The Nigeria Community in Tasmania, Australia, has unveiled Nigeria's commemorative stone at the International Wall of Friendship (IWF) in Tasmania to commemorate the Nigeria's 63rd Independence Anniversary, AMILOADED reports.

The marble stone unveiled by Hobart's Lord Mayor, Cr Anna Reynolds, according to the community, symbolizes friendship and goodwill.

Speaking at the event, Dr David Onu said, "This day has been a long-cherished dream, one that I've tirelessly worked towards for the past three years. I'm thrilled that it's finally here."
The event also featured cultural performances, a delightful spread of traditional Nigerian cuisine, and a strong camaraderie that illuminated the warmth and unity within the community.
Others at the event were Anderson Madubike, the Nigerian Ambassador to Australia, Tasmanian Senator Catryna Bilyk, and Dr Remi Yusuf, Chairperson of the Council of Nigeria Associations Presidents in Australia (CONAPA), among others.

The community added, “From modest beginnings in 2004, when a small group of Nigerian families in Hobart came together during the Christmas season, to their incorporation in 2018, the community has come a long way. This event is a testament to their growth and unity as a community.

“The Nigeria Community in Tasmania, comprising 374 individuals and 124 families, actively contributes to the local economy across various sectors. Many members hold bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees, contributing substantially to the region. What sets them apart is their commitment to being good neighbours, ethical citizens, and law-abiding residents, maintaining zero imprisonment rates anywhere in Australia for at least the last ten years.
“The Nigeria Community in Tasmania continues its mission to promote multiculturalism and make a positive impact on the state's social, cultural, and economic fabric, all while working diligently to protect, improve, and uphold the good name of Nigeria.”

Politics / Osun 2022: Dele Adeleke Withdraws From PDP Governorship Race, Reveals Reason by Aminat508(f): 7:57pm On Mar 07, 2022
One of the governorship aspirants under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Dele Adeleke, has announced his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race, AMILOADED reports.

Dele Adeleke disclosed in a statement made available to AMILOADED on Monday.

He said he was ready to work for the PDP to take over mantle of leadership from the failed APC in the state.

The statement read, “My journey in the past few months was one of conviction, conviction rooted in my strong belief that Osun deserves to get a more visionary and positively impactful leadership, headed by a young, virile and result-oriented person. My conviction was also rooted in the knowledge of my capacity to be this man who would lead Osun in the direction of growth and prosperity that it surely needs.

“Across several locations and people, myself and my team journeyed to meet members of our great party, to discuss my vision, plans and programmes that will not only help Osun grow, but will also help embolden the image of the PDP as a people-oriented party in the minds and hearts of our people. I sold myself on the strength of a clear vision and a defined purpose.

“It is clear from the above, that my ambition has not been just about myself, but the people of the State and the rebranding of our great party; the PDP. I was therefore given totally to the leadership and tutelage of the leaders of our party, who in their wisdom now think we must align forces and present a united front going into the PDP Primaries holding tomorrow.

“The leaders in their wisdom decided to harmonize our forces, within the school of thought that I subscribed to, so that we can jointly prosecute the primary election and win. I respect this decision and believe in their capacity to lead us to victory.

“In the light of this, I have, having adequately briefed my Coordinators and supporters, taken the very difficult decision to withdraw from the PDP Governorship race. This is in total submission to the will of respected leaders of our party.

“I remain committed to the task of rebuilding Osun State and will continue to seek out opportunities to contribute to the actualization of the vision for a prosperous Osun,” Dele Adeleke stated.

Politics / Why I Want To Become Osun Governor – Dele Adeleke by Aminat508(f): 9:52am On Feb 14, 2022
A governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Dele Adeleke, has spoken on his aspiration to become the governor of the state, AMILOADED reports.

Dele Adeleke, who hails from the West Senatorial District of Osun State, is vying for the PDP governorship ticket including his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and a few others.

Speaking in an interview with AMILOADED TV on Saturday, Dele Adeleke said his passion for service was the reason he decided to contest for the governorship position.

“I have always had a passion for service. I have always looked for opportunity to add value. This is a call to higher service,” he said.

Speaking further on what the government has been doing wrongly in Osun State, Dele said, “The APC has been a disaster to the people of Osun State, we’ve been faced with misplaced priorities.

“Osun State is a state with meagre resources and these resources are being channeled towards project that are over bloated. For me, the real problem misplacement of priorities and misplaced priority comes when you have leadership that is not passionate about the people.

“The investment in education needs to be properly channeled. Investment in education would be made in a way that prioritizes welfare of teachers, availability of teaching materials and then we would invest in continuous training of teachers. We would attach tech hubs to our tertiary institutions. On health, we are going to ensure to ensure that quality assurance of Ministry of Health is empowered.”

On raising the IGR of the state, the governorship aspirant said, “IGR increase Dora’s not mean that you would make life miserable for the common man. Our spending would stimulate local enterprises, we would invest in local enterprising. When people are productive, they are happier to pay their taxes. If government were to be more responsible. We would in tease IGR by widening the tax net.”

When asked about heading a political post in the past, Dele Adeleke said, “when people talk about experience, I begin to wonder if they are not misplacing priority. Governance is about management of human and resources. Are you saying someone who has been running for 20 years is more experienced than someone who has been instrumental in transformation of enterprises, turning things that are going wrong right.

“We need to dedicate our people that what’s important is not experience. I have been involved in electioneering process, the fact that I’ve stayed in n the background does not mean I have not been active.”

Speaking on his relationship with another aspirant under the same party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, he said, “The Adelekes are blessed to have two prominent children being ambraced by the people of Osun.

“When you say, ‘rocking the boat of the family’, does my name change from Adeleke when I become governor?I being glory and honour to the family with the kind of service and greatness that I bring to the state. I am not contesting against Demola, there are other contestants. We are offering the people of Osun a wider basket to choose from.”

Osun 2nd Anniversary: We have entrenched regular payment of full salary- Deputy governor, Alabi

As Osun State celebrates the second year anniversary of the Adegboyega Oyetola-led administration, the state deputy governor, Benedict Alabi, has said that the new administration has been able to move the state from the era of paying half salary to full salary across all categories of workers.

Alabi said this during an interview with AMILOADED TV, while recounting the achievements of the administration in last two years.

“We have moved the state from paying half salary to full salary in the past 24 months and also paid pension regularly,” Alabi said.

Alabi noted that although the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has not significantly improved, the new government has been able to make giant strides by renovating 332 healthcare centers in the state.

“Even though the IGR has not significantly improved, it is unprecedented that a state would renovate 332 healthcare centres within the space of 24 months,” the deputy governor stated.

According to Alabi, the Oyetola administration has also been able to construct and renovate roads across the state.

On industries and investment, Alabi added that one of the major targets of Oyetola’s government has been to shift the state from a public service state to an industrial state.

While explaining how the objective is being achieved, Alabi said good motorable roads have been constructed so as to draw investors into the state and when they come, they would be able to tell a good story.

He added that in November 2019, the Osun government held an investment summit to showcase the potentials of the state to prospective investors.

“You will also remember that in November last year, we had an investment summit, which we used to showcase the potentials of the state to prospective investors, and this has been yielding a lot of good results.

Since then, we have flagged off like three industries in Osun state, which have never happened before, and we have a lot of them listed up who are willing to come to Osun to invest,” Alabi noted.

He however lamented that the COVID-19 pandemic has stalled some of the investments from taking off as planned .

On youth empowerment, Alabi stated that the government has not failed in that regards, adding that the administration has been able to engage the youths constructively in the last two years.

Politics / Endsars Demonstrators Call Off Protests In Osun, Appreciate Youths’ Consciousnes by Aminat508(f): 1:07pm On Oct 28, 2020
The EndSARS protesters in Osun State have on Monday announced that they have suspended the demonstration across the state.

The protesting youths under the aegis of EndSARS protest Movement made the announcement while addressing journalists at the Corresponts’ Chapel, Osogbo, on Monday evening.

Flanked by other EndSARS Protesters, One of the EndSARS activist, Ayo Oloogun while addressing the journalists said the suspension of the protest was necessary as criminal elements have capitalised on the protests by maiming innocent citizens and destroying properties.

Oloogun who appreciated consciousness of youths during the course of agitating the alleged brutalities, extortion and extra-judicial killings by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Response Squad SARS and its disbandment said they have suspended all the protest.

He said: “In the Words of the 35th American President, J.F Kennedy, “those who refused to participate in the politics of their environment end up being governed by their inferiors”.

“It is against the backdrop of the above thought that we greatly appreciate the doggedness and resilience of the teeming youths in the State of Osun, for showcasing genuine concerns for nation-building and just society, by joining their comrades across the country to agitate for end to police brutality and brigandage.

“The patriotic commitment and stance of our youths against brutal force and unlawful activities of the disbanded Special Anti-robbery Squad(SARS) remain unforgettable and exemplary, it is indeed a watershed in the annals of our dear country.

“Unfortunately, in the course of our genuine struggle for the emancipation of the weak and downtrodden, and for better society of our desire, some unscrupulous elements with divisive tendencies sneaked into the barricade and disrupted our procession.

“The most disheartening and pathetic of this rude obstruction of our movement to the point of egalitarianism was the kleptomaniac tendencies of these individuals, who used our popular struggle as a cover to steal, maim, and vandalise our common patrimony.

“We were astonishingly taken aback, and utterly saddened with the criminal manner these elements went about looting both public and private properties and almost turned the state to the arena of anarchy and turmoil, before the swift intervention of the state government.

“Going forward therefore, as we implicitly comply with 24-hour curfew imposed on the state by the government, for the ultimate goal of returning sanity and peace into the state, we hereby use this medium to notify our teeming youths that every agitation and protest has been put on hold.

“We enjoin our comrades to vacate the barricade and suspend every struggle to allow government in the State of Osun to carry out necessary steps towards meeting array of our demands, especially the 5-point demand as endorsed by the Federal Government.

“It should be noted that anybody caught on the street doing otherwise under the guise of #EndSARS protest would be treated as a defiant and such individual will consequently face the full wrath of the law.

“We further enjoin anyone with genuine claim of police brutality and other related matters to approach the newly inaugurated Judicial Panel of Enquiry for redress. Aluta Continua! Victoria Ascerta!

Present at the press briefing are ;Ayo Oloogun, Ismail Abdulazeez, Ige Olusegun, Oluwasegun Emmanuel Captain among others.
