Softmirror:In 2023, it was the Northern Muslims that splitted their votes into 3 just to accommodate Tinubu. Tinubu with 5.6m votes, Atiku with 6.9m votes and Kwankwaso with 1.4m votes. Obi was the greatest beneficiary of that as he ended up getting the votes of Northern christians in addition to the Christian demography votes. In 2027, it's looking likely that it will be the South who will be splitting their votes into 3 with Tinubu, Jonathan and Obi scrambling for the votes. The North has no incentive to support Tinubu in 2027 and his woeful performance only makes the decision easy to make. |
Softmirror:Behind the emoji, we can sense the fear and trepidation. PDP fielding Jonathan will further dampen Tinubu's chances especially in the Southsouth and even in parts of the North. It would even be double jeopardy if Obi contests solo in another party. Where then will Tinubu's numbers come from? Just the Southwest? Laugh now and cry later. |
stanluiz:And this was the proactive response of Elrufai and other Northern leaders as at then. It didn't get tacit support and approval nor calculated silence as we are currently witnessing. https://www.nairaland.com/3873488/igbo-quit-notice-going-arrest https://thenationonlineng.net/igbo-quit-notice-el-rufai-guarantees-kaduna-residents-peaceful-stay/amp/ It even led to the Igbos honoring Elrufai with a Chieftaincy title a year after for the role he played in quelling the matter. https://punchng.com/igbo-honoured-el-rufai-with-chieftaincy-title-over-quit-notice-order/

NgeneUkwenu:We will be here to compare notes in 2027. Godwilling. |
Maybe not. But neither will they campaign for an 82 year old tribalistic man that has clearly failed to deliver. APC leaders shouldn't be found stoking religious, tribal and regional sentiments as an election-winning strategy. Show us your report card instead. 2023 dynamics will be quite different from 2027 because in 2023, Tinubu had the benefit of doubt. He's now been tested and has failed to deliver. "I built Lagos" will no longer sell in 2027. |
Careful Chimamanda, Agbadorians like the one above will be here to accuse you of demarketing the country. |
tollyboy5:Okay. Aggregate Buhari’s list of appointees and compare side by side with Tinubu's obvious tribalism and preference for only Yorubas. The North stretches from Kogi down to Sokoto and is comprised of multiple tribes including Kanuri, Igala, Gbagyi, Nupe, Berom, Hausa, Fulani, etc. All Buhari’s appointments to any part of the North (Northeast, Northwest, Northcentral) were viewed as Northern appointments. Is it the same with Tinubu focusing on only his people to the detriment of the entire South? It's a fact. Northerners showed great restraint even when the EndSars metamorphosed into BuhariMustGo. They didn't ask people from other regions to leave their states nor embarked upon street renaming even when they were called cows. They understood that it was the price to pay for having one of theirs in power. The same cannot be said of you in the SW. |
tollyboy5:It goes without saying. Neither was Buhari the most competent at the time. The winner of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant is not really the most beautiful in the country. There's always someone more beautiful and better, and it cuts across every region and even in every state. Then this where federal character comes in. To give everyone a sense of belonging as well as promote equity, justice and fairness. |

tollyboy5:This is how fascism and apartheid starts. The Yoruba people Tinubu is appointing into all positions are not the most competent in the country but he clearly believes that to be the case. Tinubu himself is a beneficiary of "Emi Lokan". He was not the most competent aspirant in 2023 even in the SW. |
DrMB:It should. But you can find competent individuals in every region in the country. We are a nation of over 200 million people. Tinubu could also argue that the Yorubas he solely appoints into positions are the most competent but that would be insulting. Our forefathers were wise when they inserted federal character into the constitution. It helps maintain the peace in a diverse and highly balkanised country like Nigeria. |
The data does not lie. The Northeast is the most marginalised in the country in terms of leadership. The fact that they are not carrying placards and crying about it does not make it to be less untrue.
|
It's now clear that Aregbesola is doing serious damage to Tinubu across the grassroots of the SW. In the Southwest, anyone that dares to chart a pathway for himself will be immediately termed a betrayer and the full weight of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway propaganda machinery unleashed upon them. Case studies abound. Ambode, Fashola, Fayemi, Sanwo-olu, Osinbajo, etc. Dear Yorubas, after Tinubu, who would be your next leader? No, don't say you will cross the bridge when you get there. Who's Tinubu's successor(s)? |
The name and portfolio of the decampee were well publicised even on his letterhead. It was journalists who failed to distinguish between the two. Senator Abubakar Sadiq is also from the Yar'Adua family and he contested the gubernatorial primaries with the incumbent governor in Katsina. He's by no means a small fry and it's still a lose for APC. No serving APC governor or senator may be bold enough to decamp due to the vindictiveness and paranoia of the number one man. You can see it in Rivers, with Sanwo-olu and his alleged mistress, Achimugu and even recently with Bayo Ojulari, on what happens to anyone who dares to affiliate with the opposition. Expect internal sabotage and the mother of all anti-party in the APC in 2027. |
Peter Obi has been fully involved in coalition talks from day one but for some reason, he kept Obidients in the dark until 48 hours till the official unveiling. He even had to be called out by David Hundeyin before he did that. Then came in campaign fund rustlers like Aisha Yesufu and other Obidients with so much chaos and attacks on Atiku and other members of the coalition. Demanding for the ticket to be handed to them. It was almost as if they wanted the coalition to fail so Obi can move away to go contest on his own. All they are after is campaign funds. Like BringBackOurGirls, like EndSars, you only find them where donor funds are available to be misappropriated. Obi should either be bold and reign in these opportunists or do their bidding and go contest on his own. Enough of the half-hearted commitment. |
Because of the selfish interest and greed of one man, look what democracy has been reduced to in Rivers State. In two electoral cycles in Rivers state, APC couldn't present a gubernatorial candidate. Wike and the "fighter for democracy" connived using Magnus Abe and the courts to frustrate Amaechi and his candidates. That was the early beginning of clandestine anti-party in the APC and this was done to deny Amaechi a foothold in his state so he couldn't pose a challenge in the APC presidential primaries. The same elements have now reunited and are attempting to do the same at the national level by scuttling all opposition parties in order to run unopposed. This is a dangerous move. |
These are just preliminaries. Expect the mother of all decampings and realigning in 2026. "The guy is gone!!" |
Omihanifa:So the Abdullahi Haske should be deprived of business because he happens to be married to Atiku's daughter? Are you aware that Nuhu Ribadu is also Atiku's in-law? Where is Ojulari in all of these and why hasn't he made any statement or been seen since then? This is not a way to run a country nor win an election. |
Why is Tunubu this paranoid about opposition and what's with the vendetta against people whom he feels have affiliations with opposition figures whether real or imagined? First was the news about one Ms. Achimugu, the alleged mistress of Sanwo-olu whom they accused of funding Atiku and is now facing trial. That also caused some bad blood between him and Sanwo-olu for a while. Before then, was the constant hounding of Dangote and his refinery for allegedly funding opposition. Now it's Ojulari and his business ties with Atiku's son-in-law. One can hazard a guess that the hostile takeover of Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom were done to cut-off perceived sources of funding for opposition. It's becoming paranoia at this point and it's pathetic for someone who obviously got some level of funding from businessmen like Tony Elumelu and Co. |
The paid articles are now up and running in full swing. 2027 will be the year of reckoning. Buhari won and integrated vast elements of Tinubu's Southwestern ACN elements into his fold including Osinbajo, Fashola, Fayemi, Aregbe, Fowler and others too numerous to mention. Then come Tinubu who managed to win with very strong contributions from CPC elements like Elrufai but how did he pay back? By betraying and backstabbing him along with all other elements of the CPC including Buhari himself. Tinubu pivoted preferring to work with Wike, Reno, Bwala and other strong critics from the opposition. He chose to break his Northern alliance like he wouldn't ever need the North again, preferring Northern Yes-men and other lightweight politicians that are easily malleable and would sing the mandate song. Greed wouldn't even let him consolidate on the Southern bloc as he chose to corner everything for himself and his Lagos boys alienating large elements of the SE and SS from appointments. Now the chickens have come home to roost and he's busy running helter-skelter begging for Northern support and for Kwankwaso to agree to be his Vice. |
givedemwotowoto:Exactly. Sokoto Youth Forum issuing a statement from Kaduna. We know who their sponsors are but the train has long left the station. |
MadPolitician:Early this year, to make space for the above appointments, CBN Directors from other regions were sacked with no single Yoruba affected. Below are the 16 sacked directors and their states (All from the east and the north, not one Yoruba affected). The other South will join the SW and be screaming Southern Solidarity but this is how Tinubu is utilitizing the turn of the South, concentrating only on his Yoruba people. 1. Hassan Mahmud Director Monetary Policy Niger state 2. Ozoemana Nnaji Director Trade & Exchange Enugu State 3. Rakiya Mohammed Director Information Technology Jigawa 4. TimeManager:Lol. Don't be clever by half. Post the source link here for everyone to access. |
ottersberger:Much ado about nothing. As long as Obi is a part of the coalition and he wins the primaries, he will be supported across the board, I assure you but no-one will step down for anyone. Atiku got 6.9m votes in 2023 at a time when Buhari just completed his tenure. If Atiku could pull that number in 2023, I assure that he'll improve upon his numbers in 2027. Tinubu has lost a greater chunk of his 5.6m Northern votes in 2023 and Atiku is the beneficiary of those lost votes. This is not an emotional statement, it's real fact. It's foolhardy for anyone to say that Atiku is unpopular using only their lived realities without seeing the big picture. The Obidient movement has not shown their capacity in the series of harassment that Obi has been subjected to in Benue, Edo and Lagos. It's all just hot-air. Obi would be rigged out if he contests outside of rhe coalition, that's another fact. But he can go ahead and contest under LP if he doubts that. His numbers will be definitely less than what he got in 2023. Sometimes, stooping to conquer is a political strategy, (Tinubu did that) and Atiku's Northeastern region has also never produced a President, just like the Southeast and he has the advantage of numbers.

TimeManager:Like we always say, the days of the media superiority of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway newspapers are long gone. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi was Buhari’s campaign manager both in 2015 and 2019 and he delivered on both occasions. You all cannot rewrite history. The claim that Buhari sidelined Tinubu is also another blatant lie that will be a topic for another day. https://statehouse.gov.ng/news/president-buhari-names-campaign-organisation/
|
SoftSport:Well, I guess we'll never know because Tinubu won't win. Elrufai made Tinubu president in 2023, he will unmake him. You just wait and see. You and your fellow Yorubas can continue ronuing but you will be ronuing alone. Eat alone, die alone. |
lwisee:From the comment you quoted, if those are Buhari’s appointees, you can clearly see that he spread it across every region equitably. Even when Buhari was nepotistic to the North as claimed, he only appeared so because whenever he spread appointments between Northcentral, Northeast and Northwest, it was always seen as a Northern appointment. In return, the entire North voted for him. But Tinubu is utilizing the turn of the South but greedily focused on only the Yorubas. That is not how to build a Southern alliance. |
helinues:Fair enough but stop screaming "Southern turn". Simply be honest and call it what it is. The turn of the Yorubas. You doubt the list because even you are embarrassed by the brazzen tribalism inherent in it but it is real. |
We are talking Southern Solidarity but this is how Tinubu is utilitizing the turn of the South, concentrating only on his Yoruba people. ChiefOloye:We are only after a transparent and democratic primary in the ADC with no-one stepping down for anyone. The party's ticket will not be handed over to anyone on a platter. Whoever is afraid to contest should try their luck elsewhere. There has been no elections in the history of this country where only candidates from a particular region contest. E.g. Sowere contested in 2019 and 2023 same as Kachikwu and several others. No-one asked them to step down for Buhari. |
