NEMESIS has caught up with four grave diggers as they were arrested for being in possession of five human heads in Akure, the Ondo Statecapital.

They reportedly sell the severed heads to ritualists for money-making.

The suspects who work at a public cemetery owned by Akure South Local Government along Imafon road, Akure were caught in the act while trying to severe the head of a newly buried corpse.

It learnt that they were apprehended last weekend for being in possession of a female human head and four other fresh severed heads.

The suspects who are in police custody include Adewale Abiodun, 40; Akinola Sunday, 69, Olomofe, 45 and Oluwadare Idowu 67.

Reports had it that the bubble burst last week Saturday as the syndicate tried to exhume the corpse of a young tipper driver who was buried at the cemetery few hours by the family members.

Eyewitness account said:  “As they were trying to exhume the corpse, some family members of the deceased came back to the cemetery with some bricklayers to cement the grave and caught them in the act.

“lt was when we caught them in the act which led to their beating that we discovered that they were in possession of a female human head and four other fresh severed heads.

“We immediately contacted men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) who came to pick them up.”

Contacted, the state police command spokesperson, Tee-Leo Ikoro, said that police detectives have commenced an investigation into the matter and assured that other members of the syndicate would soon be unravelled.

Ikoro said that “the ongoing investigation will reveal everything, particularly other members of the gang.

“From what we have found out, it shows that it’s not their first time. It’s something they have been doing, it’s a routine thing.

Which expectations are met? When there is no news of mobilising the Rivers State Ministry of Health to source for a way to carry out aggressive testing. If we are not testing, then we are not meeting any expectations. While we wait for FG to change their attitude, we need to take actions ourselves.

If jot private bodies, we would have been claiming low cases in Rivers State. Sorry, but there is not way to defend this.

Anti-viral drug remdesivir cuts recovery times in coronavirus patients, according to the full results of a trial published Friday night, three weeks after America’s top infectious diseases expert said the study showed the medication has “clear-cut” benefits.

Complete results from the research, which was carried out by US government agency the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), were published by leading medical periodical the New England Journal of Medicine.

The United States authorized the emergency use of remdesivir in hospitals on May 1, followed by Japan, while Europe is considering following suit.

The study found that remdesivir, injected intravenously daily for 10 days, accelerated the recovery of hospitalized COVID-19 patients compared to a placebo in clinical tests on just over a thousand patients across 10 countries.

On April 29, NIAID director Anthony Fauci, who has become the US government’s trusted face on the coronavirus pandemic, said preliminary evidence indicated remdesivir had a “clear-cut, significant and positive effect in diminishing the time to recovery.”

The National Institutes of Health, of which the NIAID is a part, said Friday in a statement online that investigators found “remdesivir was most beneficial for hospitalized patients with severe disease who required supplemental oxygen.”

But the authors of the trial wrote that the drug did not prevent all deaths.

“Given high mortality despite the use of remdesivir, it is clear that treatment with an anti-viral drug alone is not likely to be sufficient,” they said.

About 7.1 percent of patients given remdesivir in the trial group died within 14 days — compared with 11.9 percent in the placebo group.

However, the result is just below the statistical reliability threshold, meaning it could be down to chance rather than the capability of the drug.

How many states nation wide have actually procured any mobile testing laboratory except Ogun state that is still yet to be certified by NCDC more than a month after its procurement probably they don't meet specifications I wouldn't known, as we speak Ogun state still send their samples to Osun state for testing.

The ones procured by Dangote for Kano state the status is yet unknown.

Give the Rivers state government a break, they do not have stashed away monies to draw from..besides you do not know what the government got planned..All the plans by NCDC to ramp up testing this month by building new labs across the states have fallen way short of expection, why not choose them or their benefactor the federal government to criticize.
