From Nigeria, it looks like once you japa, all your problems are solved.

But the truth?
There’s a dark side of living abroad many Nigerians don’t talk about — especially those already there.


Let’s be honest.


1. Loneliness Will Deal With You


In Nigeria, even if you’re broke, you have people. Neighbours, family, friends, noise, gist.
Abroad?

You can stay months without real human connection.
Everyone is busy. Everyone is tired. Everyone minds their business.


Many Nigerians abroad battle silent depression, but won’t say it because they don’t want people back home saying “you wanted to japa, now see you.”


2. You’ll Work Jobs You Never Imagined
That “abroad” dignity fades fast.
Doctors become caregivers.
Engineers wash dishes.
Graduates do night shifts nobody wants.


Nothing is wrong with honest work — but the mental shock is real, especially when you remember how people respected you back home.


3. Bills Will Humble You
Yes, currency is strong — but expenses are stronger.
Rent.
Tax.
Insurance.
Transport.
Utilities.
You may earn well, yet still be one emergency away from crisis.

That’s why some Nigerians abroad can’t send money home as often as people think.

A major storm is hitting the US, leaving at least seven people dead and hundreds of thousands without power

Schools and roads across the country have been closed and flights have been cancelled

Warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS) stretch from Texas in the south to New England in the north-east

At least two people have died of hypothermia in Louisiana, and other deaths linked to the storm have been reported in Texas, Tennessee and Kansas

Hazardous ice, sub-zero temperatures and up to 79cm of snow: A look at the storm's impact


It is no surprise that the most significant snowfall of all in the US has been seen over high ground – with 31in (79cm) of snow recorded at Bonito Lake, high up in the mountains of New Mexico and 23in (58cm) at Crested Butte in the Rocky Mountains, in Colorado.

But this storm has brought disruption to a much wider area with the US National Weather service reporting 17in (43cm) of snow in Boston (Massachusetts), 12in (30cm) at Newark (New Jersey) and over 11in (28cm) at Central Park in the heart of New York City.

Significant snow was also reported in states further south, including Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Freezing rain brought hazardous ice and dangerous travel conditions, and Monday morning temperatures are below freezing, even along large swathes of the Gulf coast.


Deadly winter storm engulfs large parts of the US

Tennessee worst hit by power outages

In Nashville, Tennessee, a tree fell near power lines during the storm over the weekend

There are still more than 800,000 people currently experiencing power outages because of the winter storm, according to poweroutage.us.

Tennessee is the worst affected state, with nearly 250,000 customers currently without electricity.

Some 157,000 are without power in Mississippi and more than 100,000 in Louisiana, with East Carroll Country the worst affected area in the state.

Over the weekend, a powerful storm travelled across the US.

Heavy snow, ice and dangerously low temperatures were felt in large swathes of the country, from Texas to New England.

Almost half of US states declare weather emergency

Twenty-three states, plus Washington DC, have declared states of emergency due to the freezing conditions, with at least 10 activating their National Guards, according to our US partner CBS News.

States of emergency were declared in: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

Funny enough I was in Uni ibadan within 1990-1995 and within that faculty, probably my poor memory may not let me remember the man, but if I make one or two calls I can give you full details of that family from other friends who's parents were lecturers at that time.

Did you watch the interview of Dr Adeleke, if you did, then watch it again, this time slowly.

The man said he took David for the appointment, saliva samples was taken in the presence of himself and the girl's mother, (note that girl lied that it was blood sample). The hospital then sent the samples to South Africa for test.

Is it that you are not aware that no DNA sample is analyzed in Nigeria? What happens is that centers in Nigeria get affiliate labs abroad, they collect samples and send to this labs for analysis. The result is the sent back sealed.
Did you listen to the part where Dr Adeleke said the hospital made him and the girls mother sign for the samples and that the results on being ready will only be opened in the presence of both parties? When the result was ready, both parties were invited ie the girls mother and Dr adeleke, in their presence the results was opened and it was seen that the child was not David's. The mother fell in the floor and broke down in tears. Dd you hear the part that despite that, David's father asked that they remained in Lagos, he arranged hotel and upkeep money for them, that they should look for 2 or more test centers of their choice, that he will make David available again to do test, but to his surprise, he found out the girls mother left for ibadan!.

Did you hear Dr adeleke say if the child's had been theirs they will be fighting for custody? Oga, do you want David or the adelekes to accept a child that is not theirs either david slept with her or not?

See, I think enough is enough, the adelekes should put a stop to this gold digger without malice. They should go full legal, infact petition the security agencies, afterall we have the social media criminal laws. That girl must proof that David is the father of her puppy and if for what ever reason David has to do a test again, there has to be full prosecution of the girl for making false allegations, attempted paternity fraud, defamation, actions likely to cause breakdown of public peace and many other charges.

The Adeleke must break and disengage from any sort of assistance for that girl or her child.

This round of demolition exercise could surely have been averted if the builders and developers abode by the stipulated coastal or water front setback.

Even though the demolished buildings had to be brought down because of obvious structural deficiencies, many buildings still standing on the estate are still too close to the water front, it's a question of time before they too will start tilting.
