Celebrities / A Letter To Huddah Monroe by ALocoVivaVoce: 8:31am On Jan 22, 2016
Dear Huddah,

Happy New Year to you first of all and I hope you enjoyed the holidays. As a matter of fact, judging from your Instagram pictures, we can all tell you enjoyed the holidays.

I must say that I have followed you on your quest to becoming a celebrity and now that you have somewhat arrived at stardom, I cannot help but wonder if the end justifies the means.

To this regard, I am writing this letter with the hopes of discovering the real Huddah Monroe and what makes her tick other than the flamboyant, lavish, sultry, inappropriate, make-believe lifestyle you flash all over social media.

Is there really any more to the infamous Huddah? Or are you exactly what your Instagram page or basically the entire Google search page makes of you?

Let me bring my oblivious readers up to speed.

Family / I Married Him Out Of Peer Pressure. Help! by ALocoVivaVoce: 8:24am On Jan 22, 2016
Hello guys, it’s Feature Friday! Every Friday I would be sharing a real life experience and situation of a reader who needs my opinion. If you have a situation that you need my opinion on, email me on featurefriday@alocovivavoce.com.

Read the situation and my opinion below. The names have been changed to protect the identity of the person being featured. Enjoy!

Hello OUR,

My name is Adriana and I recently got married to a man I would probably not even speak to on a normal day. The thing is I am Ibo, twenty eight years old and the first girl (Ada) so you must know how much pressure is on me to get married.

To top it all off, all my cousins the same age as me got married in the same year and my parents kept pestering me and repeating the very famous line “we want to carry our grandchild”.

Fast forward a year later, I eventually married a VERY CHUBBY, DARK SKINNED MAN who is twice my age and had been stalking me for marriage for so many years. My parents were of the opinion that since my Mr. Right isn’t forthcoming, I should go ahead and marry any Mr. and make him right for me.

Nairaland / General / The Nigerian Craze Of Living Abroad by ALocoVivaVoce: 11:03am On Jan 20, 2016
Hello guys,

I hope the new year is treating you well thus far. Firstly, I must apologize for being MIA for the past couple of days. Sadly, I was down with travelers diarrhea after returning from a trip to Dubai with my family.

I feel much better now and to be honest, I am kind of glad nature assisted as a purgative for all the “ijekuje” I ate whilst abroad.

Obviously, my trip is what inspired today’s post because it reminded me of when I was much younger and people would apply for an American Visa Lottery and literally spend their last in hopes of going to the land of “greener pastures” where they ignorantly believe manner falls from heaven.

Celebrities / The Consistently Controversial “next Rated” Headies Award by ALocoVivaVoce: 9:35am On Jan 08, 2016
Happy New year people, I know we are still on the TOP TEN New Year Re-post Day 4 http://alocovivavoce.com/category/posts/new-year-re-post/2015/ but I just had to say something about this trending issue in the Nigerian entertainment industry; hence the double post.

Initially when this issue sprang up about Olamide pulling a Kanye West at the Headies last weekend and Don Jazzy retaliating by pulling an even more silly Kanye West with his response, I wanted to write a post blasting both parties involved for acting like teenagers but after their reconciliation, I figured I should just let them be since they took the bold step by choosing to put the entire madness behind them.

As much as they are no longer beefing or cursing themselves out on social media, I cannot help but wonder why there really is so much attachment to this supposed “Next Rated Award”. Is it because of the car the winner receives? Or is the hype because of the plaque? Or is it because you get to stand on stage and give an acceptance speech? What exactly is all the hype about because frankly, I do not understand?

Nairaland / General / The Secret To Keeping A New Year’s Resolution by ALocoVivaVoce: 9:00am On Dec 30, 2015
A New Year’s resolution is a tradition in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement beginning from New Year’s Day. -Wikipedia

The above definition is the “official” definition of New Year’s resolution but going by reality, New Year’s resolution is basically defined as the first few weeks or at most, the first few months of a year in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement.

I am pretty sure everyone can relate more to the second definition than the first.

Politics / Would You Vote For A Female President? by ALocoVivaVoce: 8:35am On Dec 29, 2015
Hello readers, welcome to another Poll Tuesday on A Loco Viva Voce.

Last week, I asked you how high your sex drive was and it is quite relieving to know that majority are not nymphomaniacs or satyriasis but can go without sex for a long time if their partner is not around.

Although 14% said they do not even get the point of sex and I wonder if they’re even doing the whole thing right in the first place.

Today’s poll is basically the same question that was the topic of last week’s post “Would you vote for a female President?“. Click the link to read the post if you haven’t http://alocovivavoce.com/2015/12/21/would-you-vote-for-a-female-president/

I stated in the post that I am undecided but how about you, would you?

Happy voting!

Family / Feminism Vs Submissiveness – A Thin Line! by ALocoVivaVoce: 8:56am On Dec 23, 2015
Feminism is a range of movements and ideologies that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve equal political, economic, cultural, personal, and social rights for women.” – Wikipedia

To be submissive is to obey or yield to someone else.

For the purpose of this post, the word submissive is being used to refer to women who are married to a male partner and also happen to be devoted feminists.

As a woman and as an advocate of feminism, how do you reconcile your need to for equal rights with the biblical need to submit yourself to a man; your husband.

Politics / Would You Vote For A Female President? by ALocoVivaVoce: 9:32am On Dec 21, 2015
A couple of months ago, popular rapper T.I. made a very controversial statement when he said he would never vote for a woman President because women are too emotional. Read his full statement below:

“Not to be sexist but, I can’t vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman. Just because, every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well. But the president? It’s kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally – they make very permanent, cemented decisions – and then later, it’s kind of like it didn’t happen, or they didn’t mean for it to happen. And I sure would hate to just set off a nuke. [Other leaders] will not be able to negotiate the right kinds of foreign policy; the world ain’t ready yet. I think you might be able to the Lochness Monster elected before you could get a woman.”

Although he has long apologized for his statement, it begs me to ask the question, Would you vote for a female President IN NIGERIA?

REGRETS

The deepest sigh wouldn’t solve a thing
The deeds are done and this feeling they bring
That little voice could have been shut when it started to sing-
And then cast away like a stone from a sling

In the mind, distortions surge
As the desperate need to satisfy urge
Has cost the being to wish he could regress-
Certain acts or even thoughts at the time he was depressed.
