Religion / Re: QUESTION What Makes A Song Fit For A Believer by Alwaystrue(f): 9:00am On Apr 15, 2015
Nice question, @OP. For me as long as it gives glory to God and edifies. Afterall, we use quotes from people who might not even have known God yet the words made some sense.
God can pass his message through even a mad-man. grin

Atimes it makes one wonder then, can you eat food made by an unbeliever? Do we know who made the internet we use to share and receive information? Spray perfume made by a supposed 'atheist'.

I think it all depends on what you do with what you hear, see or use. You cannot really judge the content but you can be edified by the song.

Hurt by Christians (1)

Wednesday, 15 April 2015

'...You, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me.' Psalm 86:17 NIV

Have you been hurt by a Christian who chose to condemn you instead of showing compassion and helping you? Or by someone who neglected you when they should have sought you out, restored you spiritually and returned you to your rightful place in the family of God? Most people who’ve been hurt by other Christians could easily convince a jury that it should never have happened. And the truth is, it shouldn’t. But it did—and reliving it won’t change things. But it will change you—and not for the better.

Stop and think: if you were mugged and taken to the hospital, you wouldn’t spend all your time obsessing about the person who beat you up. No, your main objective would be to recover as quickly as possible and move on. Ironically, with physical wounds we seek help immediately, but with emotional ones we’re inclined to focus on the problem instead of the solution.

So what are you going to do? Here are your options:

(1) Rehearse it. By constantly talking to others about what happened, you empower your pain and keep it alive.
(2) Repress it. David did that: ‘When I kept silent…my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.’ (Psalm 32:3–4 NIV)
(3) Process it. That means being willing to uncover the areas where you were wounded and opening yourself to receive God’s grace. That’s when you discover: ‘He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.’ (Psalm 147:3 NKJV)
(4) Share it. The Bible says, ‘Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed…’ (James 5:16 NIV) If you’re wise you’ll choose options three and four.

Facing Death Without Fear

Friday, 03 April 2015

'...O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy...!' Isaiah 26:19 NRS

Aristotle called death the thing to be feared most because ‘it appears to be the end of everything.’
Jean–Paul Sartre said that death ‘removes all meaning from life.’
Robert Green Ingersoll, one of America’s most outspoken agnostics, unable to offer any words of hope at his brother’s funeral, said, ‘Life is a narrow vale between the cold and barren peaks of two eternities. We strive in vain to look beyond the heights.’
The last words of French humanist François Rabelais were: ‘I go to seek “a Great Perhaps”.’
In Hamlet, Shakespeare describes the afterlife as: ‘The dread of something after death, the undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns.’

Clearly, unbelief isn’t just a miserable way to live; it’s a tragic way to die. A comedian once quipped, ‘I intend to live forever…so far, so good.’ But what if death is different from how the philosophers thought of it? Not just a curse, but a passageway? Instead of a crisis to be avoided, a corner to be turned? What if the cemetery isn’t the domain of the Grim Reaper, but the dominion of the Soul–Keeper who’ll someday soon announce, ‘O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy’?

Paul writes: ‘If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most pitiable. But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.’ (1 Corinthians 15:19–21 NKJV) Death isn’t the ‘great perhaps’. No, your last day on earth will herald the best of all your days!

Study Your Bible (2)

Thursday, 02 April 2015

'I have rejoiced in your decrees as much as in riches.' Psalm 119:14 NLT

Spend time in prayer before you study the Bible. Ask the Lord to cleanse you from all known sin and fill you with the Holy Spirit so that you’ll be in fellowship with Him during your study time. Again, the purpose of Bible study isn’t to get new revelations and new rules; it’s to build a relationship with the Author of the Bible. The Psalmist said, ‘How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed [of] Your Word.’ (Psalm 119:9 NKJV) Sin doesn’t cancel your relationship with Christ, but it hinders your fellowship with Him. You have to be in fellowship with Him to understand and apply His Word.

So before you search the Scriptures, ask God to search your heart. Paul says, ‘A person who isn’t spiritual doesn’t accept the teachings of God’s Spirit… He can’t understand them because a person must be spiritual to evaluate them. “Who has known the mind of the Lord so that he can teach Him?” However, we have the mind of Christ.’ (1 Corinthians 2:14–16 GWT) It’s possible to read the same portion of Scripture many times, yet fail to see what God wants you to see until He ‘opens’ your eyes. Once that happens, your attitude toward Bible study will be transformed.

Like a hungry person at a table overflowing with good food, you’ll relish God’s Word and your faith will grow. As Paul said: ‘…“No one has ever imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But God has shown us these things through the Spirit.’ (1 Corinthians 2:9–10 NCV)

@divinemandate aka Godsgrace2013,
salute received. Long time. Hope you are just awaiting medical confirmation of your 'condition' grin

@rejoice, and so shall you keep rejoicing. What I was trying to bring out from that assignment is this:

I Samuel 1:18
And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad

John 8:56
Your father Abraham rejoiced at the THOUGHT of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad

Romans 4:20
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

Mark 6:41a
Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.

Thanksgiving should be what will preceed the miracles. Once we have received God's word concerning a thing...that SETTLES IT! It is done!

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good - Numbers 23:19

Keep rejoicing dear. Your babies are here.

@iomoge,
Thanks so much for that lovely testimony. Because a doctor has given up on you does not make that the final. I WISH MY PEOPLE HERE WILL JUST GET THIS! Doctors are not GOD! Please let us have some holy anger for once. That is only how far the doctor can help the person. Please let us stop allowing the devil beat us down when we have GOD ALMIGHTY as our FATHER.

@purity,
Please is that what your doctor said? That the only way you can get pregnant is by IVF or the medical way he know is possible for you to conceive is through IVF? See my response above. Let us stop running around anxiously but rather sit down and let God be the one to direct us.
People have conceived without wombs and carried babies in their abdomen.
As long as God has said you will conceive and bear your children, please that settles it. Man can never say no where God has said yes.

Let us glorify God with our lips...

@Arlington,
Thanks so much for popping in. How is the young man doing? We hope you will soon come share the testimony of the twins on the way o. wink

Study Your Bible (1)

Wednesday, 01 April 2015

'Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.' Psalm 119:18 NKJV

Let’s consider some practical suggestions for getting more out of your Bible study: Schedule it. If you don’t, it won’t happen. Learn to say no to unimportant things. For many of us the biggest obstacle to studying the Bible is television; the average person watches over four hours every day. Do the maths: that’s sixty–one days a year—two months! By the age of eighteen, the average person has seen 200,000 acts of violence, including 16,000 murders. And by the age of sixty–five they’ve spent about nine–and–a–half years watching TV.

By contrast, if you went to Sunday school regularly from birth until the age of sixty–five, you’d only have had a total of four months of Bible teaching. No wonder we struggle spiritually. Discipline yourself by setting aside a specific time each day to study your Bible—and let nothing get in the way. And do it when you’re at your best physically, emotionally, and intellectually, not when you’re distracted and hurried. You know if you’re ‘a day person’ or a ‘night person’, so pick the time when you’re most alert.

The spirit may be willing but the flesh is weak, so if you don’t want your study time to turn into ‘snore time’, don’t try to study when you’re tired, or right after a big meal. Keep a notebook to jot down your observations and keep track of what God is saying to you. Writing does three things: it clarifies, reinforces and personalises. Also, ask yourself, ‘What can I take away from this passage?’ It will help to fix God’s Word firmly in your mind and jog your memory regarding what you’re supposed to do about it.

The Scent of Christ

Tuesday, 31 March 2015

'...We are...the aroma of Christ...' 2 Corinthians 2:15 NIV

‘We are…the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved, and those who are perishing. To one, we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life…’ (2 Corinthians 2:15–16 NIV)

When the Roman army won in battle, they paraded their defeated foes through the streets in chains. And as part of the celebration they burned incense on a series of altars throughout the city. That way those who couldn’t see the procession knew the army had triumphed because they could smell the incense.

The aroma was symbolic of their victory—and there’s a lesson here for you. As followers of Christ we’ve been called to carry with us ‘…the fragrance of the knowledge of Him…’ (2 Corinthians 2:14 NIV) Forget Estée Lauder and Chanel No. 5; your life should be so permeated with God’s presence that people around you sense it. After all, you are the most compelling evidence that Jesus is alive and well in His children.

In the great cathedrals of Europe you’ll see beautiful stained glass windows portraying important events in the life of Christ. And while it’s good to appreciate such craftsmanship, God doesn’t need church windows to tell His story. He uses born–again, tuned–in, turned–on believers to do that. Have you ever noticed that the longer some husbands and wives live together, the more they begin to talk and act alike? It’s the same with us: the more time we spend with Jesus, talking to Him, meditating on His Word and basking in His presence, the more people are going to ask, ‘What’s so different about you?’

Good morning 2015 parents,
HWA to all thoe who have and are celebrating their wedding anniversaries, @omowumigan...Omo a de lai pe.

COngrats to the newly discovered bellefuls and for all the already confirmed bellefuls, happy 9 months.

Romans 4:18
When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn't do but on what God said he would do. And so he was made father of a multitude of peoples. God himself said to him, "You're going to have a big family, Abraham!"

I just want to use this scripture to encourage all the people who have chosen to believe 'foolish things' as they have decided to against hope, believe in hope.
I read back and saw the stories of some of the sisters here and the pain they have experienced. Just as a woman is in sorrow when her pain is come but forgets as soon as she is delivered of her child, so shall your stories be.

I need you to understand this:
1 Corinthians 1:26-27
26 For [simply] consider your own call, brethren; not many [of you were considered to be] wise according to human estimates and standards, not many influential and powerful, not many of high and noble birth.

27 [No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame.

You are a wake-up call to medical science, a wake up call to the world that God choses foolish things to confound the wise. When God said children are His gifts and the fruit of the womb His reward, He did not say one has to have a 100% normal monthly cycle or 70% motile sperm or one had to ovulate on a particular day to be fruitful?
God has deliberately chosen you to give science headache on how you were able to conceive, carry to term and delivery easy if not how will scientist eat? You have just given then something else to research and come to a conclusion that indeed God is Sovereign.

So wake up, arise from every bed of sorry and dust yourself off any snide or hurtful remarks for you have been elected based on His call to put to shame the supposedly wise counsels of the world.
Sarah, Rebecca, Hannah, Elizabeth, Mary all did it...God is still in business.

Happy birthday @ aghaibiam and @toni2014. May the Lord supply àll your need.

Good morning parents,
Romans 4:19-20
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:

20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

Who are those considering their bodies or that of their spouses? The bible says its an outcome of a weak faith. One thing i have learnt in this walk is that there is no impossibility with God. Once God says a thing you berra bring your faith on and claim it. Infact, how can He show He is God if it so easy to do?
Look at the much that has happened in the national scene over the last years and be dazed at how fast things change...how much more when it has to do with God? He makes changes at the bat of an eyelid.

Abraham staggered not at God's promise to him. What promise do you have that seems impossible to happen?
Will you consider God and His word or consider your body? Remember, without God you can do nothing. Remain strong in faith giving glory to God. That is all there is. That is what is needed to bring the perfection of what has been promised you...there shall be none barren in thd land for the fruit of the womb is God's reward.

Happy Sunday.

Numbers 17:7-8
7 Moses placed the staffs in the Lord’s presence in the Tabernacle of the Covenant.[c]
8 When he went into the Tabernacle of the Covenant the next day, he found that Aaron’s staff, representing the tribe of Levi, had sprouted, budded, blossomed, and produced ripe almonds!

The Lord God Almighty of this time tomorrow is willing and able to make your fruitful overnight.
You look at yourself today and wonder when will you be able to start the process, you feel left behind right?
Well, Aaron's staff blossomed overnight. It not only conceived, but it became pregnant, delivered and not only one or two but produced ripe fruit. Do you understand what i am saying? You are producing ripe fruit overnight, ready made and worth it. How? Simply believe and stay in God's presence. Only in His presence is light, life and direction.

@All, a word for today:

HOW TO ACCOMPLISH GREAT THINGS (5)

‘…Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other.’ Nehemiah 4:17 NIV

Do you know how Nehemiah’s team rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem? With a sword in one hand and a trowel in the other. Why is that significant? Because even though God gives you the plan, the chances are you’ll have to fight for it. Not everyone wants you to succeed. In fact, some will do everything they can to stop you. That’s when you must constantly remind yourself that God gave you the plan, that He’s on your side, and that if you’re willing to persevere, you’ll win. God guarantees it!

Listen to what Nehemiah’s enemies said about him: ‘It is reported…you are about to become their king and have even appointed prophets to make this proclamation about you in Jerusalem: “There is a king in Judah!” Now this report will get back to the king…’ (Nehemiah 6:6-7 NIV). Nehemiah had to overcome threats and intimidation. He wrote: ‘…They were scheming to harm me; so I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it to go down to you?’’’ (Nehemiah 6:2-3 NIV).

Every minute devoted to your critics is time stolen from your God-given assignment. Don’t step down to their level! It’s not what your enemies say that matters; it’s what you say to yourself when your enemies have finished talking. ‘[Nehemiah] answered them by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success…but as for you, you will have no share in Jerusalem or any claim…to it’’' (Nehemiah 2:20 NIV). Now that’s the winning attitude.

Luke 19:29-36
29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.
31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.
32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.
33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

This message is for a mum and dad out there who looks at the year (like the colt) and wonders? When will I be of value? When will I fulfil the first commandment God gave me to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it? When will I carry a man? When will I too be loosed for use?

Jesus sent his disciples to release the colt that was tied up by someone or some people and at his/their word, not only was the colt untied, it was used to carry the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ Himself and because Jesus is glorified, the colt too enjoyed it.
A 'red carpet' was spread for the colt to step on by honourable men because of who it was carrying.

The Lord hath need of your womb, home, body today. No man can gainsay or reject that. Carry your own 'man' today, you who 'no man has sat upon'. It is your time and season.

The Lord Knows Where You Are

Wednesday, 14 January 2015

'The Lord has need of him.' Luke 19:34 NKJV

Luke records: ‘He sent two of His disciples, saying, “Go into the village…you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you loosing it?’…say to him, ‘Because the Lord has need of it.’”’ (Luke 19:29–31 NKJV) Who notices a donkey tied to a tree in a town where nothing ever seems to happen? Jesus! During the busiest week of His life, on His way to Jerusalem to die, He paused for a lowly colt, saying, ‘Bring him to Me.’

There’s a lesson here for you. Jesus knows where you are today, and when the time is right He will call you. Notice the words, ‘A colt…on which no one has ever sat.’ Maybe that’s because nobody placed much value on it. But when God has a plan for your life, He’s not influenced by those who overlook or underestimate you. Note also the phrase ‘a colt tied’. You may be tied up with legitimate things like raising a family or holding down a job. Or you may be tied up with illegitimate things you can’t even talk about. Either way God knows, and He’s bigger than your problem.

Note the words, ‘If anyone asks you, “Why are you loosing it?”…say to him, “Because the Lord has need of it.”’ Understand this: neither your friends nor your foes control your future—God does. How long had the colt been tied to that tree? Days? Weeks? Months? We don’t know. But this much is sure, when the Lord says, ‘Loose it and bring it here,’ the clock starts ticking and His plan for your life starts falling into place.

I get you very well and I understand.
1Cor is talking about believers and their type of works. While Timothy is talking about Christ and His vessels.
You are saying the works in 1Cor are not works of the flesh but good works done in the flesh.
While I am trying to say they could be both. Asin anything not done in the Spirit.
But I get you and will do more study. Thanks.
You must have done shorthand in school.
Yes, you basically summarised. Yes we all need to continualy do more study.

Thanks for your post. We keep learning cos i did not even see some things till you explained it.

You're right too, honestly.
But letting scripture interprete scripture; Paul, while talking to Timothy somewhat defined what is considered as works of wood, hay and stubble.
2Timothy 2v19-21 -Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name Christ depart from iniquity.
But in a great house, there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour,
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
I think from this scripture, it is safe to imply that the great house is the body of Christ, while wood and earth vessels in the house represent believers who don't purge themselves of iniquity. And gold and silver are those who purge themselves.
But vessels of wood and earth are not cast out of the great house, but they are not used for the most noble or honourable work either.
I think wood, hay and stubble represent iniquity -the lifestyle and works of believers who don't live a spirit-led life. It represents works done in the flesh.
My view

Uhm! Various angles. Thanks for bringing it to more light but you have given me an even deeper understanding. Thanks. I only read the I Corinthians 3 in context and that is below:

I Corinthians 3:11-15
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Seems in this I Cor 3 case it is a micro-case showing man (us) and our materials(our works) unlike in 2 Timothy 2:19-21 that shows the big picture of Christ and his materials (us his people)...I hope you get me.

This is because if you just take a step further I Cor. 3:17 says:
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Now look at Paul saying if any man DEFILE the temple of God (we are His temple) because the Spirit of God dwells in us, God will destroy that man. Now we can ask what defiles a man? Jesus said it here:

Matthew 15:18-19
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20b These are the things which defile a man

That is how I was able to deduce that evil works are not the types of materials that build the house, they are actually what defiles it. The good works not done well, or done with one's heart in hypocrisy may be the works that get burned. There might actually be some works of Gold and precious stones that will get rewarded.

@Ayoku,
Yes i believe so too even if the person amy not fully grasp it that time but as he begins to follow Jesus and the Spirit He will start gaining understanding. That is why he will need need tbe Spirit to guide him in all truth.

ayoku777:

No a believer who doesn't do the commands of Christ IS A CARNAL CHRISTIAN.
1Cor 3v3 -For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men.
And what is the consequence of being carnal and doing carnal works? It is not the loss of salvation or hell fire as an unbeliever.
1Cor 3v15 -If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: BUT HE HIMSELF SHALL BE SAVED; yet so as by fire.

On the scripture you quoted about works, could you share your thoughts on the works that Paul may have been speaking about here especially since he likened it to a builder building with different materials of gold, wood etc?
I once posted after i meditated on that 1 Corinthians 3 scripture that the works stated there could be hypocritical works of good to show off or receive the praise of men or works done without the right heart and not evil works actually. That is why the different qualities of building materials were mentioned. I don't think evil works can even be classified as a building material in this case.
My view however.

@Immibabe, @Safe06 and @Lizzyslaw, thanks mamas.

@Deezou, and you dey fear to confirm say belle don manifest physical physical.
Congrats dear. God is the giver of children. I am so happy for you. Yet you were given the fact by the doctor that he was seeing hydroxxxx whatever meanwhile the truth is God was seeing a mother.

Parents in the house, i keep saying do not base whether or not you can conceive on doctors report but base it on God only. I once read of a woman who it was after she had 3 kids that she went to the hospital for some routine test i think that she was told based on what they were seeing she should not even have been able to have one child. The only thing she said she noted was that she took some time conceiving each.
God is the one that has the manual of your body and no doctor.

The people told Jarius that His daugther was dead but what did Jesus say? 'ONLY BELIEVE'.

I charge you all today to keep focused on the Lord and it is He that will make all things fall into place for you.

And to think i was coming to share the bible passage I read yesterday here.

2 Kings 3:16-17
16 And he said, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches.

17 For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

Bettet start digging ditches if you have not done that already before you embarass yourself when the blessing that is with you manifest fully. cheesy

@Deezou testimony has preached the message.
Dazall.
