The testing happening in the State is due to Shell providing testing equipments and also another from Total. From the Governor's remark, a lot of the testing is done on Oil field workers. This is in no way enough. We need mobile test centres in large amount and we need the Rivers State Government that gets allocations and IGR to disperse some of the funds to help increase testing to a high magnitude.

We need more testing labs in the State. Mobile labs to get into the rural areas. We néed funds to bring in medicine for early treatment.

On the funding of additional test centres you talked about, states are in precarious situations at the moment with plummeting revenues as a result of the crash in oil prices and the lockdown caused by the pandemic means igr is at all time low...even the Federal government and the Lagos state government with huge revenue base are calling out for assistance how much more Rivers or other states .

States also have other responsibilities besides health issues, there are salaries to be paid and contract obligations to be fulfilled amongst others.

The federal government for whatever reason is also selective in those it gives out financial assistance to ...atleast the Rivers state government for all the media hype and sensational statements should be given a measure of commendation for bringing the oil majors to act by the way Peter Odili donated about 1 or 2 PCR machines too.

Well, I cannot fault any governor for doing what he feels is right towards health security. No one who stands against him will remain standing if the pandemuc revages the land. They will all disappear into their closets.

However Wike should realise Rivers State is not an island. It needs the rest of Nigeria more than Nigeria needs it. It needs the Federal Government more than the Federal Government needs it. So he should be circumspect in his actions and avoid issues that will leave lasting damage to the name of that State afterall he is in a temporary position.

Overall, this pandemic has brought tothe fore the very weak State of the Union in Nigeria. Both government and citizens do not seem to know the bounds of their rights and responsibilities thoughtless of understanding how these interplay in the greater schene of things to tackle such great challenges of Covid 19 or the great opportunities of development.

Point of correction Rivers state does not need Nigeria, Nigeria is actually holding Rivers state back.
