CelebritiesBurna Boy: ‘Easterners In Nigeria Only Love Their People In Music’ by Amarachi1990(op): 2:21am On Jul 14, 2019
Burna Boy in his interview with Julie Adenuga as Apple's Up Next Artiste, opened up on some parts of his life including his music and what he does when he breaks down.

The BET Awards winner passed off the unknown side of his visits to Ghana in the interview, by disclosing that he goes there to get genuine peace.

“That’s the only place I have actual genuine peace. When you go to Labadi Beach and you look at the line that separates the sky from the water, I feel like that’s where God lives,” he said to the show's host Julie Adenuga.

“I go on my robot mode.. I play like 3-4 shows and I eventually break down. That’s what happens when I go to Ghana,”  the 'Dangote' crooner added.

Burna Boy also revealed that he was making music for himself, before 2014 when he performed in a stadium in the Eastern part of Nigeria. He claimed that Easterners only love only their people in music, and a singer has really "popped" when he has crossed over.

"THAT'S THE FIRST TIME I DID A SHOW IN A STADIUM IN THE EASTERN PART OF NIGERIA, WHERE IT IS LIKE THEY ONLY LIKE THEIR OWN PEOPLE. SO IF YOU CROSS OVER THERE, THEN LIKE YOU'VE POPPED. LIKE I'VE NEVER SEEN NOTHING IN MY LIFE, I DIDN'T EVEN THINK IT WAS REAL THING THAT COULD HAPPEN".

CrimePolice Arraign 38 Shi’ites For Criminal Conspiracy, Rioting by Amarachi1990(op): 9:52am On Jul 12, 2019
The police, on Thursday, arraigned 38 out of the 40 members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria arrested on Tuesday for invading the National Assembly where they shot two police officers and torched three vehicles.

They were arraigned before three Magistrates in Abuja, for criminal conspiracy, mischief, unlawful assembly, obstructing a public official, disturbing public peace, rioting armed with deadly weapons and causing grievous hurt.

The police alleged that the accused persons snatched a gun from one Insp. Ahmed Sani and caused grievous hurt on SP Umar Abdullahi, Insp. Ahmed Sani, Cpls. Mohammed Sarki, and Joseph Abutu.

The Shi’ite members were charged under sections 97, 326,180, 149,107, 243, 113 and 267 of the Penal Code.

Two other sect members were screened and released.

Ten accused persons who were arraigned before Magistrates’ Court 2, Wuse Zone 6, presided over by Mohammed Ibrahim pleaded not guilty and were, however, granted bail.

Thirty-eight others who were arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court 3, Wuse Zone 6 and Court 13, Wuse Zone 3, presided over by Magistrates Ahmed Adejumo and Ralphael Egbo, respectively, were remanded in prison custody, after pleading not guilty to the charges.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to July 18, 2019.

But while the arraignment was going on, Shi’ite members again clashed with the police at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

The protesters, who were demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who had been in custody since 2015, engaged the police in a violent confrontation.

They threw stones and other objects at the security operatives who in turn, responded with tear gas canisters and gunshots.

CrimeRe: The North East Zonal Office Of The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission In G by Amarachi1990(op): 12:50pm On Jul 11, 2019
Amarachi1990:
The North East Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Gombe State has said that it has secured 55 convictions and recovered over N90 million in six months. Thickmatch Reports''

Head of Operations in the zone, Mr Michael Wetkas, disclosed this on Thursday in Gombe during a community road walk against corruption to commemorate the 2019 African Anti-Corruption Day, with the theme: “Assets Recovery”.

Wetkas said the commission also secured the forfeiture of two houses to the Federal Government.

According to him, corruption has been the bane of underdevelopment, unemployment, decayed infrastructure and insecurity in Nigeria.

“Statistics has shown that in Africa, we lose 50 billion dollars yearly. In Nigeria, we have lost over 400 billion dollars between 1960 and 2012.

“Today, we are commemorating the African Day to have a common position with other countries within the continent against corruption.

“We must take ownership of the anti-corruption fight. When you see something, let’s say something. We are always ready to do our job whenever we are called in that regard,” he said.

He added that the commission, acting on information from the public, was able to recover items meant for the internally-displaced persons (IDPs) in Gombe but which were diverted.

Wetkas also stressed that the commission had intervened, following useful information, in the allegations of corruption in the Anchor Borrowers’ Scheme of the Federal Government and that some of the cases were already in court.
He warned that anybody engaging in illegal businesses should desist from such acts, adding that the commission had stepped up its surveillance in the fight against corruption.

Wetkas also commended Mr Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of the commission for his strides in the fight against corruption since he assumed duty in 2015.

He said that the commission also secured 1,207 convictions and recovered over N790 billion under the leadership of Magu.

The head of operations called on everyone in the zone to assist the commission with useful information and to always verify any financial dealing to avoid falling prey to the activities of criminal-minded individuals.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has warned ‘some misguided’ Igbo politicians to stop abusing their people because of temporary political positions they occupy.South East Loses Out As SGF - We’re Not Surprised, Says Ohanaeze

The National Organising Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Mr Emma Bediro, had in a statement recently said that the Presidency in 2023 might elude the Igbos because they did not vote for President Muhammadu Buhari.

But Ohanaeze, in a statement by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Chuks Ibegbu, wondered why ‘a full-blooded Igbo man’ could make such a statement.

“I dont expect an Igbos to be at the vanguard of such discouraging statements. The other time, it was Rotimi Amaechi, Orji Uzor Kalu and then even Rochas Okorocha. Some Igbo fully identified with Buhari and some others with Atiku just as some northerners, westerners and Niger Deltans did too.”

While he wondered what made Igbo position today exceptional, Ibegbu added, “when the Yoruba rejected Obasanjo, was he not made Nigeria’s President? Did the Niger Delta or the North all lick the buttocks of power holders in Nigeria before their own became Nigeria’s President?

“Why must Igbo be different and worst of all, our own people are talking like those that took tramadol. Nobody in the North or West or even Niger Delta will openly make such statements against their people even if their people are political mumu,” Ibegbu lamented.

The Ohanaeze spokesperson said, “Maybe some of them have other blood running in their veins. For me, nobody has monopoly of political wisdom, not in the North, not in the West and not anywhere. Sometimes, it’s just mere luck or political intimidation.”

He, however, advised Igbo politicians who do not know what to say or how to engage their co-competitors in other parts of the country to keep quiet rather than embarrassing their race.

SportsNigeria Vs South Africa: 5 Things We Learnt As Super Eagles Qualify For Semi-fin by Amarachi1990(op): 7:06am On Jul 11, 2019
The Super Eagles will play in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, after they beat South Africa 2-1 on Wednesday.

Samuel Chukwueze gave the Nigerians the lead in the first half, before Bongani Zungu levelled for South Africa following a VAR decision.

William Troost-Ekong netted the winner in the dying seconds of the game.

So, what are the five things we learnt from the match?

1. Chukwueze is a star: That is the first thing that comes to mind after watching 90minutes of that game. The Villarreal was a consistent menace for the South Africans all through, with his zippy movements and velvet dribbling skills. Glad that Gernor Rohr picked him and he also scored his first goal for Nigeria.

2. Musa still not justifying his selection: Before this game, Rohr went on and on about Musa’s experience, as the reason he is selecting the Al Nassr winger ahead of Henry Onyekuru. But once again, Musa did not come to the party. He was all pace and no end product. Musa is the reason why the Super Eagles were not out of sight by half time.

3. VAR almost takes the headlines: As soon as Zungu headed in for 1-1, practically everyone screamed offside. Infact, the linesmen waved his flag, as the midfielder wheeled away. But VAR, which comes into play from the quarter-finals, had another look and spotted that the ball came off Ighalo’s back.

4. South Africa not all that: Credit to Rohr, he set up his team to nullify Bafana Bafana and make them ineffective at their superb counter-attacking style. Although there are times they threatened to break Nigeria down, the Eagles’ defence held firm.

PoliticsBuhari’s Ability To Speak English Dominate Tribunal’s Proceedings by Amarachi1990(op): 2:29pm On Jul 09, 2019
Questions of whether or not President Muhammadu Buhari can speak the English language have dominated the Tuesday’s proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, where the Peoples Democratic Party, and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, are challenging his victory at the February 23 poll.

The first two petitioners’ witnesses who testified on Tuesday were inundated with questions by the lawyers representing Buhari and his All Progressives Congress – Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), and Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).

The questions were informed by the petitioners’ claim in their petition that Buhari was not academically qualified to run for President.

Testifying first on Tuesday as the petitioners’ seventh witness, the Niger State collation agent for the PDP, Tanko Beche, said he trained as a lawyer.

Asked if he watched Buhari’s and Atiku’s campaigns, Beche said he watched that of Buhari and participated in that of Atiku’s.

Asked if he was aware that Buhari spoke in English particularly in the southern part of Nigeria during the campaigns, the witness said he was not in the position to confirm.

Asked which class he was between 1983 and 1985, he said he was in primary school.

He was also asked who was the Head of State during the period, Beche said, “History has shown me it was Muhammadu Buhari.”

Asked if he was aware that Buhari was addressing the nation in English as the Head of State, the witness said, “The President should address the nation in English.”

Taking the witness stand after Beche was the Chairman of the PDP in Katsina State, Salisu Maijigiri, who was also confronted with questions about Buhari’s competence to speak English.

The witness, who noted that he served as the state collation agent for his party in Katsina State during the presidential election, said he was born in 1963.

He said he was aware that Buhari was the Head of State between 1983 and 1985.

Asked which class he was in at the time, he said, “I was in Class 3 in the secondary school.”

Asked if Buhari was addressing the nation in English as the Head of State, he said, “Maybe I was in the village then.”
PoliticsElection Tribunal: Atiku To Challenge Kano, Kebbi And Nine Other States’ Results by Amarachi1990(op): 5:47am On Jul 09, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate in the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, presented their first set of six witnesses at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in their bid to prove their petition challenging outcome of the polls.

They are by their petition filed before the Justice Mohammed Garba-led tribunal of five justices, challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress at the polls.

The petitioners presented their witnesses just as there were indications that they would challenge the results of the presidential election in 11 states.

Monday was the third of the 10 days the petitioners were allotted to present their case.

A former ally of Buhari, Buba Galadima, was the first witness presented by the petitioners at the Monday’s proceedings, contending that Buhari was not academically qualified to contest the presidential election.

Others included three Independent National Electoral Comimssion’s ad hoc workers serving in different capacities during the election, who testified that they transmitted the results of the election electronically as INEC trained them to do.

Others were party agents, who alleged harassment and intimidation of voters at their polling units.

Indication emerged on Monday that the petitioners might limit their challenge of the outcome of the polls to 11 states.

The petitioners tendered the last set of result sheets for the states on Monday.

The states are: Niger, Yobe, Katsina, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kano, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Kaduna and Zamfara.

The petitioners tendered through their lead counsel, the result sheets for Zamfara State, those for the four remaining local governments of Kano, having tendered those for the rest of the local governments of the state on Friday.

They had tendered the result sheets for the nine other states last week.

They also tendered among other exhibits, newspapers certified by the National Library on April 8, 2019.

They also tendered a document certified by INEC containing the total number of registered voters and collected Permanent Voter Cards for the 2019 general elections.

They tendered Form EC8E dated February 27, 2019, which is the final results of the February 23 presidential election as declared by INEC.

They also tendered 10 press releases by INEC and which were certified by the commission.

The proceedings continue on Tuesday.

The respondents objected to the admissibility of almost all the documents as exhibits but would only give their reasons for their objection at the final address stage.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday made his first appearance at the tribunal.

Oshiomhole arrived at the courtroom at 9.36am on Monday barely some few minutes before the five-man panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba started sitting.

He sat inbetween the pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and leader of the APC from Adamawa State, Nuhu Ribadu, and a PDP leader, Tom Ikimi.

On Ikimi’s left was the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Kola Ologbondiyan.

When the proceedings began, Oshiomhole announced himself as representing both Buhari and the APC, the second and the third respondents to the petition.

Ologbodinyan represented the PDP.

Christianity EtcNigerians Dig Up Video Of Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo Demanding $1000 From Church by Amarachi1990(op):
Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, the embattled founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly has been seen on tape demanding $1000 from church members.
A video has surfaced showing the moment embattled founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo was seen demanding $1,000 from church members in what appears to be outside the shores of Nigeria. The video surfaced following his recent r’ape allegation by Busola Dakolo, the wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo.
Many people have attacked the man of God since the controversy started, with some questioning his lifestyle. He is known to be a showoff pastor who drives expensive cars and wears designer clothes. Nigerians have also accused him of using the money he gets from his church members to furnish his lavish lifestyle.

Watch video below:

Looks like Nigerians are bent on digging up old video of the embattled pastor. Just yesterday, a video made rounds in which Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo was seen preaching during a church service, where he revealed that he was the chief priest of cult during his time in the University of Ilorin.

PoliticsElection Tribunal: Why I Fell Out With Buhari —buba Galadima by Amarachi1990(op): 1:34pm On Jul 08, 2019
Buba Galadima, who is a former ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, on Monday, denied the claim that he fell out with the President in 2015 because he was not appointed a minister.

Galadima, who is the first witness for the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said he fell out with Buhari because of alleged injustice in his administration, lack of inclusiveness and failure of the administration to secure Nigeria.

“You fell out with the 2nd respondent (Buhari) because he did not make you a minister in 2015,” Olanipekun asked.

Responding, Galadima said, “No. You should know that I fought all the previous governments since 1999 because of injustice.

“We made good promises to Nigerians, including justice, inclusiveness, and to secure the country, which he has failed to do.

“It has always being part of my characteristics to fight injustice.”

He confirmed that he had supported Buhari in the 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 election cycles until the 2019 election.

While being cross-examined by the All Progressives Congress’ lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the witness said he was aware that there no registered party called the Reformed APC, but maintained that he was still the chairman of the group.

He, however, said he remained a member of the APC since had “not been sacked”.

Galadima, a spokesperson for the Atiku Campaign Organisation, “I’m still a member of APC. I have not been sacked. We are in court. I don’t want to be subjudice.

“I’m not a member of PDP, but we have a memorandum of understanding with the PDP to produce God-fearing, good and educated leader.”

Christianity EtcWhy We Can’t Jump To Conclusions About Rape Allegations Against Fatoyinbo —CAN by Amarachi1990(op): 6:26pm On Jul 07, 2019
The Christian Association of Nigeria has explained why it has refused to ‘jump to conclusions’ about the rape allegations against the Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Mr. Biodun Fatoyinbo

It however stated that, no matter who is involved, rape is ungodly and reprehensible.

CAN, in a statement by its General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, on Sunday expressed displeasure that Christendom has been subjected to ridicule on account of the allegations leveled against Fatoyinbo, who the apex Christian body in the country described as “one of the nation’s leading pastors.”

It said, “The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria is seriously concerned about the disturbing situation concerning Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, the General Overseer of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, one of our leading pastors in the country, on whom an allegation of rape has been leveled by one of our daughters, Mrs. Busola Dakolo.

“It is disheartening how some commentators and columnists have been insulting the Body of Christ in Nigeria as a result of this incident. Like we have earlier stated, it doesn’t matter who is involved, rape is ungodly and reprehensible.

“But we have resisted the temptation to jump into any conclusion since a body like ours will be expected to have uncovered the truth about any matter before making public statements and not base its position merely upon media reports.”

According to CAN, its stance that Fatoyinbo’s church has not been an active member of CAN does not put COZA outside the spiritual watch-care of the apex Christian organisation.

It said, “CAN is the umbrella body for every Christian and church in Nigeria. Jesus Christ, the head of the Church, does not turn back anyone that comes to him and CAN also does not.

“The ministry of the Church, according to Jesus Christ, is the ministry of reconciliation, which is centred on true love and forgiveness of those who repent.

“The Bible states it clearly that ‘God demonstrates his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us’ (Romans 5:8, 11). Having reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, God has committed to us the ministry of reconciling the world unto Himself and to one another (2 Corinthians 5:19-21).

“Since both Pastor Fatoyinbo and Mrs. Dakolo are Christians, the leadership of CAN is already seeking ways to address the issues in order to heal every wound already inflicted on the parties concerned and the body of Christ in general.”

CAN stated that its hope was that steps, which would exacerbate the current damages already done, would be avoided.

“As we seek the help of CAN elders and the Holy Spirit in resolving the current problem, it is our prayer that both parties will sheathe their swords and stop the media war in the interest of the Church and for the greater glory of God,” it added.
