Rewards For Excellence: 22 Personalities Shine At Osun Youth Ambassador's Awards

It was a gathering of who is who across Osun state and beyond at the third edition of the Osun Youth Ambassador's Awards where 22 personalities were rewarded for their selfless roles and contributions to the development of Osun state and other parts of the country.

The award ceremony held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Atlantis Civic Centre, Osogbo, Osun state with twenty-two personalities bagging awards in honour of their contributions to the society.

The event was organised by the Youth Reformers Initiative and was graced by traditional rulers, government functionaries, politicians, technocrats, youths of Osun, Political Office Holders, Entrepreneurs, Community and Religious leaders, media practitioners and other invited guests.

Some of the traditional rulers such as the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi (TELU 1) and His Royal Majesty, The Olowu of Kuta, Oba AbdulHammed Adekunle Makama (Tegbosun 3) presented various awards to the recipients.

The Guest speaker, Dr. Dayo Sobowale (mNSE, R.Eng) while addressing the topic: "Personal Development: Panacea To Impoverished Youth In The Community," advised youths to strive towards liberating themselves despite the insensitivity of the government.

According to Sobowale, youths should be hardworking and encourage skills acquisition that would make them employers of labour.

Sobowale of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, further charged youths to emancipate themselves through personal development stressing that most of the youths are living in abject poverty because they have been unable to develop themselves and take the bull by its horns.

Speaking earlier in her welcome address, the convener of YRI, Aminat Alake Ajibola, said the award event was the third edition and it has always been specially and specifically organized to acknowledge the positive contributions of great, illustrious and industrious Sons and Daughters of Osun state who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field of endeavours.

She said, "these award receipients are the people whose impacts and contribution to their community and fatherland has created for them a niche of excellence, on whose benchmark and commendable threshold we gathered to celebrate their feats, accomplishments as a way of inspiring and encouraging other youths, enhancing their capacity to do more in days and years to come.

"Our taste to contribute meaningfully to the sociopolitical space in orientation, culture, in education and economic frontiers and a clue to birth global recognition for excellence, to showcase the best products of our dear state, to impress the rewards of hard and smart works on coming and future generations is the major drive upon which we are annually committed to advance the course of this initiative.

"The misplacement of priorities in our immediate society is noticeable everywhere; in schools, religious centres, homes, offices which has overstretched the boarders of true reflection of youths. our creativity is dwindling, productivity abysmally low, urge for instant wealth without labour, drug abuse and other negative social vices calls for concern by all major stakeholders of the Osun and Nigeria project. Despite the above picture, we still have forward looking Nigerians who are forthright in their dealings and committed to a genuine cause which will advance the human race positively. They are our Ambassadors, they are our pride, they are the prestigious recipients of the OYAA 2018.

"We subjected ourselves to first, discipline and courageous mentality to present the best, one major reason why we have carefully shortlisted sons and daughters of our state whose entries among the several hundreds received are standing tall. We are most delighted to have worked with a great team in the selection process who disallow primordial, religious and ethnic sentiments to take preeminence over competence, outstanding excellence and value based impacts. Our standards are ethically professional," Ajibola said.

Some of those that were honoured include, Olalekan Abdul-Rahaman Badmus, Adewale Adediran, Oluwatoyin Black, Barr. Obiwusi Olusegun Adebowale, Al-Mubarak Abiola Uthman Kewuyemi, Hon. Fateema Mahammed, Kazeem Hamodu Olalekan, Engr. Kunsy Akin Ogunshakin, Dr. Adeleke Atilola Atilade and Alhaji Jeleel Lekan Salam.

Others are Basiru Saheed Akintunde, Apoeso Ifedayo, Com .Ishola Olorungbebe, Elisabeth Ayomide-Babalola, Alhaji Ajani Ajikobi, Fashua Funmilayo Dupe, Kazeem Romoke Opeyemi, Bello Adegboyega Basheer, Bukola Idowu, Ogunwede Alice Gbemisola, Olori tola Bamidele and Adesola Funmilayo Ruth.

Justice David Oladimeji of an Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has declared that it would be inequitable not to allow Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the September 22 Governorship election in the state, not to show his school leaving certificate to court if he has any.

The court therefore gave the Senator the opportunity to present his certificate before the court by Wednesday, August 1, 2018

Rasheed Olabayo and Oluwaseun Idowu had approached the court claiming that Senator Adeleke did not possess Certificate as required by Section 177 (d) of the 1999 constitution.

The applicants asked the court to set aside the July 21st, 2018 primary election which produced him as the party's flagbearer.

While ruling on the ex-parte application filed by the duo members of the opposition party on Thursday, Justice Oladimeji explained that granting the leave to restrain the PDP from presenting Adeleke as its governorship candidate over his inability to present his certificate may subject the court to mockery if the Senator presents the certificate thereafter.

According to the judge, “It will be inequitable not to allow the respondent to come and show his certificate if he has any but if given the opportunity to present side of the case, the balance which is necessary for interlocutory injunction would be adequately considered.”

Justice Oladimeji explained further that the ex-parte injunction has only seven days lifespan and that there were still window left open till August 8 according to the affidavits sworn to by the applicants.

He said “being an election matter, it is my conviction that the public will not be uninterested in the proceedings of this court. Once a matter is before a court any party cannot take a further step without the express permission of the court”.

The matter was adjourned till Wednesday, August 1, 2018 for definite hearing.

Politics / Fallout Of Osun PDP Primary: Fatai Akinbade Dumps PDP by Aminat508(f): 5:11pm On Jul 25, 2018
@AMILOADED

One of the governorship aspirants in the People's Democratic Party, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade has resigned his membership of the party in protest against the outcome of the primary election conducted by the party.

The letter was addressed to the party chairman on Wednesday and made available to Amiloaded

It reads, "I wish to notify you of my formal disengagement from the Peoples Democratic Party as a member as from today.

I made this somewhat reluctant decision after due consultations with my political associates, leaders, admirers and friends within and outside the state.

In particular, I came to this painful junction, having realized that the leadership of the party either do not want me or is threatened by my presence in the party. These fears became more pronounced, especially with the events that dovetailed into the recently concluded primary of the party.

Consequently, as an ever forward-working individual, I am withdrawing my membership of the party without harbouring animosity against anyone and will always welcome and participate in electoral contests that leave the processes open and transparent.

Above all, I thank members of the party, the grassroots, my teeming supporters and well-meaning individuals for always being there with me and for the purposeful vision I stand for. I cannot thank you all, enough."

@AMILOADED

Displeased by the manner in which the primary election of the All Progressives Congress in Osun state was conducted, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti has dumped the ruling party.

The APC has adopted a direct primary system which enabled the participation of all members of the Party in the election that led to the emergence of the state Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola as the party's flagbearer.

Angered by this development, Adeoti who withdrew from the primary contest, has resigned his membership of the APC in the state.

In the resignation letter duly signed by Adeoti, a copy of which was exclusively obtained by Amiloaded, the SSG addressed the Ward Chairman of APC, Gidigbo 2, Ward 12, Iwo Local Government Council Area.

The letter entitled : "Resignation Of My Membership of The All Progressives Congress (APC) was dated Saturday, July 21, 2018 and was copied the state chairman of the APC.

It reads, "with gratitude to Almighty God, I hereby wish to notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

"While thanking you and the entire membership of the party for your support while my membership lasted, I wish to reteirate my commitment to the progress of the state in whatever capacity I found myself in the future. "

Meanwhile, report has it that Adeoti has joined the Action Democratic Party and would be contesting the September 22 governorship election of the state under it.

The Success Of Our Direct Primary Has Placed Osun APC On Path Of Democratic Rejuvination - Oyetola

The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State for the September 22 election, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola has expressed happiness at the manner the maiden direct primary exercise of his party was conducted.

The direct primary system, which majority of aspirants rejected and boycotted, was held yesterday with Oyetola emerging victorious after defeating Hon. Lasun Yussuff and Hon. Najeem Salaam among other governorship aspirants who participated in APC.

Oyetola, in his acceptance speech after being declared winner of the election at the party secretariat in Osogbo on Friday night said the success of the direct primary system has placed Osun APC on the path of democratic rejuvenation.

He lauded members of the party for voting peacefully saging the exercise also signalled a rebirth of membership faith in the party.

His words: "Your state was chosen as the ground for the litmus test of participatory democracy applied through the Direct primaries for elections. You did not fail or faulter.

“In your large numbers you trooped out to exercise your civic rights as enshrined in the APC constitution nay Nigeria.

“Osun demonstrated what was possible today by voting peacefully and exercising their democratic rights. “The success of the direct primaries in Osun has placed our party, the APC on a path of democratic rejuvination and a rebirth of membership faith in the party. So let me begin by thanking all the card carrying members of the APC in the state of Osun who voted and contributed to making the exercise a success. How can I forget the excitement I saw on the faces of thousands who queued up with their cards to vote.

“From Iwo to Ede, from Ede to Ejigbo. From Osogbo to ijebu jesha, from Ada to Iragbiji, the story is the same – proud APC members happy to exercise their rights.

“I am humbled by the fact that I have emerged the winner of the contest. It was made possible by you the party members and your votes.

With deep humility and a sense of duty I accept your verdict that I should carry forward the torch of our party in the next elections.

“I assure you that your choice will not be wasted. You have settled for a man steady in his ways, firm in his convictions about the purpose of government, which is to promote the welfare of the people, protect their rights and provide good governance.

“Let me recognize all that came on this journey with me. They ran a keen contest and in the spirit of our party shunned violence. I salute them and stretch out my hands of fellowship and brotherhood to each and every co-contestant for this ticket. The victory is for all of us and as we continue our party’s bid to win the election and keep on the good works of moving our State up the global development level, I invite all my co-contestants to join me in the task of winning the election of September 22 and running a people oriented government.

“We have only won the battle. The war lies ahead of us. Our opponents from other parties increase their arsenal to fight with us. But we are ready. We are tested. Like the broom sweeping away the rot, we are set and ready. The 60 days plus ahead will not be easy but i am confident in our ability to protect what we have.

“To our quintessential governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, how can I begin to extol and thank you. Working with you has been like constantly jugging and through you serving the people has had a different meaning. I can assure you that all you have laboured to achieve for the goodness and well being of the people will not be in vain. We shall work assiduously to ensure continuity and consolidation of your efforts.

“I thank Gov. Abdul Azeez Yari who lead the team from the APC headquarters to conduct the primaries. Under your watch the people of Osun and our great party witnessed the opening of a new chapter and the needed filip for a rebound of of participatory democracy.

Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, thank you for standing by the people of Osun. You have strengthened the Omoluabi bond that we share."
