Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers eliminated a very physical Vital’O from Burundi 2-0 on Sunday to reach the 2013 CAF Champions League second round. The first leg match in Bujumbura last month was scoreless for Rangers to progress to the second round of the competition 2-0 on aggregate. Vital’O were very spirited in their tackles and that forced their hosts to replace injured defenders Ousmane Sane and Valentine Iwuorie in the course of play. Uche Oguchi gave the home team the lead after only three minutes from the penalty spot after Seun Taro was brought down inside the box. ‘The Flying Antelopes’ doubled their advantage through a canon belted by big striker Efe Yarhere in the 16th minute. Rangers could have increased their lead in the 72nd minute, but Sanusi Sani’s effort crashed against the crossbar and nine minutes later, second-half substitute Alhaji Gero failed to get on the scoreboard when he was one-on-one with the Vital’O goalkeeper. Goalkeeper Godwin Ayalogu ensured he kept a clean sheet when he saved a penalty in stoppage time after Yarhere had pulled a Vital’O player down inside the vital area.[img]Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers eliminated a very physical Vital’O from Burundi 2-0 on Sunday to reach the 2013 CAF Champions League second round. Kano Pillars blamed biased officiating after they crashed out of the CAF Champions League on the away goals rule at AC Leopard of Congo. The Nigeria champions lost 3-0 on Sunday to AC Leopard for this first round tie to be tied 4-4 on aggregate, but the Congolese sneaked through having scored a goal in Kano in the first match. The round defining-goal was from the penalty spot in stoppage time in Brazzaville on Sunday. Pillars spokesman Idris Malikawa said the Ivorian referee robbed his team of qualification to the next round of the competition. “This is daylight robbery. African football is doomed with such refereeing,” blasted Malikawa. “It’s just unbelievable and if this is how African football is, then we are all doomed.” Malikawa claimed the referee struck out a 75th minute penalty he initially awarded the Nigeria champions. “There were no complaints in the first half, but after the interval the referee became something else,” he accused. The hosts went ahead in the 32nd minute before rallied round to deliver two more goals after the interval and book a place in the second round of the Champions League. http://www.codewit.com/nigeria-news/7246-pillars-crash-out-of-caf-champions-league |

A Russian billionaire has unveiled plans to make humans immortal by converting them into “Terminator-style” cyborgs – a creature that’s part human and part machine – within the next three decades. [img][/img] Thirty two-year- old mogul, Dmitry Itskov has been pushing the project forward since 2011 when he founded the 2045 Initiative. His ultimate goal is to transfer a person’s mind or consciousness from a living brain into a machine with that its personality and memories intact. The so called “Cyborg” will have no physical form, and exist in a network similar to the Internet and be able to travel at the speed of light all over the Earth, or even into the space. Itskov’s first highly ambitious goal, called Avatar A, involves a person controlling a robotic human replica through a brain-machine interface (BMI), a technology that already exists. The deadline for this first stage is set for 2020. The Avatar B, due in 2025, would involve transplanting a human brain into an artificial body “at the end of one’s life.” Next in line is the Avatar C, that rolls around in 2035, that would also involve a human-machine brain transplant, but with all personality intact. Itskov hopes the Initiative will have learned enough about the human mind to free it completely from physical form finally, by 2045. According to the report, from the Internet-like hive mind, individual personalities could manifest themselves as holograms when they need to interact with their environment. “We believe that it is possible and necessary to eliminate ageing and even death, and to overcome the fundamental limits of the physical and mental capabilities currently set by the restrictions of the physical body,” the project website says. Itskov is recruiting scientists and authoring an open letter to the UN secretary-general Ban Ki- moon, asking him to support to push society’s transition to “neo- humanity.”

The spate of insecurity, bombings and killings in parts of Nigeria might be coming to an end as President Goodluck Jonathan is said to have accepted to give the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, amnesty as has been requested by many Northern leaders. A credible source hinted that amnesty for Boko Haram has been accepted… The accord was said to have been struck at a meeting between Mr President and the leadership of the Northern Elders Forum at the presidential villa, Abuja, which lasted into the night. Consequently, President Jonathan has summoned a security meeting with chiefs in the country, which will be held today at the presidential villa. They are to finalize the tactics for the amnesty. Also, I hear a committee will be set up to oversee the process. Present at the meeting were notable Northern leaders. Lets hope this approach works. http://www.naijaurban.com/jonathan-boko-haram-amnesty/ |

Dear Achebe, Please, If you see Ojukwu, tell him that his brothers and sisters are experiencing another Pogrom in Kano. Tell Awolowo that Nigeria is preparing for another war. Tell Zik that those things that made him cross the ocean 50 times seeking for peace is looming again. Tell Yar'Adua that the amnesty he granted is causing wahala. Tell Tafewa Balewa that his scions are carrying weapons against Nigeria. Obviously you will not see Abacha but if you see any one that will see him, tell him that Almustapha is still in kirikiri prison and of course Alameyesieha has been released. Tell MKO Abiola that another June 12 is looming and tell him that Nigeria's officials have extended to convicted criminals who are looting the nation dry. Don't be disappointed on Nigeria dear Achebe just that THINGS HAS FALLEN APART, NIGERIA IS NO LONGER AT EASE AND THE ARROW OF GOD IS NOW POINTING SERIOUSLY @ NIGERIA, BECAUSE OF THE TROUBLE WITH NIGERIA, EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE HAD A MAN OF THE PEOPLE LIKE YOU; INDEED THERE WAS A COUNTRY.MR AMSHI |

President Goodluck Jonathan had a good dose of the epileptic state of the nation's power supply as his Easter message during a service at Our Saviour's Church (Anglican Communion), Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, was punctuated by an outage on Sunday. Power supply to the church auditorium went off about six minutes into the President's speech and lasted till he ended the message. The President used battery-powered microphone to continue his speech which lasted for nine minutes, 40 seconds. The service which ex-Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, also attended had earlier been interrupted by an outage for few minutes before the President mounted the podium to deliver his message. Jonathan, however, made a joke of the situation, saying the power was deliberately put out in order to remind him of the urgent need to tackle the problem in the country. "They know that I'm here; that's whythey took light, at least to remind me that I must not sleep until we stabilise power. God willing, next year they will not take light," Jonathan said. The President assured Nigerians that the country would survive the incessant terrorists' attacks and other challenges facing it. He thanked Christians for their prayers which he said had helped to keep Nigeria united as a nation. Jonathan said, "I sincerely thank all of you and all the Christians in Nigeria for your prayers. It would have been worse if you have not been praying. This country has passed through a lot. I know all those last days of military transition to the regime that handed over power to Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo at the time the country was drifting, it didn't know where it was going. "We had political environments that we didn't even know where we were transiting to. But with the persistent prayers by you, Christians, God stabilised the country. God will continue to stabilise this country. God will continue to keep us together. I promise you as a mortal, I will do my best." He urged Nigerians to "live within peace and love," while reiterating Gowon's famous civil war quote, saying "to keep Nigeria as one is a task that must be done." He said the deluge of terrorists' attacks facing the country would not divide it, adding that his government was working tirelessly to overcome the challenges. Jonathan said, "We have our challenges as a nation in these days of terrorism. It's quite sad. I can assure you that we are working very hard and we will continue to work very hard and God willing terror attacks will not divide this country. "We have our challenges as a nation but we must go to where we want to go. As the president, by the grace of God and your good will, I promise, I will do my best. I will not disappoint Nigerians within limitations of our resources. We will fix our infrastructure." Speaking to journalists after the service, Gowon urged Nigerians to continue to live in peace. Gowon backed Jonathan's stand on not granting amnesty to Boko Haram members. He said, "If it is something that can bring about the peace and understanding, then why don't we pursue it. It is an opportunity, but as Mr. President says, let us know who are the leaders that will come out to accept the amnesty on behalf of other people."mramshi http://mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/power-cut-interrupts-jonathans-easter-message-in-lagos/ |

For joining Borno elders in casting aspersions at the presidency, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman in Borno, Baba Basharu, may lose his seat as multiple sources told PREMIUM TIMES that President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered his removal. During the president’s recent visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, some Borno elders led by Shettima Monguno and Professor Nur Alkali punched holes in Mr. Basharu’s leadership style and faulted President Jonathan’s no-amnesty stance for Boko Haram. The party chairman publicly, at the event, told Mr. Jonathan that he aligned himself with the elders’ statements; he also asked the president to order the removal of all the military bunkers from the streets of Maiduguri. President Jonathan did not, however, hide his displeasure with his party’s chairman as he told him that he doesn’t fear losing an election in Borno State if he must frankly tell Mr. Basharu and the other elders the truth. “The state chairman of PDP said there are many bunkers in Borno State and we should remove them. Why should there be bunkers in the state in the first place? You said there are too many Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC), and I ask, who wants APCs in Borno in the first place? “Some of you are even saying the JTF should be removed; and I ask who wants to be spending tax payers’ money in paying the soldiers’ allowances in Borno State? We need that money for development. It is high time we started telling each other the truth. I don’t care if one will lose an election doing that,” the president said. Mr. Jonathan also rejected the call for amnesty for Boko Haram saying he could not offer amnesty to ‘ghosts’ who had no known representative or clear demands. Mr. Basharu’s other sins, according to party sources, was his inability to mobilise a 25 per cent poll aggregate for Mr. Jonathan during the 2011 presidential elections in which the Congress for Progressive Change candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, polled over 80 per cent of the total presidential votes in the state. A highly placed party source also said that the PDP National chairman, Bamanga Tukur, was directly instructed to quickly facilitate Mr. Basharu’s exit and search for a better replacement. Mr. Tukur is from the neighbouring Adamawa State, which has also been besieged by insurgents recently. The embattled Chairman of Borno PDP could not be reached for comment as PREMIUM TIMES gathered that he has been running around Abuja begging to retain his seat. When contacted, a top PDP stalwart in Borno, Saina Buba, said Mr. Basharu’s impending sack was long overdue. “I think Alhaji Baba Basharu is the main problem of the PDP in our state. He has to a greater extent factionalise the party. Nothing is moving for the PDP. Our supporters are decamping to the ruling All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the state. I think this is the worst Chairman the PDP has ever produces in recent times. “Basharu’s poor leadership quality contributed immensely to reasons why President Jonathan could not secure 25% votes during the last presidential polls. Why won’t the Present be angry with him. And if the Basharu led PDP executive in Borno State is not dissolved immediately, the party cannot win the 2015 elections,” he said. PDP denies removal plans The PDP national spokesman, Olisa Metuh, however, denied there was any plan to remove the party chairman. Mr. Metuh said the party chairman did no wrong by aligning with the Borno elders against the view of the president. “The Party can never take action against the chairman for aligning with the wishes of his people. The statements he made are in line with the position taken by his people and he cannot simply because he is the chairman of the PDP in the state take a different position from the one taken by the generality of his people,” Mr. Metuh said mramshi http://premiumtimesng.com/news/127480-borno-pdp-chairman-may-lose-seat-for-opposing-jonathan.html |
