celebrating the Taliban's network even when their benefactors were dying for given them Libra society. There is no difference between the civilians and the talibans, they leave among the people,Americans can't be fighting or bombing in the residential buildings, some of the Talibans leaves on mountains that are surrounded by civilians who leaves there,The Foreign troops have been training the Afghan military for years but I still don't know why all the resources used on them has been a waste. Personally,if Americans stays another 20 years in Afghanistan, the Talibans will still overthrow the government as long as the country's military are not ready to take charge of their country's security architecture and the civilians are celebrating their oppressors.

Nairaland / General / Afghanistan: Soldiers Flee To Tajikistan After Militant Clashes by allsubjects(m): 3:01pm On Jul 05, 2021
More than 1,000 Afghan soldiers have fled to neighbouring Tajikistan after clashing with Taliban militants, officials have said. The troops retreated over the border to "save their own lives", according to a statement by Tajikistan's border guard. Violence has risen in Afghanistan, with the Taliban launching attacks and taking more territory in recent weeks.
The surge coincides with the end of Nato's 20-year military mission in the country. The vast majority of remaining foreign forces in Afghanistan have been withdrawn ahead of a September deadline, and there are concerns that the Afghan military will collapse. Under a deal with the Taliban, the US and its Nato allies agreed to withdraw all troops in return for a commitment by the militants not to allow al-Qaeda or any other extremist group to operate in the areas they control.
But the Taliban did not agree to stop fighting Afghan forces, and now reportedly control about a third of the country. For the people of Afghanistan, it is a worrying time, says Lyse Doucet, the BBC's chief international correspondent. The Taliban, which have been accused of various human rights and cultural abuses, supports Islamic punishments - such as public executions of convicted murderers - as well as banning television, music and cinema, and disapproving of girls over 10 going to school. "They are uncertain about where their country is heading, uncertain about their own village or town or city, and uncertain about their own lives and the futures of their families," she said. But Afghan President Ashraf Ghani insists that the country's security forces are fully capable of keeping insurgents at bay, however there have also been reports of more soldiers seeking refuge in Pakistan and Uzbekistan to escape the fighting. This is the third time Afghan soldiers have fled into Tajikistan over the past three days and the fifth case over the past fortnight. It has brought the total number of soldiers who retreated to Tajikistan to nearly 1,600. The latest group of Afghan troops sought refuge early on Monday morning after fighting with militants during the night, Tajikistan's National Security Committee said in a statement that was reported by the Tajik state-run news agency Khovar.
US-led forces ousted the Taliban from power in Afghanistan in 2001. The group had been harbouring Osama Bin Laden and other al-Qaeda figures linked to the 9/11 attacks in the US that triggered the invasion. However it has gradually regained enough strength to seize territory again. The Taliban entered direct talks with the US back in 2018, and President Joe Biden has said the American pull-out is justified as US forces have made sure Afghanistan cannot become a base for foreign jihadists to plot against the West again.
Nairaland / General / France Dumped Out As Mbappe Penalty Saved by allsubjects(m): 11:17pm On Jun 28, 2021
That was incredible penalty save from the Switzerland goalkeeper to deny Kylian Mbappe and France all the glory. it was an immensely deserved win for the Swiss after they worked tirelessly throughout the 120 minutes and shootout, scoring all five of their penalties perfectly, and they will now meet Spain in the quarter-finals.
France will be hugely disappointed, but Switzerland showed so much fight after going 3-1 to get the better of the world champions.

I am a Chelsea fan but tonight match was boring, I don't just understand what the coach want to get from the useless midfield, very useless play, they played like a local team, they should have been punished for it,no creativity, very useless forwards, mount had limited chances in going forward because he was used in the midfield which he wasn't too effective like playing from the wing,if they continue to play like this, they might not make the fans happy at the end of the season.

Sports / Lampard Out As Chelsea Manager; Tuchel In As Replacement - Sources by allsubjects(m): 12:44pm On Jan 25, 2021
The move comes after Chelsea beat Luton Town 3-1 in Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round clash at Stamford Bridge but following a serious downturn in Premier League form, losing five of their past seven games.

ESPN reported recently that Chelsea were torn over the future direction of the club having become frustrated with a lack of progress under Lampard despite spending £220 million in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea had approached former RB Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick to take the job on a temporary basis but he ruled himself out of the running. They also sounded out current Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann over whether he would be prepared to leave the club mid-season but sources have confirmed that he also dismissed Chelsea's interest.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Trump: "Results Coming Next Week, We Are Making Big Progress; We Will Win!" by allsubjects(m): 10:36pm On Nov 10, 2020
Personally as a political scientist,I so much love President Trump and I wanted him to win the election but the issue is most of his evidence are baseless.
Electoral fraud is very rare in the United States - the rate is less than 0.0009%, according to a 2017 study by the Brennan Center for Justice. There's no evidence to suggest it's been a major issue at this election either. The president Trump himself has voted by post in the past. He lived outside the state he was registered in, Florida, and requested a postal vote. This is known as an absentee ballot, which Mr Trump has said he is in favour of because he believes it has better safeguards. There's evidence from the vote count that this is what has happened - Democratic voters favoured voting by post and Republicans voted on the day in person.
Voting by mail is not new - it has been used for many elections.
The supreme court will have the final decision or a recount .

Nairaland / General / Adunni Oluwole -the Woman Who Warned Against This Independence by allsubjects(m): 8:13am On Oct 01, 2020
Adunni Oluwole (1905-1957) was a Nigerian pre-independence politician and human rights activist who vehemently opposed independence. She was born in Ibadan, Oyo State and was raised in Aroloyo, Lagos State. She was an itinerant preacher whose talent in public speaking contributed to her fame. She delved into politics in 1954, and founded the Nigerian Commoners Liberal Party. She died in 1957 after a brief illness.
Early Life And Education
Adunni Oluwole was born in Ibadan in 1905 to the family of an Ibadan warrior. After some family squabbles, her mother moved with her and her siblings to Aroloya, Lagos where they lived close to St. John's church. Adolphus Howells, the Vicar, contributed to the family's development while they remained in the area. She lived with Howells, who enrolled her in St. John's School, Aroloya. She however returned to her mother after her primary education.
From 1925 to 1932, Oluwole took part in leadership and dramatic roles in St. John's church. As a youth, she wrote a play for the Girl's Guild which was directed by the nationalist Herbert Macaulay. She went on to establish the first female-owned professional theater in Western Nigeria.
Oluwole soon after became an itinerant preacher. She vehemently opposed bringing dead bodies into the church for funerals, claiming to have seen a vision from God saying that He was God of the living not the dead. Her public speaking prowess gained her a vast audience and increased her popularity.
Political Career
Oluwole's foray into politics began with the general workers strike of 1945; moved by the plight of the poor, she supported the workers, mobilizing women supporters and donating monetary gifts though she was not a rich woman. In 1954, she founded the Nigerian Commoners Liberal Party, the majority of whose members were men. Barely five months after it was established, it won a seat in Ikirun, Osun North, defeating the NCNC and AG.
Oluwole was an anti-independence activist and opposed the vote for independence when a date was first proposed in 1956. Her reasons were that the politicians who were given power abused it and were simply African colonialists. Her message resonated with the rural people and they came to be known among Yoruba-speaking groups as "Egbe Koyinbo Mailo" which translates to "The White Man Must Not Go". The party was short-lived as it had to be shut down due to low funding. In 1955, she went before the Olubadan in Ibadan to air her political views, but she was shut down by Adelabu Adegoke who called her a harlot and threatened to hit her with broomsticks. She was later banished from Ibadan and relocated to Akure where she continued to spread her anti-independence message.Oluwole was also an advocate for women's rights and she continuously demanded women's participation in politics in constitutional conferences.
The truth of the matter is that since the 1960 independence flag went up, Nigeria has not known real peace or seen development. The late Afro Beat King Fela Anikulapo in another seeming post-humus agreement with Adunni sang in “Just Like That”:
“White man rule us many years we get electricity constantly"
"Our people take over dem come build Kainji Dam Since dem build the Dam no electricity for town”
Recently we experienced a nationwide blackout occasioned by the collapse of the national grid in the midst of our national greed. Adunni should be laughing at us hereafter as we queue, sweat and shuffle at filling stations 60 years after independence in a country that is the sixth largest exporter of crude but cannot refine petroleum products for her domestic consumption. It only has the capacity to destroy refineries being operated by militants in the creeks instead of asking them how they get the refineries to work. Gen.Oduoye once said that Biafra that was not a fully formed country did not experience fuel shortage or a scarity throughout the period of the civil war!
Nigeria is Africa's largest economy and the continent's biggest oil producer,But it is a country where more than half the population lives in poverty, and 60% of the urban population cannot afford the cheapest house. There are also some very rich Nigerians indeed and the gap between rich and poor is all too clear to see in the country's largest cities. There's certainly a widespread perception that inequality is getting worse."Nigeria has a long history of mismanagement, corruption and disregard for due process" that has contributed to the high number of people living in poverty,
As for the gap between rich and poor, Nigerian economist Bismarck Rewane estimates that only 5% of the population controls roughly about 40% of Nigeria's wealth.Poverty-reduction policies do exist, he says, but they are not backed up by the political will or the good governance to implement them.

Brother, that's how they are,It will now look like the government is compassionate, please come to Ekiti State and see how people are suffering and lavishing in poverty. Thousands of graduates are unemployed and even those that are employed are under paid (10-15k),lack of capital is a major obstacle to those who want to be self-employed. The current administration, passed administrations and even the individuals are all at fault.
NOTE: Many trends like this will still be opened on Nairaland.

Nairaland / General / The Unemployment Situation In Nigeria by allsubjects(m): 8:00pm On Feb 27, 2018
Good evening my fellow nairalanders, hope you had a great day.please,I want us to discuss the issue of unemployment in our great country. Both the past and present administrations have tried their possible best to reduce the level of unemployment in this country.the present government have device some form of policies to engage the youth, which include the subsidy investment program, the Npower program of the federal government is a good initiative, although personally,I think it should have been a form of employment rather than empowerment. There are thousands of youth out there that are willing to work but unable to secure a job. Both the present and previous administrations have always encouraged the youth to go into Agriculture, small scale businesses and even aquire various skills but the question is,are there any incentive given to youth who are willing to go into this things, not forgetting that every body can't engage in agriculture due to one or two reasons. what did you think the government is doing or should do to reduce unemployment in our country?

Education / NUC Gets 240 Applications For New Varsities by allsubjects(m): 10:48am On Aug 02, 2017
The National Universities Commission has said it is currently processing applications from 240 individuals and organisations to establish private universities in the country .
The NUC Executive Secretary , Prof . Abubakar Rasheed , said this on Tuesday while meeting with bursars from about 40 federal universities in Abuja.
Rasheed , who urged the bursars to be honest and thorough in financial allocations to their universities , said it was embarrassing that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission found corrupt practices in the university financial system .
He said , “Interactions of this nature are to improve our country ’ s university system . It may be of interest to you that the university system in Nigeria is growing . We have as of today 153 universities . We have federal , state and private universities .
“ We have 68 private universities which is the highest of the three categories . And the number is growing because the NUC is currently processing over 240 applications for private universities in the country .
“ We decided to invite all of you , federal universities ’ bursars . There are many areas where you have to put your heads together . ”
The NUC boss noted that the EFCC Acting Chairman , Ibrahim Magu , would visit the NUC to discuss the investigations of some VCs among other issues.
“ The EFCC is investigating so many universities as you are aware . One of the areas being investigated by the EFCC is the furniture allowance . Many universities fail to interpret what we mean by the furniture allowance . Common sense tells us that the government will never allocate N5 . 77 m as furniture allowance to any VC.
“ Yet, many bursars in many universities allow vice -chancellors to take N480, 000 monthly as furniture allowance and you know it is wrong . This is why whenever the EFCC comes , there is crisis , and the VCs and the bursars are the easy targets. This interaction is to address these issues, ” he added.
Family / A Good Woman by allsubjects(m): 1:05pm On Jul 14, 2017
From Mrs Joyce Meyer
USA TV Evangelist

A GOOD WOMAN, MAKES A GOOD WIFE AND A GOOD WIFE BECOMES A GOOD MOTHER.
A GOOD MOTHER GIVES BIRTH TO A GOOD CHILD. IF YOU WANT TO BE ONE EMULATE THESE STEPS BELLOW:

1). Never raise your voice for any reason to your husband. Its a sign of disrespect.

2). Don't expose your husband's weaknesses to your family and friends. It will bounce back at you. You are each other's keeper.

3). Never use attitudes and moods to communicate to your husband, you never know how your husband will interpret
them. Defensive women don't have a happy home.

4). Never compare your husband to other men, you've no idea what their life is all about. If you attack his Ego, his Love for you will diminish.

5). Never ill treat your husband's friends because you don't like them, the person who's supposed to get rid of them is your husband.

6). Never forget that your husband married you, not your maid or anyone else. Do your duties.

7). Never assign anyone to give attention to your husband, people may do everything else but your husband is your own responsibility.

cool. Never blame your husband if he comes back home empty handed. Rather encourage him.

9). Never be a wasteful wife, your husband's sweat is too precious to be wasted.

10). Never pretend to be sick for the purpose of denying your husband's right. You must give it to him how he wants it. It's very important to Men, if you keep denying him, it is a matter of time before another woman takes over that duty. No man can withstand on starvation for too long (even the anointed
ones)

11). Never compare your husband to your one time Ex-lover. Your home may Never recover from it if you do.

12). Never answer for your husband in public opinion polls, let him handle what is directed to him although he may answer for you in public opinion polls.

13). Never shout or challenge your husband in front of children. Wise Women don't do that.

14). Don't forget to check the smartness of your husband before he checks out.

15). Never allow your friends to be too close to your husband.

16). Never be in a hurry in the bathroom and on the dressing table. Out there your husband is always surrounded by women who took their time on their looks.

17). Your parents or family or friends do not have the final say in your marriage. Don't waste your time looking up to them for a final word. You must Leave if you want to Cleave.

18). Never base your love on monetary things. Will you still submit to him even if you earn more money than him?

19). Don't forget that husbands want attention and good listeners, never be too busy for him. Good communication is the bed rock of every happy home.

20). If your idea worked better than his, never compare yourself to him. Its always team work.

21). Don't be too judgmental to your husband. No man wants a Nagging wife.

22). A lazy wife is a careless wife. She doesn't even know that her body needs a bath.

23). Does your husband like a kind of cooked food? Try to change your cooking. No man jokes with food.

24). Never be too demanding to your husband, enjoy every moment, resource as it comes.

25). Make a glass of water the very first welcome to your husband and everyone entering your home. Sweetness of attitude is true beauty.

26). Don't associate with women who have a wrong mental attitude about marriage.

27). Your marriage is as valuable to you as the value that you give it. Recklessness is unacceptable.

28) A confrontational wife, can never keep a good husband and her home, she will be grooming irresponsible daughters without manners.

29) A woman who cannot manage her children, home and husband is a complete failure in life no matter her achievements.

30) A wise woman honors her husband, and respect him, in turn the husband will cherish her and love her dearly - it will be natural. Husband is a beautiful gift from God, no woman can stay without a husband. No good man on earth can tolerate a confrontational and argumentative wife except they have lost their value and become less of a real man.

31). Fruit of the womb is a blessing from the Lord, love your children and teach them well.

32). You are never too old to influence your home. Never reduce your care for your family for any reason.

33). A prayerful wife is very wise and intelligent and she is a better equipped wife, pray always for your husband and family. Conquer all your challenges and problems with prayers, only Christ can solve our problems - not parent, not pastors, not anybody but, only you and Christ.

Send it to every woman you know. You never know whose marriage you are about to save. And to every man so that the women in their lives can be better guided.
