TV/MoviesBbnaija 2019: Is This The End Of The Road For Mike And Ike? by Amarachi1990(op): 9:44am On Jul 06, 2019
After the Bet 9ja Get Arena Games, the coast is not very clear any more for Mike and Ike anymore. Despite believing so much in themselves, their team eventually came last in the competition.

Big Brother earlier told the housemates that whoever had the lowest number of coins will be evicted during the live show on Sunday.

Unfortunately for Mike and Ike, their last oppourtunity to earn more to their very low coins has proved futile. Though these housemates put much efforts in the Bet9ja Arena Game, it turned out that the other house mates played a better game.

Could this be the end of the road for the hunky CEO & President of “THE BEARD GANGS” of  Big Brother 2019 Mike and The born and raised Americana Ike?

TV/MoviesNigerians Blast Bbnaija Housemates After They Did This In The Jacuzzi (video) by Amarachi1990(op):
One of the things that made Nigerians concerned when it was announced that Big Brother Nigeria 2019 show would be held in Nigeria instead of South Africa was about how they would cope with electricity as well as the house to be used. Interestingly, the BBNaija 2019 house was built from scratch for the show and the house popped with colours, bright lights, African-themed decors, pastel coloured couches and more so, there was a jacuzzi. Now, it has become the centre of jokes for lovers of the show after a weird thing happened in it.

On Day 5 of the show, after the Friday Night Games at the arena, the housemates were finally ready to let off some steam. They got comfortable, some putting on their bathing suits to enjoy some well deserved time in the jacuzzi. Unfortunately, it seemed it wasn’t functioning well as some of the housemates were spotted filling it up with hot water while the others sat in it.

Trust Nigerians! They came hard on the housemates and the shop organisers for not providing a working utility in the house for them. They mostly mocked them and called them all sorts of names, Here are some comments gathered from Twitter:

PoliticsStop Diverting NDDC Funds For Elections – Dickson by Amarachi1990(op): 9:02am On Jul 06, 2019
Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, has accused the leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), of channelling funds for the development of the region to sponsor elections of ruling political parties in the country.

Dickson noted that it called for concern among leaders of the zone.

Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, his Special Adviser on Media Relations, through a statement

said that the diversion of monies meant for projects had hampered the Commission’s capacity to actualize its mandate of bringing development to oil producing communities.

The statement further said Dickson made the comment while receiving the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof. Nelson Brambaifa, and his team from the commission at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Friday.
His words, “The NDDC is not a body that should be left on its own in doing all kinds of things at its whims and caprices as it pleases. It is a very serious body. It is a mechanism already designed in the legislation for the involvement of other stakeholders and the most important stakeholders are the governors of the oil producing states.

“We want to see the NDDC fulfilling its maximum potentials and it has not been able to do this as a result of the deliberate politicization of the NDDC.

“The Commission contrary to its founding principles, has become some political fund at the whims and caprices of those who control the federal government.

“The NDDC funds are channeled for elections, into all kinds of activities other the main reason for which it was set up. That is very unfortunate and that has limited the capacity of the body to impact maximally the challenges of the region which i find very appalling.

“But it is something that all stakeholders need to sit down to seriously address, so even as we join hands to ask that all funds owed the NDDC be paid, we should equally join hands to demand for accountability, demand that projects that are conceived are not ones designed for power brokers but projects that really have the capacity to impact on the communities in need of development and so i call for a new approach.”

PoliticsFalana Reacts To Suspension Of Ruga Settlements, Tells Buhari What To Do by Amarachi1990(op): 6:13am On Jul 04, 2019
Lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, has advised the federal government to replace the suspended Ruga settlement scheme with ranching.

Falana stated this, while reacting to the suspension of Ruga settlement by the federal government.

“As far back as 2016 the Buhari administration had opted for ranching.

“To actualise the ranching policy 11 states had made available 55,000 hectares of land.

“Ranching has also been adopted by the National Livestock Policy of the Buhari administration.

“What is now left is for the immediate implementation of the ranching programme,” Falana said in a statement.

Falana believed Ruga was suddenly introduced from the blues, by some fifth columnists in the administration.

He added: “Ruga should not just be suspended but cancelled completely by the federal government. It should be replaced with ranching funded by state governments and individual stakeholders with the assistance of the federal government.

“However if the federal government is interested in establishing ranches in the states, it should apply for building approval from the state governments because the supreme court has held that physical planning is not in the exclusive legislative list.”

PoliticsThe Bad Side Of Nigeria Lawmakers Collection Of Wrongs (videos + Photos) by Amarachi1990(op): 8:31pm On Jul 03, 2019
The latest viral video where a member of the 9th National Assembly, Senator Elisha Abbo, was caught assaulting a lady in Abuja can best be described as appalling, monstrous, unpardonable, inexcusable and shameful for a lawmaker to beat up a lady.

Abbo, who represents Adamawa North Senatorial District, is seen in the video clip slapping the lady in the face three times while threatening to deal with the other who tried to stop him from further assaulting the victim.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Mx4Ugy_32s

But it is not the first time, two or more Nigerian lawmakers were caught on camera displaying public abuse of power. Some of them had publicly assaulted one another in the past.

They were caught assaulting each other on the floor of Red Chamber, similar cases of assault among lawmakers had been reported in Rivers, Jigawa, and Edo states.

In June 2015 after the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly, two Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) engaged in a physical fight over who should emerge as Senate Majority Leader, his deputy, Senate Whip and his deputy.

PoliticsGanduje (gandollar) Vs Slapping Senator: A Case Of Selective Justice? by Amarachi1990(op): 8:04pm On Jul 03, 2019
Since a video of Senator Elisha Abbo assaulting a female in an sxx toy shop surfaced on the internet, the young Senator has seen himself engulfed with all the negative publicity that has come with it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJC3L9xzbdc

The Senator had in a short interview with DAILY SUN affirmed that he was the one who was captured in the video, but he had also claimed that the video was not telling the full story as it had been doctored to leave out some vital happenings during the incident.
He also said that the incident had happened before he became a Senator.

The Senator’s explanations have however not been received well by many as he has come under fire from Nigerians for his actions.

While some have condemned the actions of the Senator, others had, on the other hand, decided to compare his case to that of Abdullahi Ganduje, the Governor of Kano State. The Kano State Governor was caught on tape purportedly collecting wads of Dollars as a kickback from awarded contracts. The video was released by DAILY NIGERIAN journalist Jafaar Jafaar.

They have argued that there seems to be some sort partiality with the manner in which both cases have been handled. Is that really the case? Let us examine both scenarios below.

Senator Elisha Abbo’s Assault Case
After the assault video of the Adamawa, Senator was released by PREMIUM TIMES, it quickly went viral with clips showing the Senator hitting the unidentified lady saturating the Nigerian web space. What followed next was a wave of backlash by many Nigerians who had condemned the act of the Senator and his police orderly.

Ganduje Bribe Scandal
In 2018, a video had surfaced from DAILY NIGERIAN showing the Kano State Governor stuffing foreign currencies in the pocket of his babarigan. The video elicited a lot of reactions, mostly negative as the Governor was put on blast for the corrupt practice.
Now after the video surfaced online, the treatment meted out to the Governor was completely different from what can be observed as going on with Senator Abbo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGCvXTISNns

First off, with all the complaints that the video generated, Ganduje was never invited by the Police nor was any sorts of an investigation carried out against him by the Force.

Another issue that raises eyebrows is the fact that the Senate has constituted a committee to probe Abbo. In the case of Ganduje, when the Kano State House of Assembly tried to carry out investigations with a view to possibly impeach the Governor if found guilty, he went to court to stop the proceedings. The court would go on to grant him his request thus scuttling any move by the House of Assembly to look into his case.

PoliticsGbajabiamila Seeks Return To January-december Budget Cycle by Amarachi1990(op): 6:50am On Jul 02, 2019
The  Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila on Monday urged the Presidency to ensure the early submission of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to allow for early passage of budget 2020.

Gbajabiamila who spoke during a courtesy visit by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr. Boss Mustapha and his team at the National Assembly, said its will help the country return to the January to December budget cycle.

He said: “Again, part of the reforms which we want to achieve is: I will want a situation where before we go on long break in the next week, maybe three weeks, I would want a situation where the MTEF will be submitted to this House so that we can pass it before going.

“And then, when we come back in September, may be by the end of September, the budget is before us. Because by finance laws, the budget is based in the MTEF. The MTEF needs to be submitted. At the end if the day, we don’t want the budget to be brought in December.
“So, this is the timetable that we have set.  One, the MTEF to be submitted. Two, we work on it and go on our long break and then come back. At the end of September,   present the budget to us. And what does that do? It leaves us with three months to pass the budget. It brings us back to that circle of January to December. And by January 1, we pass the budget as envisaged in the constitution.

“We want you to help us with this process. We want to streamline the budget process because the input of the members cannot be negotiated. So, if that input can come before the presentation of the budget, fine. So that when the budget comes, we just need little things here and there but not to rewrite a whole budget because we have not been carried along from onset. I think those are the issues. We want good collaboration.”

He demanded better working conditions in the National Assembly.

He said the parliament will be coming to the executive “with a shopping list which will make our work easier.

“The list will include things like library, world class, international standard library. we will be needing your intervention in that regard. We will need to make the House IT compliant.

PoliticsNITDA Boss Bags Public Personality Award by Amarachi1990(op): 4:19pm On Jul 01, 2019
Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), the Director General and Chief Executive Officer (DG/CEO) of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Chief Information Officer of Nigeria, has been conferred with the ‘Most Valuable Public Personality of the Year Award’ by the International Centre for Comparative Leadership for Africans and Blacks in Diaspora in conjunction with Accolade Communications Limited.

The African Par Excellence Award had, over the years, recognised and appreciated Africans and Nigerians. Ibrahim’s award was in recognition of the DG’s boisterous efforts invested in making Nigeria in particular, and Africa as a whole, a better place.

The DG’s leadership in NITDA brought about a paradigm shift and an unprecedented achievement in the in the history of Nigeria’s IT sector.

Some of these laudable achievements that gave precedence to this award include:

1. Activation of NITDA’s IT Clearing House status that focused on, among others, to ensure efficient utilization of public resources, to prevent duplication or superfluous projects, development of local content and to ensure shared services are used where possible as well as prevention of failed IT projects while encouraging better project outcomes. The process captured over 750 IT-specific projects of Federal Government and resulted in a saving of over 16 Billion Naira in compliance with the process

PoliticsSenator Ndume Weeps As He Urges IDPs To Return To Their Home by Amarachi1990(op): 1:32pm On Jul 01, 2019
Sen. Ali Ndume (APC-Borno) has urged all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Gwazo taking refuge in Maiduguri, to return home, assuring them of their safety.

Ndume made the call on Monday while addressing the IDPs in Bakassi and Gubio camps in Maiduguri. The lawmaker, who was intermittently wiping tears with handkerchief, expressed disappointment that the IDPs from Gwoza had yet to be resettled even when normalcy had returned to the town.

He said that insurgency had reduced many people in Gwoza to almost beggars and they had to wait to be given handouts in the camp before they could feed.

“The Palestinian IDPs camp has been existing for 60 years; in Kenya, it existed for about 30 years.

“So, insecurity cannot be completely eliminated. We must therefore defy fears, summon courage and be resilient in order to achieve permanent solution to our problems.

“It is understood that some of them are traumatised because of what happened to them and they are scared they may be attacked again while some are thinking of what to do when they go back home.

“We have people of Izge and Limakara who lived inside the deep mountains, but have consistently defeated Boko Haram because they are resilient, focused, vigilant and always at alert.

“Because of their resilience, they are now expanding their territories; we can also do the same in Gwoza,” he said.

Ndume said that government had already made efforts to rehabilitate and reconstruct many residential homes, schools, clinics, palace and other social ammenities to enhance civic authority.

“The Federal Government is also focusing on rehabilitation and resetlement of IDPs through the North East Development Commission (NEDC) with an approved take-off sum of N95 billion,” he said.

Ndume recalled that the European Union recently committed about N8 billion to support Post Insurgency Response, Recovery and Resilience for the IDPs in the education sector.

The senator said Gwoza was among the nine local government areas to benefit from the intervention.

In the area of security, he lauded the Nigerian armed forces for adopting proactive modalities to secure returnees in their farmlands, homes and markets places.

Ndume expressed optimism that many farmers would record bumper harvests this cropping season, in view of improvement on security of lives and property.

“Improved security situation and support from humanitarian organisations have encouraged many farmers from Firgi, Pulka, Warabe and Kirawa communities in Gwoza to go back to their farms this year,” he said.

NAN recalled that in August 2014, Boko Haram captured Gwoza town with a population of 275,000 people and declared it the headquarters of its “caliphate.

It was later liberated by the Nigerian military. The Boko Haram insurgency had allegedly killed more than 27,000 people and displaced 1.8 million others in the North-East.

PoliticsRuga Settlement: Gombe Signs Up For Fed Govt Ruga Settlement Initiative by Amarachi1990(op): 1:10pm On Jul 01, 2019
Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has revealed that the state government has signed up for the establishment of the Federal Government’s controversial “Ruga Settlement” in the northeastern state.

Inuwa, who stated this Saturday in his keynote address at the flag off of the sales and distribution in Gombe, mentioned that the state was looking at a ways of providing the needed mechanism for the smooth take off of the project.

The governor added that his administration will ensure increment in budgetary allocations to the agricultural and livestock sectors to increase their productivity.

Governor Yahaya said he had engaged the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with the view to fully subscribe to the initiative.

“We had a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry with the view of engaging them to make sure that, while the Federal Government is being driven away and chastised in other states for embracing or deciding to help our native Fulani people who are mostly cattle rearers, we will engage and make sure that we provide all that they need to facilitate the take off of the Ruga Program in Gombe state,” the governor said.

Stating that his administration will promote animal husbandry and livestock entrepreneurship, especially among women and youths, Governor Yahaya further enjoined groups and individuals interested in agricultural and livestock in the state to take advantage of the government’s huge spending in order to improve agricultural production in the state.

PoliticsRuga Settlement: No Going Back On Cattle Settlements - Presidency by Amarachi1990(op): 6:03am On Jul 01, 2019
The government said the scheme had already taken off in 12 of the 36 states.

It was learnt that each of the 12 states actually applied and indicated the quantum of land available.

But Ruga settlements will not be imposed on any state by the Federal Government.

According to the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, who spoke with our correspondent, the “Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the establishment of Ruga settlements in any state that is willing to have it”.

“The pilot scheme has already taken off in about 12 states; there is no imposition on any state.”

Neither the Presidency nor the Federal Ministry of Agriculture is willing to release the list of the states.

It was not clear whether Benue, for instance, is one of such states. There have been protests that despite its objection to such settlements, the Federal Government was already working on it in the states.

Another source said “ the list of the 12 states; was kept under wraps for security reasons and to stave off political pressure on the governors”.

“This scheme is not designed to favour any tribe or people. It is meant to resolve farmers-herders conflicts,” the source said, adding: “The Federal Government appreciates the fact that governors have control over land in their states. Land is vested on the states and governors have the trusteeship. Anybody thinking that the Federal Government will hijack a state’s land is being mischievous.

“It is just unfortunate that the states crying out over these settlements are those who did not subscribe to the scheme at all.

“They just find it politically expedient to create a problem for the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“What is wrong in creating settlements for herders to rear their cattle instead of the perennial clashes with farmers”.

“If these herders are in a settlement, security agencies will be able to monitor their activities and foster good relationship between them and farmers and other natives.”

There are indications that Ruga Settlement are a variant of the establishment of ranches agreed upon by governors.

A source in the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) revealed that the governors at the National Economic Council (NEC) in January agreed on a National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) which will lead to the establishment of ranches.

The source said the NLTP was designed to attract about N2 trillion revenue annually.

The source added: “The NLTP was developed by the governors under the auspices of NEC. They decided to have 13 pilot states.

“In fact, NEC raised a technical committee headed by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State. The NLTP was approved by the NEC in January.

“I think the Federal Ministry of Agriculture came up with Ruga Settlement as a test for the workability of the larger concept of ranches.”

Upon the approval of NLTP by NEC in January, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, who spoke with State House correspondents, said the approval was as a result of a memo presented by former Minister of Agriculture Audu Ogbeh.

He said the NLTP will attract N2 trillion into the economy through the livestock sector.
