xxxx999jon: am from Badagry..and Badagry is not Yoruba land is Gunnu land ..you can't tell me about my own land we don't have Oba in Badagry..we have no connection with ileife, our roots is Fon and we migrate from Abomey in Benin republic. there are Yorubas in Benin republic too that migrated from ileife ..one of Oduduwa 7 sons is Alaketu of Ketu..in BENIN republic which is where ketu in lagos got its name from .
Emmah123: In Lagos state chieftaincy, Oba and Akran are two different kingship titles domiciled in Lagos state. There's no such thing as Oba Akran. You're either an Oba or an Akran. The fact that Journalists are novice to this does not make it correct. The title given to the late king is Akran of Badagry. People try to insert "Oba" into the title to let others know they are refering to a king as the title Akran is not so popular among many Nigerians.
Ogu/Egun is considered a separate tribe at least in Larger Lagos and not a subdivision/dialect of Yoruba unlike the Ijebus etc as someone mentiomed up there.
I'm from the Ogu/Egun tribe in Ogun state. We've been having problems having a king in my town because Ogun state government has not been able to domicile "Akran" as a recognized kingship title unlike Lagos state. We cannot as well accept "Oba" title because that would automatically make us Yoruba and subotdinate to Yoruba kings and would erase our tribe.
Christlike01: It is an Egun name. However, the truth is that the Egun people see themselves as a sub-group of the larger Yoruba ethnic group now. As a royal from Lagos, I can state this authoritatively—there is no one from Badagry who does not speak the Yoruba language fluently, including the late Akran. Also, there are indigenous Yoruba natives of Badagry.
treesun: Lagos has been thrown into mourning following the passing of the traditional ruler of the Badagry Kingdom, the Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi, who died at the age of 89 after a brief illness.
The demise of the monarch marks the end of a remarkable 48-year reign on the throne, making him one of the longest-serving traditional rulers in Lagos State.
According to the palace, the Akran was pronounced dead by medical experts, and traditional rites for his burial have gradually commenced.
Residents of Badagry, who are currently mourning the loss of their revered monarch, described his death as a heavy blow, noting that the town has lost not just a king but a father figure whose wisdom, counsel and presence brought reassurance in moments of uncertainty.
Lanrelagboi: The Federal Government has proposed to allocate N102.3 billion as counterpart funding for the Lagos Green Line rail project in the 2026 budget.
This is according to data from the 2026 Appropriation Bill under the Ministry of Transportation.
The Green Line is a 68-kilometre rail network running from the Lekki Free Zone to Marina and will connect major parts of Lagos, including Victoria Island (VI), Lekki, and Ajah.
What the 2026 Appropriation Bill document is saying Details in the 2026 Appropriation Bill show that the N102.3 billion allocation is earmarked for Phase One of the Lagos Green Line Metro Rail project.
The project was allocated N146.14 billion as counterpart funding in the 2025 budget proposal as well.
The funds are to be transferred to the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), which manages Federal Government equity participation, counterpart funding, and structured financing for major infrastructure projects.
This funding structure suggests continued reliance on structured financing arrangements, likely involving the Lagos State Government and other financiers.
In addition, the Federal Government plans to spend N68.5 billion under project code ERGP13247529 on consultancy services for the Lekki–Ijebu Ode–Ore–Kajola railway and the coastal railway corridor linking Badagry, Apapa, and Tin Can.
Other rail projects in the 2026 budget The 2026 budget proposal also provides N29.04 billion under project code ERGP13177707 for ongoing and planned railway modernisation projects.
The allocation covers the completion of the Abuja–Kaduna railway, additional works on the Lagos–Ibadan rail line, and the rehabilitation of the Itakpe–Ajaokuta rail corridor. It also includes the construction of 12 station buildings and track-laying works at ancillary rail facilities in Agbor.
The same budget line provides for the design, manufacture, and installation of rolling stock, as well as the supply of spare parts and maintenance equipment.
It further includes funding for signalling and telecommunications systems on the Itakpe–Ajaokuta–Warri rail line and the deployment of acoustic sensing security surveillance systems on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor. In addition, the budget makes provision for feasibility studies for new standard-gauge rail lines and the engagement of transaction advisers for the concession of the Abuja–Baro–Itakpe, Aladja–Warri Port, and Kano–Maradi rail projects.
What you should know The Lagos Green Line rail is a proposed $3 billion, 70-kilometre network stretching from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, with 17 stations along a mix of elevated and at-grade tracks.
It is planned to connect key areas, including Victoria Island, Ajah, Sangotedo, and the Lekki Free Zone, with modern station facilities, pedestrian bridges, elevators, escalators, and a depot near Sangotedo. Construction was initially scheduled to begin in December 2025 after extensive feasibility studies and stakeholder consultations along the Lekki-Epe corridor. As of January 11, 2026, work has not yet started, though plans are underway.
Trains are expected to operate in eight-car B-type sets, reaching 100 km/h, with a minimum headway of three minutes and a projected capacity of 35,000 passengers per hour per direction. The first phase will cover the stretch from Lekki First Tollgate to Epe, while the second phase from Marina will include an on-water segment. Experts have raised concerns about station spacing and operational capacity, noting that sparse coverage in Victoria Island and wide gaps along Lekki could limit ridership. Adding stations in high-traffic areas and integrating operations with existing lines were recommended to improve accessibility and efficiency.

simpleseyi: . Haven’t you seen that we have stripped Kwakwanso nakked at the market square? It’s same way we stripped Jonathan nakked when he started doing night meetings with our enemies, we moved every political office holder in his home state to APC; have you heard Jonathan for President since that time? It’s the same thing we just did for Kwakwanso, we have merged the Kwakwanssiyya movement with Team JAGABAN, anyone who is not with Team JAGABAN in Kano is not in Kwakwanssiyya. So Kwakwanso is currently an orphan and also a barren. Next, you will see Atiku’s state governor, that’s the governor of Adamawa sign for Team JAGABAN, or don’t you wonder why the guy has been silent since? Isn’t he supposed to have moved with Atiku to ADC? But he is currently doing his medicals with our team doctor.
Dpsychologist: A lot of people are misbehaving online today because of Facebook monetisation, TikTok live gifts, clout, and small change. Many wantto trend and not thinking long-term.
Here’s the problem: The internet has permanent memory. No delete button. No forgiveness mode.
What you post today for likes will become evidence tomorrow. What you say today for money will become history your children will Google.
Look at Lana Rhoades. One of the most watched adult film actresses in the world. Entered the industry at 19 broke, young, claimed she was manipulated. Today she’s a mother. And now she’s begging for over 400 videos to be taken down because she’s scared her son will see them.
Sounds human, right? But here’s reality: The internet doesn’t care about growth. It doesn’t care about regret. It doesn’t care about explanations.
dre11: PREMIUM TIMES revealed how Ms Adeosun skipped the mandatory national youth service and procured a forged certificate purporting to exempt her from the one-year exercise.
Is it too difficult for these IRRESPONSIBLE people and the lemmings lashing out at Kemi Adeosun right from the first page of this thread here to understand?
Kemi Adeosun is NOT a full Nigerian citizen by birth BUT a British woman so she NEVER had any reason to go to Nigeria for any so-called NYSC since she NEVER for once schooled in Nigeria. I wrote about this years back that Kemi's parents who are ORIGINALLY from Ogun Waterside in Ogun State migrated to the United Kingdom in the early 1960s for further studies and have NEVER returned to settle in Nigeria. Kemi's family house too is still in the UK. NYSC is NOT meant for British-Nigerians of Nigerian-Americans who NEVER schooled in Nigerian from the Primary Schools to High School to the University. Kemi NEVER attended any of these in Nigeria and is therefore exempt from ALL these irresponsible speculations from a lame section of the Nigerian junk media!
Kemi ONLY visited Nigeria for the first time ever at the age of 18 years on a short holiday to know her ancestral roots and returned to England where she performed brilliantly in the University and was headhunted by Arthur Andersen where she worked for many years I'm English.
It was Kemi's marriage to a Nigerian of Yoruba descent that eventually made her to relocate to Nigeria after 10 years of marriage BECAUSE she WANTED stability for her family instead of having her husband flying in from Nigeria to see his family.
Last but NOT least, the NYSC DG at the time the NYSC exemption certificate issue broke CLEARLY stated that indeed the NYSC official documents or database shows to Kemi Adeosun officially and properly applied for an NYSC exemption document (because at that time, Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun was about to make her the Commissioner for Budget and Planning), the final exemption certificate NYSC gave to Kemi was NOT origin.
It's therefore NOT the fault of Kemi Adeosun that the irresponsible official of NYSC presented her with a forged document, it's the NYSC's fault.
It's time for Kemi Adeosun (whose older brother is a prominent legal practitioner), to immediately file defamation suits against Premium Times and anybody or blogs or media outlets spreading relentless disinformation about her.
I've known Kemi Adeosun and her pedigree for years and I think she should file charges against the NYSC officials for embarrassing her and bungling up her SIMPLE request for an NYSC exemption certificate. INFACT Kemi Adeosun had NO need for it because she's a British woman and NEVER for once in her life schooled in Nigeria. This is the problem Diasporans face when applying for one official documentation in Nigeria as you could end up being given a forged document so everyone has to be very careful. Period.
Kemi Adeosun is a brilliant British woman and fantastic technocrat who NEVER engaged in any crimes and got massive commendationd from Arthur Andersen on London where she worked for many years at senior management level before resigning to join her spouse in Nigeria. Bad comprehension skills is the major problem a lot of these young people criticizing Kemi have.
Donald Trump is NOT gonna be removing the current Nigerian President 'Bola Ahmed Tinubu now or in the near future. For those of us who understand the global geopolitical dynamics, the indices aren't there!
It's time for the intelligence agencies in Nigeria to take this guy down because he relentlessly engages in guestimates... A lot of random guessworks. It's unkind that law enforcement agencies continue to allow charlatans to continue to spew out so-called FAKE prophesies and disinformation in order to manipulate the GULLIBLE. It's all mind games. Period.
dfrost: Yes, the road is Federal and runs all through Ibadan-Oyo and terminates at Ogbomosho-Ilorin intersection.
@dfrost
I appreciate your feedback here
I just did more online search using the details you gave here to get some information right BELOW about the road dualization project by RCC which was then terminated and the Nigerian President 'Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved more money amounting to N734 billion for the completion of the road dualization before SEPTEMBER 2026 from Oyo to Ogbomoso (which is the ONLY uncompleted section of the Ibadan to Ilorin). So, kudos to the folks in government for that.
The "new" Ibadan to Oyo road you're asking about likely refers to the ongoing, long-delayed dualization of the Oyo-Ogbomosho (Ibadan-Ilorin) Expressway, which has faced contract issues and abandonment but aims to connect through Ogbomosho towards Ilorin, though specific termination points on major intersections like the Ogbomoso-Ilorin junction are part of the larger expressway's route, not necessarily a separate "new" road ending there. It's a major federal project meant to replace the poor existing road, with recent calls for its completion due to hardships.
A confident lady goes viral explaining why she refuses to cook, do laundry, or clean for her future husband: "I aspire to be a billionaire's wife!" 👑 She argues their mansion will be too big, they'll hire chefs and cleaners, and she's busy building her own empire (an online store aiming to rival Amazon). Her take? Women who handle chores have "nothing else to offer." The woman argues that she refuses to perform traditional domestic tasks like cooking, laundry, or cleaning because she aspires to marry a billionaire (or become one herself through her business ventures). She emphasizes hiring professional services instead, claiming their future home will be too large for her to handle alone. She also implies that women who do these chores lack other value to offer in a relationship, positioning herself as ambitious and independent. The tone is confident and dismissive, likely intended as provocative or humorous content.
Is she onto something, or is this peak delusion? Drop your thoughts below! 👇

pocohantas: Don't stress yourself. Ignore the comments telling you to learn manual because if you learn it and don't drive it actively, it is equal to learning with automatic.
I learned and drove manual for years. I am not sure I have seen anyone around me drive one in the past 7yrs. If the need will come up one day, I don't know.
Looking at the bigger picture.
The young man may NOT be of the same social status with you so he should begin with manual transmission in order to get himself familiar with the fundamentals of driving. From there, he can proceed to learning about automatic transmission which is easy peasy.
Wxstudio: I’m about to start driving lessons and I’m unsure whether to learn manual or automatic. For those who started with manual, was it hard at first? How long did it take you to finally get hold used to it? Do you think it gave you an advantage later, or would you advise a beginner to start with automatic instead?
Learn both... BUT start with the manual transmission in order to understand the fundamentals of driving.
Jakumo: Having spent enough years residing in America and in Nigeria, I disagree 100% with the opinion expressed by this rapper who claims that the USA is more dangerous than Nigeria. If the rapper had claimed that GHETTOES in America are more dangerous than Nigeria, his statement would be factual due to the prevalence of "Saturday Night Special" cheap and disposable $50 handguns in most American ghettoes, where the gang and drug culture has decimated generations of semi-educated black Americans.
From coast to coast USA, the odds of falling victim to gang violence drop off steeply as soon as one leaves the inner-city ghetto, and moves into any middle class suburb, even if that safe haven is just a few blocks from the ghetto's boundary lines.
In Nigeria, however, there is NO "safe neighborhood" because kidnappers and armed robbers can strike anywhere and any time, against any and all Nigerian citizens who cannot afford to have armed police guards. When driving along any highway in Nigeria, the risk of getting ambushed and kidnapped that is prevalent all over Nigeria, simply does NOT exist in ANY American city or rural area.
Unless one is wealthy and connected enough to charter helicopters for routine inter-city travel in Nigeria, literally ANY road trip could wind up becoming a one-way trip into hell. The absence of any such ambush danger along ALL highways in the USA , taken as a single factor of consideration, makes Nigeria orders of magnitude more dangerous than any part of America, including the Deep South.
More than likely, the American rapper visiting Nigeria spent his entire holiday in an up-scale area like Lekki or Victoria Island in Lagos, and on noting that there was no gunplay as is a normal occurrence in American ghetto night clubs, concluded WRONGLY that the entire nation of Nigeria must be safer than his ghetto "hood" stateside.
The young rapper was definitely thinking about the South Side of Chicago or the South Side of Houston when he made that statement. Trust the Nigerian media to put words into his mouth.
There are highways I would NOT ever travel through in Nigeria aside from those located in the West of Nigeria. The West of Nigeria itself isn't entirely fool-proof to kidnappings on the way to Kogi State or the way to Edo State. Parts of Kwara and Niger States are on another level where you can be picked up like a snail by kidnappers and pay huge ransoms from foreign Fula bandits. A former DSS DG, Mike Ejiofor who hails from Iselle Uku in Delta North of Delta State was kidnapped by Fula bandits on the Okene-Abuja highway just a few years ago and I had goosebumps when I saw the video interview he granted.
The East of Nigeria highways have horrendous robbery and kidnap stories around then including the East-West road in Bayelsa State. If the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway gets completed, some young Ijaw kidnappers would use the sections passing through the Ijaw areas of Delta State (Burutu, Forcados, etc), Southern Ijaw areas of Bayelsa State, and the Rivers State sections to kidnap and rob if adequate attention ISN'T paid to increasing the disposable income of those young people. I still recall reading how the younger biological sister of the then sitting Governor Seriake Dickson was kidnapped and for 2 months, she was held by the kidnappers right in Bayelsa State simply because the Governor vowed he wouldn't pay any ransom. Several prominent indigenes of Bayelsa too were kidnapped or had their relatives kidnapped. Samson Siasia's relative too was kidnapped despite all he did for that country in the field of soccer.
