Still mourning Nelson Mandela, I want to ask if any Nigerian leader alive on death can be mourned like the Great Madiba

Culture / Nigerian Islamic Cop To Cabbies: No Indecent Dress by amaboss(m): 8:24pm On Oct 14, 2013
KANO, Nigeria (AP) — Cutoff pants displaying a bulging calf? Sleeveless T-shirts showing off a well-muscled physique? Forget it in Nigeria's northern Kano state, where Islamic police are deploying thousands of officers to arrest anyone sporting the "indecent dress" that's fashionable among young men driving motorized rickshaw taxis.

Police also have orders to arrest any cabbie carrying men and women together in the confined space of the three-wheeled taxis.

"The way and manner some of the commercial tricycle operators engage in indecent dressing and carry men and women together is disturbing," said Yusuf Yola, spokesman for the Hisbah board that is responsible for ensuring compliance with Shariah laws in Kano.

He said such dress, with pants cut off just below the knee like Bermuda shorts, also was "un-Hausa," referring to the biggest tribe in Nigeria's north.

Usually it's women who are the target of the Islamic police checking that they have properly covered their heads and limbs.

Yola told The Associated Press on Monday that 10,000 officers will be deployed to ensure the laws are enforced, including "a law in the state which prohibits gender mix in commercial vehicles."

He said officers have orders to stop and search to make sure everyone obeys — including Christians.

Nine of Nigeria's 37 states have introduced Shariah law since 2000 as some Muslims have become more fundamentalist. But the law is interpreted differently and enforced more rigidly in some states. Three other states introduced Shariah law, but only for Muslims who want to use it as an alternative to Western-style family law.

The rest of Nigeria is under secular law. Africa's most populous nation of more than 160 million people is almost equally divided between Muslims and Christians.

In Kano on Monday, taxi driver Jamilu mai Babur, a Muslim, was rebellious: "I will not comply with this useless order because Shariah is not about violating human rights."

Jamilu Hisba, another Muslim driver, agreed but said he would have to obey. "It's against Islam, this forceful order, but they have power over us so I must comply because this is my means of survival."

Sharia laws and Muslim fundamentalism is nothing but a form of dictatorship, plain and simple...

Yusuf Yola, you are disturbing! Go kneel on rug!!

I wish Nigerian can be divided in two : Islamic Republic of Northern Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Southern Nigeria , just to see which part will have a vibrant economy. Sharia law only use to punish the "have- not "part of the population.

Phones / That Curved Display Smartphone From Samsung Is Real: Meet The Galaxy Round by amaboss(m): 6:25am On Oct 09, 2013
Remember that leaked image of a curved
display smartphone from Samsung? You
should, considering it popped up under our
noses just a few hours ago.
Well, in case you don’t, Samsung wants to
remind you. The Korean firm has just sent
out a press release announcing the Galaxy
Round, “the world’s first curved display
smartphone.”
With the curved display, Samsung can offer
Galaxy Round owners a range of “exclusive
experiences,” like a roll feature that will let
them check date, time, missed calls and
battery life with the display off. Users will
also have the ability to tilt the phone to
control things like music, pictures and
videos.
To be honest, the press release isn’t very
clear on what features the curved display
brings about, or how they’ll work, but we’ve
pasted the full presser below for you to
peruse yourself.
In terms of specs, the Galaxy Round features
a mammoth 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display,
and weighs in at 154 grams with a waist line
of 7.9mm. To deal with such a beastly
screen size, the Galaxy Round will also
include features like One-Hand Operation,
letting a user put customizable controls on a
specific, close corner of the display. Users
can also run multiple applications in the
same window, or run simultaneous multiple
instances of the same application if they so
choose.
The phone will run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on
a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, complete
with 32GB or 64GB of internal memory
under the hood.
The Round will also sport a 13-megapixel
rear-facing shooter and a 2MP front-facing
for video chat, as well as a 2,800 mAh
battery.
As it stands now, the Galaxy Round is only
going on sale in Korea, and will come in
“Luxury Brown,” with more color flavors to
follow. Exact pricing and availability were
not disclosed.
It’s not clear if the Samsung Galaxy Round
is the same phone we’re seeing in these
leaked mockups (above and below), but the
timing leads me to believe this is more than
coincidence.
Here’s that press release we promised:
Samsung GALAXY ROUND Pioneers the
Curved Display Smartphone Experience
New device presents world’s first
commercialized full HD Super AMOLED
flexible display
Seoul, Korea – October 9, 2013 – Samsung
Electronics Co., Ltd. today introduced
GALAXY ROUND, the world’s first curved
display smartphone. Samsung has been a
mobile display innovator by introducing
color TFT-LCD, AMOLED, and Super AMOLED
flexible display for its mobile product. With
this pioneering curved display technology,
GALAXY ROUND blends the latest
smartphone screen innovations with unique
design features. The sleek and thin Samsung
GALAXY ROUND which equipped with a 5.7”
Full HD Super AMOLED with 7.9mm thick and
weighs 154g offers a comfortable hand grip
feeling to user, and exclusive experiences of
curved display.
As a result of its unique curved design,
users can take advantage of round
integration experiences like the Roll Effect
that enables user to check information such
as date, time, missed call and battery easily
when home screen is off, and the Gravity
Effect for creating visual interaction with the
screen by tilting the device. For music, the
Bounce UX enables users to control their
music. When the GALAXY ROUND’s display is
off while the music player is running, a short
press to the left of the device will play the
previous track while a short press to the
right will play the next track. For pictures
and videos, the Side Mirror feature enables
users to gain access to list of the album
content with a left and right tilt.
The large screen size of the GALAXY ROUND
provides additional benefits to users. Useful
One-Hand Operation features bring a user’s
most desired controls closer to a preferred
side of the screen. The device enables
enhanced multitasking capabilities that allow
users to fully utilize the larger screen
through Multi Window, a feature that
enables users to open more than one
application on the screen, run simultaneous
multiple instances of the same application or
to easily share content between
applications.
Samsung GALAXY ROUND is available in
Korea with Luxury Brown, and more color
will be available soon.

Business / Nigerian Naira And Its Value by amaboss(m): 8:35pm On Aug 15, 2013
From time to time, new Naira notes are pumped into the economy, billions of money spent to improve the face of the Naira notes but little attention paid to how to improve the value of the Naira notes. Someone said "Beauty comes from within." The real beauty of the Naira note is not gotten from improving the face. You treasure what you value, so long as the Naira is not valued, new notes will be pumped to persuade people to treasure it.

There was a time Nigeria's currency had the same value as the US Dollar, if not higher. Where did all that go to? Was it not the same Nigerians that handled the economy of Nigeria back then that make it possible? How then is it possible that the Dollar is now over a hundred and fifty times more valued than the Nigerian Naira? Are aliens now controlling our economy? Where we talk of releasing new Naira notes, we should be talking of improving the value of the Naira. Let us all go back to the drawing board and correct where we all got it wrong. There is still hope for the Nigerian Naira.

N92,000,000,000 just for ordinary ALLOWANCE!!! My God!!! Now what about the N12500 increment in salary I was hearing they were also clamouring for? This people finally are not interested in improving any shit, they're just looking out for themselves!

Family / Why Do Some Married Men Cheat? by amaboss(m): 3:28pm On Nov 27, 2012
It all started some years back when I was still in secondary school. My dad will pick my junior brother and I from school and on our way home, he'll pick this lady. This occurence took place more than once. I and my junior brother as at then thought then thought the lady was a co-worker or the wife to a close friend or something like that. Then my mom started getting suspicious after noticing the kind of attitude my dad started putting up. My elder brothers decided to check if my mom was just over reacting or if her suspicions were true; and lo, my dad was being promiscuous. We comfronted him a lot of times and he kept denying having a mistress. We brought a lot of evidence against him from text messages sent to a number and text messages received from that number, yet he denied them all. From then, he was careful, we never found any incriminating text message on his phone. Later on, my mom found a piece of paper with love messages written on in in my dad's own handwriting. With this, we comfronted him again and as usual, he denied it, and almooost denied his own handwriting. The following day, we invited our pastor over to the house and when we were asked to present the paper, it was missing. We asked him and he denied having knowledge of where the paper was.

After the paper incident, he started to deteriorate in his responsibilities as the head of the house and as the breadwinner, not that he was fully the breadwinner before then. God really blessed my mom with a good job and she was able to do the things my dad wasn't able to do and take care of us in a way my dad wasn't and won't be able to. So it was safe to say my mom was the breadwinner. His promiscuousness wasn't hidden anymore and it was now glaring to everyone. We all put him into prayers; prayers wasn't yielding much, advice, counselling, rebukes, and all manner were like a boring joke to him. He continued to fail in his duty as a father, as well as a husband.

Just recently, my mom was transfered. We were happy for her, at least it would save her the drama. With her gone, we received the full-dose of dad's behaviour. It was like living on your own completely. I took solace in school, at least it saved me from nursing a broken heart everyday. I never for once asked dad for more money for school fees but I saw why some students took much more money from their parents for school fees.

Then the question we'll ask ourselves is if a woman as beautiful as my mom and blessed with a good job with a comfortable position and paycheck, with every reason to go out and look for a better man to take care of her, can stay faithful to God and to her husband, is it so difficult for a man, whose achievements are not much compared to hers to stick to his wife and be a good husband and father?
